My partner and I came here Sunday for lunch. We were looking for a buffet, but this restaurant doesn't have one. But it did have a lunch special. (We learned that in a phone call with the restaurant. It's not mentioned on the menu). Decided to give it a try. My partner got the lunch special (Lunch Thali - non-veg), which was a meat dish, saag paneer, daal tadka, rice and naan. I got the Chana masala, mulligatawny soup and an order of garlic naan. Everything was delicious. The chicken in the special did have a lot of small bones, so my partner did have to be careful with that. But the spicing of each item was very good. The plain naan was fine, but the garlic naan was outstanding. Heavy garlic and butter flavor. Just great. We took much of the food home and enjoyed it the next day. The garlic naan came back to life with a brief microwave in a wet paper towel. We'll be back. read more

We order in/carry out from this restaurant every once in a while and they never disappoint. The food is consistent and as a matter of fact, better than some of the bigger restaurants in Germantown/Gaithersburg area. The food is fresh, hot and tasty and satisfactory. We love their palak paneer, navaratna korma, daal tadka, malai kofta, garlic naan, dal makhani etc. The food is reasonably priced and generous portion. We love this place. read more

Tuesday 9/3/2024 I made a takeout order and got the butter chicken $15, chicken curry $14, assorted platter $9, garlic naan $3.99, tandoori chicken $13.99, chicken mo mo $7.99. - The Butter chicken (aka my favorite Indian dish) was pretty decent but it's not really close to the best I've had. Also I wish I could've got a bit more Chicken. - The chicken curry was okay but also a bit underwhelming as it didn't have that strong curry taste & flavor that I was expecting (it was kind of bland). - The assorted platter comes with samosa, pakora, chicken tikka, and lamb kabob (sekuwa). * It was my first time having a samosa and I really enjoyed it (it's a pastry stuffed with potato & peas). * This was also my first time trying pakora and it was pretty decent. * The chicken tikka left me with a mixed feeling: the chicken itself was good but I don't really know what I'm supposed to expect from the "tikka". * The lamb kabob was decent and had a solid flavor profile. * Overall, the platter was very good based on the value and taste of the sampled items. - The garlic naan was pretty cold when I got it but after warming it up, it was solid. - The tandoori chicken comes with 6-7 pieces of small mixed legs & thighs. It's solid chicken but i expected more in terms of taste & flavor. - The chicken mo mos are Indian style dumplings and they were alright but nothing really impressive for me. Stopped here while traveling from Morgantown, WV to the Richmond, VA area to visit family. We saw a sign about the lunch Thali ( sp?) special so hubby had the lunch with chicken and i had the vegetarian lunch. The rice portion is for a kid at best. They need to give a bigger cup. If I had not add nan I definitely would be hungry still. The chicken and sauce itself wasnt the best I had. Lacks seasons. This is me comparing to my go to place in Columbia MD called royal taj. That's real authentic cruisines. But this is good enough to get your fixing. It was $20 for all of this. 2023/2024: 7 goat curry bones + 1 small meat piece for to go, mid $20s. I had even naively tipped the younger female cashier several dollars, well before opening the container. I had to waste 30 minutes to return & show the nonsense served & asked them to please fix it. A tall older South Asian lady, who was dressed better than I would expect for someone actually cooking curry, came out of the rear kitchen & slowly walked to the front & returned to the kitchen, trying to hide her staring down the store's only customer, who dared to confront her kitchen's sketchy serving. Their 3 pieces added meat fix did not make up for their sketchiness, did not even make it worthwhile for the cost & hassle to begin with. I hope this restaurant's couple pieces of meat stinginess to me was financially worthwhile; every time I walk by over several years, there are no customers in there. 2Sep'25: I was contacted by the owner: "We are sorry to hear about your negative experience but you reviewed the wrong restaurant. We don't have any lady working here and no one returned the goat curry. The sauce was thinner than anyone you'll meet at a rehab for people with eating disorders. The flavor was (probably) worse than what the aforementioned person tasted after purging. That is not an entirely fair comparison: the purging probably had some flavor. I digress...if you are interested in a mouthful of soupy sadness, I can recommend this restaurant. Placed our order online, for pick up. The estimated time was 20 minutes. I drove over early and stopped at another shop near by. I arrived a few minutes early. The lighting inside is very dim. Otherwise, the location is clean and appears to be well maintained. The aroma is very nice. I walked over to the bar/counter in the back. An associate came out of the back and looked at me, with a smile. I said I might be early, but was checking on my order. He checked the order on the back counter and softly said my name. I am not sure if he said anything else after that. I live just a 2 minute drive away. The entrees were still hot. The rice and spring rolls warm, the cauliflower in between. The colors of the food were vibrant. The individual aromas were very pleasant. Each item was very fresh looking and tasting. The cauliflower, Lasuni Gobi, was spicy up front at first bite, but maybe medium at first. Overall the flavor profile was excellent. Both entrees were very tasty. The goat had some fat, which we expected and appreciated. The meat was tender but not too soft. The Lamb dish was very well prepared. The subtle flavor of coconut was in the background. Both entrees were very flavorful, and as expected had their own unique spice combinations. The spring rolls were good, probably could have used a bit more filling to balance the wrapper. The dipping sauce complimented the rolls. We were very happy with the food and overall process to order and pick it up. read more

First time to try this joint. Very casual cozy little restaurant at a strip mall in Germantown. Hubby and I had cravings for Indian cuisine. This is near the New Grandmart International grocery store so it's perfect location for our purposes. The staff were so friendly and professional. It was a refreshing experience. We got the assorted platter that had chicken tandoori, samosa, lamb and veggie patties with a side of tamarind and green chutney (cilantro and mint). Every bite was delicious! The samosa had crunchy pastry on the outside and perfectly cooked. Lamb and chicken were full of flavor, marinated well. I got the butter chicken and he got the curry chicken. I tried both. I prefer the butter chicken but both were delicious. We got a side of naan and mango chutney and pickled veg . They went together well. Overall a wonderful experience and will definitely come back. My whole review is based on biryani. This is where my love of biryani began. I thought I left a review years ago, but I didn't, so here's one now. Back in early 2020, when everything was takeout. I started trying out cuisines I wasn't used to. I really just stuck to curry in the past. So I tried out Biryani for the first time at curry place, and it opened up a new world of flavor for me. This lead me try out all the different biryanis over montgomery county. A journey spanning 3, almost 4 years. Coming back here, now more experienced. Bad experience last Saturday night. An employee wouldn't let me sit where I wanted to sit. I am/was a regular customer at The Curry Place and have never been treated like that before. He was not even truthful when he told me why he didn't want me to sit where I wanted to sit. So, I just put my coat back on and left. Once you walk in it smells amazing. The staff was nice and suggested some of her favorites and we tried some. The Chicken Tikka Masala was good. The sauce was super creamy and the taste was great. The chicken itself was kind of over cooked but the sauce made up for it and the vegetables could've been cooked a little longer. The goat curry was just amazing. Taste was great sauce was great and it was cooked perfectly. The Naan was huge and so good. I didn't expect it to have flavor but it did. It was brushed with either butter or oil and tasted great. When we left the store we realized the samosas were not in the bag so we had to go back to the restaurant to get them. They were okay, nothing too special. At 6 in the evening on a Saturday in the summer, this place was buzzing with steady business. I'm not from the area, but it was apparent this was a local favorite with the number of to-go orders flying out the door. My table had honey garlic shrimp, rosemary garlic naan, curry lamb, and lamb biryani. EVERYTHING was good and seasoned well without being too spicy. There was a little kick, but it was the perfect amount without being overpowering. The highlight was the naan. I am trying to think back to when I had better, and I just can't. Well, for having lived in Germantown for so many years, I'm disappointed in myself for waiting this long to eat from here. If I had known their food was great, I would've checked them out sooner. We ordered the the lollypop chicken, garlic naan, and kadai chicken. The lollypop chicken was sweet and slightly spicy. The meat was quiet tender and falling off the bone with a light bite. Very tasty. Garlic naan is always a great choice. I don't think I've ever had bad garlic naan and this is the same case here. The kadai chicken was great too because it was tasty and flavorful without being overtly oily. The gravy was a little thicker than I'm normally used to which I actually liked. The green pepper and onions complimented the dish well. Our waitress was also nice and informative, while the restaurant was very clean. The butter chicken tasted like someone had put maple syrup in it instead of spices, and the roti was somehow underbaked but also stale? I will never order from here again. I see They use plastic containers for steaming hot food, the containers have bright colors and ones the color already faded. I also see the label at the bottom of the container is still there, halfway being washed probably with residual constantly leaking out to plates of dishwasher. COVID Dine-In Review Weight was long, but the food was great! This was my first time having butter chicken sweet. It was fantastic! My date loved the ghost pepper chicken. The food here is absolutely amazing. I'm just getting into Indian food and this is some of the best I've ever had. The people in this neighborhood seem to agree, because when I came in on a weeknight, the place was packed and to-go orders were flying out the door. I'm trying to get myself to try new things on the menu, but it's hard when you find a dish you love so much. Here are my faves: Sampler Platter: If you're new to Indian food, (or just don't know what to order) start with this. The spit roasted chicken and lamb are moist and tender, the samosa is delicious and those potato pancakes (can't recall the same) are excellent when dipped in the tamarind sauce they serve on the side. Butter Chicken: thick, tender cubes of chicken in this creamy, heavenly, tomato-based sauce. And since there is so much sauce, there is plenty left over to dip your garlic naan in. And you will want to do that. Trust me. Chaat Papri: a delicious mash-up of flavors and textures. It's like a culinary kaleidoscope. "Street food" never tasted so good! Try it! Shrimp Biryani: Gloriously aromatic rice, mixed with nuts, dried fruit and plump, juicy shrimp. The execution is WAY better than my description, but I urge you to give it a try, Chicken Soup: Wait whut? I know, I know... this was the last thing you expected to find on my list of Indian food faves, but hear me out. This is not your mama's chicken soup. It's a boldly fragrant, lentil broth-based soup with finely diced chicken that will warm your bones and simultaneously whoop up on any nasty germs hanging out in your system. I've had a bad cold for the last few days and this is all I've been craving. Another Yelper mentioned how amazing the soup was, and it piqued my curiosity. Now, I'm paying it forward. Go get you some of this soup. You'll thank yourself later. Garlic naan: Naan and garlic. What else could you ever want? This food is amazing. You gotta try it. read more

Food is good but rude staff. I had place a delivery order two years ago due to the snow. He had no common sense of ringing the doorbell and made me drive all the way in the snow. When I reached the the manager manisha was very rude and told me it was my fault that I didn't answer the door. The delivery person didn't even rang the doorbell and made me come to the restaurant to pick up my order. Wow never going back. Their food is good but their attitude needs to improve. read more

I normally get two orders of their chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, momo dumplings, and mango lassi... but I've picked out at least 5 hairs, or chicken feathers from my food... how unappetizing.
