Tried out this place last week (carry out) and was pleasantly surprised how tasty everything was! Food: Indian Curry Chicken, Garlic Naan & the basmati rice were the best we ever had. They use dark meat for the dish & plenty of sauce for the rice and naan. Highly recommend this dish. Prices: A bit on the pricey side but acceptable. Never been there but we got delivery. Lots of Indian restaurants just phone it in. Nirvana is one of the rare ones that works with good quality ingredients and a great mix of spices. Had the vegetable samosas, lamb palak, and the onion naan. The samosas had complex flavor and the two dipping sauces were both on top of form. The lamb in the palak was tender and not bony and fatty. Instead of the usual spinach, Nirvana used mustard greens which gave it an interesting edge. Even the rice was good. I don't know if its authentic, but it was very good. read more

First time here, in the door we found it quaint , neat and clean. The staff was verynicexand friendly. We found good menu choices. My ordered the Chicken Tika Masala which her only real complaint was the chicken was huge chunks as we like it cut down more. I ordered the fish massage which was ok, they use salmon and I was expecting a white fish as salmon has a strong flavor and took away from the masala sauce. I love some nice Indian takeout, but the places around me make me feel like Goldilocks- it's never quite right. Too bad I don't live in Olney! Everything at Nirvana was perfection! Butter chicken is a go-to for many people, but it was incredible here. Sweet but complex flavors with perfectly cooked, large pieces of chicken. I feel like chicken tandoori really shows off the cooking ability of the restaurant, and here it was moist with subtle flavors. We also got naan, samosas, paratha, Chana masala, and onion bhajis, and they were all delicious. The takeout containers were clean and organized, and the food was ready quickly. We've gotten nirvana takeout a couple of times and I can say it's decent but I'm not blown away as some of the other reviews seem to be. In my experience the chicken korma and saag paneer are okay but I'm not going to rush to get them again. Surprisingly my favorite dish so far has been the buttered chicken. I know that's not ground breaking as that seems to be the standard American favorite but they do make one of the better versions that I've had. My husband also likes their chicken biryani. For us, this place hits in a pinch but I wish there were more dishes we were excited about. read more

Pretty impressed by the food in the small shopping Plaza. My friend ate here the night before and liked it so much she wanted me to try the next day. I got the lamb vindaloo and the meat was extremely tender and the sauce was super flavorful. Pretty reasonable pricing as well for the portions they gave you. The only thing I wish was better was I asked for extra spicy and there was barely any spice in my food. Also they did not give you any bread with the meal. We came here for a nice birthday lunch and left very happy. We ordered samosas to start which were very good and perfectly cooked. They come with two sauces, a chutney and a green spicy sauce. I prefer the green sauce but both were very good. We ordered the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala and the lamb briyani. Everything was flavorful and cooked perfectly. We also ordered one roti and one naan for the table as no bread comes with the meal which is a bit disappointing. The average cost of entree is $15-18 so a little cheaper the some of the other local places but still a bit high in my opinion. The serving size is a good portion, we definitely had left overs! Oh so much did I want to love this place. Naming it "Nirvana" was a pretty big risk, you have to admit. I mean it's like calling your ship unsinkable! So this place is in a strip mall at the corner of two pretty big roads and the lot generally has enough parking though I do suspect that some people are using it as a "park and ride" for their commutes to work. The decor is fairly warm (minus the plywood boards that are used on the benches) and the greeting was certainly nice. I perused the lunch special menu (I'll include the photo) but decided to go with the always-available americanized staple known as "Chick Tikka Masala." I was famished and figured that for $15.99 I was going to get a mountain of food. Alas...I did not. The food came out quickly which concerned me that it had been sitting in a pot cooking...and cooking for a while before I arrived. Alas...it had. The meat was pretty over cooked but the flavor of the sauce was fairly nice and subtle unlike some other local eateries serving the same dish. The rice was very nice and not lumpy or over seasoned. You could taste it for what it was and it was a nice compliment to the chicken. I may come back here for dinner to see if they're in less of a rush to get the food out of the kitchen allowing them an opportunity to cook it to order. All told, I'm giving Nirvana three stars which I know sounds like an oxymoron but it is what it is. read more

Everything was good as it was the last time I ordered from here except the butter chicken was a tad less flavorful than last time. The chicken tikka masala was something new I ordered and it was SO good. Rich, creamy sauce with large, tender chunks of chicken. The samosa chaat was also very good - much better than the papri chaat I ordered last time. The chaat dishes are a bit pricey compared to other Indian restaurants but was well worth it. So glad I finally tried this spot out, and I have to say it checked all the boxes. (Only a 4 star instead of 5 because I save my 5 stars for the kind of places I'd take a flight out for just to eat there and go home). That aside-- 10/10 on the meal! I ordered at 8:40 pm for carry out and they graciously obliged even though they were closing at 9. I requested it be mild as I'm very sensitive to spicy foods, and I was so grateful that I could enjoy the whole meal without that spicy kick that's too intense for someone like me. I'm glad I ordered the tandoori chicken, that surprised me to be even tastier than my go to butter chicken. The rice was fresh and fluffy and the naan was absolute perfection. I also love that the samosas weren't too spicy. The mango lassi was great, it was the only thing that was a 9/10 for me-- amazing taste, I'm just a very difficult person to please so I was quite impressed and very excited to continue coming back. If you like Indian food, you MUST GO. I'm so happy Nirvana opened in Olney. I've already been there a few times and expect to be a regular. I've been for both lunch and dinner and the food is consistently amazing! The lunch and dinner special they offer is great for when I can't decide between dishes and the portions kept me full. THE FOOD: I've tried the Saag Paneer, Lamb Curry, Channa Masala, Chicken Tikka The Goat Curry has a slight spiciness to it for those who can't handle spicy food. I enjoy spicy food so I might ask them to make it spicier on my next visit. All the meat has been very tender and perfectly flavored. (I'm usually not a fan of chicken dishes because I find them to be overcooked and dry, but the Chicken Tikka Masala was perfect). I also tried the Chicken Karai for the first time and enjoyed it. (It reminded me of Chinese Stir fry). I prefer the Garlic Naan to the Onion Naan. And the Mango Lassi was worth ordering. THE SERVICE: The chef came out when he had a chance to ask customers about the meal. It's nice to see the people cooking the food smile hearing the customers are enjoying the food they prepared. Nick was also very accommodating and gave great recommendations on what to try. I plan on asking him what he recommends trying the next time I eat there (hopefully soon). I also had Greg as a server. Carried out Chicken Vindaloo yesterday. It was EXCELLENT except that it was toned down for American tastes and not "native style." In their defense, I forgot to tell them I like to singe my tonsils! Vindaloo is reputed to be one of the hottest Indian dishes. It was flavorful and mostly chicken thigh meat. Their basmati rice was also good. I am gluten free of necessity and was grateful that the young man who answered the phone asked the chef before answering the question. read more

We ordered takeout at 5 on the dot, so we should have been freshly made... But tasted like maybe hours old buffet? Ordered lamb vindaloo (spicy water with a few pieces of pretty overcooked Lamb), chicken korma (gristly dark meat, sauce was very flavorful but not thick), butter chicken (bland and same Calibre chicken), and saag paneer (the best thing we ordered, flavorful and thick - actually highly recommend if this is your jam). Also, they don't have papadums. I asked why and the host said because they are "southern indian and we are a northern Indian restaurant". Super delicious Indian cuisine! I had samosas as an appetizer and butter chicken as my main course. I had recently recommended this restaurant to a friend whose daughter eats gluten-free. When I was describing my meal there, I said I usually order a Mango Lassi to drink. She'd never heard of it. Oh my! You don't know what you're missing. Try one. The young man who served me was polite and efficient. A perfectly attentive server. I love this little gem of a restaurant. A statue of Ganesha, the elephant-headed Hindu god of beginnings, visually greets you when you open the door to this establishment. Spouse was born in Calcutta & raised near Kathmandu, Nepal. So he has an appreciation for locally prepared cuisine from both regions. I don't like spicy Indian food but our Nepalese friend cooked for us & I love the more mild dishes. We had three deliveries & pickup. Spouse loves the piping hot parathas! He's been trying to find them like he remembered and this restaurant comes close! The butter chicken is very mild. It has oodles of tasty sauce and the chicken chunks are thigh dark meat which is more tender & flavorful than breast due to its higher fat content. We love the basmati rice. We have big bags of basmati rice at home but I can't seem to duplicate the flavor & fluffiness of Indian restaurants even when I rinse & soak it first. So, we love the rice. The Vindaloo is just right & my brother, who loves spicy food, tried a shrimp entree. The Samosas were too spicy for my delicate senses but everyone else loved them. The doughnut balls in syrup dessert were rather soggy but held their shape but then I'm unsure if they are supposed to be that soggy or not. Overall, we enjoy this restaurant's food. I almost walked out. When we first came in, there were six workers at the bar and not one person greeted us. We stood by the door waiting for someone to seat us for quite some time. Even the diners kept looking up from their to see us just standing by the entrance. There were no lines and the restaurant was not crowded on a Friday evening. Not one person walking around the main eating area or the bar motioned to us or acknowledged our presence. I was just about to walk out when someone finally asked if we wanted a table. I think the first thing a restaurant should do is acknowledge diners as they come in. If you're busy, say you'll be with them in just a minute. Once seated, I ordered the daily dinner special. The waiter explained that since they do not have buffets like other Indian restaurants, getting a sampler was a good way to try other dishes. I agree. I opted for the chicken tikka masala and lamb vindaloo. I asked if the vindaloo was spicy and he said it does have a kick. He was right again but it wasn't so spicy that if you can't have spicy, it would burn your mouth. The really nice thing about this restaurant is that they offer refills of rice. So many places charge for that and I'm afraid after a while, Nirvana might go along with charging too. So for now, get the extra rice if you need it. read more
