My favorite vegetarian place in the DMV area! They recently painted their walls with beautiful murals of Indian film star portraits! Absolutely stunning! Of course the food is outstanding too!

One of the best South Indian vegetarian restaurants in the DMV area. Every thing in their menu is from various regions of south India. I went there for lunch buffet on the weekend. It almost closing time, but the staff was nice to try it out. They kept their buffet open for slightly longer so I didn't have to rush. Dosa with three different types of chutneys were my favorites. They have a live dosa counter so you can order as many as you want. Vegetable biryani was delicious. Nothing here is spicy. Unlike the chettinad style cuisine, the spice levels are pretty good. Ambiance was just like any other restaurant. Nothing too fancy. Very casual place and nice staff. Highly recommend it if you want to try nice South Indian vegetarian buffet.

Dropped by for dinner - an average experience at best, and probably would not repeat. Service quality was fine, but the booths and tables are oddly undersized in width for the plates used. The Gobi Manchurian was poor - too little sauce and way too doughy. Idlis were subpar. Mysore Masala Dosa and accompanying chutneys were fine, as was the filter coffee. We ordered Kesari for dessert, which had so little sugar that it definitely tasted like a savory dish (opposite of the usual issue with kesari). While nothing was inedibly bad, the experience was unsatisfying overall.

This Indian restaurant was just above average for me. Nothing amazing but not terrible too. Tried 3 items from their menu- Paneer Butter Masala and Paratha-Good flavors and flaky paratha(just like it should be) Special Rava Masala Dosa- Dosa was good but the potato filling was excessive in quantity and tasted bland too. Vegetable Thali Combo Platter-Most savory items were bland and the basic seasoning was missing. Dessert was good. I would not recommend this restaurant if you are looking for something authentic as items from their menu could be a hit or a miss.

This is one of the few Indian restaurants that really does it right. Their food is pretty close to authentic and has spice. Their buffets are also pretty great (especially Mother's Day and Father's Day). Their mango lassi is delicious. Sweet, creamy, and so much mango flavor. $5 The garlic naan is also delicious, and one order comes with 4 pretty big pieces! The bread is just crispy enough while still being soft and malleable. The garlic flavor is very mild, and it is garnished with coriander. $5 The paneer butter masala is excellent. Super creamy, tons of paneer, and served in a nice vessel along with a mound of rice. The paneer is extremely soft and cooked perfectly. $16 The channa batura is massive. This alone could easily feed two people. It is fried well and served with a mildly spiced channa curry. $16

An amazing lunch spot! Serving up all-vegetarian food, Madras Palace has authentic, delicious, homey -feeling South Indian delicacies. On a Monday lunch I got the Onion Masala Dosa - crispy and soft in all the right ways, the masala was flavorful and the dosa was served with two tangy chutneys and sambar. I tried a friend's Vada Curry dosa and was honestly blown away - it was my first time trying this unique specialty and the flavor was unlike any South Indian dish I had tried thus far! Would probably get this next time. Service was fast, ambiance was standard, and it seemed like the lunch buffet (which includes dosa brought to you directly) was a great deal. Would definitely bring my family here!

First timer . I hardly give 5 reviews... but this place deserved it . We went 30 mins before closing and thought the chef will make everything hurry-burry , but it tasted awesome. It was empty and had a lot of seats to sit, with social distancing. Everyone inside wore masks and looked safe. Ordered samosa chat .. it was good but it filled 25% of our stomach. Kids ordered naan and paneer butter masala. And it was good. We also ordered gobi manchurian and fried rice. Being a South Indian restaurant, we took a chance ordering North Indian food and Chinese .. it was just a luck that both tasted good. Fried rice was awesome . After a long time , felt like eating a Chennai road side fried rice . Gobi Manchu was out of the world. The 5 rating was mainly because of gobi. It's been a while since we ate this taste on a manchurian. Hats off to the chef. Wish they had BYOB. Would have been 100% best :) lots of parking available and we had a great visit . Thumbs up ..

I ordered a Thali through doordash and all the dishes tasted horrible. I love Indian food and I've tried many restaurants, but I've never experienced food that actually tasted bad. Even the rice pudding had a weird texture; the rice was so overcooked that it had no texture and an unappealing flavor

She apologized and took it back and we waited 15 min before they brought them out again. they were still raw. that lady came again and we showed her the raw dough inside. She said that there was something wrong with their stove where the oil is heating up too much. She very quickly told us that she will bring samosa instead of the pakora. First of all I didn't want samosas. Another 10 minutes later the samosa plate come out. They look like the kind you buy frozen with tortilla as shells and fry them. No way these were made in the restaurant. They even tasted like the frozen ones From grocery store. Unhappily we ate the samosa. Our food came out 55 minutes after we had placed the order (20 minutes after our appetizer plates were removed). We had to ask for water 3 times before our glasses were refilled. we ordered Shahi paneer and navratna korma. The quantity was sad for an $18 dish. But it came out hot, though the taste was Nothing to write home about, basic, pedestrian and not what we would expect from a restaurant. So the main course came out and they gave us rice with it, we had ordered naan and onion kulcha with it. The breads were bright out 17 minutes after the main course. By that time because we were so hungry, we had finished half the food with rice Ab and the other half was completely cold. We sent the breads back because what was the point? there was no one to even ask for the bill. Another wait of 10 minutes. There 3 people going in and out of thr kitchen to outside, but no one was checking on the guests inside. There were 4 groups eating inside. I could see we were all waiting for service. After waiting we went to the bar and asked the guy there to see if we could get our bill. he came immediately to help. We had to ask them to check the bill as we were charged for both the pakoras and the samosa. We explained to him about what had happened and he worked with some one to take the pakoras off. But we still had to pay for the groce store bought amosas that we never wanted to begin with. In short, poor service, poor, old and dirty ambiance and poor pedestrian level food. Don't go!

The décor is beautiful, lots of gold accents and very clean. I honestly didn't expect the inside to be so elegant. Even the silverware is gold, and the plates have gold trim. It feels upscale but still warm and welcoming. We tried the lunch buffet and it was absolutely delicious. The food wasn't overly spiced, salty, or sweet, everything tasted balanced and made with care, like something your grandma would cook. I went around 1:45 PM expecting the buffet to look picked over or dry (like many places that late in service), but everything was fresh and fully stocked. Great variety, very flavorful, and the meats were well marinated. The staff was friendly and attentive, my water glass was never empty. Lunch buffet is $24.99 per person and absolutely worth it. They close at 2:30 PM and reopen for dinner at 4:30 PM. There's ample free parking and even a party room for larger gatherings. So happy to have found this place. I'll definitely be back!

There's a nice selection of items in the buffet, including some vegetarian items, chicken and goat. The garden salad actually was excellent - very fresh, with tomatoes, red peppers and carrots. The tandoori chicken was very moist and flavorful. There were a few fried items - although I try to stay away from fried foods, they were very good. The lentil dish was nicely spiced. The naan delivered to the table was "ok," not great. There's even coffee available on the buffet - and it was decent coffee. The price for this buffet was under $20. My mom and I came for the lunch buffet for $18 each, and the service was alright, but nothing stood out. You get all of your food from the buffet except for the naan that gets delivered to your table occasionally. Also, as a tip, I'd recommend paying with cash as it's cheaper. I tried a lot of items, so it's easiest to rank each item into tiers of whether I'd recommend it or not: YES: - Mango lassi - Gulab jamun - Chicken biryani - Deep-fried bread (bathura) - Tandoor chicken - Saag paneer - Samosa MAYBE: - Chana bathura - Butter chicken - Goat vindaloo - Veg noodles - Aloo tikka - Beans - Naan NO - Patty looking thing (best way I could describe it as I don't know the name lol) - Kheer - Aloo matar - Rice - Methi paneer - Dhai vada (this was HORRIBLE) Overall, the buffet experience was okay for the most part, as the food ranged from awful to decent. It's clear to see that my mom's claims did not pass the test, and I'd easily recommend the Muddy Branch Indian buffet for my Indian buffet fix.

So , I took a chance. The nice young lady working there was so patient with me changing my mind. Similar to tzakiki. We took our dinner home.. and then lamb briyani ( rice dish ) was amazing! It was plentiful. I had leftovers the next day. A lot of restaurants tone things down to fit American tastes. Chennai Hoppers is one of the few spots in MoCo that doesn't. I've been here a few times now, trying something different each visit. It's unapologetically authentic South Indian cuisine. The space is cozy with a rustic feel. On our most recent visit, we were seated promptly and service was excellent. We ordered a couple of apps and entrees to share. The Kaalan Manchurian was a great start. It's similar to Chicken 65 but with mushrooms. Spicy, savory, and tangy all at once. We also tried the Aadu Nei Chukka. As someone who loves lamb, this one stood out. It's a dry dish with an intense masala that's deeply spiced and full of flavor. For mains, we got the Goan Fish Curry and the Madurai Goat Pepper. The Goan Fish Curry was milder than the goat, but still had plenty of heat since we ordered it spicy. The coconut milk base gave it a smoother, more balanced profile that worked well with the fish. The Madurai Goat Pepper was the opposite. Bold, pepper forward, and dry. Easily one of the better goat dishes I've had. Chennai Hoppers does a great job showing how spices should be used. Nothing is watered down, but everything still feels balanced.
