I feel that this restaurant is good and serves a unique purpose for the community, but it is difficult to give a rating. The building is not in good shape, a bit of depressing lighting, and there is a big tv with the news on, which I found charming in its own way. The best part is the samosas, and the rest... I didn't find it offensive, but it wasn't good either. And I'm not sure I would even call it Indian food. The biryani just feels like rice with dry chicken. Curry and palak paneer is very watery. I think the best description I can attempt is that it doesn't taste like restaurant food, something that you really look forward to and makes you willing to pay to eat out. However, why I feel that it's not a 1 star atrocity is because of the price point they are hitting and the service they provide for the local community: Serving kinda real food (with good relative portion size) for less than fast food prices. I visit regularly to buy samosas in bulk for parties and special events. It is really the only place I know that has 2 for $1 samosas, made fast, and are fairly large. Small tamarind chutney and mint chutney is $2 each, whereas the large sizes are $4 each. The smaller container was enough for the 50 samosas I ordered this past weekend. You also get charged $1 for the container it comes in, which is irritating but still worth it because how else will I carry out 50 samosas? The interior is small, cramped, and worn, but I have never dined in. I've visited only to place and pick up samosa orders. I normally preorder a few hours early and my order is always ready and accurate when I arrive. Highly recommended. read more

My husband favorite food is Indian Food, so we eat our fair share of it at home and at restaurants. We found Metro Dhaba to be a solid family own restaurant. The best part of all, is their price. Buffet: They offered a total of 8 dishes, along with roti and samosa. The taste was good, the sweet in the front case looked yum but I forgot to buy some so maybe next time. Atmosphere: It is a older restaurant, a little dated. It is self-sitting, then you partake of the buffet with the plates stacked to the side of the buffet. Once you are done, you go to the front counter to check out. My co-workers buy samosas from here, whenever we have a office party, the price is a real steal and the taste is really good. I was told that this place was the Samosa Factory, and its pretty well known for their amazing samosas! It seems that they used to be a buffet, but due to COVID-19 they're doing carry-out orders only so it's best to phone-in for any orders. I called ahead to order 24 samosas and discovered they were only 60 cents each! Sixty-cents!! SIXTY CENTS. What an incredible price!! They're really fast too, it only took 30 minutes for the order and the owner is such a sweet old man. The samosas were hot, flakey and spiced. Each are about the size of a fist. In terms of parking, they have about 5 spots in the front of their store so it should not be an issue during non-peak hours. I highly recommend this place for your samosas orders! read more

The older gentleman at the counter wears a clearly worn out disposable mask that is dirty and stained, with broken earloops- it's quite disgusting. I saw him in that mask when I first visited this place about a month ago and he was wearing the exact same disposable stained mask with broken ear loops when I picked up an order today! Also, they overcharged me on the total both times I picked up my food. The 1st time by 75 cents, the 2nd time by $1.20....I noticed it when I got in my car and calculated it (including tax) , but didn't bother with it because they were small amounts, but still wrong. The samosas are the best I've had in moco and what my friends bring to every potluck. They are big, and loaded with potatoes and veggies. Metro Dhaba is located inside Il Forno Pizzeria. I've seen this chain for years and never went inside because I wasn't a huge fan of that pizza chain. A friend of mine told me that they had Indian food inside that location and that it was outstanding. I had no idea that they've been selling the best Indian food around for the last 30 years right from under my nose. The place is a true hole on the wall, but the food is very inexpensive, and it's absolutely the best chicken biryani, eggplant, samosas, onion kulcha I have ever had. Metro Dhaba remains true to this spirit. The food tastes authentic and it's quite cheap. They could improve themselves in almost every aspect but then it won't remain a Dhaba. I like all their snacks. I do almost a weekly takeout of Samosas. Occasionally take out paranthas and vegetables. This is a great place and you can't beat the price. The owner uncle is the nicest person you will meet in your life, works hard and has kept his prices low despite Covid. He takes pride in his food and makes it very affordable. Would definitely recommend the samosas along with several other things, all of which I have tried. Main point: for a $5.99 buffet & the homely feel you get from the owner, this place is okay but it's certainly far from 4-5 stars as some people have suggested. No dessert. 2 dishes are chicken & the rest are vegetarian. Rice sucks but hey you get tandoori chicken, chick peas, naan, & unlimited samosas that alone is worth $5.99. The food is tasty with limited options but it's 50% less than other buffets. Cheap doesn't always translate to good. The owner is humble, he told us to eat as if the restaurant was our home, I appreciate that. However, saying this place is great or excellent would be a disservice to the people, it has problems. No welcome, Congested feeling, Dirty cups, Cramped buffet, Broken bathroom door, & Old water. This is probably the worst restaurant I have ever been to. This is also the first 1 star review I have left in over 5 years of Yelping. This place should not exist. Let me elaborate. We came in around 8:00pm and the first thing you notice is how dirty and dated the place is. Who wants to eat dinner in a dirty restaurant? There were literally still dirty plates left out from the lunch buffet at 8pm! It gets so, so much worse. A friend of mine noticed a smell coming from the buffet and picked up one of the lids to reveal that there was still food under there, and lots of it! If you think a cheap and dirty restaurant is going to throw away all this food, let me tell you what, you are mistaken! GROSS GROSS GROSS GROSS. Unfortunately, we noticed this after we tried all of their disgusting food. The food is a disgrace to Indian/Pakistani food. Bland, old, and tasted of the microwave. Literally the worst Indian food I've ever tasted. Surprisingly, the service was quite good and the man working there seemed friendly. There wasn't even sauce on my friend's cheese pizza. How much more backwards can these people get? Our waters were also poured from a pitcher sitting out by the dirty plates at the buffet. I understand the food is cheap, but who cares? I'd rather go to McDonald's! It is unbelievable that these people have not been shut down by the Health Department. They've been around long enough, I guess they've figured out how to manipulate the system. Quality in every aspect is worst- food,service,hygiene 2. Value for money - too low 3. Slothful service 4. Unenthusiastic ambience We ordered chicken curry, roti & naan. The only difference between roti & naan was of color not of taste. The chicken curry was missing the spices that we generally expect in a regular curry so no question about evaluating it for taste. Service was so slow that I didn't order next thing I was thinking to!! The owner himself works as waiters (respect for him for he works at his old age as well) I went for washroom before ordering. The washroom was not clean, out of toilet paper & drier was merely working for sake of running electricity & On top all odors was so strong u could feel it even outside washroom I could see groceries stored openly on kitchen rack So hygiene was barely taken into account Only positive thing is the lowest price & brand name of lady who prepares ready to eat meals Hopefully they will improvise!! read more

It goes beyond the fact that the nutrient of the food fuel your body. The food you eat reveals your culture- personality, demographic, income. Metro Dhaba is the kind of place that reveals a lot about you. Metro Dhaba is a very low-key restaurant that you will not be able to find unless you are a local junkie. It is located in a private parking lot tucked at the entrance of a neighborhood. You can see it heading north on 355, but you may not notice it or think much of it because it is not the most eye-popping of restaurants on the exterior. The interior is simple. They do not attempt to wow you with its decor, but welcome you with a friendly environment that is far from pretentious. Metro Dhaba is owned and managed by Joginder and his loving wife. He is a kind man who graciously welcome all his customers. They bring the taste of Northern India to Gaithersburg. But wait, they also bring the taste of Italian! Metro Dhaba used to be located in Rockville but they moved over to Il Forno Pizzeria storefront. That is why there are both Italian and Indian food here. Back to my thesis and less about its cuisine, Metro Dhaba reveals your character. The regulars who come here are simple people. They are open-minded and willing to try new cuisine. They support local businesses. They have good taste. You don't come here trying to be on your high horse. You don't come here to pretend you are of a higher social class. You come here for delicious, complex flavors for a cheap price. It is the place you come to if you just want good food. If you can bring a boyfriend or girlfriend here then that shows that you are far along in your relationship. It shows that you are comfortable with them and no longer feel the need to impress them with a fine-dining establishment, but can have just as much fun and feel just as much as a King and a Queen than a place where your waiter caters to you every second. I can't believe some of you think this is a good place for samosas and indian food. Their indian food is horrible!!!! Their naans are chewy, dry, and hard. As you know, naans are usually a mixture of flour, yeast and yogurt. I think they use the same flour to make pizza for naans. Their samosas are another disappointment. The shell is so thick and dry. The filling is extremely boring! Their lamb (shami) kababs are a joke. kababs are grilled, aren't they? not theirs. Their lamb kababs are made into flat round pastries, extremely dry and old and taste like paper carton. Eating their lamb Kababs is like chewing on milk carton container. Their lamb saag is horrible. the description of lamb saag on their menu: lamb pieces with chopped spinach, tomatoes and spices. Instead, their lamb saag comes with pieces of unmarinated meat and puree spinach. And it tastes terrible. Enough said. I will never go there for indian food again. read more

I have been eating at this restaurant for over 20 years, both before and after it relocated from over by "Scuderi Auto Body" to its new digs in its own privately owned building which was previously the site of the Gaithersburg IL Forno Pizzaria. In the past 20 years, their quality has actually steadily improved, while maintaining rock bottom prices. The Pizza, which has changed, has also improved. It appears they use the NAAN bread formulation and in my humble opinion that makes for a massive improvement. I'll be honest, there are two dishes you MUST NOT ORDER, and this list is going to look extremely unlikely. The coffee. I don't know how they manage to break coffee, but they do. I've even offered them instruction, but really, just don't. The other thing is the spaghetti. It's always a disappointment. Outside of those two items, everything is fantastic. What to order: Gyros, Lamb Saag, Pizza, and their excellent Samosa. I have not tried their meatball sub, but I hear it is fantastic. The place is primarily used for takeout, but it can easily seat over 35 people. It is clean, quiet, and sedate. It features a large screen TV, and they will adjust the volume or channel if you request. Best of all, if you choose to sit down, they treat you like family. If you are planning a birthday, (and if you don't have the taste for sushi) that most of my friends to, then this is the place to go. It is also great for small gatherings. Your friends will be amazed by how reasonably priced all the dishes are. I'm really ashamed of myself for taking this long to review them. One more thing. The tiny parking lot is often overcrowded. I am in love with Metro Dhaba/Il Forno. It is such a blessing to eat the food and take in the charm of Metro Dhaba. Inside, the paper signs that declare "Please seat yourself," "Please do not ask for free sauce," and "Please do not bargain about the prices" have been up for several years now. Metro Dhaba stays true to itself. They know what they are doing. It is an authentic place with friendly people that serves amazing food. Metro Dhaba reminds me of the authentic Indian restaurants in Edison, New Jersey. The owner, Joginder, is doing a wonderful thing for Gaithersburg. I usually order the samosas (50 cents each), aloo gobhi ($3.99), and jalebi (an orange, Indian sweet) (half pound for $3.00). The samosas are freshly made, hot, and savory with a little bit of spice. The samosas have greatly improved since last year. The aloo gobhi tastes so good!! It is a mixture of cauliflower, potatoes, and spices served hot. The jalebi are sweet and best eaten as dessert. I always get half a pound (3-4 pieces of jalebi). I really appreciate what Metro Dhaba is doing for the community. I highly recommend becoming a customer here. read more

How are other reviewers giving 4 or 5 stars ? As much as I like the owner (a woman), the food was just terrible. Indian cooking is known for the 3 C's: Cumin, Coriander, and Cardamom. Virtually every dish was bland and flavorless. The Tandoori Chicken was dry and over cooked, the butter Chicken was tough to chew. Samosas ? Forget about it.
