Seems like each food item has an entertainment surcharge as you get to listen to lively and potentially rowdy, depending on your preference, music performances. I think the highlight of this place is the ambiance and vibes whereas the food is okay. Menu is quite small, so easy to select from. We tried both mac and cheeses (vegan and non-vegan), sweet potato tempura, and Mongolian chicken wings with their seasonal drink special for four. Seasonal Drink Special - a tasty cocktail with the alcohol taste somewhat present. Everyone enjoyed this drink! Good option if everyone (4 or more) people are interested in drinking. Truffled Mac and Cheese - an okay mac and cheese with penne pasta. Nothing really special and it's not super cheesy. The vegan one is much better and I wonder if that's intentional. Truffled Vegan Mac - very creamy from their cashew cream sauce, I thought this was the non-vegan option because the cream emulated cheese so well. I confidently claimed this was not vegan and found out I was wrong. Though non-vegan mac at other places is better. Sweet Potato Tempura - think sweet potato fries but tempura. Literally what you expect, not too surprisingly. A light crunch on the outside with clear sweet potato contents inside. Solid appetizer but for the price, probably not really worth it. Decent family-friendly spot for brunch. RESERVATIONS Made online about a week in advance for Sunday brunch at 12:45pm. We probably didn't need the reservation. We originally sat outside, where there is a spacious patio with live music, but despite the heat lamps, found it to be too cold and moved indoors. THE SERVICE/FAMILY FRIENDLY Great service. Especially since our 2-year-old was screaming for most of the meal (and we just held her on the sidewalk outside for most of that, but the times we were inside, I didn't get any judgement or complaint from the servers). What can I say about our experience last night at Curio? It's been a downward spiral for this venue. When the Chapel opened as an entertainment venue, the adjacent bar and restaurant was The Vestry. It had a solidly enjoyable food menu and some truly creative drinks. Sadly, that folded and was rebranded as Curio. Curio no longer had a solid menu, but was more bar food (hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, quesabirria, calamari, salads) and a much smaller drinks menu. We dined at Curio last Sunday, as we were at the Chapel to see Blancmange and Midge Ure. The service was decent, but stressed as they had one server for a very large area. The food was decent and arrived on time. When we went last night (we were going to the Chapel to see Gang of Four), everything was off from the start. We made reservations via OpenTable. We put a note in stating we wanted to sit at a regular table and that we were going to the show. We arrived, and the host promptly took us out back to the patio (where we specifically did not want to sit) and were greeted with two musicians playing LOUDLY. We were meeting a friend and wanted to chat and catch up before the show. The host vanished before we could say anything. We tracked him down. He muttered under his breath and said we could sit in the bar. The bar behind a closed door that had NO ONE in it. We sat in the empty bar and finally went back out. We told him we were going to the show (he should have known as we mentioned it in the reservation) and he scanned our tickets and gave us wrist bands. He then said, "You can sit there", which was a long, empty table that was empty when we came in. Fine. We sit, and sit. A waitress breezed past 3xs, and we finally caught her attention and asked for menus. She had a very quizzical look on her face, seemed surprised to have someone sitting there asking for a menu, and finally said, "Sure", dropping the menus off. Another waiter showed up and we ordered drinks. We both asked for the same drink, but the waiter didn't understand that we had ordered two. That and we ordered an appetizer. Calamari, which arrived well before the drinks. It was very greasy, with a lot of breading, and a bit of a treasure hunt to find the actual calamari. The drinks arrived then our friend joined us. She ordered her drink, which came promptly, and we ordered food. A quesabirria was ordered for one of us, and I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and a side order of fries. The quesabirria arrived. And then nothing. About 10 minutes later, someone zipped by, plopping an order of fries on the table. The fries weren't greasy, but they had almost no flavor. It tasted like dry packing material. And they were room temperature. And no sandwich. It was now approaching time to get in line for the show. The waiter zipped past but saw me staring at the empty place in front of me. He arched his eyebrows and said, "Is there anything..." and I said, "Forget the sandwich. It's too late, and we need to get in line." He says, "Uh, ok. Uh, let me check on that." Immediately, he plops the sandwich in front of me. I had zero appetite after the flavorless calamari and the dry packing-material fries, and it had been almost 25 minutes since the other party at the table had eaten. I shook my head. He goes, "Do you want a box?" Ugh.. we're going to the show. NO. I'm sorry the Vestry couldn't have maintained as they were engaging, took some fun chances with the menu and drinks. Curio is one of my go-to brunch spots because I can take my pooch along. They have a nice dog-friendly covered patio area. The prices are reasonable, the food is generally pretty good, though I wouldn't say it's the best in the city. It is consistent. The service is usually fine and the servers are very nice. I really like their deviled eggs, the eggs Benedict with salmon is my go-to, but have liked most things on their brunch menu that I've tried. The home fries could be a bit crispier. I got the chicken and waffle bites, which were tasty, but the portions were tiny and the food came out basically room temperature. Our food also came out completely separately (there were only three of us, and about a 10 minute spread from when the first dish arrived to when the last dish arrived) - definitely not a fan of this type of service and I wish they could have had all of our food prepared at the same time. Curio is an awesome brunch spot, especially when they do live music. We visited on a Sunday around noon time, and the Curiosities Jazz Band was performing in their "indoor" area, which is really just a covered patio (they also have "outdoor" sidewalk/parklet seating).  In terms of service, in the beginning, we were attended to frequently and as needed, though later on, it took an unreasonably long time to get help from any server, and even just to get a refill on a soda took like 15+ minutes (and I had to walk up to the workers, because no one was coming near our table and I got tired of waiting). Still the ambience of the place was perfect.. relaxed, open, inviting, simple, and the food was really good. The Hangover "Curio" was your typical sausage and eggs with home fries kind of meal, but everything was cooked perfectly and tasted fresh with good flavor. The Breakfast Napolean was phenomenal yet so simple, runny eggs, juicy white meat chicken, and thick crisp bacon, sandwiched between a light and flaky puff pastry sliced in half (almost like a croissant), the truffle cream and lemon hollandaise mixed into the sandwich and overflowing onto the plate was really tasty and wasn't too overwhelming, I liked that the lemon flavor was very light, creating the perfect balance to the dish. It was definitely satisfying. We didn't try any of their cocktails on this visit, but I would definitely return to try some of their "culturally-infused" beverages. Had brunch on the patio on a sunny Saturday in early May. Group of 10. The service was quick. The food was yummy and beautiful. Naturally, I took no pictures. I got the huevos rancheros. I'm sad not to give Curio a better rating (more like 2.5). I went in for brunch and while the atmosphere is nice, the food was unfortunately not very good. It's well-plated though. First the positives: they have a lovely outdoor area that's cute and intimate. The service was professional and courteous. The musicians added a fun vibe! I'd go for just mimosas maybe. Mango Slushy Margarita: I thought it was tasty, but my partner thought it was not mixed well and weirdly not slushy enough. Breakfast Napoleon: Impressive-looking! But unbalanced. The supposed hollandaise was stodgy and starchy like bechamel sauce, and really salty. It wasn't great on top of the (good!) salty bacon. I visited here this past weekend with a friend, after exploring parts of the Mission. From start to finish the customer service and brunch menu offerings was exactly what I was looking for on a sunny Saturday afternoon! Let me start by saying....Mango slushie margaritas!! These glasses of deliciousness will are STRONG! Maybe because I'm not 21 anymore, but I was good off of two glasses lol We were going to food hop, so we only opted for one menu item and that was the foraged mushroom hot pocket. I love their take on a childhood classic, and it was really good. The only thing I think it need was some type of cream sauce or creamy texture, regardless, I still enjoyed it. During brunch they offer $20 bottomless mimosas, so if you are into that kinda thing, it's a pretty good deal for the city! We got there around 12pm and the tables were pretty packed, but they had one table that available, directly in the sun, but it was on a couch with an ottoman and a table...exactly the kinda vibe we were looking for! Sitting in the middle of the street, sippin on margaritas with awesome company, doesn't get any better than that! I love how the city has allowed parts of Valencia St. to be closed off to allow for expanded outdoor dining! Something about being able to eat in the middle of the street makes outdoor dining fun and unique! Date lunch with my mama! We made reservations for Noon on Saturday and it was pretty empty. The heat lamps warmed the outdoor seating area making it a cozy experience. Great service. I asked to turn down the music and they accommodated. I also asked for hot water with lemon and they accommodated that. Some restaurants don't have hot water which always surprises me. The staff paid attention and refilled our water when it was low. Bonus is that they have the silver stainless steel teapot reminiscent of those at old school dim sum houses. The food came in hearty servings and looked really pretty. It was not too salty. The 4 stars is because it felt a bit greasy and I didn't think the flavors were that memorable. read more

I visited on a rainy Friday night and was able to get a table, but basically all tables were taken! They have a lot of food and drink options, which is great for if you want to eat too. The bartender was helpful and all the staff we interacted with were really nice. I loved the mermaid cocktail - the alcohol and sweetness flavor were really balanced. My partner, and I went here before going to see a show at The Chapel. Curious has a deal where you don't have to stand line to get into The Chapel for shows. Our hostess raced ahead of us to show us our seats, and we found ourselves having to negotiate two steps that were poorly marked in a dark room. We were a little puzzled when we noticed groups that were seated after us being served their orders. The cocktails we had were excellent. That was the High Point of the evening. Good ingredients, well, balanced, very good. My dish the braised short ribs, was brought out to me and was good, but was comically small. It looked like best an appetizer, and came with no salad or other items. $28. It was a disappointing item. They did not bring out my partner's food. We were left waiting, wondering what happened. After several minutes, our server came out and explained that something had happened to my partners entrée, and they were going to have to redo it. The server said the dish would be comped, which was appropriate. I give them credit for that. Unfortunately, we were left with the awkward situation where I have an entrée getting cold in front of me, and my partner has nothing to eat. She encouraged me to eat my food, and I offered to share it with her. Once her item arrived, It was disappointing. It was a fried chicken sandwich with, the chicken itself really unremarkable and a soggy bun. Honestly, Popeyes does the same thing better for half the cost. There was a pianist playing accompanied by recorded backing tracks. Frankly, he wasn't very good and we found it just plain annoying. At one point. we realize the backing tracks were actually more interesting than what he himself was playing. There are a lot of fine musicians in San Francisco who would be interested in working a restaurant gig. I don't know why they chose this guy playing to tracks over a competent player. Because of the slow service and the order getting botched our dinner took much longer her than it should have, resulting in the Chapel being fairly full by the time we got in. I would consider having a cocktail at the bar there if I was in the neighborhood, but otherwise, I can't recommend it. read more

I've gone here for brunch multiple times and it's never disappointed. We got served by Julio last time and he was the best server ever -- we had our dog with us and he gave us a nice bowl for water, he even gave us another piece of toast after we finished ours with the shashuka we ordered. We ordered: - Curio Hangover: good, the best thing was the sausage, but wow it was a bit under-salted, so ask for salt and hot sauce! - shashuka was good! - I loved the salad, get a large to share or as entree, I recommend a side of sausage (you get two pieces). This bar was wonderful. Came here for a friends birthday brunch and they kindly reserved half the bar for us! The ambiance was darker gothic and really interesting. The drinks were fantastic I had a really good Bloody Mary and then bottomless mimosas for only $20 (a GREAT deal). For my meal I had to e breakfast burger and you MUST add the katsu fried cheese. So much flavor and great combination of textures. Other appetizer option - braised beet and goat cheese was also good, just not as flavorful Main - short rib and mashed potatoes were excellent! The potatoes had so much flavor. Other option of squid ink risotto was also good as it had a lot of texture added on top, but wish there was more to it (seemed like a whole lot of the same thing, if that makes sense). Dessert - eh. We were looking forward to this but the chocolate tart seemed like it was taken out of the freezer or something (it was solid hard) with whipped cream thrown on top. The mango tart had much better plating, but flavor wasn't too great - my favorite part was actually the cracker to dip in the cream. Service - could've been a lot more organized... our food came at different times and dessert took like an additional 30 minutes at least to come out. Recommend the burger, chicken waffle appetizer, wings, papaya salad (overpriced, but diet friendly and tasty). Ambiance is really good. Great date spot. Both had good flavor & texture combinations with a perfectly acidic vinaigrette mixed with a symphony of sweet, savory, crunchy, and smooth morsels. Both sandwiches were great, nailing the fundamentals and providing juiciness & taste in every bite. Dessert was a fantastic flavor combination as well, with the ginger cookie combining and getting smoothed out by the sweet chocolate creme brûlée, and brought full circle with a crisp bite of mint in between. WHEN: Wednesday @5:30pm It was heat wave kind of day and I was glad my group of 6 ladies was seated in their lovely shaded patio area! This restaurant had plenty of that! For Happy Hour here's what we shared: DEVILED EGGS - $2 pork rinds, calabrian chili oil, chives. This is 2 halves (1 egg), and it has pork rinds on top! I loved it! It brings that nice crunch! Overall very tasty and not your usual deviled eggs. OYSTERS - $1 $1 for an oyster. I had about a dozen...well pretty much however many was left. They were really good I shouldn't be surprised they ran out. I can't tell you from which ocean they are from but it's a great deal and it was delicious! FRIED PICKLES - $8 pt. reyes blue cheese, buttermilk dressing. I'd never order this because I don't care for pickles. But this was really good! There is good amount of fried batter that seems to work well in the ratio amount to the slippery slice of pickle. I enjoyed e dipping sauce too. HERBED TRUFFLE STEAK FRIES - $9 beer mustard, tomato jam, pimento cheese. This was just okay. I didn't taste any truffle flavor. I enjoyed myself very much here. New favorite spot! Went on a pretty busy sunny-Sunday and the service was quick. Great selection of foods. Overnight oats were jaw dropping delicious; warm, fresh fruit. Chicken and waffle bites were delish; the strawberries were such a nice touch to the bites. Huevos rancheros were just as good, a little tricky to eat; it had a spicy touch to it! They also had a DJ which was pretty cool, the music was sometimes too loud but still dope. I hear they also have live music at different times. Can't wait to go for dinner! read more

It was the gluten free popcorn chicken for us! Just got home from Curio Bar in San Francisco with my instagram husband after another unforgettable date night adventure in the city before baby arrives! We had a fabulous dinner + dessert out on the covered patio. The heaters kept us toasty and the live piano player was fabulous and kept us there chatting for hours!
