I just happened to be in the area after leaving a fitness center nearby, hungry, and in the mood to try something featured at Culver's. I have always had an interest in Culver's, but never had the urge to visit until I discovered the harvest veggie burger off of their website. This Culver's location sits along W Roosevelt Rd nearby a Jewel-Osco grocery store that I visit sporadically. And the parking lot itself is private and there are plenty of parking spots available. Upon walking in the door, I received a warm friendly greeting from two employees who were updating a bulletin board which was totally unexpected. While waiting in line, I had plenty of time to browse through the menu to see what gauged my interest other than the harvest veggie burger. After the customer ahead of me had ordered, the employee took my order, giving off a very unenthusiastic vibe in the process. As visited for, I ordered the harvest veggie burger along with a side of steamed broccoli, and a drink. I chose steamed broccoli in order to try something other than fries. And my order was completed within an acceptable timeframe as I waited for it in the dining area. Service: 4 (Good) I have to say that the relaxed environment, and the fact that I was hungry after my workout put me in the mindset to dine-in. The dining area itself appeared clean with a number of tables and seats available. And I must say that the atmosphere at this Culver's feels very comfortable in comparison to other fast-food restaurants in my opinion. Atmosphere: 5 (Great) As for my order, I felt that the harvest veggie burger could have used a little bit more mayonnaise but that is just me. Other than that, I did enjoy it. Next time I plan to order it with a side of either cheese curds, or crinkle cut fries because that steamed broccoli just did not contribute to me being satisfied at all. It's been over 20 years since I last went to Culver's. I remember the food always being delicious and then service being just as good. While breaking up my commute home from work, I decided to stop in for a bite one evening. I was immediately reminded of why I was a fan years ago. I forgot that the ground beef on the burgers were not like the patties at McDonald's, Burger King, and Wendy's. The patties at Culver's are like what you get at gourmet burger shops. Love the crinkle fries and since Dairy Queen is a hard find in Metro Chicago, the malts and shakes are the next best for ice cream treats. Culver's is a place that I believe is very Midwest in origin. There are 2 things that you should get or intend to get coming here and those are their butter burgers and concrete custard. Both are very strongly dairy based and are what they do best. ATMOSPHERE/ARCHITECTURE: 7/10 This is a nice bright location that seats a decent number of people. It likely seats 40+ people and there are a variety of seating choices. SERVICE : 8/10 Culver's gives me a 1960s diner-esque feel with the modernization of fast food. You come in, order and then you get a number where your food is brought to your table. This is what gives that old time small town vibe to me and I'm sure this is a part of the reason people enjoy Culver's. FOOD: 8/10 Of course, besides atmosphere, the most important thing in a restaurant is the food hands down. And Culver's most certainly delivers. The Original Butterburger - The classic single patty burger with lightly buttered buns that really keeps the buns and burger moist. The burger comes together well in your mouth with the buttered buns. The few complaints that I have are that the patties are a lot thinner than I expected and the burger presentation is kind of sub par. The taste is all there though. Cheddar Butterburger with Bacon - I think this one is my favorite of the butter burger options here. A stronger cheese with the crunch of bacon is probably the perfect burger. One of the best burgers available at a fast food chain in my opinion. Weaknesses are kind of the same. The presentation is lacking and the patties are on the thin side. Reese's and Oreo Concrete - Custom made for my tastes. Amazing. Frozen desserts come in several varieties from frozen yogurt to ice cream to custard. Culver's specializes in the thick and rich custard. And I must say outside of the health conscious calorie counters, custard beats out both ice cream and frozen yogurt for me. VALUE: 7/10 It's fast food essentially. I think the value is above average here for what you pay for. PROBABILITY OF RETURN: 7/10 Definitely will return to Culver's when I get the craving. I mean, I am probably more of an all things food addict, but I seriously love French fries despite knowing they are commonly one fourth of my recommended daily caloric intake. I love fries so much I could eat fries twice a day. But I don't. Culver's is different in that it offers a lot more than fries. Yes, the crinkle cuts fries are delicious and are always piping hot. But Culver's butter burgers are also pretty darn special in their own right. And then there's the CUSTARD. I love their custard. I am impressed the various custard of the day options and absolutely love that you can purchase pints in their freezer to take the frozen love home with you. There are tons of pre packages pint flavors to choose from here and they are $2.50 on Tuesdays. This is quite the deal considering the cost of a scoop here ($2.39) or the price of custard at a boutique establishment. If you were inclined to stock up, there's a 4 pints for $9.99 deal with your name on it. If you can appreciate crinkle cut fries and custard, you have to stop in and give this place some love. I have eaten at this location several times over the course of six years. Sunday's meal was the first bad one. First, the cashiers are always nice and friendly. My order has only been wrong once. Secondly, it took longer than normal to receive the order. But I understand the staffing shortage and I was not in too much hurry (even though I had not eaten all day). Finally my good was served. First of all, I only wish I had taken pictures of the sandwich that Culvers gave us. We mistakenly ordered the Cod Basket and that is what we received. But what we really wanted was the Cod Dinner. So that was our mistake, but aside from placing the wrong order the sandwich they gave us was over cooked, crisp and was a half hollow piece of fish. Certainly not the Culvers quality I'm accustomed to. We didn't realize how bad the sandwich was until we got home and opened the box. It was not what we expected. I then returned the sandwich and spoke with the cashier who then engaged the manager. I explained to him that we made a mistake and he apologized and gave us the meal we wanted by subtracting the difference of the Cod basket and the Cod dinner. At this point I was satisfied. I then went back home and opened up the Cod dinner they had sold me and the fish was dark brown along with the onion rings. My experience at this Culver's was nothing less than total disrespect tonight. I have never been to a Culver's where their employees behaved in the manner displayed tonight. What started as a simple order turned out to be too complicated for the girl at the drive up. I asked for marinara sauce for my cheese curds and extra onion on my burger. When I got to the window, I said it again. She didn't acknowledge me and surely didn't care. She preceded to take my payment and closed the window on me with no directions. Culver's is the example of what all restaurants should be. The customer service from all the employees is TOP NOTCH! Every employee is so polite and seem like they actually enjoy their place of work, I LOVE THAT! Also, the bathrooms are always clean and fully stocked, which is one of the most important highlights for me. The food is very delicious and prepared with quality, I have never had an issue with any order, unless if i should complain to them about giving me extra fries!!! LOL!
