My husband wanted to experience his first Chicago beefs sandwich so our friend brought us here. The person taking our order outside didn't hand us a menu until we had already placed our order. I ordered a Breaded Whitefish Sandwich and cheese fries already per my friend's suggestion. Then I saw the menu and and am pleased to see they now carry a plant based hot dog. Mental note to try the plant-based dog next time because I really want one! We got our food to go so we didn't see the inside of the establishment. My husband got his Italian beef sandwich "wet" dipped in the juice. He really liked it - he wolfed it down - and he described it as "hefty" meaning he didn't need to eat the rest of the day haha. My friends got double hot peppers on theirs. My fish sandwich was good, with a piece of melted cheese and lettuce on top. The French fries are crinkle cut and the sauce is a gooey nacho sauce. I used to love Portillo's. It was always my go-to fast food choice, but the quality of the food has steadily declined over the years. Initially, I thought it was the location, but that has proven false. From the city (Canal) to Villa Park to New Lenox or Naperville, it's all the same. The food simply doesn't taste the same. I'm inclined to blame covid, but I honestly think the decline started happening before that. I stopped by this location and picked up a couple of dogs and fries to go. The fries were lukewarm by the time I got to the car, and the fry container wasn't generously filled. They tasted okay, though. At least they didn't taste like they'd been fried in old grease. The soda was flat, and the hot dogs were just okay as well. I've had this ongoing argument with a colleague who has always contended that Portillo's is "trash." Lately, I haven't been able to combat his point of view. This location does have a cool retro feel, though. It felt like a 50s diner, which was cool. Portillos is falling off in real time. The quality of their food declines everytime I go. Not to mention the shrikflation has gotten out of hand. The portions are so small while the prices are sky high, it makes no sense at all. The interface was easy to navigate and it was easy to add or take off toppings. The orders were all correct, it was piping hot. My boyfriend went to the pick up area to get the good. It was taking some time and I thought he might have ghosted me. Eventually, he arrives at the table with the food. I was thrilled to find that Portillo's Forest Park was right down the street from where I work. And it was only a matter of time before I made my way out to get a plant-based garden dog which I have grown to love. As a vegetarian, it makes me happy that Portillo's has the plant-based garden dog because it gives me a reason to visit. Its plant-based garden dog is made with 100% plant-based protein and crafted for Portillo's by Field Roast. I have ordered it a few times in the past at other locations and it appears and tastes just like a Chicago style hot dog. As for this location, there are ample parking spots available, and its parking lot is not even shared with any other businesses. Its outer exterior is very classy looking which was the first thing that caught my eye initially as I drove along Roosevelt Rd. Since this location is always congested like many other Portillo's locations, I ordered online with yelp which was very convenient because I was in-and-out after confirming with an employee my name, and what I ordered. I was inside long enough to admire its unique retro interior decoration. Atmosphere: 5 (Great); Service: 4 (Good) The plant-based garden dog was delicious as expected! Definitely what my taste buds desired and received! Now, the crinkle-cut fries are something I will always yearn for. I love Portillo's! I could go here multiple days per week and be happy. I love their itailian beefs, Chicago hot dogs and grilled burgers, and of course their crinkle cut fries! I have tried their plant based hot dog and I am telling you- I see why it ran out when it first launched. It is DELICIOUS! You can't even tell it is not a beef hot dog! You have to try it! I've recently ordered the garden salad with Caesar dressing and added grilled chicken on the side so that it didn't wilt the salad. The salad was really big, very fresh both times, and the chicken was juicy. I could have used a third container of dressing, but the dressing was great, and the bread and butter were good too. It is a little pricey at nearly $15 for a drive-thru meal, without beverage, but it beats cooking in this heat. The drive-thru lines are a lot shorter now than they used to be, but also slower. An order was placed days in advanced and confirmed the day before for a funeral luncheon . The food was to be delivered at 3:30 . At 4 pm a called was placed to find out where the food was . They said driver is on his way. They are 20 min away and should be there any minute. Another called was placed and said food was still not there . They said driver didn't show up . So they lied. Said Louis the manager was dropping it off and would be there in 5 min . He did show up 20 min later. Said they threw in a cake which we didn't need as we had 2 cakes already coming with the order. A Chicago classic. I stopped by this location for a late lunch after an early day off work and was surprised to see the long drive thru line, but it passed quickly. They definitely have a system down, but they have you order before you can sneak a peak at the drive thru menu so definitely know what you want to order before you get there.
