We chose to dine at Culpepper's for our 1st anniversary at the recommendation of my father in law who's opinion on good steak is always right on point. It had been a few years since he ate there, and it seems they have failed to maintain their quality. The house salad and poblano soup were amazing, but that's about as good as it got. My husband ordered the 10oz filet mignon and I ordered the Prix Fixe with grilled shrimp and had a few bites of his steak. The filet was either the worst cut filet we've ever had, or they were trying to pass a sirloin as a filet for an obnoxious price. In addition to it not being the right cut, it tasted as if they had seasoned it with pure butter and nothing else. The grilled shrimp was over cooked, but the veggies and mashed potatoes were okay. The lobster mac n cheese was just okay. We wouldn't order it again, but understand why some people may like it. To sum it up, we paid a lot of money for a meal I could have made at home with little effort (-the mac n cheese). Salt Grass steak house would have been a better meal for half the price. read more

Big sizes were good. Cleanliness could of been better .we were sat in a corner and above me was a picture frame with a blanket on it and it was so dusty it was grossing me out . I hate to say it, actually wait. No I don't. Texas Roadhouse has a better steak. And it's cheaper. Don't get me wrong, the big old Ribeye I had wasn't bad, but it wasn't as fantastic as I'd hoped it would be. Maybe I need to try something else on the menu and do a follow up or try it on a weekend when they are on their A game. I wouldn't really go back and spend that kind of money on a steak unless I was invited to come along with someone else. I'll just stick with making at home or going to Roadhouse lol. I will say however, the side dishes were pretty good. And so was the calamari appetizer. Oh and the atmosphere was really nice. Like and elegant rustic vibe. We celebrated our 10 year anniversary at Culpeppers and couldn't have selected a better venue. Dim lighting (not so much that you couldn't see), tone-down music, great service and an extensive wine menu. Chad (Executive Chef) knows his wine. Ask him, he'll steer you in the right direction. I've been to Culpepper's twice. The first time of 11 years ago when I graduated from high school. The second time was last summer when my father-in-law was in town. I feel it's definitely a special occasion restaurant. Food: So good. Steaks are perfect. Service: Also fantastic. Super friendly and attentive. Atmosphere: Kind of dark & intimate. Lots of room for groups w/ plenty of nooks and crannies for private parties. Lots of nick-knacks on the wall. Value: Could be less expensive, and I'd go there more. Came here for a light meal the other day. I've been here before for a family dinner. The service was excellent both times. The first time our server broke some glasses and spilled a little wine, but I think he was new and nervous. The downside was the last steak I ordered and the crab croquettes. The petite filet looked... Odd. It looked more like a sirloin pieced together by meat glue and only about half an inch tall. There was almost no flavor to it either. The crab croquettes were extremely sweet because they are basically fried balls of cream cheese with a little bit of crab. The Caesar salads were swimming in dressing so the next time I go back I guess I'll get dressing on the side. In all reality I'll probably opt to go to the Oar House next door. read more

Best steaks I have ever had. My husband and I had our wedding reception for 250 guest there and the staff was amazing. They took great care of us and everyone was amazed that the servers were so attentive and how perfect the food was. We recently went back and it was so good. Had our family Christmas Eve dinner here and am highly dissatisfied. 45 minutes after we sat down finally had our cocktails served. Bread was served after an hour.2 hours in our food was brought to the table. My 16 oz. prime rib was tough and to be honest, I've had better steak at the Texas Roadhouse. We made this our pick for Sunday brunch last weekend. The ambience was slow, there might have only been two other families eating breakfast at the time. It wasn't the best place to decide to have brunch at, but I heard how wonderful the chicken and waffles were so I had to try them. It wasn't "to die for" but certainly was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy and THAT was DELISH. I wish our waitress would have asked if we had been there before (this was our first time) and given us some good recommendations. It may not be our place for brunch since it doesn't give a very brunchy vibe, but we may try it again another time for lunch or dinner. Mimosas are $5 with $2 refills. Went there yesterday for Sunday brunch. They had just started a new brunch menu. We had a party of nine and we tried just about everything there was on the menu and everything was excellent. The atmosphere is fantastic. I love the rustic look and the dim lighting -almost a little too dim- but it's very romantic. The house salad with the pecans and lemon dressing was refreshing. The Ribeye steak was tender and juicy, but I thought it lacked a little in flavor, just a little too bland for what I was expecting. At home, we grow our own beef, I just use garlic, crushed black pepper, & sea salt to season and grill- nothing fancy and it's perfect. I was excited to find garlic mashed potatoes but was disappointed that I didn't taste garlic in my potatoes. For the price I probably won't go back. I have no problem paying $37 for a ribeye & mashed potatoes if they are amazing, but not when they are average. I will say the coconut rum, cranberry & oj mix drink I had was yummy. read more

Lobster mac was also a very nice side dish. I had read reviews and decided to try it. Surf and Turf was delicious. Scallops versus lobster is served with it. very nice. Service was a bit slow. May have just been the night. The band in the bar on the weekends are also very entertaining and good. Overall...a great restaurant. One of our favorites in Rockwall. My first trip in and didn't expect to pay $50 for a steak. Steaks good but not sure the setting was high end enough to warrant the price. Appetizers pretty basic - not very creative or especially unique tasting. Large portions- would recommend, particularly if you had appetizers and/or salad to consider splitting main course. Well, as a Heath resident for 20 years, This was our go to steak house. We went here for our anniversary on 11-07-2020 and was completely disappointed. When we arrived with a 7pm reservation, they informed us the kitchen was backed up and wasn't able to be seated for 30 mins. Not a huge deal. Once seated, we ordered a Waldorf salad and jumbo shrimp cocktail, both were no better than grocery store quality. Dinner entrees were the ribeye and sea bass. I had to send the ribeye back twice for it just being raw. Sea bass was ok but it's never fun to wait with one entree. Sad that this pinnacle has slipped to Logan's road house quality. This was a real surprise. The location is completely unassuming and you could easily miss it however you shouldn't. This was originally a farm house and barn over 40 years ago. They have kept a lot of the original history and then added on. One of the bars is actually tied to the Beetles and was bought and transported from London. I personally enjoy the private dining nooks throughout. The service was excellent. Personal, professional and incredibly friendly. Chef Chad visits with customers and is incredibly knowledgeable about the restaurants history. He very much wants to make this restaurant your personal steakhouse. He has been creating and cultivating this menus for over 15 years. The Cesar Salas with fried lobster Croutons lived up to its award winning reputation. I had the Waygu sirloin and it was fabulous. My better half had the chefs special New York Flight. 3 separate cuts prepared Cave Man, Peppercorn and regular style. Hands down the most amazing dinner. As if the steak was not enough the bed of scalloped risotto it was served on just topped everything off. The wine is very reasonable actually on the cheap side for a steakhouse like this. Hosted a baby shower in one of their private rooms and could not be more THRILLED with the experience. They let us in super early to decorate without requiring any additional rental fees. When we arrived the tablets were neatly organized but the staff helped move things around and add extra accent tables as needed. We had dinner on October 17th with the brother in-law and sister in-law. I wish I could remember our waitresses name because she was absolutely amazing to us. It came up while conversating with her that my husband has brain cancer, she apologized and walked away. We continued and dinner was fantastic. It's time for the check and when we were looking over it, Culpepper's comped mine and my husbands meal and wish us hope and for healing of my husbands cancer. My wife took me to Culpepper and we typically dine in downtown Dallas area. My wife made reservations for 7pm and we arrived at 6:45pm. We went to the Bar and at 7:20 I went and asked the hostess if when our table were be ready. We were seated and the Hostess did not have a good attitude. Long story short..while we were at the Bar- one of the Servers did a double shot right in front us and he received his shot from the bar tender. Our server at the Table came to us after we ordered 30 minutes later and stated HE FORGOT OUR SALAD. By that time I just got up and left. Was expecting garlic mashed potatoes to be full of garlic flavor and they weren't at all. The waitress kept messing up what we were ordering. She would repeat back the order and it was wrong all 3 times. Bacon appetizer was pretty good, Wagyu had no flavor and ribeye was hard to cut with such dull knifes. Overpriced steakhouse for what you get. I would recommend 3 forks for the quality of steak. If you are looking for something cheaper, I would recommend Saltgrass. I took my family there last night for a special occasion and it was good, but not 330.00 good! There was 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Me and my husband both had 2 cocktails and the kids had water. The service was excellent, food was just good. We got 2 appetizers, the spinach-artichoke dip was only on the bar menu, but the waitress made it happen, that was nice. We also got the jumbo shrimp cocktail. It was 15.00 for 5 shrimp and a ton of cocktail sauce. I assume it was good, I didn't get one. I had the petite filet with the chicken fried lobster. The steak was perfectly cooked and the lobster was okay. My husband and son got the Angry Bull lobster and rib eye which I think was 59.00, and his girlfriend got a 40 dollar strip. Now don't get me wrong, everyone thought it was good, but not 330.00 good. I think the steaks at Saltgrass are seasoned better and priced better, plus it comes with salad and a side. I did order a piece of chocolate cake that was 9 or 10 dollars to go. It was the size of a happy meal cheeseburger. At Saltgrass, a piece of cake will last 4 people a few days. Bottom line, if you have money to burn, go try it. If you want a good steak with all the fixing, and you don't want to break the bank, go to Saltgrass!!!! read more

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. Tonight we were told we had to wait because they were short staffed although the restaurant was almost empty. My son ordered the halibut which had to be sent back because your was cold inside...not cooked all the way through. We had to wait for a long time just to get our bread. The rest of the food was okay but not spectacular as it once was. Since Chef Chad left things have gone downhill. They have sea bass on their website but not on the menu in the restaurant so that was a disappointment as well. read more
