    Coconut Mint Margarita

If you're in Rockwall and deciding where to go, The Downing makes it easy. It is truly a GEM. The cocktails are always on point--this time I tried the coconut mint margarita and it did not disappoint. They even have great mocktail options, which I love when you want the experience without the alcohol. The most unique one that I've tried is the Pho Ya - it's Pho inspired and actually delicious. Cocktails and the menu are seasonal so you always get surprises. My favorite food options are the Salmon Poke, Beef & Rice Bowl, and the mussels. What really sets this place apart is the people- starting with the owners. The servers actually remember you, the owners are intentional about creating a unique, welcoming space, and you can tell they genuinely care about the community and giving back. The whole team feels connected--you can see they truly enjoy working together. And the vibe? Cozy in the best way. The patio feels like you're hanging out at home, just with better drinks and food. It's the kind of place you keep coming back to--and recommending to everyone.

OMG the Gumbo was perfection on a cool rainy day before Easter. The Bloody Marys were great too. Excellent service. We can't wait to come again. It was the perfect meal before our musical at Fair Park. We came from Winnsboro.

The Downing Bottles & Bites is a splendid gem nestled into the charming downtown Rockwall town center. The street on one side has been paved over for walking which is great, the eclectic ambiance inside is fun, the wine selection (and other spirits too) are deep and carefully thought out, plus the food is just really interestingly designed and quite delicious! I had a martini which had some oysters involved (made in house) that is voodoo magic but quite delicious and my other guest had a wine flight - a fun flight serviced in a tree. We shared the salmon dip as an appetizer - I learned that Chef David Hauffman broke down and grinds the salmon by hand to create this spectacular dish. We then also shared the lamb (looked like a thick stew served with warm pita) and grilled salmon (cooked to perfection with a crunchy top shell, perfect inside). Denise was an attentive, friendly and helpful server as well. And, Jenni (one-half of the husband-wife ownership team) swung by to hang out for a bit. Honorable mention to the animal skull above the toilet in the bathroom (pic included - you're welcome) The Downing is absolutely splendid and should be visited, so go check it out

Well almost a year later and we decided to pay another visit and the food doesn't really disappoint! The drinks are always delicious and the service is definitely attentive. My only draw back this last time and the time before I definitely felt slight judge, not sure if we go to casual ? Tho I've never seen a dress coded posted any where. Ambiance inside is typical wine bar vibes but i really enjoy the out door area minus the wasps lol but it keep you on your toes for sure. Still would recommend! Ps banana bread espresso martini is the best

What a Quaint place! This is a hidden gem in Rockwall that is a must visit. Great variety of wines, espresso martinis, and other Adult Beverages. The food is excellent and so delicious, whomever the chef and collaborator are, round of applause for y'all! I had the Lemongrass Chicken Bowl with the chili lime vinaigrette dressing and it was refreshing. I also order a glass of the Chenin wine and it was crisp and clean. I had a bite of my friend's Beef & Rice Bowl made with Red Angus and it was sooo good. I may order that on my next visit. The ambience was welcoming, relaxed and cozy. The waiter was attentive and gave great service. We went to sit on their outside patio after lunch to enjoy another glass of wine & feel the sun and found ourselves in hanging chairs accompanied by a friendly cute & calm squirrel to watch. Can't wait to go again, still craving their food.

Great atmosphere, great vibe, even greater people! Came here during the farmers market and Halloweekened events! The place is a lot bigger than expected and the hostess was fun to talk to, witty and expressive (I love love loveee people w character)! The bartender, didn't catch her name but she had dark hair and blue eyes. She was a sweetheart and gave phenomenal drink and food recommendations. I ended up listening to everything she said to get and got it. I'm not easily influenced however everything she liked, I loved and was already planning on getting. Guess great minds do think alike! We had the seared tuna, it was sweet yet savory. Every bite down to the ponzu was incredibly satisfying and mouth watering. My man had the muffeleta. He devoured it and the Sicilian salad I chowed down on. I love anything salad with peppercini's. The kitchen is quaint and the cooks, from what I can tell, put great love into their foods. Or what I call, art on a plate! Overall service was a 5/5, food 5/5, ambiance 5/5. Can't wait to come back! Also they have great HH and a wide variety of wines to choose from and FABULOUS cocktails. I had the pear gimlet and also a fig ginger spice. Both fantastically curated. My man had beers.

Had the el jefe Cuban sandwich. If you're looking for a perfectly American sized portion of a meal this is the one. Crispified to perfection with every bite. Salad on side, olives in it were delicious and firm and so were the pepperoncinis. So pleasantly surprised by this meal

The Downing Bottles & Bites never disappoints. My friends & I love to go for long lunches and wonderful wines. Their wines are personally tasted & curated by wife, Jenni & delicious bites & entrée's are superbly cooked by husband, David. My favorites are Baked Brie, El Jefe Cubano sandwich & Shrimp & Grits. Pictured here is the brie app. Great warm atmosphere & thoughtful service.

We wanted something new for our Sunday brunch and was really happy to have come here. We are usually now the wine going people but some of the stuff on the menu just looked so good that we had to come in. We walked in and right away the staff was very welcoming to us and had a table ready to sit down at. The vibe of the place is really relaxing and easy going. The staff was really on top of things for it being so busy. It really impressed me how quick they had our food out to us and how fresh everything was. Our food was surprisingly really filling too but it doesn't leave us feeling like we have the food coma lol . Definitely a cute place to come out and get something light for brunch/lunch. We will have to come back to try out the dinner menu and another recommended wine.

    Soooo cute

I love everything about this place! Insane selection of hard to find wines Including my all time favorite which I have never found anywhere else in DFW. Half price bottles on Sunday!! Beer/Wine TO GO!!! Food is 5 star every time!! I think they start serving food at 4 Right in the plaza and also a darling outdoor space. So -- the best part?!? The super styling bartenders So happy to have this spot so close to home

Does this establishment offer Happy Hour?

Not the last time I checked. But they do have certain specials.

I am running out of places with WiFi to work and enjoy bites with my trained, calm Pomeranian. Is this an option here? Sorry I am needy lol - WiFi…

Yes! The Downing is fully equipped for Commuter & Mobile Internet Workers with Free Wi-fi, power ports near seating, and outside patio seating with heaters is doggie heaven!

A week later and I am still thinking about the delicious food and fantastic service! We didn't wait…read moresuper long for a table and the hosts were great. We took my dad to dinner and he complained that it was a little loud, but felt like we sat right under a speaker. I explained to him that it was part of the "vibe". Other than the volume making it difficult to hear, everything was fantastic. We probably could have asked to sit on the heated patio. The chips were warm and fresh and came with both red and green salsa, and both were super tasty. My husband asked if I could make salsa like that at home! We ordered drinks and they came quickly. I appreciated the quality of the drinks especially since we mostly ordered from their drink menu. We ordered "The Good Guac" to start and our server made sure that it wasn't too spicy or anything for my dad. I thought that was very thoughtful that she asked if how it came was ok. For food we ordered street tacos, Baja fish tacos and the parillada en fuego. The food runner seemed confused and brought us another dish (maybe the Verde molcajete) but with the loud music the message that we didn't order it was lost in translation. My husband thought maybe it was what he ordered and started in. Because our server came to check on us so quickly, she caught the mistake right away. She apologized profusely and said they were bringing what we ordered. They allowed us to keep the dish, and no sooner did we have a few bites of the deliciousness the correct food came out. They checked on us quickly, apologized profusely, brought the correct food immediately, let us keep the other food, sent another manager to apologize and finally followed up with coupons to return after making sure we were satisfied with how they handled it. I understand humans make mistakes, so I feel like the recovery or response is what is important. This is the type of amazing service that will keep us coming back. We were actually happy with the mistake as we were able to try another dish we likely wouldn't have ordered (but ended up being our favorite thing to eat). The ambiance was fun, parking was easy, the wait was reasonable, the service was FANTASTIC, the food was delicious and food/drinks were made with quality ingredients. We'll be back!

I've got a mixed review of Vidorra. At the end of the day, I don't think I'll be going back but…read morethat doesn't mean it was all bad. First, the good. Well, the good was definitely the chips and salsa. The chips were lightly dusted with some seasoning. I didn't take the time to figure out what it was, but it gave them a nice kick. So subtle but so significant. Unfortunately, my experience kind of dipped from there. Service was slow and a bit inattentive. I got the Molcajete parrillada en fuego. The literal translation is mortar grilled over fire. I should have asked what that meant because most Molcajete dishes are heated over fire. What it means at Vidorra is cook the meat, drop a hot coal in the mortar and put the cooked meat with a little mole on a grill screen over the mortar. It's basically a fajita dish served on top of the mortar bowl. However, it doesn't stay warm. Needless to say, I was disappointed. That said, the verde Molcajete that someone else got looked as expected. No one else (there were six of us) raved about their food. So, I'm in no rush to head back.

Since we were going to the show, why not go for dinner? I mean we have never been. Love that you can book reservations online. Super easy to get through the gate and it has amazing views. We were greeted by the host who was so kind. The place was super busy, I assume due to the show. So, we had to wait about 10 minutes. Table right in the middle of action... 1 min... 2 min... 7 minutes no greeting nothing and a woman walks by and says she will be right us. Cool. Thanks for letting us know. Walks past us 4 more times and nothing. The good thing is clearly someone else noticed and brought us water and said she was helping while the server got caught up. Okay. Everything will be OK. Whole ordering our drinks the server took over. Ordered drinks. App and 2 entrees. Then she was gone. 30 minutes after seating... nothing. Not even drinks yet. 32 minutes... she brings my husband's can of beer. No glass. No manhatten. She says they are working on mine. After 32 minutes (at least 20 minutes after ordering our drink)... can we have a glass? 5+ minutes later she brings me my manhattan... in a wine glass? Before I smell it I ask if its a manhattan because it looked like wine (damn good pour). Her response... I don't know. Never had one before. And still no glass. A. The Manhattan was fabulous and a ridiculously amazing pour. And for the cost... damn. Thats amazing. We decided she never rang in our drinks. Its the only thing that makes sense. It had really quieted down and the bartenders were working hard. And thats fine. But own it. Another 40 minutes and she stopped by once. Said our food was coming. But honestly haven't had a server who seemed to care less about her table in quite a while. Food came about 45 minutes after ordering. We ordered the Philly egg rolls... flavor was awesome. But they were cold. Clearly they had been sitting... for a while. Literally the cheese had melted onto each other and cooled. The entrees came at the same time. Smash burger and chicken fried chicken. Both honestly really good. The mashed potatoes were cold though... not sure if its because they werent kept warm in the prep station or if our plates just died waiting on server. Flavors were good though, including the gravy and fries. Good seasoning. We asked for ranch. Can you believe she never brought it? Nope us either. Seriously. The service was the worst we had in a while. It seemed exlusive to our table/server. I finally got her name at the end... Leandra. I am not trying to put her on blast everyone has a bad night. When my husband asked about the ranch. She said oh I forgot that too.. no apologies for that or the entire night. I said well it has been a rough night... she said yep. Here's the check. We are super nice... lots of grace... but this service made me almost want to not return. But... this is a small business trying to create something for our community. So im going to return oncs more and score is based on potential. But please owners.... staff is hard to come by, and maybe it was a rough night... but no one will survive if 30 minutes with not even drinks and cold food is acceptable. Its a beautiful space, flavorful food and great energy im very hopeful.
