We tried this seafood eatery in the Rockwall town square. The aroma outside the restaurant was the first nice thing about it. The ambiance was simple, but the staff welcomed us and service was great. We shared the crab stuffed mushroom app. Delicious with two large shrooms, but for the price three would've been nice. I had the grilled fish tacos. These were delicious, well stuffed with fish and slaw and a couple of avocado slices and rice on the side. I was full and well pleased with the flavors. Mom's favorite are the crab cakes which are amazingly lite and fresh on the inside and crispy on the outside. I had the special spicy seafood soup with clear seafood broth and octopus, fish, shrimp, mussels, and scallops along with diced fresh vegetables including zucchini and potatoes and is served with toasted and buttered crostini's. A solid 3 1/2 stars based on overall experience. We entered and were welcomed by the guy at the door. He told us to choose a table and we did. He brought us over menus and notified us that our server would be by shortly. We waited a good 10 mins before a guy came over to let us know that he would take our drink order and someone would be over to help us soon. Mind you it was only two other tables seated and both with food and drinks. We waited another 10-15 before he returned to let us know that he would just take our order. We were not informed of any specials or even told anything about the menu. We asked questions that were answered and ordered. Kids had mac with Fries - the fries were super crispy and tasty. The Mac was CHEESING CHEESING Additionally there was shrimp tacos and a fried shrimp basket at the table and a side of Crab Mac. Nice little spot just off the square in downtown Rockwall! The calamari with its slightly spicy breading was really good! My husband's fish and chips were also good, and the breading was nice and light. I loved the Oscar style blackened redfish with the huge asparagus spears! I also liked their wine selections including Pacific Rim Riesling and Miraval rose. We also enjoyed the key lime pie and banana pudding desserts. I've only been to Pier 101 three times but it has quickly become one of my favorite local seafood restaurants. The atmosphere is always welcoming and inviting and the energy always feels celebratory anytime I go. On this visit I decided to try the coconut shrimp which included six jumbo shrimp and the coconut breading was so crispy and delicious and paired wonderfully with the sweet and tangy pineapple dipping sauce. The french fries were nice and hot and super tasty, there is nothing worse than cold fries and a Pier 101 that they never disappoint. My only suggestion on this would be that they also include a couple of hush puppies with the order instead of either or. Now their Pier Rum Punch was a nice little party in your mouth, the rum flavor was definitely there without overwhelming the fruity flavors of the drink. This is such a great spot for a date night or dinner and drinks with friends. read more

I'm so glad that Pier 101 has showed that it has staying power. I've been several times and each time, they've delivered a solid performance. My favorite lately is a half poboy with a cup of gumbo. It's a lunch special offered only Monday-Friday so today, since it was Sunday, I split a whole catfish poboy with my husband and we each had a cup (it's a small bowl) of gumbo. Blah in a word. We stopped by after finding Charlie's closed for maintenance. My first time here it was a Sunday and they had the game on. I ordered the house salad and jalapeño hush puppies. Food came out right away. Unfortunately my hush puppies were cold, so I sent them back. Replacements were hot, crunchy, with a real kick. Best item of the day. House salad was mixed greens, few croutons, carrots, and cucumbers. Dressing was good but at $8.99 nothing special for the price. Husbands catfish was not bad.
