We tried this seafood eatery in the Rockwall town square. The aroma outside the restaurant was the first nice thing about it. The ambiance was simple, but the staff welcomed us and service was great. We shared the crab stuffed mushroom app. Delicious with two large shrooms, but for the price three would've been nice. I had the grilled fish tacos. These were delicious, well stuffed with fish and slaw and a couple of avocado slices and rice on the side. I was full and well pleased with the flavors. A solid 3 1/2 stars based on overall experience. We entered and were welcomed by the guy at the door. He told us to choose a table and we did. He brought us over menus and notified us that our server would be by shortly. We waited a good 10 mins before a guy came over to let us know that he would take our drink order and someone would be over to help us soon. Nice little spot just off the square in downtown Rockwall! The calamari with its slightly spicy breading was really good! My husband's fish and chips were also good, and the breading was nice and light. I loved the Oscar style blackened redfish with the huge asparagus spears! I also liked their wine selections including Pacific Rim Riesling and Miraval rose. We also enjoyed the key lime pie and banana pudding desserts. Place was slow and restaurant was only 1/3 full. Music was great! 80's hits! Drinks brought quickly- thank you ! Mac n cheese crab was horrible- tasted old or crab tasted leftover or canned? Crab claw appetizer was tough and difficult to eat. Way too much Parmesan cheese. Horrible quality - we sent it back. Fried oyster and coconut shrimp were burnt and over fried. Hush puppies were dry and bland. Sauces were terrible. I'm so sad because this restaurant used to be so delicious. Quality of food is very bad now. I'm sorry but I cannot recommend eating appetizers and entrees here. Oh, but the banana bread pudding was delicious! Highly recommend it!!! It tasted fresh! Bathroom was dingy and floor was sticky. I've only been to Pier 101 three times but it has quickly become one of my favorite local seafood restaurants. The atmosphere is always welcoming and inviting and the energy always feels celebratory anytime I go. On this visit I decided to try the coconut shrimp which included six jumbo shrimp and the coconut breading was so crispy and delicious and paired wonderfully with the sweet and tangy pineapple dipping sauce. The french fries were nice and hot and super tasty, there is nothing worse than cold fries and a Pier 101 that they never disappoint. My only suggestion on this would be that they also include a couple of hush puppies with the order instead of either or. Now their Pier Rum Punch was a nice little party in your mouth, the rum flavor was definitely there without overwhelming the fruity flavors of the drink. We came here on a whim as I saw the place as we passed it in the car. I looked on Yelp and it had good reviews! Establishment looked clean. There's a bar with TV and fun music. We came before the dinner rush around 5 pm so it wasn't crowded yet. Their menu offered a lot of deliciously described discoveries. We ordered a cup of soup each for appetizers. My husband got the New England Seafood Chowder and I got the Cajun Seafood Gumbo. Both were very good. Then for our main course, I ordered a Combo Basket and I chose Crab Cakes and Coconut Shrimp with Jalapeño Hushpuppies, and my husband got the Crab Cake basket with fries. We planned on tasting each other's sides! Food came with the fun dips. I loved my dish and especially enjoyed the coconut shrimp and the sweet mango sauce it came with. My husband and I both had a crab cake left and some sides, so we bagged the leftovers up for me for work. I promptly forgot them on my way to the car, when I remembered them as we were driving down the street. I called and they said they didn't throw my leftovers away yet! Thank you!!! I'm sure people who've forgetten as I have ended up rushing back to get them as the food was delicious!
