After 13 -1/2 years of dining here for anniversaries and birthdays, and "just because", we will NEVER be back to Culpeppers.
The previous (3) occasions the service and food quality has deteriorated. As a frequent business traveler, it's easy to spot when an establishment you frequent is struggling.
It has been obvious they short staff the dining floor. The server we had both times (different women) seemed overworked, too busy, and running her own food and picking up plates to really be too terribly concerned with "Serving". Perhaps they can't keep servers in that market, or perhaps they don't want to staff it up appropriately, but for Mother's day weekend, it should have been a hands-free experience for our party of 6. Instead, it started with Wine being spilled on the table in front of my wife and mother, and followed up with lax service attitude, mediocre food quality (with the exception of the Shrimp) and ultimately a disappointment (yet, again.) Even down to the kids' grilled cheeses on texas toast, not arriving with melted cheese. Grilled cheese ? Really ?
I really don't know what has happened because up until about 2 years ago, we flat out were BLOWN AWAY by CCC. Now it's an overpriced and undervalue version of SaltGrass (Which has impeccable service and food quality, and if there's EVER an issue with either it is remedied in real time, before you leave.) No, I'm not affiliated with them, nor any other restaurant.
On to other subtleties of the experience that were a turn-off, my inquiry as to whether the cut up scraps of paper placed under ramekins and side dishes was because they were out of napkins or doilies, the "manager" of 1 yr. "Adam" met my inquiry with a response of "That's what all the restaurants in Dallas are doing, and we're just following a trend." (literally, cut up scraps of paper, that were invoices, or food packing orders, or printer paper, that's been handled by god knows how many hands (Clean or Not), and placed onto clean dinnerware, underneath a cup of butter, or a bowl of macaroni ? WHO DOES THAT ????
My calls this morning to Three Forks, Del Frisco's, Silver Fox, Stampede 66, Perry's Nick & Sams Grill, and Morton's on the tollway, were all met with "No sir, we've actually never heard of that. . .but we'll check with the Chef". I really tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, I mean, I'm sure in his year of management he's seen an enormously wide selection of Fare in the industry. By no means should my Mom, Wife or myself, who have been dining together for the better part of 20 years, have any kind of perspective on what fine restaurant service habits are.
All in all it's really a shame, my wife and I have spent years and probably a couple thousand bucks dining and entertaining friends and clients at CCC, and it had been a place without fail, we'd recommend when someone needed a showy dinner in a pinch. The options for live music, and a stiff cocktail weren't bad either if that's your thing.
Not anymore.
I cannot more vehemently recommend you STAY AWAY, and I will spread this message as far and wide in the local restaurant community, and on my travels abroad, warning folks to spend their money elsewhere, as I can. That's the patron's only recourse when the management won't take advice, and thankfully Social Media provides us that powerful medium for driving about improvement and change. Culpepper ownership, I hope this message makes it's way to your inbox.
There are far more economical, and frankly, much better options across the Metroplex that are just an Uber away. If you're not differentiating yourself on exclusivity, or the experience, you're just another steakhouse. read more
