I've tried Crux's beer in Portland several times and have been quite impressed with their beer, so when my wife and I were in Bend we decided to try out their tasting room. Even on a weekday, this place was packed during dinner time and we had to hang back before a couple of spaces at the bar cleared up. Once two spaces cleared out, we sat at the bar and took a look at their extensive beer menu. They had tons of variety, and a series called "Banished" that includes small or one-off beers. I tried out an interesting sour beer made with grapes that was quite tasty, and I tried out a couple of their IPA's, Gimme Mo' and Hop-Jack. I've always been a big fan of their IPA's, and these ones did not disappoint. I also greatly enjoyed the Snow Cave and Pre-Prohibition Lager. They have a large, great outdoor area with corn hole and fire pits. The interior is nice, clean and well lit, and I liked the way they presented the beers in the flight. The bartender that helped us out was very friendly and helpful, even when it was extremely busy and hectic. There isn't a large amount of seating inside, but the outdoor area definitely compensates for this. The next time I'm in Bend, I'm definitely hitting up Crux again for some of their great seasonal and one-off beers. read more

Standing ovation my friends, this place is the king of breweries here in Bend. My husband and I are brewery connoisseurs, and this one by far knocks everyone out of the park. I originally wanted to say the food brought me to tears but the husband said I sound creepy. Great brewery in Bend Oregon that we visited with our friends during our trip. Do to COVID they had different areas to order and pick up food and beer to avoid people hanging out in the same area. The outside grass area with benches was really nice on a sunny day. Our boys enjoyed the pizza and we got a charcuterie board to share. Everything was delicious. I got a glass of their stout and my wife enjoyed the Porter. We also stayed long enough for the taco stand to open and ordered tacos which I'm glad we did because it was delicious. The tacos are homemade and tasty with all the fixings you like. I have to say I was very impressed with the whole brewery and what it offers. Great place! All around this is my favorite brew in Bend. They have a huge variety, not just 10 IPA choices like some places. My taste runs towards the dark side (porters, stouts). Their "Banished" line is great. Taking away one star for the cost of the barrel aged beers (which I love) but $1 per ounce! Really? That's $64 dollars for a growler fill, that my friends is obscene if not a crime. I also said in a tip yesterday there are far too many children here. I don't go to a pub/brewery to have a bunch of kids running around screaming and crying. I'm a fan!! Bend does not play when it comes to their breweries! I'm A OK with that. Crux honestly caught my attention due to the name,well and the high reviews on Yelp. It's a catchy name and cool. When we drove up there was literally no where to park. I lucked out and snagged a close spot due to someone leaving. The inside is spacious, very open and inviting. There were people literally everywhere. I'd honestly have to say there were probably close to 65 people outside in the grass area chilling hanging out eating and drinking their beers. It looked to be a food truck/s outside off to the side of the building where you can order additional food. Crux serves food but it's not a lot on the menu, though we did find some great items. I ordered the chicken, bacon and sun dried tomato Panini. That was hands down the best Panini my taste buds have ever collided with. My husband ate the chicken sandwich which he said was amazing, I did try some and it was great but I preferred my own meal :) The dinning area is open seating, first come first serve. Just pull up to the long table right next to a few strangers, order your food and beer and just kick back. I loved the laid back vibe and feel. The employees were super awesome and helpful. I can easily see this place gets slammed and rightly so, it was amazing. I can not wait until our next Bend visit because we will for sure be coming back here! read more

One of my favorite spot in Bend. Amazing beers, food carts, and cozy but fun vibe. If I had to point out one little drawback, then it does get a bit crowded at times, especially Holiday or weekend evenings. Every time I am in Bend, I make sure to stop at Crux and always try my best to hang out here around sunset. The view is absolutely gorgeous, and I particularly enjoy the late evening - the hour before and after sunset. Beers have never disappointed and they have plenty from pilsner to IPA, from imperial stouts to barrel-aged reserves. One little thing is that it does not have the most options for ciders, but hey if you like cider, Avid (or Atlas as I've known it) is not too far away! After all, Crux is a brewery not a cidery so when I am here, I am here to enjoy all the craft beers. The outdoor space also has plenty of room for lawn games and family activities, alongside an assortment of amazing food carts - the Tibetan one is my favorite and the taco truck follows not too far after. I've brought my parents and my girlfriend here on a few different occasions and Crus has never disappointed! Get yourself there and I promise you'll enjoy! read more

We came by for a few tastings as we make our way through the breweries of Bend. The location is quite nice and had a big open area that looks like would be fun to hangout and enjoy some lawn games during the summer. We were here in the winter and the lawn was covered in snow so we stayed tucked away inside. It was quite busy but we were able to snag a table right as someone else is leaving. We came during their sundown hour, which is a $1 off draft pours between the half hour before and after sunset, which you can check the time of on their website. I thought this was cool. I didn't get to take advantage of this though since we went for the taster, which wasn't included. You get 6 tastings for $11. They had about 1 of everything and a few IPAs, typical of PNW brew pubs I feel. We had a wide sampling, including hazy ipa, stout, ipa, saison, biere de mars (a lambic), and a belgian style ipa. There were also a bunch of other euro style beers like german pils and hefs. All the beers were good to drink but nothing really was super memorable. The german friends with us gave an approving nod to the german style beers, but thought the pilsner lacked body. I think as a tourist, this wasn't a super good fit for us since we were looking to try beers that were interesting. It felt like Crux is a better fit for someone who lives in Bend and comes to hang out and enjoy a nice beer and hangout with some friends. - Locale Destination - It's on SW Division St and SW Colorado Ave (looks like it's located on 97 Bend Pkwy and NW Hill St, but you need to go around to get there) in Bend. From Colorado Ave, go all the way into Division St. Once you drive like 40 seconds in the very industrial area, you'll see the BIG parking with the very factory like building. It LOOKED isolated from others (other breweries and its major shopping/restaurant area) but it's not so much - distance wise. It's kinda hard to get there due to the one way street from the main shopping/ bar area. Inside is simple, modern, and industrial look. Chilled yet sort of sophisticated atmosphere without pretentious attitude. Big open space, big outside seating. Even from inside, you can enjoy a good sunset (though it's more like a "industrial" the sunset unlike the "full of nature" sunset you can enjoy in the other parts of Oregon) Despite of the location, the place was crowded. Service was friendly enough. Plenty of parking spots. Oh, you can see "HOPS" at the parking fence - "Hops" that makes flavor of "beer" !! Smash it in your hand - you'll smell the hop/beer! I thought that was cool. Happy hour : From 1/2 hour before sunset to 1/2 hour after sunset (Changes daily!) It depends on the glass sizes. Still cheap for the regular price. - Gluttony Expedition - They use beer for most of the appetizers. The foods looked clean and modern. Outcast: Tap. A bit hoppy, medium body, not bad. While in this area for my sister's bachelorette party, we stopped in at Crux Fermentation Project. I imagine if I lived in this area, I would be here quite often. It's an incredibly welcoming space with the indoor brewery with seating and bar, outdoor seating, and a expansive green lawn next door for kids to run around in while their parents kick back a few brews. I think my favorite architectural design aspect are the hop vines being trained to grow up long metal wires. We came an hour or so before sunset and the place was already packed. Just a heads up, everyone needs to go get their own beer to prove your 21 and over. Coming from New Orleans, this is a grumble moment, but I got that a lot on the West coast. Like someone else had mentioned, different types of beers will come in different glasses which is a nice attention to detail and taste. I wasn't sure what beer I wanted, and was given a sample which was nice. I went with the Saison with a clean, not too sweet taste to it. The bar staff was quick for the amount of people that were there, and the prices were good IMO. I wish I had gone with a flight that they offer as well. Space did get a little cramped as it got later, and for how much beer people are drinking it would be nice if there was more inside bathrooms but there are port-a-potties around the back if you so desire to use them. I don't often recommended beer drinking establishments to take your kids, but this is a perfect one. So play some "rock, paper, scissors" with your significant other to designate a driver, and go to town on some ales. read more

We dropped in after doing a brewery tour and distillery tour to grab something to eat. The building itself deserves 5 stars, it is beautiful, after my initial positive impression it went downhill from there. I ordered a cider of the day M got a beer our friends just got food. The menu states that they have a limited kitchen. M & I split the Cubano. Right off, they ask for a card to hold the tab, uh ok? We should have just paid right then. I get starting a tab at a busy bar, but at a bar in the afternoon, it made me feel unhappy from the beginning. The food was average, the potato salad was under seasoned. Here is my real problem with the place, our service was fine but in whole I found the staff to be so unprofessional it was distracting. Somebody get them a break room. One gal was at a table right next to us, with her head down on the table like she was hungover or tired, other employees kept coming over and checking on her. It was just so dramatic. I feel for her, bad breakup, roommate drama, nasty hangover whatever. But if it's that bad, go home. Shame on the management for allowing this to go on right in the middle of the restaurant. When we were rung up another employee was giving an employee a in depth back rub behind the counter. Whatever, it all was distracting and gave me a weird vibe. I get it's a bar, but this is some of the most poorly behaved staff I have seen. I cant even remember if my cider was good, I won't be back. read more

I wasn't sure what to think about this place when we drove up. I quickly realized that this is going to become a jewel of Bend. The sheer magnitude of the amount of in house beers on tap amazed me. I still think about this. My favourite during my time there was easily the 'on the fence'. I wish I could have a growler of this here at home. Alas, I am too far away. When I entered this new brewery I was completely enchanted. Once we got through the difficulty of finding this place that is. The facility is absolutely stunning and sitting at the bar affords you an excellent view of the gleaming tanks. I was also blown away by the fact that they had FIFTEEN of their own beers on tap as well as three guest taps. The staff is fun and quirky. They have a large outdoor area and there is rumor of them putting in a dog park so you can enjoy a brew with your pooch. The beer is pretty good, and how could they not be coming from Larry Sidor, formerly of Deschutes. They have a solid selection of European styles. For my own tastes I found all of them to be pretty sweet, even the IPAs. My overly hopped Portland palate was a little disappointed, but if you are averse to hoppy beers, this is a great place to seek refuge. Of everything we tried, my favorite beers were two of their IPAs and a pale ale. Taster trays come in quantities of six. The food menu includes starters, salads and hot sandwiches. They also possess a rare Saturday happy hour. We ordered minutes before it started and had no idea they even had one until they rang their happy hour bell. I've been to several establishments that give you a heads up that when you order that close to happy hour, that would have been appreciated. We got the beer pretzel with spicy beer cheese dip. I wasn't a fan. For the pretzel coming from the famed Sparrow bakery, I was bummed. It tasted like a doughy, wheat breadstick. The cheese had a mealy texture to it that I had a hard time getting past. The rest of the food that came out looked and smelled pretty good, so I would still be up for trying something else next time. They also desperately needed another person behind the bar. Seriously, who staffs a bar with one person on a Saturday night? It took half an hour to check out. Overall Crux shows a lot of promise and brings some welcome variety to the Bend Ale Trail. This place has something for everyone. Got kids? It's kid friendly & they have a children's menu. Got dogs? There's a huge dog park out back. Like food? They have a great menu using local ingredients & lots of veggie/vegan options. Love beer? There's 20 to choose from! This place has a great vibe. It is gorgeous inside & out, so it's hard to imagine it used to be an AAMCO shop. It was packed on a recent Saturday & I was bummed that we couldn't sit outside. Well we could, it was just too darned windy & cold! I can imagine coming here on a sunny day & sitting on the patio watching my dogs run in the adjacent dog park. Maybe in summertime. We got a few snacks for the table & a tasting flight. I can't say that I disliked any of the beers. I really liked the Sugar Daddy pale ale which wasn't too hoppy. I also really liked the Flanders Red & Nitro Stout (I'm a huge fan of anything on nitro). The nachos were yummy & the charcuterie board was amazing! Bacon wrapped figs? Oh yeah! I would have liked to stay for lunch but we had too many other breweries to try. I would definitely come back for dinner around sunset. Simply the best brewery in Bend. Tough Love really gives you some toughness how good beer should taste. The rest of the lineup is quite amazing as well. To say that you can't go wrong with anything is an embarrassment to how good their beer is. The porter is smooth as silk, something that I highly recommend. They had some German style beers as well which offers good variety. The small bites and snacks give you some decent options, although I felt it could use some change (bring back the sriracha cauliflower). The outdoor seating/play area is how most breweries should set themselves up so it gives a good chance for families to visit or bringing a dog over. The ambiance at Crux, invites fun and flair, it is Bend Oregon's athletic reign. Powerful lines, and masculine use of metal, you feel like your at a ski lift. Crux has a eclectic menu, it pairs well with the beer they serve, sadly I only ordered the hummus, with my beer. And, once again the hummus was excellent. My beer favorites, were "On the Fence", The Outcast, and a Wiesen Bock (spelling) which had a hit of bananas, yes bananas, and it worked, and would taste great with a curry! Now, the service, I kind of had issue with that. One server who voluntarily came by are table was very informative and helpful, and not only touted Crux, but, spoke highly of other Bend restaurants and micro-breweries! However, our waitress was less then helpful and when I asked for a tee shirt she disappeared. This was my favorite brewery in Bend. Great beer, great service, great vibes! I came on a holiday weekend and the place was packed! My group of 5 waited just a few minutes to grab an open table. The servers were really friendly and quick to bring out our orders. The only reason I can't give Crux 5 stars is because the food was not very good. I'm an avid brussels sprout lover, but we couldn't even finish the plate. If Crux made food the way they do their beer, they would immediately get 5 stars. One other slight downside - Crux doesn't have TVs. I came during the football playoffs and we had to watch the score from our phones! Ohmygod! These people got it goin' on, what with all the schnazzy Belgian style ales and some kick-ass IPA to boot. They have a sliding, dynamic happy hour every day that is 30 minutes on either side of sunset, which at time of writing in Bend is 6:57 PM. Did I mention they have a gorgeous tasting room/pub/restaurant thingy? It's true. There's a artistically fashioned plumbing vibe going on in there. That's right, plumbing vibe. Go and you'll understand. And they have big ol' glass garage doors that open up in the summer. There is seating outside as well, with a taco truck. The place is typically packed because, well, it's awesome. Get a growler filled before you leave, dummy. You'll kick yourself if you don't. I forgot last time so maybe I'm the dummy. read more

This place is the goods. My wife and I came here as a stop for our honeymoon and driven by the location's interesting name, we were hopeful on what would be there for us. What greeted us was a relaxed atmosphere both inside and outside and a bar area that read part industrial part mad scientist. I suppose the name truly reflected this mentality but we were unaware how much that would carry through. Seating at Crux is on a space available basis, but once you sit (particularly at the bar where we were sitting) they are quick to move and accommodate you. I will say that everything that we sampled, as far as beverages go was fantastic. Though we should have tried the sampler (6 beers), we headed straight for the Pils and Lager (both wonderful) as it was hot outside and they sounded great. For our meal, though, we tried the nosh plate they have and not only is it remarkable, it easily feeds two people. The bacon wrapped figs make you say, out loud "why haven't I had these before". The artisanal cheeses and everything in between (including, what I think, was smoked grapes?) were all amazing. If this platter is representational of the quality of the rest of their food, I don't think you can go wrong. Parking seemed a bit on the minimal side, but they had many areas to park/lock your bike up (which we did without incident). Definitely a must while in Bend. read more

Slow start but things got better -- We had a hard time finding the place because Google Maps steered us in the wrong direction. When we arrived we were really confused by where we were supposed to go ... Order at the counter? Be seated by someone somewhere? It was WAY. TOO. LOUD inside--this was not just people talking, for some reason they had the music cranked to a truly uncomfortable level. The person we asked where to sit seemed to think we were nuts--apparently you just sit wherever and the little table numbers stay at the tables, you don't get them at the counter. We found a nice table outside and were approached immediately by a server, which was a relief. The beer was quite good, and it came super quickly. The view from the patio was nice, and we liked the lights and the really cool fire pit. We ordered a couple of appetizers; the pretzel was good and the pickle plate was kind of odd. The pickles seemed like they were all brined together in the same oddly-seasoned brine. Not our favorite and not much of a "plate", which to me implies a variety of pickles. Not a big deal. Overall I liked the beer. The atmosphere outside was nice but I couldn't spend more than a minute inside due to the insane noise level. The food was all right. Everything seemed a bit pricey--including the small cheater pints. Luckily we hit happy hour which made it more reasonable. read more

This was our second stop in Bend after Deschuttes Brewery. It's a really cool set up with a fun ambiance. There's indoor and outdoor seating. We visited at 7:30pm on a Friday in November so it was chilly outside but there were fire pits in use at the outdoor seating. There was also a food cart set up outside. We sat indoors which was a really cool with the bar and tables set up next to the beer tanks. There was live music. We tried the grilled cheesy which was a little rich, the Brussels sprouts which were good but sweet and the kale chips which were surprisingly good! Grandma gets what grandma wants. And grandma wanted some delicious beer and so my grandkids brought me here. My old uncle Roy once told me it's not the things around you that make the beer taste Good. It's the beer inside you which warms your heart. My heart was warned with two flights, or 12x4oz beers. Grandma was able to try every beer. Gene was also hungry so grabbed and artichoke dip. Gene also quit smoking recently, and has noticed his taste buds getting better and stronger. He said this was one of the better tasting artichoke dip he's had. The beer here was so good, I decided to take some home to the grandchildren. After all, they are the ones who lug me around everywhere, and wait on me because I'm slow. My body isn't what it used to be, it's taken a real pounding in this lifetime. But I'm sharp as a tack and can spot quality and infinity when I see it. That's why I bought the $48 dollar growler which will keep carbonation. Kelvin likes to hike so this will be a great addition to his hiking pack. The one downfall I would say was I had a hard time parking.
