Scallop Pad Thai

I continue to love everything about Crush. Classy atmosphere. Great service. A menu that's updated on a regular basis, keeping some old favorites while sliding in new ones. Great specials.

Porter house steak with pressed potatoes and hot butter sauce

We went to the bistro for my birthday dinner. It was the first time ever for us. We were pleasantly surprised with wine selection and cocktail options. We ordered fresh oysters, very fresh and delicious! Our server was very kind and attentive. It isn't a big place, but has a personality. We enjoyed peach vinaigrette salad, pork belly, Asian curry udon with grilled salmon and pickled vegetables and porter house steak. YUM YUM YUM!! I got crème brûlée for dessert. It was topped with fresh berries and candied walnuts. It was amazing, highly recommended!!!

We have been here twice and the food is unmatched! Nowhere really has private seating. Regardless, the food and cocktails are amazing! Great service too.

Mac and cheese

Mixed feelings about Crush: it's your Anchorage usual downtown restaurant where they have several apps that are fancy and spendy: deviled eggs, oysters, Mac and cheese, and several interesting salads. I struggle with this because if we get an app, a salad to share, and two entrees it's too much food and our bill is over $100. The Mac and cheese has been on my list for awhile. It was pretty good. Honestly it's been several months since we went and it's not jogging my memory how it was so it wasn't memorable. Several other places have better. I got the cheeseburger. It was fine. Very very juicy. Standard burger nothing special. They also have a similar menu to other adjacent restaurants that have burgers mixed with Thai, mixed with two other ethnic dishes. What are they trying to do with a wide variety? Nothing else stands out to me. Also tried the crème brûlée. It was the smallest one I've ever had, they covered the top with berries and nuts, there must have been like 1/4 inch of crème brûlée. It's checked off my list and goes to the bottom.

This place was fun. The food was good. When we think to go out to eat, we're usually not thinking of going somewhere downtown. The service was fantastic and very quick. This place can get very busy so make sure you show up on time and be willing to wait a little. The place itself is very clean.

Orso was one of the few nicer restaurants in Anchorage that was open on a Sunday so we headed there after a very long day out at Seward. We arrived around 7:30pm. It wasn't super busy so we were seated immediately. Our server suggested some drink options based on what we liked (me: gin; my husband: bourbon). They were very good. We got the calamari appetizer - I loved the artichokes and thin lemon slices added in, plus both fried and fresh calamari in the dish. I got the Parmesan crusted halibut and my husband ordered the halibut with diavolo pasta. Both were very good. My dish came with asparagus and mushroom risotto; the risotto was pretty salty but still good. The fish was cooked well and I enjoyed it. Overall we had a very nice dinner at Orso, and I'd recommend if you're looking for a more special dinner. As I mentioned it was later on a Sunday so not busy - so the atmosphere was pretty quiet and the ambiance was cozy.

Everything we ordered was absolutely scrumptious. The flavors alone?! MOUTHWATERING. Every dish tasted like thought and care went into it, and I would recommend this place again and again. But what really made the night special was our server. She had to be one of the best in the city! This was my birthday dinner, and she made me feel nothing short of special from beginning to end. Even when it was time to leave, the hospitality continued. They boxed up our leftovers for us and took extra care packaging everything because they knew we were traveling. That small detail meant so much and earned them even MORE brownie points with me. The food, the flavor, the service, the hospitality--10/10 across the board. The PERFECT way to end my Alaska birthday adventure. I'll definitely be back whenever Anchorage brings me this way again!

I walked in alone on a weeknight for dinner and was told to sit in the bar (I did ask for an actual table since several were open, but was told they were for reservations only...) While initially off-putting, I still got a great view from my bar table and great service from my server in the bar area! She was knowledgeable, made great recommendations and was attentive; not just to me, but alsoto the tables next to me that I could hear. The Cioppino was perfect and exactly what I was looking for. The portion size was perfect for me, though the table next to me did say they were still hungry. I also did appreciate the little table bar snacks (mixed nuts, raisins, etc.) - you don't see those much anymore. The hotel itself is a bit dated, it was a bit tough to find and it is certainly expensive, but the food itself was worth it. I will say other surprise was the wine menu - despite boasting a sommelier and wine cellar, I did honestly expect a larger selection. But I was very happy with the wine I selected regardless!

There was a mix-up with our order--my husband ordered the porterhouse and I ordered the Cajun ribeye, but we ended up with two porterhouses. I'm a serious steak person (we literally buy beef from local ranchers ), so I definitely have opinions when it comes to steak. Mine was also closer to medium-well than the medium-rare I ordered. That said, the porterhouse was still good, even if it wasn't what I originally wanted. The drinks were great, and the wine selection really impressed me. They had several wines I rarely see offered at steakhouses, which was a big plus. What really saved the experience was the service. Our server immediately owned the mistake, the cook came out personally to apologize, and another employee was incredibly kind and brought me Cajun seasoning on the side. They even offered us a complimentary dessert. I chose the cheesecake and unfortunately... probably the driest cheesecake I've ever had. Definitely not my favorite. Even with the order mix-up and overcooked steak, I'd come back. Mistakes happen, and I really appreciated how the staff handled everything. Good steak, great drinks, an impressive wine selection, and genuinely nice employees. Next time I'm getting that Cajun ribeye!

In addition to that, took about an hour for our salads and appetizers to come out. The waiter was beyond slow, and kept telling us how awful his 1st week had been and how the restaurant had run out of most of the food menu and some drinks. We had to ask for water (twice) because he kept getting sidetracked (mind you, there were probably about 2 other groups on the restaurant side). The steaks were overcooked and didn't have much flavor. Honestly, the sides were probably the only decent part of the meal (almost another 50min after salads). By this time; patience was running thin all around. When asked where their bathrooms were located; the woman (presumably a manager of some sort) proceeds to tell us about having 3 restrooms in the restaurant and how one had a hole in the wall because someone punched a hole in it (because it was Father's Day)?! and she just did her best to cover it with a piece of paper because she's not a contractor, what the heck does my knowing any of that useless information have to do with where the bathroom was located? (Still wondering...) We were definitely not impressed with this place; we asked for our desserts "to go" and they still got our order wrong. Oh- and apparently everyone else was offered bread as they waited, yet my group was not. Definitely, do not recommended, unless you're not hungry and have 1/2 a day to waste. Save your time and money; go someplace else!

Somehow in the time-warp that was COVID-19-20-21...I completely missed this place…read more I wasn't sure if I had imagined that there was a meadery in Anchorage or not? I am here to confirm that it is, in fact, REAL! It's located in a tiny industrial park nook that's easy to miss. It's pretty much behind the Petsmart/Phonatik strip mall. It's on a small road you've probably missed before: 82nd street. The folks that run this mead-making tap room are some of the most authentic, kind business owners I have ever met in Anchorage. They all have day jobs and making mead is their PASSION. It was rather slow last night when I visited, so I talked to them for almost an hour solid about mead and wine and beer and liquor laws and everything in between. And I'm an introvert! They were just so fun to talk to! I got a sampler, mainly of their drier meads. They will tell you themselves, that their passion is more in the sweeter meads. And, after talking to them, I can see why! The character of the individual honeys carries through much more in a sweeter mead. Dry meads lose a lot of the unique character that comes very various different honeys. So, they included a sweet mead too, and I enjoyed it! My favorite was probably the collab they did with Double Shovel. It was a "cyser" (mead-cider hybrid) and was served carbonated. And it was on the drier side. Great stuff! I look forward to coming back! You've likely been within
