No one likes rejection, but that's no reason to shoot the messenger. Crossroads always has a wide-ranging selection of trendy clothing that keeps you well-dressed & ready for any social situation you may encounter. Besides, the company isn't rejecting you- it's merely staying in business by selecting clothes that will sell within the season, to the demographics of the local zip code. So here is how I've approached the task of selling to the very persnickety Crossroads: By category, things that sell: Brand-name, seasonal items that have retailed within the calendar year Foreign stuff (whose origins can't be traced) Shoes I've never had a problem selling shoes, because it seems that Crossroads will take anything, as long as it is well-kept and not ugly (though that goes without being said...) There *was* one crowning moment in my Crossroads-selling life when I sold a pair of $2 flats for $9. (Haha, eat it CR! =)) But to match it, there was also a very sad occasion when I got $7 out of a pair of brand-new, multi-colored hi-top Chucks. (The employee actually flinched as she named the price to me.) Still, CR is more forgiving with shoes- it won't exclusively take name brands. Anything with some sparkle & twist will sell. Clothing, on the other hand, only sells if it's brand-name stuff that was hanging off the shining, overpriced shelves of retailers within the year. I'm pretty sure the employees have a magical system for confirming this, because I once brought in two Abercrombie tank tops, bought within a year of one another, equally new and almost identical in style... and CR only took the new one (which, ironically, was purchased at an outlet.) However! If your clothing item is foreign (aka: European) and decently trendy, even a little "last year", CR will take it. (Probably because no one can confirm when it was made. It just looks/feels cooler when the tag is Continental! So what if your friend is wearing J. Crew? You freaking traveled to some posh little boutique just off Paris' Latin quarter to pick up *your* cardigan.) Of course, selling to Crossroads is never a lucrative business. CR only gives you 35% of the price it'll retail at in the store, 50% if you take the money in store credit. (Sneaky!) So the only time to sell is when you really regret buying something, but it's still brand new/trendy and you don't want to give it away or let it rot in your closet. Thus. You choose to recoup some of your losses at Crossroads. OR, you just have tons of money and can afford to shed clothes seasonally. I personally love the Crossroads-selling clique (esp. the latter sub-clique) because it keeps me stocked with pretty, new things, at shockingly reasonable prices. And by the time your shirt is out of style, you've worn all the value out of it anyway, and can stop by CR again for the next round of discounted brand-name offerings! Also: The employees aren't rude; they're just straightforward. They mean to get their job done well & fast. And for all the stuff I buy here, I *never* come in well-dressed... it hasn't made them any more snide/less courteous. Bottom Line: Banana Republic for $8... what can I say. read more

The clothing they have is simple, and plain. I found some items I liked so as I proceed to get rung up I'm informed that the register I'm is out of commission. So, I get moved over to another register, and get rung up again. Apparently, my card did in fact go through the first time, (after I had asked the first cashier if It had gone through, to which the cashier replied, "no"), so anyway, I'm at the second register and the cashier asks if I want a receipt. Um, yes...of course I want a receipt, every customer who purchases something should get a receipt! So, she pulls out the old-school-type credit card slips, and writes down each item I bought on this slipped, (I don't have a problem with this, as long as I get a receipt) and hands me the copy, sweet I got a receipt. She then asks if I want a bag... WTF. OF COURSE I WANT A BAG! Am I gonna walk out holding all the items I bought? I basically just left with a "WTF?" just happend feeling. No one apologized for the inconvenience of me having to get rung up twice, being told my credit card didn't go through, when in fact it had, and having to wait for a receipt which involved the second cashier writing each individual item down on a paper credit card slip. Then to top it off being asked if I wanted a bag. TL;DR - If you want some regular old clothes, bad customer service, and also have all the time in the world to get rung up then this is the spot for you! read more

One of my new favorite stores! I had a lot of slightly worn clubbing clothes and heels from my sorority days that I needed to get rid of since I am such a grandma lately. I tend to wear only basics such as dark wash jeans and loosely fitted tee and business casual clothes for work. I spent a week cleaning out my closet. I also did some research on stores around the bay area. First I went to Buffalo since I used to live by it. But then they barely took any of my clothes. Then I brought it to Plato's Closet which was a total fail. Here is a run down of the stores Buffalo: More into hipster clothing, the latest trend such as the grungy looking style. They took 1/4 of my clothing. Platos: OMG so rude! took like 1 item out of 3 baskets! Eugh Their staff was REDONK too. DO NOT GO! And their style is more of the a&f style/hollister ish. Crossroads: LOVE! They have such great staff, you come in write your name down on the sign up seat. There are benches for you to wait, and they have EXCELLENT customer service etiquette! They practically took everything I had, and gave me a great deal. I believe I have sold over 300 dollars here! I am so excited! Thanks to my great friend who recommended it to me. Reading the reviews at first where some yelpers said they only liked named brand stuff isn't true. As long as your clothes are in good condition and what college students around the UC Berkeley would like, they would kindly take your clothes with a great deal. Yay! I love how I am able to drop off clothes at this location! Amazing since parking can be a bit difficult. Overall, I think the selection is good but peeps really need to dig through. To be quite frank, compared to other discount stores (e.g. TJ Maxx, Ross, etc.) or stores with fab sales, (e.g. Macy's, Banana Republic, etc.), I'm no sure if you're saving much by stopping at Crossroads. However, I would come here if you're looking for an item to wear once or twice. Like a cocktail dress to a function. read more

This store is not big, but it is more organized and the clothes are way better displayed visually than its College Ave. counterpart. I walked in and was able to easily navigate and take in the selection racks in all of 15 minutes. They have a great selection of jeans, urban wear, contemporary t-shirts, some clubbing wear and dresses, even stuff for guys. I was SO pleased that I walked away with two shirts and a skirt that I absolutely adored all for less than $22 each. Not too bad in a recession. read more

If you are considering selling clothes here, I'd encourage you to not waste your time. Consider ThredUP instead. I brought in a large bag of clothes to sell to them. Many of the items were still new with tags. The staff member said he couldn't take any of it. Citing they weren't in style. Instead of throwing them away, I went online and asked for a free postage paid bag to send to ThreadUp. They're a little behind due to the pandemic but they sent me an email saying they took over 80% of the clothing in the bag - above the average of 60%. They even showed me my clothing listing on their website and how much they're selling it for. One was advertised as a "rare find" because it was from a luxury brand. So much for out-of-style! Save your time and money and sell your clothes to an online thrift store instead of coming here. read more

Unimpressed with the selling experience here, as the combination of wait time and available staff was absolutely dismal. Estimated wait time was quoted at 33 minutes, yet I waited closer to 1 hour and 15 minutes. The new iPad system is clever and seems resourceful, but the ability for people to I'm put how many items they have to sell seemingly creates a problem. Several of the people ahead of me had garbage bags full of clothing (definitely more than 6-20) items, which is most likely the culprit for the seemingly short wait time. Ugh such a bummer waiting for so long and I wish they would find a way to regulate this more effectively. In terms of clothing selection, I didn't not find anything that I wanted to use a store credit on because I felt that the collection of "in season" items were lacking fashion and taste. there were women's shoes with huge strata marks, stains, etc. The designer and consignment selections were out of season and notable for name brand recognition. The buyer assisting me worked well and quickly through all the garments, and she was very pleasant. This was the saving grace of this trip. I will stick to the North Oakland location as their merchandise and selling is of more benefit to me. read more

It totally squicks me out to wear secondhand clothing, but sometimes the prices can make me forget about strangers' DNA and skin flakes embedded in the threads of those cute-ass Citizens of Humanity jeans. This is a good place if you are a student looking for fashionable, on-trend clothes while on a budget. However, used clothes might not be in such a good condition that you could wear for a long time. As for the price, I think it is in the 'OK' range: most summer stuff is between $15-30，or even cheaper. Fall/winter clothes could be a bit more expensive, like $50 in most cases. A lot of the stuff is a hit and miss, and I don't have a lot of luck in the shoes/bags section. Now, I stopped shopping there for a while and started selling/donating stuff. They accept drop-off selling during Monday to Thursday, and you have the option to donate whatever they don't take. For things they do take, they give you 30% cash or 50% trade, and their selection criteria is always a bit unpredictable. Although most of their buyers on site don't have a good answer of which organization exactly they are donating to, I am satisfied that at least they are trying to recycle clothes and put them into good use. All in all, an Ok place for selling/buying/consigning second-hand clothes, bags and shoes. Some of the buyers could be a bit snobbish and unfriendly, but other staff members are very friendly. Mixed feeling about this place, but I did get quite some good stuff when I was a college student on a tight budget. read more

I was in and out less than 30 minutes, well it did help that I was the first one there because I came early :o) . This store is notorious for having the most douchey, stuck up associates of the company and that is overwhelmingly true. As someone that works retail, it should be expected to be providing excellent service post-lockdown and helping customers as much as possible. I understand the job can be overwhelming, but there was literally ONE customer in the store shopping around the people talking to me acted as though they were swamped. I was told I needed an appointment to sell, which was fine and I understood and asked if I could make one. They said I had to call. I told them I called earlier and there was an automated message. They looked at me as though I was lying and told me I was wrong or I called when they were closed. I told them it was ten minutes prior. They said they must have had a busy line because they're SO busy (one customer). I told them that wasn't the case, it automatically went to an automated message that said they buy. There was zero apology or customer service provided, just implied I was making it up and told me I have to wait until Friday to call and make an appointment. This was all told to me in the most rude, snobby attitude when I was nothing but polite and friendly (I hate confrontation). I stood outside and called the other Crossroads in Oakland and was greeted by someone very friendly and helpful and will be selling there instead. PS, the visual merchandiser here should be QUESTIONED. The mannequins look HORRENDOUS my god. Maybe I'm too old for this place at the ripe age of 25. read more

Pristine rainbow Low-top Nikes for $18. Hot. Damn. I'm mad at Crossroads for not buying more of my adorable clothes. But I still made $50 when I chose the trade option and so I got said fabulous Nikes And a huge metallic purple purse AND a pair of leopard print flats with little brown bows at the toes. Pretty much amazing. Especially considered how high quality everything was for used clothing. The employees are a little cold and sassy, so don't expect incredible service. The store is prolific. Discount designer stuff for boys and girls is on display on the walls and everything else is sorted on the racks by clothing item and color. Its all still a little overwhelming, especially for little shoppers like me who are plagued by ADD. I can't concentrate on anything for too long, especially racks full on tons of different clothes! Ah! My eyeballs are bouncing everywhere! But, if you have an intact ability to concentrate or a few hours to really dig in you won't be disappointed. Items range from the trendy to the unique. The prices are extremely reasonable which is great for college students on a budget who would prefer not to look homeless. read more

If you love over priced crap that you can get at Goodwill for way less then shop here. The clothes here are so overpriced it's not even funny and they don't even have that big of a man's selection. I will not be shopping here again that's for sure. Oh, don't even think about selling your clothes here either. Mens clothes I think not, women's clothes, maybe if it's like Gucci, Prada or Coach maybe and even then you won't get what you put into it and I think they take 30% taken off of what they would sell it for! Hit or miss. In college I used to come here like once every two weeks and usually find some cute cheap tops. I used to get frustrated with the pants not fitting the length of my legs but fitting my waist or vice versa so I didn't even bother.... However I was in Berkeley and happened to park right in front of the store and had 20 min left on the meter so what the heck, I checked it out again. It is so much more organized! And I swear it doesn't smell as musty either (to their credit it didn't smell that bad before, definitely better than Bancroft clothing aha). I would give this place zero stars, but that's not an option. I have tried shopping here before, but there is never anything over a size 18, so as a size 20 and up, there is little in the store for me. I have gone shopping there with smaller sized friends, and they never found much either as there is a small selection and most items are full priced what you would pay in retail stores. Today I went to sell clothes, huge mistake. I waited almost 2 hours to be called up. When you arrive you need to sign in on an iPad, but there is no sign telling you to do so (thankfully I asked others waiting). The store is ridiculously hot every time I come in, so waiting was very uncomfortable (you are not allowed to bring in beverages or snacks, so the wait was even worse). When I was finally called up, I was told that they could not help me, as I did not have my ID on me, and they would not sell to me without an ID. There is no sign stating this. I waited over an hour while pregnant just to be told to leave. The sales associates were not helpful, and I was not the only person denied sales. Another man next to me had waited even longer, and also, was told to leave. It's not worth the store's crappy conditions /customer service to go and try and sell there. I will just be donating my clothes and telling everyone to steer clear of this location. I have not been so frustrated with a shopping experience in years, and all it would have taken was proper signage to solve these problems. read more

I don't know why everyone is banging on Crossroads so much. Yes, they are picky about what they will and won't take if you are trying to sell/trade, and yes, their policies don't make sense when you see some of what is on the racks (H&M and Target clothing, and shoes that obviously came from Ross at not discounted prices), but who really cares. Just come here to shop and not sell your stuff. (I came in once with a pair of super cute pink shoes that I can't wear because they are too small for me and they refused them because of the kitten heel saying that was out of style now and they wouldn't sell... I feel like a lot of people go to Crossroads for things they can't find anywhere else, so who really is to say that they wouldn't sell...?) This Crossroads is larger than the one on College, though I am not sure how much longer this will be true since the one on College is moving to a larger storefront across the street. There is lots and ltos to pick from and try on. I easily spend an hour to an hour and a half here just looking. I almost always leave with something... even if I don't really need another skirt/shirt, etc, becuase the stuff is so dang cute, that I can't pass it up. The store is pricey, so it's best to not even bother thinking of it as a thrift store. Think of it more as the step between a true thriftstore and a true consignment shop (like those pricey ones on Main Street in Walnut Creek) and you will be good. You won't see items on the racks that are stretched out, oil stained, torn, faded etc like you would looking through the racks at places like Out of the Closet or the Goodwill so that is a plus. Your chances of finding something you like here are greater, although you won't get that exciting feeling of finding the one good item admist the crap for a bargain price like you would at those other places. One thing I don't understand is the pricing on the shoes and bags... the prices seem way to high to me for used. Is it just me or do others feel that way too? read more

My favorite place for trendier used clothing. Levi's for $15, DKNY skinny jeans for $17, Club Monaco pants for about the same. Anthropologie sweater jacket for $35. Not the cheapest place for used, but you'll run into stylish designer labels here a lot more often than Goodwill. Of course, there will be some days when there won't be anything to your liking, but that's how it goes in the used clothing trade. One time, they made a mistake and put away a sweater I had them hold for me while I was in the dressing room. It seemed to just disappear. They searched for the sweater, but could not locate it. They took my number, the label and a description of the sweater, and did call me shortly after I left the store to tell me that they did, in fact, find it! Customer service redeemed themselves! Every time I came by I've always found something to pick up and for cheaper than I could find it anywhere else. I can only speak for the men's section but all of their clothes seem to be in really good condition. Their displays are arranged clean, esp compared to some of the other thrifts I've been to. I sold a brand new sweatshirt that I picked up for $20 that I never wore that was sitting in my trunk for ages. They said they could pawn it for $16.50 and their policy is 50% in store credit, or 30% in cash so I took the 50% in store credit and bought a hoodie for $5 outta pocket. Not a bad exchange I would say. Medium in men's can be hard to find, but I always seem to find a gem that fits me every time I go there, so I can't complain. They used to have a wider selection of men's shoes but I guess the last time I went there they were low on stock or something. read more

So I came in to sell one time with my stage momma since he said I would need moral support as they sifted through and rejected my stuff. I decided to only bring things that were kind of quality and not the old stuff that was hidden in one of 2 walk in closets before I moved since I didn't want to drag a bunch of stuff around with me. As I was waiting for my turn, I looked through the store and a lot of the clothes were pretty gross. Lots of stains and rips but, hey, I guess they thought someone would want them. The person who helped me was nice enough. No critiquing or anything, just put things in piles. I managed to sell about 4 tops for $50 which was more than I expected. I donated a few things to the drag cause (I do not dress like a drag queen, dammit.) and dumped the rest at Goodwill. Very productive day. read more

If you're sellin', this is a good place to go. There's usually no line, and they take far more clothing than Buffalo, Mars, or any other consignment store in liberal land (a.k.a. Berkeley). I LOVE this place! If you like finding awesome trendy pieces for cheap, then you need to come here! You can find so many great deals here! I found my newest favorite shirt - houndstooth shirt - for $4.25. i mean seriously... where else can you find sugar boots for $16? this place is really worth checking out! Compared to the other crossroads in oakland, this one is HUGE! The only thing keeping this store from getting all 5 stars is parking. If you're not lucky enough to get a parking spot in front of the store, you may have to pay for parking. Oh... and about the service. If you smile, I'm sure you wont get bad looks from anyone. Eh, customer service for trying on clothes was quite interesting. Asked a genuinely polite question and was met with a "I honestly don't care" attitude. Employee was dismissive when I tried to explain what I was looking for. Jeans and jacket sections included a wide variety, but for tops and shirts you can find more options at Buffalo Exchange for better prices. I just really wish your employees - given the balance between customers and employees at a given time - would be thoughtful about asking if a customer needed help or if they're doing alright bc it's more likely than not that they can use some assistance or have a quick question. this review is solely based on my selling experience. I wasn't in the sifting mood so I didn't shop. I got there, line wasn't long, a plus! When it was my turn, the lady buyer was rolling her eyes at the people she just helped. She was barely looking through my clothes, i felt like she wanted to leave (the store was closing in 20 min). She was rude, didn't even unfold my clothes. A woman came in after me to sell and she was staring at her because she looked like she didn't look trendy enough. This lady had major attitude (rolling of eyes, blank stares), no customer service and not friendly at all. It's a huge store perhaps good to shop at, but i'm not taking my clothing here ever. The store relies on people like us to sell our stuff. At least be nice about it. Lol all the negative reviewers here just seem to be annoyed that the buyers rejected their clothes! You can usually predict whether your item will sell: Just ask yourself why you're selling it. Can you really be so shocked that another person doesn't want what you don't want yourself? Anyway the men's section here is infinitely better than Buffalo Exchange. Lots of half-off dealies and a somewhat preppier bent than B.E. - which has had nearly pure garbage for so long. So I came here during Covid-19. You have to give them your bag. So If you are dropping off clothing, make sure you don't allow them to "donate clothes" they are not interested in because they will literally donate everything WITHOUT letting you know that they were not interested. It's a big risk because they'll send all your clothes before you know if they saw value in it or not. They make you call them yourselves to retrieve this information and you'll have no idea if it's been appraised or donated yet. Just don't let them steal your clothes like I did. It is really suspicious to me, because it means they can just take whatever they want and pretend they're "donating it". Pepper couldn't even tell me what organizations or where the clothes were sent? She just kept telling me it's the contract I signed. My mistake. But how in the heck do I know it's not just sitting in their stock in the back. DONT SIGN AND LET THEM "DONATE YOUR CLOTHES" THEMSELVES. RETRIEVE THE CLOTHING THEY DO NOT WISH TO KEEP. i came in today and brought in two bags full of cute stuff and waited 3 hours and they bought 3 things and gave me 27$ for it one piece was a genuine leather jacket perfect condition, a vintage jean jacket with fleece and a pair of levi's jeans , and 27$ dollars cash 40$ store credit when they don't even have cute stuff in store and most stuff is outdated is literally robbery , i tried to ask for my stuff back but the girl said i would have had to have done that during the buying process but they told me to come back in 15min so i'm not sure how i was supposed to do so, definitely won't be selling here anymore read more

Rating this place is very difficult. From a seller's perspective - I want to clean out my closet without completely throwing away all the money I spent on my clothes. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to donate items, but not if the cost of the item was extraordinary (hey, sometimes if you see something you really like, you just have to get it, or else you might lose the opportunity, and it won't ever be there anymore! #noregrets). Crossroads is very picky about which clothes they'll buy from you - it depends on the season (spring, summer, fall, winter) and also brand name and style. For instance, in the spring, they want floral and bright items from women. In the summer, they want tank tops. Many people come in here with large bags/suitcases full of clothes, only to sell a few garments. The rest are rejected, and the seller must lug all of it back home - it sucks! especially if you walked to the place and you have to walk back uphill to get home (speaking from experience). Not only that, but the small amount of money you get in return is absolutely absurd! They offer store credit or check. The store credit amount is higher than the check amount, but both are still ridiculously low - they ring up a value far lower than the original price of your items, even if you still have a price tag on them. I never choose store credit because um, hellooooo ..... trying to GET RID of clothes, not GET MORE. I suppose it's better than $5 per item, or even nothing, but my clothes (which are still in excellent condition when I bring them in) are just not getting the appreciation they deserve - sigh. From a buyer's perspective - NAME BRAND clothes for DIRT CHEAP PRICES??! umm YES PLEASE!! Only downside is that most of these items have been worn by someone else, and who knows what they've gone through or if they have defects that aren't noticeable til you bring them home. If that doesn't bug you, and fashion is your thing, then by all means, check this place out! read more

I want to give a 'thank you' shoutout to the gal who is the same size as i am. keep bringing in those petite pants! i love the selection here. crossroads is a bit pickier than buffalo, so they have good stuff here. i was first annoyed by how they sort by color, but it makes more sense than sorting it by size because people would bring in their clothes that have shrunk a size down. i've gotten a couple of M shirts even though i'm XS or S.... it's a hit or miss here, but whenever i come here. it's mostly hits for me... the best days to come to stores (or any store) is monday or tuesday.. that's when they restock and also monday is the day after everyone has brought in their clothes from the weekend. read more

I have been here 2 times to sell my clothes and shoes. The first time there was a really long line after I signed in, which is understandable on a weekend. I went out for about 45 minutes and returned and still had to wait over an hour. They bought my Converse shoes and 2 tops. The second time was on a weekend and they bought my Steve Madden Birkenstock looking sandals. The wait wasn't as long, about an hour but they seem short staffed at times. They're very selective about what they will take. She said things within 2 years old and current trends. If you bring anything that's 4 to 5 years old, it'd be better to donate it somewhere. They didn't like any of my Express clothes lol... I opted for the cash instead of trade-in value since I don't need anymore clothes or shoes. Employees are pretty friendly. Tip: go after 6pm so you don't have to pay the parking meters. read more

Selling experience only. I got here at 7:45 PM on a Friday night and the store closes at 8. One of the buyers rolled her eyes slightly when she saw me come in.. well I was kind of expecting a hint of an eye roll and caught it.. but I really don't mind because I might have done the same thing (I brought in 4 huge bags, the rejects from Buffalo Ex.) She actually turned out to be really sweet because she was talking to my bf (worked together at Rasputins) so we were good. I was helped immediately by another associate. I told her "sorry for coming in so late" and she didn't respond. I'm not really going to dock points for that though because she said my necklace was cute and paid me $35 in cash money.. yayugggh. They took like 1/8 of my stuff. Oh and I thought I lost my phone somewhere in there and another associate was really helpful in looking around for me. I always come back, they're not as picky with buying as Buffalo is. read more

Watch out for knockoffs! Made the mistake of trusting Crossroads too much--buying first and researching when I got home. Lo and behold, the $25 fabric Coach crossbody that I thought was a steal had a YKK zipper--a sure sign that it was a knockoff. And a pretty good knockoff it was; the material for the bag was high quality except for the zipper. Still pretty disappointing though. After seeing a lot of Crossroads' Instagram/FB posts about branded stuff, I thought I definitely hit the jackpot. But nope. I guess I'll stick to small brands and the clothing from now on. read more

They FINALLY expanded the store and its HUGE. tons of mens clothes etc. This is the only crossroads i go to since its easy to get parking (usually.. *crosses fingers*) and they have a huge selection of clothes and bags. I only buy jeans, work pants and purses at crossroads and i never leave the store empty handed. I scored a pair of citizens of humanity jeans for only $40 and lucky brand jeans for less than $15 and of course the usual Gap and Banana Republic pants that are always less than $20. I keep readin that the staff doesnt look at you and are bitchy etc. who cares?? i'm not there to conversate.. only to shop!! so if you want cheap designer jeans you must shop here!! read more
