Crossroads, Crossroads. I have a weird relationship with this place. On one hand, I love being able to bring clothes here that I know I am no longer going to wear and getting either trade credit or a check (it used to be cash). On the other hand, I have brought in some very good things and feel like I am lowballed by the buyers. The selling area is in the back and there's a a new ipad system for registering to sell. Sign in and have a seat, they will call you when it's your tuen. I have taken many brand name items here and the offers are generally low. Some of the stuff I bring I can no longer fit or want and instead of being bothered with it, I bring it here. The offer for store credit is more than what's offered in a check. I have had remorse for selling certain things (Miu Miu mary janes) and I have also found really great deals for myself (brand new Nikes). I consigned a Marc Jacobs bag here and got a really good deal for it. Overall, it's a gamble when you come to sell here. It's a second hand store so they can't offer you full retail price or they'd never make any money. I've seen people heckle at the front counter when selling, it can sometimes be pretty funny because people bring in the oddest items and want $$$$ for it all. 24 hour drop offs are available if you don't want to wait, I'd recommend this if there's a long wait or if you have a lot of things to sell. Seriously do not bother coming here. Buyers have seriously questionable taste. Brought a large bag of clothes that included a couple pairs of jeans that I actually purchased at this location not too long ago and were never worn. Was told that my items were not in "style" and worn??? Some of these items literally came from your store. The majority of items in this store are EXTREMELY unfashionable. They're selling super worn looking Billabong t shirts? What is the exact criteria here? Dickies jeans purchased here and never worn just a couple months ago don't make the cut now? Very curious if any of my bag will sell if I came back and got another buyer. Buyer was a white woman blonde hair and eyeliner. I'm also positive she did not go through the entire bag. This is a much better place to sell than the Buffalo Exchange up on Telegraph. They consistently take more stuff, and for better prices. The buyers are quick, and luckily there's a sign-in list here so there's no confusion about your place in line. The selection for actual shopping is pretty small. There's never anything beyond mediocre here, so I always opt for cash instead of trade. read more

Prepandemic review- I like to drop in to Crossroads when I'm in a retail therapy mood. I've found a few pieces through the years. The act of combing through the racks at consignment shops is such a thrill to me, especially if I land a treasure. The store is fairly spacious and open. The staff here is friendly and helpful. Had a 30 minutes to kill and amazingly found parking right out front. Started browsing the clothes and they have a lot but they can be priced a tad bit high. I thrift way too much to feel comfortable to spend over $9 for a piece if clothing. I decided to focus on shoes which was a major hit as most of the prices were quite reasonable. I've been looking for cowboy boots and over the knee boots and who would have thought I found some in my size (10) and they were in great almost new condition. The prices were amazing at $24 and $28 for quality leather boots that I'd been eyeing online that were out of my budget range. I was also able to find some awesome pants on the half off rack for $7. I don't venture here often but when I do I find some amazing gems. My biggest complaint is the check out line. There is only one cashier but quite a few other employees around that don't jump in the register to help out despite there being a long line. Had those items not been one my want list for a while I contemplated just leaving because if their slowness at the register. I spent more time waiting to check out and pay than I did browsing and trying in clothes. I know this because thankfully I set a timer to keep track of my parking meter in order to avoid a ticket. read more

Pretty stellar selling experience! I came here first thing on a Saturday and was second in line to sell. I recently moved and I have a lot of never-worn clothing, some of which still have original tags. Right when they opened, a woman greeted us with a smile and let us know where to check in. Then, she saw me lugging my stuff around and let me keep it behind the counter. It eased the shopping experience! When it was my turn to sell, again I was greeted with a smile. The gentleman who was buying my clothes was so friendly! He explained everything to me and we also had a nice conversation while he went through stuff. Unfortunately, they didn't take as much as I wanted to sell. But in the end, I had a good trade day and will likely come back here again. read more

Sucks that Lici is gone, but I got to meet Margarita who was awesome! I really like when buyers explain to me why/why not they choose to buy an article of clothing and when they offer tips. Margarita was so engaged with me and I felt valued as a client. Sometimes I think buyers forget that without those of us who sell, their business would suffer. I find another one of their buyers to be super aggressive and really not very helpful when it comes to sellers because she just tags the clothing and talks to her co-workers the whole time instead of engaging with sellers. Unfortunately had a poor experience at this Crossroads today. There was a long line to sell and only one buyer who left for a long period of time, so no one was being helped. My friend and I waited an hour, and when it was finally our turn, we brought our bags up to the counter. As the buyer was going through the clothes, my friend and I were chatting nearby. After a few minutes into the discussion, the buyer interrupts and asks, "Do you have a question?" I responded no, and she proceeded to tell me that it was against policy for me to stand nearby while she looks at my clothes. She then instructed me and my friend to go sit down. Not only were we not standing close to her, we were both engaged in our conversation while she sorted our two small bags of clothes. pros: - super cute clothes! sometimes its a miss but i've gotten almost all of my favorite clothing from here - decent prices. not too expensive especially for pants and coats - the last time i sold clothes here they did give me a pretty fair price - recommend for shopping if you wanna find something unique! cons: - waited for 1.5 hours to see someone to sell clothes until they were close to closing and told us that they wouldn't actually be able to see us. communication could have been better - staff is definitely not rude ? but they could have been more friendly. - the pieces they choose r so weird?? they didn't take some really trendy and cute things last time but their inventory also has some really out of style pieces so idk maybe they should lower their standards read more

Tell me, oh tell me what is wrong with this picture? I bought a brown wrap dress for a friend exactly TWO WEEKS AGO from this very same establishment, only to have this 18 year old as put by Kat F. "snobby and constantly sighing" young woman REJECT it - even after I pointed this fact out! (Friend gone traveling in Europe and too hard to pin down, so decided to sell it back). I ask her why it was good enough for two weeks ago but now unworthy. She sighs and says barely legibly "wrap dresses just don't sell." Oh, but they did two weeks ago, because a. You bought one, b. I bought one from you, and c. Diane Von Furstenburg out to be alerted immediately! She went on to reject fairly brand new pants and shoes from Macy's (a brown pair of pants that are cut like 1940s sailor pants and the shoes are from Nordstrom Rack, all 1940s retro looking, very simple, neutral colored and expensive). The pants are too small for me and I just have too many shoes. I know for sure I will make a killing on Ebay. I was just being lazy. The day I brought my things, I got there before the store opened. All us sellers were sitting around (it was a Saturday and fairly warm at 10:50 a.m. or so). We began to talk about the arrogance of the people that work there, that was fairly unnecessary, leading me to feel safe this was all not in my head, but common public opinion. I sincerely hope all these Yelp reviews change something but hey, if they are still making money, maybe they could care less how they treat their customers....? read more

I don't understand this place. The buyers pick clothes like they're picking teams for a high school PE class. Picking up each item slowly and thinking: loser, loser, okay, loser, loser, decent... okay I'll take you. I've gone here 3 times and they've always bought some of my items, but the items they've picked were so random. They rejected higher end items but bought cheap clothes I bought for $1-4 in Vietnam, street vendors in Manhattan's Chinatown, and clearance items from Target. The clothes I find in the store are typically out-of-fashion or out-of-season so I don't know why they're so picky. I have a hard time finding clothes here since most jackets and tops look overly used and ratty. Who the heck was THAT buyer? I only gave this place 2 stars because they buy my cheap clothes and I found a brand new pair of expensive sneakers for $5. Otherwise, I'd rather go to other trading stores. read more

If you come with low expectations, you should be reasonably satisfied with your selling experience. I came with one large bag of clothes and one medium sized bag, sold about half, and got around $43 in cash. It's not a lot of money, but it's more useful to me than a pile of clothing that's been taking up space in my room for the last two years. How it works: Bring in your stuff, sign in on a clipboard, wait for your name to be called. Once it's called, a buyer will go through your things and sort them into the things they want and the things they don't want. The buyers aren't super-friendly, but they're hardly rude -- just straightforward. They then price and tag your items, let you know how much you can get in cash or in store credit, and instruct you to go to the registers for your cash or credit. From a potential-seller's perspective: I came in with low expectations and was still disappointed. I had 4 bags of clothes, shoes and bags, and they did not take one item. Admittedly, a few of the things were things I knew they wouldn't take due to wear and tear (read: dirty, stained shoes), but I had a lot of decent stuff (read: practically new Levi's) in there. The girl at the counter was downright rude, giving a quick once-over and saying "I'm going to pass on all of this...stuff" (I cannot possibly convey her condescending, snooty-as-hell tone through this review, so you'll just have to use your imagination.) I'm sorry, but if you're going to be re-selling at a ridiculous mark-up, you can at least be NICE when you pass on someone's perfectly good clothes. I mean, it is a USED clothing store, right? I mean, COME ON. I feel *almost* bad for the mean girl, since she probably has a quota and I'm sure she gets judged if she buys crap for the store. It's her job. I get it. But come on, you could be nice when you tell me my jeans aren't trendy enough to be sold at your consignment store. Another woman who was trying to sell her clothes without any luck said to me "You know, one time I bought something here, took it home and realized I wouldn't wear it, and tried to sell it back a week later. I have a funny anecdote to tell. Today, while I was waiting to sell my "most" priced possessions to this location somehow my bag magically disappeared. I had been sitting in their waiting area next to my bag when one of the employees (in her own world singing Bon Jovis's amazing 1980's hit single Livin' On a Prayer playing on the background) took a few Ikea bags from the counter and the only bag next to me, also an Ikea bag and placed them next to the purchasing counter all while not even noticing my existence. I didn't think much of it because I was almost next in line to sell my items and assumed she knew she was moving my bag. As I was called a few minutes later and gave them my information I started looking for my bag (hint, it wasn't there), when I asked the girl who moved it she said she didn't and that I shouldn't leave my stuff unattended. She had been on the side of the counter next to where I was sitting about 5 feet away. Long story short, I had waited almost an hour to sell my things and felt that my time was as important as theirs so I asked the girls to look at the camera to see what had happened to my things. This is where it gets even more magical, the employee told me that THE CAMERAS DON'T WORK! So, if you are in the area carrying your backpack with all of your precious things inside and you think to yourself, "I could use a new used Bag," maybe this place is for you since there have no working cameras and anyone can just come in and take your stuff. Update: The store reached out to me to apologize and pay my ticket. I greatly appreciate their willingness to make it right. Obviously there are capable managers in place that care about the experience their customers are having. Original review: I am super pissed. I've been selling with Crossroads for years now and they always buy a fair amount of things from me. I came into the Shattuck Crossroads today with a medium sized bag of clothes and shoes and when I got there I was the only name on the list. Literally no one else waiting. I signed in and the one buyer working told me that I could look around and she indicated that it wouldn't be that long. I'd intended to go back out and feed my meter if I came inside and it looked like there would be a significant wait, but because I was the only person in line I decided the 40 minutes I put on my meter was probably enough. Fast forward 40 minutes she finally gets to me after I she spent 40 minutes going through what I can only guess were bags of dropped off clothes? A massive group formed behind me of other people waiting who were also confused, because it had been almost an hour and I was the first name on the list. Also to top it all off when she finally gets to my stuff and I run out front to feed my meter I discover that I got a ticket in the literal 1 minute after my meter expired. $43.00 Berkeley parking ticket, guess how much I made in cash from selling ($43.00 ) It also took her less than 10 minutes to go through my stuff and I'm pretty sure she didn't go through my shoes. So needless to say, I will never come to this Crossroads ever again. The entire experience was trash. Please save yourself the trouble, learn from my mistake and always go to the Oakland store on College Avenue. That location no longer accepts drop offs for good reason, the parking is free and there's always at least 2 sellers working. read more

Bone Thugs N' Harmony definitely got it right... *singing* "See you at the crossroads (crossroads crossroads) so you won't be lonely, everyday everyday everyday everyday" I love this establishment. Before yesterday, I only had been there to shop. I really enjoy the variety and quality selection of clothes they have. Plus not to mention it's heavily discounted, even designer brands. The staff has always been helpful and nice. I finally had spent a weekend filtering through my closet and separating into three distinct piles. 1) Maybe worth some $$ 2) Probably only worth donating 3) WTF was I thinking when I bought this?! The stuff from pile 1 was boxed up and took straight to Crossroads. Parking was a breeze getting there 5 minutes to 6pm, I didn't have to pay for the meter, and pulled in right in front of the shop. Within minutes a friendly staff member was going through my clothes and adding up the total amount I was going to receive. She told me I can choose to get 50% of my total worth back in store credit, or 30% back in cash. Seeing how my closet was bulging with clothes when I was filtering, I opted for the cash back (Although looking around the store it was TOTALLY TEMPTING to get store credit!! What a great excuse to come home with new stuff!). I left there a happy camper and glad that I can help support a great cause. It doesn't hurt to take your stuff there and try!! They do buy per season, so make note that they will be looking for items for the upcoming season. Fortunately they were buying for spring, and I had a lot of applicable items. Soooo..... Selling clothes: It sort of hurt my esteem when they took 5% of my items, but I got $17 cash, so I guess that's ok. Brace yourself and you'll be ok. Buying clothes: I saw a DVF shirt awhile ago that I liked. But today I was going to "trade" but nothing worked out... Nothing impressed me... Clothing inventory: Good stuff, sort of. I saw items that were uglier than my rejected items. Be careful of rips and holes too. Dressing rooms: Small and crappy but functional. NO BATHROOM Staff: Nice. To be honest the local Goodwill or Flea Market will have better choices/variety. I came here the other day...Did a good look around. Just know if you aren't under a size 10 that you won't find much here. They definitely cater to a small clientele. Even a size 12...Forget it. Your better off looking on Etsy's vintage section. However they did have some cute purses and shoes as well...Again all shoe sizes are pretty much 8 and under. I did find a bag I liked and went to purchase it. I waited in line for over 10 minutes while they were accepting clothes from someone who was trying to trade etc...There was another girl at the counter there not doing much of anything. I had inquired about another register being open and she just gave her snobbish gesture that I needed to wait for that one. Forget my lunch hour right? They definitely don't put customer service as their top priority. I'm fine with waiting but waiting over 10 minutes while they help ONE customer when they have other staff standing around is...stupid. I put the bag back and left. I noted the brand and found the same exact bag on Etsy for $12 less. In short...I wont' be back. I'll continue Etsying and finding deals at the local Flea Markets where the people are nicer and I can find something that doesn't require me to rub olive oil around my waist to make it fit first :) Also, Crossroads was WAY too pricey for used clothing. I know that people give this cross roads mediocre reviews, but i have to say, you definitely need to know what they are looking for before you sell, and you wont be disspointed. Last week i went to Buffalo exchange, and sold a little more than half my clothes, the other half they did not accept, and i understand, the stuff left over was more trendy than fashionable. I figured i would try out Cross Roads on Shattuck after that. To my surprise, they bought out everything else i had (except for 2 t-shirts) and i made more money on that stuff then i did at buffalo. (buffalo exchange only gives you 30% and crossroads gives you 35%) If you go there and there are people ahead of you, expect to wait a little while, as with any place. I would recommend this place for either a first stop of second stop on a clothes selling day, you might be surprised at what you find. also be smart, look at the buyer, if she looks a certain way, even though it should be objective, she will probably buy stuff that suits her fashion more. just know your audience. As far as trendiness goes, Crossroads is definitely on-par. There's always something I've found cute here or have eyed wistfully across the room. The only downside? Since Crossroads is a consignment store, the prices itself aren't very cheap. In fact, for some items, I'd say you're better off at F21! Bottom line: Crossroads has a FEW cheap gems lying about, but the majority of the store is on the pricier side. For an actual thrifting experience, you're gonna have to get out of Berkeley. I've bought and sold at Crossroads in Santa Monica, Santa Cruz, San Jose, and Berkeley (I'm probably missing one or two..), so I feel I'm pretty qualified to write this review! I like their selection, but I think you are better off selling to Buffalo. Buffalo pays you more AND takes stuff that Crossroads won't. I KNOW that they have bought my never-worn, high quality dresses for pennies, and I should have thought twice about selling to them, but sometimes cash is king and you are broke so your rational side goes out the window. I should have gone to Buffalo to sell those; I know that now. I also have to second the review on here that (Daniel) said he was followed around like a criminal; although my experience was not racially- charged, I often feel like they are waiting for me to steal something, when in fact I am just browsing and wouldn't dare steal anything. I sold about 5 or 6 quality items out of 3 huge bags and made around $50 in cash. The store employees were super healthy and I had a good conversation with my buyer named Ricky. I feel like this place is such a rip off , seriously. Like when I first went in here I thought I was getting a deal but it was pretty much overpriced named brand clothing. They did have a large selection but most of the clothes weren't in that good condition & a lot of the items were way too much money. This store location is on the smaller side but they have managed to stuff a lot of things in there. The people that work here also need an attitude check because some seemed annoying to be working there. Parking around or near this place you can forget about it. Super packed an you have to pay to park up close. Street parking is sometimes metered or 30 minute limit. Wouldn't return to this store again .... This store also has a nasty smell and isn't clean. read more

Some of their pricing can be inconsistent--I see some older Forever 21 tops priced the same as other items from nicer stores. There's some good value finds if you're willing to dedicate a good amount of time digging around, but it also involves a bit of luck because their selection varies. For selling, they can be really picky with what they choose to buy from you based on what's in season, which would be much more understandable if most of the store was also filled with what's in season (which it's not). Check their seasonal selling guide online before you go with a pile of clothes, or else you'll probably be going back home with pretty much the same pile. Okay, so I understand that maybe they take higher end clothing, but can't they at least humor me a little bit and TAKE THEIR TIME with looking through my clothes? ..and please, take the stick out and smile once in awhile! My cousins and I went together and we were trying to lighten up the mood a bit while they were looking through our stuff and it was like trying to make a person with newly injected Botox to show emotion! This wasn't just with one person either.. but it was among three associates! It kind of made me depressed being in that store.. on top of them not buying any of my stuff. Still, I'll have to give them a star for having good quality clothing. Had I not gone to Buffalo first, maybe my clothes would have made it into their inventory. Then again, I still might've made more with Buffalo's 50/50 exchange thingy. Also, at Buffalo, they folded the unsold clothes and put them nicely into my bag... My sister and our cousin took a trip to Berkeley a couple of weeks ago. It was my plan to go to another thrift store to do all my shopping. We stopped at Crossroads to look. I walked out with so many things. Cute peep toe boots, an ivory lace dress, a cute teal shirt, some gladiator slippers and I can't even remember what else! Anyway, all of these items for $60! I could have stayed and gone through more racks and the SHOE dept is awesome too! But, I had to refrain since it was our very first stop. This has to be my favorite Crossroads compared to ones in San Jose, and the one in SF on Haight. Besides my experience the store is organized, clean, and I was able to try on clothes without hassle. The customer service was pretty friendly and I had a pleasant shopping experience. :) read more

I didn't know if I would be able to visit this store location, but am glad I did. It is much much much larger than the ones in Orange County and the clothing style is also definitely funkier. I brought in two items and they gave me more than any other Crossroads location ever gave me for these two items, I really felt I was receiving the right value for these two items. More so than the Orange County locations. The individuals who were behind the counter, were also really friendly and nice, they weren't snotty about the kind of items they were looking for, like some of the other locations where i've received some not so friendly service as well as attitude, when trying to sell stuff back. In fact, the sales people didn't even iterate the type of stuff they were looking to buy, they only asked if I had sold with them before. It was great! This store location is huge, the buying section is separate from the cashier and checking out area, it's located in the rear part of the store which is nice, if you have a lot of items to sell back. I would definitely return to this location again, I would also like to have the opportunity shop the inventory. Parking can be a bit of a pain, there aren't a lot of spaces available, they seem to fill up quick, especially at night! read more

I'm giving this Crossroads Trading 2 stars mostly because it's a cool concept....being able to trade your old stuff for $ or store credit is good for college students or others on a budget. However, the selection and staff at this location are so inconsistent. In Berkeley, you're better off donating your clothes to Out of the Closet and going to Ross to rifle through their junk for the hidden good stuff. Perhaps I'm just a little spoiled from too many years of bargain shopping in Manhattan and LA, where the thrift shops are stellar. If you still want to trade in your clothes, you could do better by taking a BART ride into the city or heading over to their better store on College Ave in Oakland. read more

Honestly, I just don't think people know how to sell here. I mean, you've got to have low expectations and stuff they are looking for. It is used clothing after all. Any time I go in, I expect to sell maybe 3/5 of my stuff and I usually get that or more so I'm always a happy seller. And I've never had the employees treat my clothing like crap. Furthermore, I've always been able to find a cute dress when I need it and usually for less than $15. The clothes dont' smell or look old and there are even some new clothes that they probably buy from brands that sell off surplus at discounted prices or something. Yay! I love how I am able to drop off clothes at this location! Amazing since parking can be a bit difficult. Overall, I think the selection is good but peeps really need to dig through. To be quite frank, compared to other discount stores (e.g. TJ Maxx, Ross, etc.) or stores with fab sales, (e.g. Macy's, Banana Republic, etc.), I'm no sure if you're saving much by stopping at Crossroads. I came in here to find Saltwater Sandals, which are totally my kryptonite and jump on any chance to buy a pair. I scoured the aisles up and down and didn't find a pair. However, I did squeal when I saw a vintage Dooney and Burke purse my second deadly sin. Which led to immediate disappointment when I saw the 50 dollar price tag. Aren't places like this supposed to be cheap? (this price was much higher then anything I had seen online for similar bags) Moral of the story; don't come in here with a mission. If you are considering selling clothes here, I'd encourage you to not waste your time. Consider ThredUP instead. I brought in a large bag of clothes to sell to them. Many of the items were still new with tags. The staff member said he couldn't take any of it. Citing they weren't in style. Instead of throwing them away, I went online and asked for a free postage paid bag to send to ThreadUp. They're a little behind due to the pandemic but they sent me an email saying they took over 80% of the clothing in the bag - above the average of 60%. They even showed me my clothing listing on their website and how much they're selling it for. One was advertised as a "rare find" because it was from a luxury brand. So much for out-of-style! Save your time and money and sell your clothes to an online thrift store instead of coming here. read more

Based on selling at the Shattuck location only. Didn't see anything in the store I wanted to actually buy. And this is another experience where they didn't buy back something I bought at their store. Opening scene, buyer tells me they only buy in season brand names, in excellent condition and that they're buying for summer and fall. She first passes on 6 pairs of cute brand name heels, some worn once or twice, brand names like 9 West. I am accused of being rockabilly, so they were all pretty much new summery/girly wedges and heels. I have 900 pairs of them, so they were the least comfortable in my wardrobe and being sold. She takes the pair from Sheik. Yes, Sheik, the cheap ass shoe store in the Bayfair mall. She then picks through my clothes. Passes on labels like Gap, Michael Kors, Dickies, maybe 5 vintage dresses, Levis and tons of other cute stuff that is either too big or too small for me as my my body seems to fluctuate and I have way too many clothes. All of it inspected, cleaned and delinted because I know the shit needed to be. She chose a nondescript unlabeled brown cardigan. Talk about anticlimactic. So I take my 13 dollar credit and look around. Not a damn thing catches my eye. Tons of stuff looks homemade and others look stretched and dirty. Really? I like recycled clothing. Even better, I like recycled clothing that doesn't smell like butt and require me to sift through racks upon racks of appliqued sweatshirts boasting sequined cat faces. That said, I like places like Crossroads more than my local Goodwill. Sure, you have to be willing to commit a certain amount of time to shopping at a place like this. You have to be willing to find something you love on the hanger, only to discover it doesn't actually fit you when you try it on. And of course there's no "other size." That's it. It's one-shot shopping. You have to be willing to check your sense of entitlement at the door-- especially when you're selling. No, they're not going to take all your crap. Deal with it. If it's so awesome, why don't YOU keep it? Yeah. I thought so. I didn't notice any snobby attitude among the staff when I visited. Maybe that's because I don't expect to be catered to hand and foot. Especially not in a recycled clothing store! I'm a grown girl. I can handle myself. I guess places like this DO have a certain "niche appeal." Fine by me! I found a sweet vintage-looking dress and shoes for about $30 total. Totally worth it. read more
