I travel to this location a few times a year. The hours are reasonable. Today I went in and I was greeted by staff who were friendly and helpful. Parking is easy and free in the lot behind the store. Selection here is good. It's not a large store but they cover a lot of merchandise/offerings. I always find plenty of sizes and price points. Fitting rooms are clean and they have a nice offering of home decor items. It's a great place to shop! read more

I recently came in to do an online return during the holidays and wow, what a cute spot. I had no idea they were next to Lululemon. The girl with curly hair was helping me at the register and she was so nice. She even helped me wrap up my gift for my friend. I like places that feels like home, and when I walked in, it had a really nice and warm atmosphere. I can't afford the clothes here but their other items are so cute. My son bought a pajama pants for his mom, and even though it's their own brand and I have a record of payment on Apple that identifies the store and date of purchase, the sales people could not authorize an exchange- not a refund, but an exchange. Seems like they cater to a clientele that could afford to eat the loss, and not a kid who works at a bowling alley and wanted to buy something nice for his mom. read more

I love Anthro! This is hands-down the best store to get home goods, wedding, and birthday presents for your girly pops. I buy all of my quirky kitchen items/home decor here. They carry unique tableware, candles, planters, and other decorative home accents. I get a new tea towel every single time I shop here. They always keep different styles of Voluspa and Capri Blue Volcano candles stocked, which are pretty much universally adored. Their jewelry and self-care section is always stocked with really chic goodies as well. This store makes up one arm of the holy trinity located on the same block: Lululemon, Paper Source, and Anthro. A combination of items from these three stores makes for the best gift, card, and wrapping combo imaginable. It's easy to go a little bit overboard here because of the cost. Luckily for me, this location doesn't carry everything that they have online, but it's still a good starting place to go and see if any items speak to you. I feel as if the reviews for this location are so low because the clothing is way too expensive. This is generally true for all Anthro clothing. I have only ever bought a few clothing items here, because I like to shop at a different store for all my boho chic stuff. Occasionally you can catch a good sale online, but the sale items in store are usually not good and still too expensive with the discount. We purchased a dining table at Anthropologie. Delivery was scheduled for today between 12:30 and 2:30pm. They did not show up during this scheduled time frame and we still don't have our table. They wasted our time and their delivery company (Ryder Last Mile) does not have customer service during the scheduled delivery time. Unreliable and unacceptable. I literally walked around the store, through the sale rack, repeated and repeated and FINALLY found a few things worth bringing into the dressing room. The way Anthros are merchandised drives me batty. There should be an example of what is folded beneath and if there are a bunch of items hung together on a rack, how can I SEE what's going on without pushing my way through the racks? I guess I'm thankful Anthro makes it more difficult for me to shell out the dough. The sale section in this location is small, but air conditioned well. The staff are nice and helpful. Parking is hell. Most of the merchandise is not my cup of tea, still boxy, lots of wide legged styles, muted colors, but there are a few gems-look out for the outerwear and the sweaters. I'd give this store 5 stars just for the awesomeness of their staff if I could. My only hesitation is a lack of selection because it's a smaller stand alone store. (Not like the larger ones in malls) But still found great items I HAD TO HAVE and ended up spending a month's worth of rent here today. Scores, though. Scores! Sale section is crowded. Pretty small and you can barely have 3 people in the space. But I still managed to find 4 really great pieces that were almost half off so totally worth the struggle. EXCELLENT service. Stephanie in the dressing room was cheerful and very helpful in exchanging sizes for me, etc. She made me smile on a very sad day for me. Thanks to her for that! I didn't catch the name of my cashier, but she was patient with my insistence on trying to get cash for parking and try random credit cards JUST to figure out which ones were which (she seriously was awesome during this process:) Great location. Parking across the street in the lot is $1.50/30 minutes. Not great, but there was ample easy parking. Worth it! read more

This is my favorite Anthropologie location in Berkeley. I have felt like I was in a wonderland of design. Some of my favorite purchases include a vintage style dress that is periwinkle blue and white eyelet. It is probably the most expensive dress I own. It is machine washable, does not wrinkle, and is 100% cotton with polyester embroidery. I have worn it so many times. My most favorite memory was wearing this to the Hardly Strictly Blue Grass fest in Golden Gate park with on of my besties who is the aficionado of vintage and she loves that dress. My other favorite purchase from Anthropologie in Berkeley, is a record player that has a floral pattern in shades of pink and magenta that is reminiscent of grandma's curtains. It was on sale. I loved it so much that when I moved, I customized it by adding my moniker and my sisters on it's logo and we brought in my 40th birthday having cake, littering my apartment with confetti, and listening to Fleetwood Mac, Local Natives, Alabama Shakes, Mad Drums, Bob Dylan to name a few. I sent her home with that legendary record player and all the records for her and her man. read more

Who doesn't love walking into a place that reminds you of how you want your future home to look and smell like? From scented coconut wax candles to a smoked oak dining table, it is clear that this is not your typical store. Sometimes shopping here is a hit or miss, but when it's a hit, you feel like you've struck gold. I came on Columbus Day weekend and was not aware of the additional 40% off sale items. My oh my! What a pleasant surprise. I perused through the racks of clothing in the sale section and found at least 10 items I wanted to try on. I ended up settling on 3 items plus a pair of cat eye sunglasses. Yes, it's approaching Fall, but in Cali, it feels like summer 360 days of the year, so I was sure I would put my items into good use. I bought a Bohemian style romper, a pair of white skinny pants with a pattern reminiscent of chromosomes undergoing the cell cycle (very work appropriate as I work in a clinical lab) and this adorable cotton tee with a very detailed stitching pattern. Total damage was $133 for 4 items! I bought one dress from this place in May costing more than that. But, once in awhile, it's nice to-- as Aziz Ansari so rightly says it-- TREAT YO SELF. read more

The clothes are always so cute and unique with a shabby chic but also modern hippy style. LOVE LOVE LOVE what they have to offer, if only it wasn't so expensive! I love love love Anthro but this location is a cluster! The parking is awful. The back clearance room is super dark and galley style so that you can't shop without elbowing someone. The folks at the register do look like they are trying their best, but I literally waited in line for 10 minutes while customers with complicated issues were all somehow all at the register at the same time. My online return took way longer than it should have. I felt bad for the girl at the register, as she was clearly new and in need of help understanding the register, however the managers were not interested in walking her through completing the transaction even though they were watching her struggling a bit. If you want to keep the customers happy and the line moving, sink or swim really doesn't work in retail. read more

They once let me exchange a dress without a receipt because I "unwrapped" it and couldn't figure out how to put it back together. (Don't even get me started on their stupid "crosswrap dress.") Of course, I screwed up the new one after wearing it once, but fool me once... should've asked for store credit. Great service and cute adorable (but expensive) clothes that will make me feel girly. I kept being drawn to the candles, stationery, housewares but realized that I have too much of that stuff at home ... and not enough pretty clothes that fit. I had to stay focused. Luckily I had Juicy with me to hand me stuff that she decided would look good on me -- in an assortment of colors and fabrics (not just the greys she so lovingly gravitates towards.) Too bad all the sale stuff was shoved into a closet the size of a handicap bathroom stall. I've spent the last 3 weeks in China so it didn't seem weird to me to shove people out of the way ... which just makes me an asshole here in the USA. Overall, this place is super overpriced and not really my style, however, occasionally there are good finds for reasonable prices which makes coming back from time to time worth it! Good finds can range from a cute shirt or a nice cup or jewelry display. I like the variety of the store. Always random stuff to be found, just not exactly the most affordable or appealing at times. As for this location, no complaints or standouts! A few months ago, I got a nice shirt with interesting bows in the back I do like for only around $12! I've only gone to this store for exchages of well-meaning birthday gifts and for finding very specific wishlist items for others. This is not a store I would enter without a clear goal. First, it is expensive, and even discounted it is out of my price range. Second, the people who work there, while perfectly pleasant, are so "relaxed" that I've wondered if their break room includes a sauna and massages. Third, the people who stand in line annoy me (directly related to first point and increased by second point). I am huge Anthropologie fan-which is sad because I rarely, if ever can buy anything at full price when I venture in. As far as Anthros go, this one is organized and has the same as everywhere else. What I rate my Anthropologie experience on is the Sales section. This was one was disappointing. The "sale" section was like a tiny walk-in closet way in the back of the store. It was dark and hard to see the clothing in there and you couldn't really fit more than 3 people in there at a time. I'm sure there were great things in there, I just didn't have adequate light to see them! It as okay-not my favorite Anthro location, but it will do in a bind. read more

My mother and I had a HORRIBLE, RACIST encounter with a new employee named Mira during check out. She didn't go through proper protocol to ask us if we were members- which we are, would not wrap our dishes because she said they shouldn't break, refused to help my mother get clarity on the benefits of perks (so another cashier helped) didn't know the policies when we asked about perks during your birthday and then told us it didn't apply to us (which was not true as the other cashier confirmed). It was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. Management is great and she mentioned this new employee Mira was also late to work, so probably not great at her job, but I hope that action is taken as there are clearly racial issues at play as we watched other customers being engaged completely differently. Given that we spend a lot of money at Anthro- over 700 dollars this week, it's so disappointing to have to experience this kind of inequity while trying to shop at what was one of our favorite stores. read more

Not as bit as some of the super mega stores but it isn't as overwhelming. There isn't a plant section or bridal etc, just the basic stuff you expect from Anthro. This review is about a specific person. I have spent thousands of dollars at this Anthropologie location. Today was one of the worst customer service experiences ever with a so-called manager. The sales associates were really nice as usual. (The manager with the barbell in her nose) Learn to treat others the way you want to be treated. Or maybe the way you treated me is the way you like to be treated. I have seen her being rude to other customers too in previous visits,specifically those doing returns. Avoid dealing with her. Love love love me a good Anthropologie store. This place is the closest store to me and hence I frequent it often. They have a great selection of both clothing, jewelry and home goods. My favorite section however is their extensive sale section where I stock up on all the goods for my home. They occasionally have great sales and you can also find their sale deals online. I will say shopping online and bring in store are very different. There is usually a larger selection of sizes in store than online. I found things for sale at this store than I have shopping online. The staff is wonderful as well. They are super knowledgeable, will offer an opinion on an outfit if needed and take care of you as a customer. As long as I am living in the east bay, this store will be my go to! read more

I'm not sure if this is a new policy, but even the pack slip from my order states I can return my order at any Anthropologie store. Anthropologie sometimes has really good sales- like today when I went there was 25% all full priced mugs, shirts and pants. I really like the blend of clothing, jewelry, kitchen goods and miscellaneous things around the store. I picked up matching mugs with my housemates today. This is the closest location to me, so I've shopped here a lot over the years and service is hit or miss. This is a smaller location so they don't have everything, but I've stumbled across some good finds over the past. Recently I placed an order for online pickup and after 24 hours I still didn't get a notification that my order was ready. I was getting a little irritated because the piece I wanted seemed to be selling fast and if they didn't have it I just wanted to go ahead and order online. Called the store and they apologized for the delay and said unfortunately they didn't have the item, but if I came in they would place it online and give me an extra 10%, but I needed to hurry because they were almost sold out. So I stopped what I was doing and dashed over. They were nice and apologized again for not processing the order sooner and completed the transaction. I decided to browse since I was there and spotted the item they there said was out of stock. Hmm. There seemed to be quite a few on the rack so I decided to look, just to see, and they actually had three (THREE) in the size they told me they were out of. So basically they didn't even check. The extra 10% they gave me was nice, but not worth me dropping what I was doing to drive over and have them process my order. Honestly I would've preferred they fulfilled my original online pickup and that way I could have gone in to pick it up when I had time the following week. This was pre-holiday rush btw. read more

Why does everybody say they have a "love/hate" relationship with this place? What things in life aren't love/hate? I love/hate ice cream. I love/hate yelp. I love/hate my mother. Get over it. if you don't want $50 t-shirts, don't shop here. You have tons of options: H and M, Forever 21 and the Gap are always great options for shirts under $10. Or, of course there is Anthro's retarded cousin Urban Outfitters if you want to kinda, sorta, maybe look like you got it an Anthropologie (on sale). How can you even begin to dis a company that creates original and oddly appropriate names for each and every clothing item they sell? It's J. Peterman (Seinfeld) x 1.5. Ok, what would you call a durable, thick fibered dress resembling a potato sack? Anthro terms it the "walk about" dress. Ok, what would you call a cute cotton blue tee with interesting pleating on the front under the bodice? That's Anthro's "Ducks-in-a-Row" t-shirt (and, yes, it's $48). Other titles of clothing include "Miss-Mary-Mack" tank top, "secret path" hipster panties, "swing set" jacket and the "lemonade shade" skirt. Anthro offers some great options for this generations casual professional look, and their sales racks inspire great, reasonably priced ensembles. I see half of our gender walking around with ridiculously ugly Dooney and Bourke (which, fyi, don't ever match anything anyone wears), so stop complaining about the price of a blouse that nobody is forcing you to buy. I haven't found a shirt or pair of pants from anthro that didn't fit me just about perfectly. I'm even confident enough in the sizing to buy from them online, which has been hassle-free and all. I 'm cutting a star on this one for a few reasons. Numero uno, because I don't care for all the "lifestyle" stuff that crowds space that should be dedicated to clothing. I don't want an anthropologie couch or chandelier or perfume sprayer. This store in particular is small....too small. They have to hide t-shirts under and inside the wood display cases. If you get down on your knees, pull aside some of the overlying shirts/pants, bark like a dog and look inside every cubby, you'll find all kinds of stuff you wouldn't have been able to otherwise. But only if you bark like a dog. Although they are not really bad at this store, I do find it irritating when the staff are overly involved in my dressing, fitting, social life, etc. I generally like to be left alone, notwithstanding the very rare need of a different size or color. Maybe I'm the nutty one, but I think people should be allowed to shop and try clothes on at their leisure. Sales people, take a nap on the Anthro throw pillows over there by the window and leave me be! 4th St. is kind of fun... mostly if you're looking for shoes, make-up or stained glass. This location would be way more fun if they'd add more diverse shopping. Also, it's kind of a buzz kill when the hordes of for hire workers hanging at the train tracks threaten to swarm your car off the frontage road exit. I gun it through those f*&$#$ers. read more

While I was between jobs, I decided to try to find something in retail while I got back on my feet. So I walk into the store, ask if they were hiring for the holiday season (2004), a young, blonde, smiley women told me "yes" gave me an application, and informed me about a "group interview" that they will be conducting that Sunday. I get to the interview: Mistake 1#: I wore a suit. It was a more casual, less stiff and stuff one, but it was a suit nevertheless. The other candidates (all still in high school) were in jeans and t-shirts. Mistake #2: I didn't chew gum during the interview. Mistake #3: I was a 25 year old who only worked in the corporate world without any retail experience trying to get a retail job. Mistake #4: Giving them your TRUE salary history. I couldn't get clear to them that just because I made $27/hour at my last job, doesn't mean that's what I was looking for at that job. Needless to say, I felt extremely awkward and out of place in that interview. The clothes themselves are very cute, but way overpriced and the quality is lacking. I can find better in consignment and thrift stores. read more

What the hell gives them the right to charge $80 for a white shirt that won't even hide THO (titty hard on) if the temperature drops 5 degrees? I swear....every skirt my grandmother used to wear in Mexico back in the 1930's was replicated and dyed eight different colors then hung on the rack next to the ceramic sushi plates and sold with green and purple flower print tanks. Then there's those bermuda pants in every imaginable color and pattern and add lace and ugly ass buttons and TA-DA!!! Expensive hippie cotton clothing that you can wash and wear!! Don't worry about ironing them...they come wrinkled and ready-to-wear!! They do occasionally have cute dresses. Too bad they cost half of my mothly rent. read more

I have a love hate relationship with Anthro. I love their catalog. I hate their prices. I love the calculated, contriived whimsy of their stores. I hate the stuckup yuppie sales people. I go in here everytiime I'm at 4tth streets with the hopes that the Rick Santorum suppoorting CEO would have come to his senses and reduced prices by 40-70% so that they'd be, ummm, reasonable. But alas, it never happens. I did luck out a couple weeks ago and get a Velvet by Graham & Spencer dress for $29.99 (originally $129). Of course now I want a million dresses cause that one is so comfy, but the $100+ price tag just won't work for me (sorry I'm cheap...and have an expensive college degree that I'll be paying for forever). But it definitely pays to check out the sale section just in case, you know. In the mean time - I love my dress. read more

Why was I in this store? Remember my buddy's girlfriend who chose poorly when we had the chance to enjoy happy hour at the St. Regis? Well, we were hanging out and she wanted to go in. So in we went. I fumbled around like a bull in a china shop until I found myself in front of a display case in the rear of the store. I was puzzled and confused. Let me paint the picture. I'm staring at jewelry dangling from a board behind the glass. Attached to each piece of jewelry is a key on a string. There is a price tag on the key. Well I don't get it. What is it about the key and the different pieces of jewelry that make them so expensive? The prices were as high at $518. With no hope of leaving the store anytime soon, I asked one of the workers to explain what was so special about the jewelry to merit half a grand. She smiled and started laughing almost uncontrollably. Since timing is everything, this is the moment that my buddy walked up behind me to hear Sandy, the salesperson, reply that they attach the keys as price tags and that they had no association with the value of the jewelry. My buddy chimes in, "Way to go Einstein you overthought it." Sandy was nice enough to save me from embarrassment when she said, " I'm a med student and someone had to explain it to me too." I didn't buy anything here but based solely on the staff's ability to keep me from feeling like an idiot savante, if I were a girl, I'd shop here. If I ever need a key to use as a doorjam this is where I'll go. read more

I really enjoy shopping at Anthropologie. But...I would only give the clothing 3 stars. Some things are beautiful, especially some of the dresses, others are just fussy or silly or downright uncomfortable (many a perfectly good top has been ruined by an unnecessary sash. Why so many sashes?). And some tops just don't fit right if you're bigger than a B cup. I've also had issues with the quality of what you're getting for the price. A couple of Anthro tops I own have fallen apart. Sorry, I'm a busy gal and I don't have time to handwash everything! But even though the clothes are a bit expensive, their sale racks are always full and I've had some luck there, even though the racks in this store are in a small, dimly lit room that's hard to browse in. However, their selection of soaps, books, stationery, candles, mugs --- that stuff gets 5 stars. Even though I wouldn't want to live in a place that was totally Anthropologie'd- out, this stuff really appeals to my girly side. I'm reviewing the Berkeley store because it's my favorite Anthro location, with Corte Madera a close second (I hate the SF Market St. store --- it's like shopping in a basement). The Palo Alto store is also worth a stop if you're down there --- it's kind of out of the way, but it's never crowded. read more
