I have never sold any clothes here, but I did recently purchase a pretty shirt from upscale designer, SEA. They do have limited inventory and it's pretty bare bones, but i don't necessarily mind it since I did find something to walk away with. The shirts from this brand usually retail from $250-$350 (WTF!!!) and it's in great condition at $100, so I'm good with that. Nice shirts from the GAP are $50 these days. All sales are final. Again, pretty bare bones, but I did find a few things I liked and walked away with one. I'd come again if in the neighborhood and some spare time to browse. read more

Maribel has the most amazing selection of shoes, always. This is my go-to shop when I'm visiting family in the Bay Area. This place has been around forever and every time I visit, it feels new and fresh. The owner definitely knows what she's doing when it comes to style. This place is nicer than a Buffalo, or Crossroads, it's definitely a step up and the quality of the clothes reflects that. Prices and selection are really good. And I happened to hit it one time during a $10 rack sale - crazy good deals on this rack. There are also new items by local makers. And the owner supports a lot of local programs, does food drives, school supply drives, totally engaged in the community. Maribel is great excuse to shop local. read more

Very poor service. I was completely ignored the entire time I was in the store except when I was told to leave. Immediately after the cashier checked out a customer she spoke to me for the first time. Only to tell me the store was closed and I had to leave. I had been in the store for about 10 minutes at that point. She gave me no warning about the closing time. They close at 5:00 and it was literally 5:00pm on the dot when she told me I had to leave. The cashiers tone was incredibly harsh and showed no care or concern. I'm glad I didn't get a chance to buy anything now since I see they didn't deserve my service. I had cruised by the large glass window of Maribel's before I had the courage to enter the shop. Totally gobsmacked (the only appropriate word to use) was I by the colorful array of beautiful clothes; elegant to exotically casual. But, wait! There's more: various styles of jewelry from silver to bone releáis, necklaces, bracelets in a dazzling array. I spent my first visit trolling each rack which are arranged by color, patterns, and size. Don't by mislead by standard size marks because various clothing creators can have a dress mark medium which could easily accommodate a larger body or vise versa. The shoes offered are many different types. Tennis shoes, leather slip-in's, high heels are available even vintage leather pumps! Why are you still home on your comfy couch reading this scrumptious review?! High-tail yourself and some friends and make it down to Maribel's as quickly as possible! Please ignore the bad reviews from haters that need hand holding when shopping and are sore about not being able to sell their gear because....bad taste? Loved some of the pieces here and have bought hundreds $ worth of clothes (around $300 to be exact), but customer service at this place is just not right. I am in my 30s, dressed casually, no make up, just your average girlnextdoor look. And almost every time I get this "you cannot afford anything here" look. Last time I visited the store, I was greeted with "I am not buying any more clothes today". What??? I wasn't trying to sell, I came to shop. But then even if I was to sell something, I would expect something like "Hi, how are you? are you looking to sell? I'm sorry, but I'm not buying anymore today. Maybe you can come back the next day?" It's a shame though, because they do have some really cute clothes. read more

I am ever on the lookout for giftage for my Niece, now four and a half years old. I don't believe that she has ever worn any item of clothing that does NOT start with the letter "p" and ends with "-ink". Even lavender is anathema. I saw some adorable summery items for the micro-fashionistas in training, but unfortunately: nothing in the Niece's size that was pink enough. *le sigh* I decided that I should at least cruise around and take a look for future reference (read: myself)! I saw lots of great names (for pennies on the [retail] dollar;) Maribel is a hybrid upscale resale + new offerings from local vendors. Everything that has been gently loved and coveted before has the feel of something you'd borrow from a gal pal... nothing that smells funky or has any flaws. You completely get the boutique feel, all the way. And did I score? I walked out with a pair of oversized sunnies by Balenciaga Edition that would make Kim Kardashian swoon with envy (at half the current price). The frames are beautiful hues of jade and turquoise, and the lenses are light enough to wear indoors or at dusk (is she hungover, or just too sexy to make eye contact?). They're so over the top HUGE that the case is almost as big as my Alexander McQueen Union Jack Clutch! I have a 10th Degree Black Belt in shopping. Perhaps in a few years... or decades, my Niece will inherit my ever-growing and impeccably curated collection of designer sunglasses and other ridiculousness. I hate to do this, especially for a place that I have patronized for years and especially during covid when small businesses are suffering. I walked in to shop for a client; there were two additional customers in the store that were also shopping. The owner never bothered to greet me or ask if I was shopping for anything in particular. I don't need to be coddled when shopping, I prefer to be left alone most times but I do expect basic customer service - nothing over the top just a simple cordial acknowledgement. After perusing through her limited and over priced, poorly consigned selection, I decided to head out though I contemplated on purchasing a piece. Even though I knew I was being treated completely differently then the other customer there, I extended kindness, thanked her and stilled wished for her to have a good day and was met with a rude and condescending tone, dismissed with an, "ok, bye." I got the feeling she didn't think I would spend any money that day. You might be having a bad day but that's no way to treat a customer who's recommended this place to others in the past. Smug, classist and poor customer service; don't shop here. Save your money for more ethical businesses with better selections. read more

Wow. I hate giving bad reviews but wow. Owner is very haughty and rude. I asked what the terms of consignment were when she was going through my bag of clothes...in the snottiest tone she said, "I'll let you know if I find something in your bag." Yesterday I went into Maribel on a mission for some vintage, about two to three inch thick black lace up boots. No luck, but this is what I love about the shop. I met Kelly yesterday - I believe that's her name - and she is so friendly, personable and she greeted me when I came in the store! I told her what I was looking for, but that I wasn't having any luck. She told me that the best time to come back would be in a few days as people are always consigning there boots especially since it's the fall. That tip was helpful, and even after that we continued talking. It was pretty cool to know that she's so knowledgeable about the store, and it was easy to strike up a small conversation with her. I haven't bought anything yet, but I will be back. Personality means a lot to me when I shop somewhere, and she exuded nothing but good vibes. read more

I don't understand or trust their accounting. They have a lovely selection of clothes, always in good condition. However, I have on multiple occasions had reason to believe that they did not return all of my items at the end of consignment, or did not give me all of my credit due. Once I was told that my account was empty, but found one of my items on the rack! I decided to try one last time. They took 2 large bags and returned EVERY single item to me. Scored some awesome Citzens for Humanity jeans that fit PERFECTLY. I'm a shorty so even petites are a couple of inches too long. But I must have bought for a fellow uber-petite. They were in great condition and reasonably priced. I then consigned for the first time and had a pleasant experience. They were very honest yet polite. My feelings didn't get butt hurt when they turned away one of the pairs of shoes I brought in. They ended up selling another pair. Yay! I stopped shopping here due to unwelcoming customer service. I had made several purchases in the past, and continued to come in despite the hit or miss experiences I had with general friendliness of staff. The last time I came in, I was immediately told to check my bag before being greeted. Then as I started to browse, seconds after I picked up a garment a staff appeared right next to me asking to start a fitting room, while another shopper (I am a person of color, the other shopper was not) leisurely shopped. I had a completely negative experience during my last visit with the sales girl. I was ready to purchase 6 items, and asked her about a beautiful colorful coat on the rack behind the counter. I asked if it was on hold, and if I may see it. The woman annoyed at my request, snapped that it was just sold to the store, not yet priced and on the floor. I asked if I may still see it. She rolled her eyes at me, and lifted her finger to move the coat slightly over to be - so kind - to allow me to see it. This encounter soured my perspective on this spot. I had shopped there for over two years. I appreciated their merchandise selection from the clothing, bags,and jewelry, and location - few blocks away from home. The rude service ruined a relationship. My advice to the sales girl, every action has a consequence, rolling your eyes and treating people like shit could get a brick thrown at you. Maribel has some cute things, but you might want to take a bath - and an antibiotic - after trying anything on. When it first opened years ago, they were a welcome sight to the neighborhood and I enthusiastically burst through their doors, ready to spend whatever I could afford. I excitedly collected an array of clothing to try on, most of it pants. So I get behind that curtain that's threatening to flap open and show off my goods, but I don't care, because I'm about to expand my wardrobe! And then it happens. Just as I begin to slip my foot into the leg of the first pair of pants, I notice an unfriendly sight. Sorry to be graphic, but here it is: A very crusty crotch. I fling the pants away in disgust, but I gather myself together, and try to revive my shopping lust by turning to another pair of pants. This time I look before I step, and guess what? Yup. And then, a third time too. I give up of course, and bring the three pairs to the counter person. I very discreetly let her know of my discovery, and she hastily grabs the pants and sends me on my way. No look of horror. No shame. And no apology either. Thankfully I moved shortly after this and tried to erase the experience from my brain. But now, years later, I'm back in the hood and needing some convenient shopping. I figure, it's been years, my friends like this place, I'm a strong person, a survivor, I'm going back in. So I start small and easy. I'm in there and see this adorable denim Gap jacket that someone has painstakingly embroidered. Birds, butterflies, flowers...renewal and optimism. This is a sign. Things have turned around. I am buying this jacket! And as I'm walking home, feeling quite pleased, there's a chill in the air, so I decide to wear my cute new coat of hope. And then it happens: A crumpled up tissue in the pocket! Maribel, whoever you are, on behalf of consignment shoppers everywhere, I am *begging* you: If you can't be troubled to ensure clothes are *actually* clean, at least make the tiniest effort to let us *believe* they are clean. read more

Die hard thrift store shoppers my friend and I dedicated the day to shop around town at every thrift store we saw. Maribel was on the list and ooooh did it disappoint. First, when we walked in there was no one shopping in the store and two sales people working yet neither greeted us. Second, the selection doesn't meet the needs of women sizes 6-10. Which I found quite odd. Thankfully my friend is a size three and found a few pieces she liked. As she collected the items she wished to try on in her forearm. We noticed one of the workers at the register staring without a smile (the owner) and the other on the sales floor trailing behind us. My friend asked to try on her items and they pointed to the dressing room without a word. I sat in the chairs awaiting my friend to appear. The woman on the sales floor moved toward the dressing room area stopped the shuffling of hangers and watched my friend. We noticed the odd treatment and looked at each other and decided it was time to go. As we left the ladies did not say thank you or have a nice day. They stared as we walked out without a smile. My friend was upset because she liked one of the pieces but refused to give business to a place that lacked good customer service. We weren't greeted, we were followed, and we felt forced to leave by the eerie silent stares of the owner and her employee. This place needs to be nominated to the Better Business Bureau. read more

I love this little store. The owner is super nice and there is a big selection of clothes and accessories. For me it can be hit or miss as I'm a size large and they tend to sell smaller sizes but when I hit the jackpot it's a beautiful thing. I consign there occasionally and appreciate that it's local and just a fun place to shop. If you're lucky the dog is there- adorbs! They have a discount card they offer to stamp for every $10 you spend and once it's full you get $10 off your item of choice. They play cool music and nice place to window shop as well. read more

I use to work down the street from this place and would go in when I was on a break in hopes of finding something good.The clothing selection is in my opinion boring.I will say that the clothing is in very good condition and they do have a pretty good selection of designer jeans. i have also tried to sell once-wasn't a good experience.The girl took my items and about 3-4 days later I get a call saying that I need to come and get them because the owner didn't agree with her picking judgement and they would not be consigning them for me. That's fine but it is very unprofessional to do that after the fact. I felt the owner should have tried to sell them and if they didn't then oh well, it would have been a better judgement call on her part. And besides that experience with consigning, I have always felt the customer service was not good. There was one girl who was always nice, but the other (who I think is the owner) has never been very nice or welcoming-like she doesn't say hello when you walk into her store, that kind of thing. I very rarely write bad reviews for businesses but unfortunately this place was a real turn off and I will never shop there again. read more

This store is a little too hip for me. I am constantly drawn in by their artsy window displays and spacious layout. But the clothes are a bit too vintage for my everyday wardrobe, and the prices on the high-end for secondhand garb. Every once in a while I'll stumble upon a wearable treasure, but it's rarely at a bargain. I do appreciate their selection of locally-made jewelry, though the selection ebbs and flows depending on time of year (more around the holidays). If you are an adventurous fashionista and can pull off the sequined 70s diva look, or a high-neck prairie dress, or both at once, more power to you! You'll enjoy the selection here. read more

Unfortunate customer service. No greeting upon entering. After about 4min in the store, the first thing the clerk said was "Can you put your coffee on the counter while you're in the store?" I said ok and left. Seems odd that on a street lined with coffees shops and clothing stores, that policy would suddenly come into existence. I'm curious if anyone else has been asked this? I guess I just don't understand how this business works. Brought in a bunch of stuff, the girl went through quickly and picked one item. From then on it was up to me to see if it sold. The store has no responsibility to the consignee. How hard would it be for them to notify via email when an item is sold. It's not just Maribel, but all the consignment shops I've been to. This is such a terrific shop and such a welcome contrast to the huge, glossy wind-bag that is the Gap right down the block!! I have found some true treasures in this shop such as Capital shorts, Burning Torch skirts, a Mint blouse, and a few other pieces which would have cost an unbelievable arm n' leg anywhere else. I wandered in today thinking I would try to find a Spring-y sweater...I didn't, but found something much more desirable!! I bought a one-of-a-kind pair of earrings from a local designer who uses found objects and recycled gems...I will be wearing these for a long time! I have found the jewelry selection to be consistently interesting here. There is always something to tempt me, and always something I long for... I would gladly give 5 stars rather than 4, tho' often times I am disappointed that the ultra cool items are in ultra tiny sizes. I wear a 4 or 6, which is not big. On more than one occasion my eyes have misted over upon spying Marc Jacobs dresses or (today, in fact) a cream colored trench coat...alas! these are always in size 0 (WTF?!...who actually wears this non size??) or size 2...It's probably for the best...I am supposed to be pinching my pennies with the recession and all...still, it is unlikely that I would ever be a size 2 (or desire to be) and thus, I continue my shopping...This is by far the best consignment store around and often has terrific mixes of current as well as classic clothing. I've found it to be a little hit or miss, but when you hit at Maribel, you hit it out of the park. I found a blue suede tuxedo-style jacket lined in tight-weave linen there and asked the girl behind the counter about it. Apparently one of their consigners is a photo shoot stylist and had received the jacket as a gift. If you treat your clothes like friends (as I do), you can't help but appreciate it when the people who sell them to you can tell you their stories. (P.S. I was too unemployed to buy this jacket for myself and was heartbroken about it until the man in my life gave it to me for Christmas. He's bona fide.) read more

I have gone here a few times over the years and I have some pieces in my closet that I really love from here so I am going to try to be balanced. What I like about this place - - The location is really good for me. - I do, occasionally, find really nice pieces from here. She tends to get some high-end merchandise. Unfortunately, there are a few negatives a few others have listed - - I find some of the prices a bit expensive for used cloths. They are definitely on the high-end price side. - This is minor, but every time I try cloths on I feel like the changing rooms are not very secure and people can see me. I think I have flashed some unsuspecting man waiting patently for their wife/girlfriend a few times. - I definitely get mixed customer service. Sometimes Ann is great and other time she is not as friendly. Forget taking kids in here and you will definitely get the stinky eye. I dig Maribel. And I really dig supporting local businesses and reused clothing. But there have been some weird occurrences. Like for many of my Maribel shopping trips, inexplicably, I come away uncertain that I really wanted to commit to my purchases. It's as though I'm bewitched. And I think I know why. The staff is sweet, friendly, and knowledgeable. The environment is small, inviting, and well organized. All this just really makes you want to buy something. Indeed I've encountered some great finds here -- jackets (one awesome Levi's denim jacket with a high-ish waist, fury collar, and a Japanese style screen print with embroidered butterflies on the back), bags/purses, and a sweet bright green terry cloth dress. But then again, I can also get caught up in the rapture of the moment, and purchase things that aren't quite my style or don't quite fit. And the prices just aren't cheap enough to validate such slips of spending. But I'll go back again and again and again with the hopes of making another awesome find. read more
