I came back last night around 9:40 PM, and once again, the customer service was amazing. The young lady working has such a sweet personality--I really enjoy her spirit and how welcoming she is. This time, she suggested I try the pasta. I was excited because it looked really good, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to expectations. After taking a few bites, I realized it was very bland--there was little to no seasoning at all. I'm a bit confused because the customer service is consistently excellent, but the food hasn't been matching that same level. I'm not sure if it was because they were close to closing at 10, but that still doesn't justify serving unseasoned food. I really want to love this place because the vibe and service are there--I just hope the food quality becomes more consistent. read more

Hosting a friend and showing them what makes Houston great in a short amount of time can be daunting at times because there are so many options and its also great to explore new local spots. As part of a friend's visit, I suggested finding some sort of cajun/creole cuisine since she doesn't get it back home and she found Creole Kitchen and Daiquiris. This is one of those, potentially easily skipped, restaurants connected to a gas station. To me, gas station food is a very Texas thing (also in Miami where one of my favorite tapas restaurants exist) so I'm glad we got to take her to a bit of a double whammy. This is definitely a casual eatery and seemed as if most people do takeaway but there were a few tables for dining in restaurant. We were kindly greeted by the staff and the cashier let us know they had physical menus to review as we all tried to read the overhead tv menus. We weren't super hungry but wanted to sample various things so went with the seafood combo platter, side of fried okra, collards, and my partner got a small gumbo jeaux. The food came out hot and fresh and in to go boxes, I don't think they carry dine in settings but we were provided extra togo containers to eat in. The fried platter was done very well, fish was super tender and moist with a nice crunchy cornmeal batter. The shrimp were also excellently fried and retained their bounce without being overcooked. The fries and okra were also just too notch to me. I also liked the hashbrown and thought it was a nice sweet bite to go along with the fried foods. I enjoyed the flavor of the collards but thought there was a bit too much broth to greens ratio, the flavor was on point for me though. I had a small taste of my partner's gumbo and thought it was good but didn't have much to make a strong opinion. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant, esp with it being so close to me. Alright. Just off 288 and OST next to a convenient store / gas station sits Creole Kitchen. Decor is set with a Mardi Gras vibe, kinda small inside probably about 10 tables. Service was good. The young lady that took my order was very nice. They have a pretty extensive menu to choose from so there's that. I didn't expect this place to be next to a gas station, but based on past experiences, I had a feeling the food would be good. Ambiance: As mentioned, it's adjacent to a gas station, and you can smell the delicious cooking from outside. There's limited seating, and during my visit, it was unfortunately a bit warm inside. Service: The service was excellent, and I was greeted as soon as I walked in. One person managed all the orders while others delivered food to the tables. Food: The portion sizes were great for the price, and there were plenty of appealing options. I really enjoyed the Creole pasta with the boudin egg rolls. Although the pasta could have used a bit more seasoning, it was still tasty overall. I'd also recommend their lemonade, which was really refreshing. I haven't visited in a while because the taste of the food is ALWAYS INCONSISTENT. So I went today and got two sides(I hardly eat meat) Mac and cheese and greens. The greens tasted HORRIBLE... like swamp water the gators ish and pissed in. The greens tasted like when you clean the dirt off them but didn't drain the water.. you just cooked it AS IS. The Mac n cheese was tasteless also but not as bad as the greens. I drop off but decided to call to inform them because they can't be aware. The response I CANT DO NOTHING BOUT IT... Next to a gas station so very casual. Pretty busy with people in and out and a good balance of people chilling three and ordering to go. Me and my friends stayed there for hours after church without any problems. I also saw some people working there which is always nice. Service is great they are so nice and so honest. I ordered the boudin egg rolls, beignets, and blue raspberry margarita daiquiri. I also tried some of my friend's collard greens and fried shrimp. The sauce that comes with the egg rolls is perfect. The website is misleading or they are because the menu does not specify certain days they are participating in BHRW but when I came they said its only on certain days. Well this means they are not really participating because they are just offering daily specials that they offer anyway. I tried the loaded heaven which was a catfish fillet, seafood dressing, etoufee and a piece of bread. The fish was good, fried perfectly. The dressing was too running if that makes sense. It didn't have any seafood and the etoufee was a tad salty. The wings were salty and the fries was cool. Overall this is another spot that gets seasoning confused with salt. They not the same. Baby! Am I in Houston or Nawlins'? Flavor lives here! I have passed by this place for years and have always wondered what went on inside regarding food. Was it a regular restaurant or a catering kitchen? I wasn't sure until I saw another Food Reviewer dine here. With nothing but good things to say I decided to try it for myself. This cute spot sits next door to a Shell gas station in the 3rd Ward on O.S.T. It's where "Yumminess" resides! Lol. Your Cajun/Creole staples are here! From gumbo, to etouffee, and beignets it's a flavor bomb going off on all angles. Don't come for the looks of the place come for food and stay for hospitality! Shout out to Neicey who took good care of me! She even gave me a sample of their chicken/sausage gumbo without me asking! That gumbo?!?! Chef's kiss! For my first time, I had to go with the Chicken/Sausage Gumbo in addition to their Fried Fish Platter w/ Fries to test things further. As mentioned, the Gumbo was superb, and the fries were seasoned well and served hot. The fish, fried hard, was fresh and flaky. We had a friend visiting from out of state who wanted to try all of the diverse foods Houston has to offer. By the end of the weekend, we'd pretty much hit on all the major cuisines but still wanted something creole or Cajun that wasn't anything fancy. We settled on Creole Kitchen near OST and the Med Center. It's located next to a gas station off of OST near 288. It's a decent size dining room with standard no frills tables and chairs but plenty of room to stick around for a while. To fulfill our adventurous spirit and curious, we sampled a variety of different options on the menu. My favorites were the fried catfish and okra. The breading is really nice I think cornmeal style (at least on the fish). Little okra bites are addictive and a small order is more than enough for 2-3 people to share. Everything came out super hot and fresh as well. Their fries are crispy and have a texture and flavor that to harkens back to Arby's (which is a good thing as I think those fries are the best among fast food drive thrus). I enjoyed the gumbo that came with crab and several pieces of shrimp, but wanted some sausage to top it off and felt the flavor was a bit muted overall. I recently visited Creole Kitchen and Daiquiris and would rate the food a 3.5 out of 5, but the service was a 0 out of 5. I placed my order online and went into the store to pick it up. As soon as I walked in, the employees were watching TV and seemed more focused on the show than welcoming customers. There was no greeting or acknowledgment when I entered, which immediately set a negative tone. While picking up my order, I decided to purchase an additional drink because the Kool-Aid punch looked really good. After receiving my order, I went back to my car and realized I was missing my okra. When I returned to the store and mentioned it, another employee casually said they were out of okra. At no point during my online order or pickup was I informed that they were out, nor was I offered a substitute upfront. Only after I brought it up did they offer to replace it with garlic mashed potatoes--but there was no garlic flavor at all. It tasted like plain mashed potatoes with little to no seasoning, which was disappointing. I ordered the catfish platter, and I will say the fish itself was good, and the hush puppies were decent. However, the lack of communication, poor customer service, and overall inattentiveness really took away from the experience. It's an attachment to a convenience store and gas station, which might dissuade some from trying it out...but I am so glad we stopped in! Everyone we encountered was super friendly and gave us great recommendations, but Koi really stood out! He was kind, very personable, and had the most welcoming smile. He even gave us complimentary Arnold Palmers since it was our first time in! I ordered two appetizers - the boudin egg rolls and the meat pies. Both were crispy, flaky and delicious! The boudin egg rolls were warm boudin rice egg rolls with melty pepper jack cheese, while the Natchitoches meat pies were a flavorful combination of ground beef, pork, and bell peppers - a bit greasy, but very good! For my entree I ordered the gumbo jeaux. Pretty decent gumbo with shrimp, chicken, and sausage. The roux was very well-done; the protein was a little chewy, though. Very nice greeting and service. We mainly went to get gumbo. We ordered fried fish and shrimp, got gumbo and greens and fried chicken. We decided to get it to-go. It is a small space inside, two regular tables on one side and two tall tables on the other side. All four tables had guest. Clean inside and music playing. The drinks are what will keep this place open! The young lady at the front was sweet. Food: While the food is enjoyable, it's food we could've made at home. That may actually be a plus for some, though. We ordered online and it took only 10 min for it to be ready and it was hot and made to order. Everything was enjoyable but I hate I spent $16-$18 on the poboy because the bread was dry and there wasn't very much shrimp on it. The meat pie is their own take on the Jamaican pie and regrettably $12.99 for 2 and tastes like seasoned ground beef. Today, I had one of the best meals you could get from a location connected to a gas station. I have been searching for a place with fried fish and shrimp. I've driven past this location for several weeks, since moving on this side of US 288 but just didn't have a clue what I was missing. From walking in the door to leaving out with my leftovers, the experience was wonderful. The cashier Icy was very informative and helpful when deciding on the meal. My roommate and I settled on the Super Platter for Two that comes with double French fries. We subbed one order for mac & cheese, per Icy's suggestion. We also ordered soft drinks, fresh lemonade and Southern Sweet Tea. We sat down at one of the five tables inside the small end-cap storefront. There was a video on loop with the owner cooking some of her signature dishes. It was edited like a social media short or reel, so it was cute and entertaining. She showed various drinks she paired with the entrées and appetizers, as well. The food was packaged in to-go containers. Sealed to-go utensils are also given, for convenience. The platter was overflowing with piping hot, fried goodness. Shrimp, wings and hushpuppies swamped the container while two large fish fillets at the base of the plate. One bite of a French fry and a swig of the Southern Tea and I knew I had made the right choice. Each bite, from the mac & cheese to the wings, was perfectly seasoned and expertly crafted. While the fish was thick and flavorful, I would have preferred a thinner fillet, fried extra crispy, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. To end such a delicious meal, I ordered a separate dessert of Banana-LESS Pudding. It was everything I love about this classic Southern dessert, especially the no bananas part!!! The Roommate is a Banana Pudding PhD LOL, so the absence of fruit made him suspicious but even he was impressed with the silken texture, Chessman cookie topper and graham cracker crust. Balanced flavor, thick pudding and portioned appropriately. The entire experience was so good, in fact, I asked to speak to the Manager Ashley so I could express my contentment and joy. The menu is diverse, allowing for vegetarian/pescatarian tastebuds to be satisfied. Healthy portions, seasoned like your Big Mama would make and friendly service make for an unforgettable meal in a fast-casual setting. Every time I go to this place I enjoy my food, but chances are someone I'm with may experience some sort of a problem. I tend to find myself selecting the "safer" items here (e.g. their fried food, the poboys, or wings) but every time someone has gotten the seafood heaven, they complain about the temperature of the food once it's given to them being lukewarm. One of my friends also got the pasta and felt her food was "warm" as well. My last visit I got the hot sausage poboy which is with the Patton's Hot Sausage .. so flavorful. They also had a mardi gras daiquiri that was really good but extremely rich paired with the food. Didn't even come close to finishing lol it kinda tastes like egg nog but better, I'm not a fan of eggnog. I had a wonderful experience at Creole Kitchen and Daiquiris! I come here often on break from work and always greeted with kindness smiles and some knowing my name. That should tell you something lol. The food is absolutely flavorful every time I come. I had the catfish poboy, and it was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning. For the sides, I love getting the seasoned sweet potatoe fries, it complemented the dish perfectly. Chef kiss to whoever made the poboy and fries. The menu is pricey but has a great variety of Creole favorites, and I'm excited to try more next time! The ambience was cozy and laid-back, with a lively New Orleans vibe but the establishment is kinda small on the inside. You can dine in or go through the drive-thu. They do takeout as well but it's whatever you choose. It's the kind of place you can relax in and enjoy a meal with you an a friend a that's it. Not a family place you can bring everyone in and sit. The service was excellent though! The is staff always friendly, attentive, efficient and made sure I was well taken care of throughout my order making till I left. Been hearing that the food at this place is good for a while now so came to try it on a Sunday around 5pm. I was going to call my order in but was driving so I went through the drive-through. I was the only one in the drive-through and on the inside, there may have been two or three tables of people only. Once I placed my order I waited for about seven minutes before someone even came to the window. When they came to the window, they did apologize for the long wait, said that their Wi-Fi was down. I said no problem and gave them my card. My total was roughly $43 and some change. I ordered the seafood platter sub the fries for red beans and rice and added greens and candied yams. When she came back with my card, I asked her if I could please have tartar and cocktail sauce she said yes. I then waited for an additional 15 minutes or longer, I'm trying to give Grace, before my food was ready. They saw me looking through the window, no one came and said it'll be five more minutes or acknowledge my wait. Another young lady came to the window, and handed me my food. She did not say hello, no greeting whatsoever. I checked my bag, to make sure the food was right and it was. I waived the other lady to come back and . I asked if I could please have an additional tartar sauce. She huffed and rolled her eyes, went back to get the tartar and when she came back to the window, there was no thank you for your patience, no thank you for your business, no we'll give you a free drink the next time you come for your wait and thank you for being patient. Absolutely nothing! Unfortunately, this is why I don't visit these kinds of establishments. With this type of wait time, and horrible service, you will not be in business for long, no matter how good your food is. But here is a pro tip for new business. It's not what happens to you. It's how you handle it. A simple acknowledgment, a simple accommodation made, and I would have been okay with the wait. But to not acknowledge me, not acknowledge the wait time, not thank me for my business and spending $43 after waiting for over 20 minutes in a drive-through is horrible service. Excited to try this place. I enjoyed the Creole butter salmon and substitute the green beans for red bean and rice. Both had smoke turkey in it. The substitute was $2 up-charge. Everything was seasoned to perfection. I would definitely refer this place to family and friends.

Maybe the other food is good but i was very disappointed with my seafood platter for two. The grease was old and the seafood wasn't fresh. I hate seafood fried in old grease :-/ also please stop sealing fried foods in to-go containers with no ventilation. When I got it home, 5 minutes from my house, food had started sweating and my fried fish was soggy :-/ maybe eating the food there would give me a better experience. also received the third degree trying to pick up my food from the window. I ordered at the drive through window. Asked for an additional side. Got to the window to pay and confirmed with the young lady that she got my order for an extra side, she confirmed. Got home and you guessed it, it wasn't included. It's not a huge deal. When I patronize small businesses I don't leave a negative review until I call them, many times, they apologize and I go on about my day. So I call and let them know. I don't expect anything free. I'm simply letting them know. Not only do I get "sweetheart, you didn't pay for that" but I got a "first of all". I'm good. Won't be back.
