I've actually been writing this review in my head for the past few months (ok, I'm officially addicted to yelp and can no longer dine without analyzing every part of my dining experience) but have been holding off because I SOOOOO want to give this place 5 stars because to be honest, it is one of my FAVORITE places on the island and I just adore this quaint little eatery for so many reasons. SO I decided to wait till I went at least one more time to justify 5 stars, and this morning I went....being true to yelp though, I can't give it the perfect rating that I want to....but let me still try to convince you of truly how WONDERFUL this place is!
So first, let me get the "bad" out of the way. And I'll make it quick since I don't want to focus on that. The service for the past couple of times that I have been has been SLOW. Also, when we ask for things such as a refill of water, pepper, etc, we've had to ask more than once. This is why I can't give it a 5 star rating. But to be fair, I really think it is only because they are understaffed and I've seemed to pick the busiest days to go (Sat and Sun). Ok that's it, enough about that.
Now here are the reasons that I LOVE Cream Pot:
1) The Ambiance! This place is the cutest little restaurant ever! When you first walk in you feel like you've stepped into a little magical place. I'm always so tickled just SITTING here! (Disclaimer: I am a "girly girl" who is a total sucker for things like "afternoon tea", pretty napkins, fresh flowers and anything "mini". If you are a guy, the ambiance here will probably threaten your manhood and you may not even want to sit by the window for fear that someone might see you). But also, what I love about the ambiance is that the owner paid so much attention to detail and many of the decorations were brought from Japan and Europe. There are a lot of vintage "toys" like the red tin firetruck and a little doll's dress that add to to charm of this place. They recently opened their outdoor eating area which is particularly "pretty" as well, as long as it's not a hot day.
2) The Food! I know lots of yelpers are knocking the food here, but I really do think that it is different and unique from other places that serve breakfast/brunch-y foods. They put a little "twist" on everything that they make so that it's not really something you can get at other places. For example, I love their rice! It's a very subtle flavor that is "refreshing". And their omelets are NEVER greasy or runny and they stuff it with fresh, light ingredients. I also have had their baked eggs with a yummy "broth" on the bottom, the salmon benedict, and of course their crepes! Oh! And their specialty drinks are soo good, especially the iced chocolate- HEAVEN!! Shakes and "spritzers" are all very good too!
3) The attention to detail. I know that there are some hard core foodies out there, and I do love GOOD FOOD and am always unhappy if I am served food that is less than great. But I also appreciate the "experience" of dining somewhere. When there is great food paired with some aspect of "experience" alllll the better!! Cream Pot adds little details to your eating experience by bringing out your utensils in a basket lined with a pretty napkin (yay), brings your bill in a cute little box or a tiny jeweled paperclip, adds lemons to your water, and even gave my toddler a tiny silver spoon that one time that I brought her. They adorn the tables with mini jars filled with mini flowers, and have nice, cushy seats to sit in! I love it (have I said that yet? I don't think so...haha)
4) The owners. The owners of Cream Pot are a really friendly couple that basically act as hostess, cashier, waiter/waitress, cook, bus boy and everything else. And every time I go to eat there, they always remember that I have a little daughter and ask how she is doing, and ALWAYS makes sure they thank us before leaving. Once the owner even ran out the door and stuck his head out to say thanks and bye. I don't think they remember my name, but surely remember my face, my mom's face and are always so hospitable. I know I mentioned in some other reviews, but it always tells me a lot when the owners are WORKING hard serving their customers.
5) The service. Ok, I know I had to knock the service here, and truly it is slow and sometimes you don't get what you ask for, but in the very least, the service is always FRIENDLY, at least in my many experiences here.
So I hope I have convinced you to go and try this place, and support a local business that is truly deserving. Yes, the prices may be high and service may be lacking, BUT despite all that, I still go back to place over and over again, because it really is a special place. Go on a weekday, around lunch time and you may actually have a real 5 star experience with great service. It all depends on when you go. Man, I think I just wrote a novel!
