Strawberry Croissants!!
Eunhae H.

In 2024, Cream Pan earned Yelp's top honor as the best pastry shop in Orange County--rightfully so and well deserved! They've also been recognized by The Orange County Register, TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice, and OC Weekly. Influenced by French and Japanese-style baking, they specialize on cream pans--hence the name. Cream pans are sweet buns filled with a light, silky custard. Whenever I come here, there's always a long line but it's so worth it. I get their famous strawberry croissant, which is filled with a perfectly balanced cream custard that's just the right amount of sweetness for my liking. They have a wide range of options--from sandwiches and rice dishes to donuts, cakes, and even sushi. They also offer catering, including strawberry croissants, sandwich trays, whole cakes (6- or 9-inch), roll cakes, and sushi trays. Catering is available at all three locations: Tustin, Fountain Valley, and Lomita.

They're known for their strawberry croissants, and they are definitely delicious. But, I've noticed over the years, especially recently, the prices have gone much higher and the product seems much smaller. I would love getting their variety pack of sandwiches, but again, the prices kept rising, so I hardly get them anymore. They hardly fill you up, anyway, because they're so tiny. The Spam and egg musubis are tasty. The scones are fluffy and not hard and dry like at most other bakeries. Their carrot juice is nice. If anything, I'll go in and get their white sandwich bread, brioche buns, and butter rolls. They have curry dishes, California rolls, spicy tuna rolls, and many other items. It's a small shop, and items usually sell out way before closing time. Service is meh, definitely went downhill over the years as well, unfortunately. Regardless, it's quaint and unassuming. There's seating outside on the patio. There used to be inside seating before COVID, and they just use that area for storage, now. It doesn't look great. But, there are plenty of other restaurants, shops, coffee shops, etc., so you can walk around the whole block.

A very popular bakery known for their strawberry croissants. The pastries are good, but I actually come here more for their sandwiches. I like the variety and the portion size, perfect for grabbing something quick to go for events. That said, if you're looking for a cute bakery to sit and enjoy your pastries, this isn't the spot. The space is small and cramped with a narrow cafeteria-style line where you order (but barely can see their faces as the bakery cases are too high), pay, and head out. There are boxes and supplies stacked around the store, so the ambiance isn't the highlight. Despite the setup, they're always busy because the pastries and other food items are good.

I came back to Cream Pan today for breakfast and lunch to go items. The ham and cheese croissant was excellent and the pan au raisin is savory and not too sweet. I also picked the katsu sando for lunch. Staff were friendly and welcoming as always. The ambiance is casual and typical of a bakery. I have included pictures of the inside of what Cream Pan offers. Enjoy!

When we moved to Old Town a few years ago, I was happy because we were so close to Cream Pan. On our weekend walks, we always pass by Cream Pan. It always smells amazing because they make everything fresh. Whenever we celebrate a birthday (which is often because we have three kids), we always order a Strawberry Shortcake a couple of days beforehand and pick it up the morning we need it. It saves time and we don't need to stand in line. I tried their Chocolate Cake and I wasn't a fan of it. I thought it was chocolate cake, but they had bananas in it. And some of their pastries are a hit or miss, but their strawberry croissant and cream puff never fail in presentation nor taste. Their breads, katsu curry, and sandwiches are also really good. Come early because they sell out quickly.

Run, don't walk to get their delicious pastries! Perfectly sweet to perfection! It's hard to stop at just one. I picked up my order and there was no wait. Everyone was friendly also.

Cream Pan is a must when you visit Tustin! 1. The Strawberry Custard Croissant is what they are known for and run you around $2.40 per piece or if you purchase in bulk it is cheaper. I opted for the 14 at $32. Great for sharing. 2. The Cream Puff use the same custard in the filling They do run out of their bread toward the end of the day.

omgoooooood!!! my friend brought us strawberry cream puffy pastry. yummmz

I love bakeries, but I really love Japanese bakeries. Cream Pan has been popular for their strawberry croissants for over 2 decades now. And this pastry has maintained its perfected custard filling ever since. They have transformed a humble croissant into a super kawaii dessert with this light custard and sliced strawberries. They have ready-packed boxes of 6 croissants each. A perfect dessert to take home or gift your favorite person. This bakery also has many favorites like curry pan - on this day they had baked chicken curry pan and regular fried beef curry pan. Both are delicious. Sliced sesame bread is one of my favorites. I love making my own egg salad sandwich using this bread - lightly toasted. As good as those fluffy egg sandwiches you can get in a Japan konbini! Love the ready-made sando loaded with cucumber, lettuce, cabbage, or tomato . Chicken katsu sando, croquette sando, and the egg salad sando, all hit the spot. Best sandwiches ever! There are many pastries, breads, sandwiches, rice dishes and other sweets to try. You will need to pace yourself. Come back and savor all of these. So the next time you feel the need to take a trip to Japan, visit Cream Pan! It's the next best choice!

Chicken katsu curry was really good--crispy, juicy chicken paired with a rich and flavorful curry. Simple, comforting, and satisfying. Definitely something I'd order again!

Came and got the azuki cream pan and iconic strawberry croissant. We easily found parking out front. There was a short line out the door but it moved quickly, just make sure you don't leave the door open. If the line inside is full keep the door closed till it gets shorter then go inside. The have both sweet and savory pastries. The sweet ones are out front as you pass the case facing the door. The savory selections are featured after you turn the corner of the counter. They also have sandwiches as well as a Karaage and musubi combo which I want to try. I got the iconic strawberry croissant which was flakey and had a bit of custard and a few slices of strawberry inside. It's 2 maybe 3 bites. It was delicious but I think I prefer the azuki cream pan. The azuki cream pan was filled with azuki bean and had a light sweet cream filling too. The combination of the 2 made for a delightful taste and texture. The process is easy, stand in line, order the items as you see them. So sweet items first then savory. If you want a bunch of sandwiches or musubi then grab a tray. They also have freshly baked bread before your reach the register. You can't go wrong with the strawberry croissant but I suggest you try one of their other products too.

A cute little shop in Tustin, stopped by for post lunch coffee and snack and left very happy. The staff here are so welcoming and friendly. The pastries were a pleasant surprise. I got a sugar donut and coffee and was very happy. donut was soft and fluffy and not to grainy with the sugar coating which was good. the coffee was fresh and not bitter. The had a nice small seating area to enjoy my food and the parking was reasonable. overall i liked this spot for a quick stop for treats.

A must visit for us on the way to Riverside. We arrived around 11am on a Sunday morning. There is a small line but moved fast. Friendly and fast services. We sat outside to enjoy some pastries and got some to go. Our favorites: strawberry croissant and tiger cheese!

I love Cream Pan. Whenever I'm in the OC area, I always make a stop here. They're most famous for their strawberry croissants, and for good reason - I love them so much. The pastry is incredibly airy and light, and the filling isn't overly sweet, making it absolutely perfect. It is also super reasonablly priced $2.40 and cheaper if you buy more. I also tried their azuki cream, which has a red bean filling topped with fresh whipped cream, and I really enjoyed it. I usually pick up their custard pudding as well, and it never disappoints. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of their baked goods. The service is quick and efficient, and there are a few outdoor tables where you can sit and enjoy your treats. Parking is easy since it's located in a plaza. I would definitely recommend this bakery!

Any vegan options?

I don't think so because I asked them for dairy free items. They only had sourdough and another form of rustic bread. They also will say there is the chance for cross contamination. Hope this helps!

Anything with ube/purple yam?

I am not sure, but I believe they have.

Gluten free options?

Unfortunately, no.

Do you deliver to a local area?

You can use apps like DoorDash, UberEats and etc for deliveries. This place does not do their own delivery service.

No they are not open on Thanksgiving

How are the strawberry croissants after being a day old?

They are pretty good. Just make sure to refrigerate them.

Is it just me or have other people also noticed how every item is like half the size it used to be and costs more as well?

I agree. A little harder to enjoy more now because of it. Wouldn't mind paying more for the old size.

How much are the mixed sandwich boxes and do they run out easily?

Is there katsu sando(tonkatsu sandwich)?

Yes and they are delicious!

What cheese do they use for their ham & cheese croissant? It was so delicious!

I think they use Gruyère

Yes according to there IG but closes early https://www.instagram.com/p/Ckny6tirPN9/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

I believe so if they pick up! They run out of things so early so order for pickup

For the Tustin location?? If I come at 9:30am on Sunday, would there be a higher probability their strawberry croissants being sold out? Would you recommend preordering the 14 pieces?

Do the strawberry croissants freeze well?

They have fresh cream and strawberries so I don't think they'd freeze well. Eating them fresh is best or at least in a day or 2👍🏼

Gluten free options?

No. Not at all. My husband is gluten free and waits in the car.

I wasn't expecting much, but it was absolutely perfect and so good with drinks. Pork Cutlet Curry -- 4/5 Classic katsu curry flavor, but the breading was a little on the harder and darker side. The assorted tempura was good, they had a lot of variety and I enjoyed the mushroom, asparagus, and potato! The shrimp tempura portion is very generous in size and was good. A little overpriced for what it is, but if you love this assortment of fried tempura, it is overall good to try! The filet katsu don was amazing, and I like that it came with a small bowl of miso soup! It's always nice to have that as a complimentary side dish. The katsu was crispy and complimented well by the sauce! I'd highly recommend this dish! And now for the star of the show... the soba flight! Both of their menus are very similar, and you will see some same dishes across the two. We started off with their crispy kara-age (fried chicken) which is best eaten with a squeeze of lemon and dunked into their yummy garlicky, oniony dipping sauce. Always best eaten right out of the fryer, piping hot. You just can't go wrong with their most popular app. For starters, we also got their blistered shishito peppers, which comes with bonito flakes dancing from the steam of the peppers. If you've never had shishito peppers before, they are very very mild in spiciness, but be warned you'll always have one extra spicy pepper when you least expect it! For our main, we got the spicy beef udon, which comes simmering in its metal bowl atop a fire, keeping it hot as you enjoy it slowly. The red broth has a nice kick of heat, but not so spicy that it will irritate your throat. The slices of beef are oh so tender and flavorful. The rich broth clings on perfectly to the thick udon noodles. If you're sharing, plan on getting extra udon noodles to soak up all that delicious broth! At the end, drop the cheesy rice ball into the broth to make a congee, soaking up more of that delicious broth. Expectations may have been a bit high due to the popularity and good word about Hako, but I…read moreregularly am on the hunt for good Japanese katsu and curry, so have tried some pretty good katsu in my days. First off, it's a pretty great value. You get a set meal for a very good price these days, since the katsu meals come with their homemade katsu sauce (tastes like a slightly sweet and sour peanut satay), cabbage salad, rice, miso soup, and pickles. If you're looking for value only, this is great. Even the appetizers and sushi rolls are reasonable. I like that you can add on extra curry or some pieces of sushi or gyoza with your katsu or udon meal, and can add more than one. We saw a lot of takeout orders going out, though you don't get the soup. - Agedashi Tofu A light, popcorn crisp fry with sturdy cubes of tofu with enough dashi to cover them all. Respectable appetizer if you like tofu. All the pieces are very hot inside. - Hako Tonkatsu The pork cutlet is pounded so flat and enormous. I added a side of mild curry, which tasted like a good normal Japanese curry, and the additional gyoza were standard grocery filling (seemed to have more of a baked than fried texture on the skin). The nutty satay-like sauce went well with the katsu, but the curry was better. The rice was good and fluffy, and the pickles added an acidic balance. The miso soup was on the salty side. I liked how light and refreshing the cabbage salad was, though I prefer other dressings over this Thousand Island-like creamy one. The katsu itself was a bit disappointing, as it was devoid of moisture and the crisp could have been better. - Chicken Katsu The chicken was slightly better than the pork, as it retained a little more moisture and was just a bit more tender. However, all other aspects were the same. We tried the spicy curry for this plate, and it had the same taste as the regular curry, but with a bite. If you like pain more than taste when you eat spicy foods, I guess that'd be why you choose the spicy here. Considering it took nearly an hour for us to get a table on a random weekday night (seated close to 8pm), I definitely was expecting the food to taste much better. The tables are situated very close to each other, too, so you'll probably have a neighbor within your elbow space. It's not even a contender for a majority of katsu places in NorCal or Hawaii. But if you're in the area and have a craving and want a lot of food for the price, it's fine. If you have leftovers, they will give you an extra new side of their sauce, which is sweet.

Menus and a carafe of iced water was brought out immediately. We asked to order right away as my boys and their friends were hungry and we were in between hockey games for a tournament. There's good lunch deal to add house rolls for $4.95 more or a specialty roll for $7.95 to any ramen We ordered the following; 1. Tonkotsu ramen w/ house salmon roll: I tasted the broth for this. Its a light creamy and flavorful broth. Not salty. 2. Spicy Tonkotsu x 2 w/ house salmon rolls: I tasted the broth for this and it's spicier than the usual spicy tonkatsu I eat in San Jose. Perfect for my spicy preference. One of the 13yo drank the entire bowl of broth and the other 2 almost finished their broth. 3. Habanero Miso w/ Angry Tail: This was hubby's. The broth is very good but it's too spicy for me to enjoy it. 4. Black Ramen: This bowl was for me. I really like this broth flavor alot but wish it was spicy like the spicy tonkatusu. Overall, all the broths were very rich and well flavored, not salty. The noodles were cooked just right, firm.with a nice crunch when you bite into it. The amount of bean sprouts and wood ear mushrooms was just right. The half soft boil egg was perfect but the 3 slices of char xiu pork could taste better. It was bland and was not soft enough as it did not easily break when you bite into it. As for the sushi rolls, It was pretty decent for the price you are paying to add to your ramen order. The service was good as there was only 2 staff running the floor. They were quick to assist us with more water and napkins. We will definitely return in the future if we are in town and craving ramen/sushi combo.
