We stopped at Crazyweed on recommendation of our B&B hosts for our last evening meal of our trip. The food was excellent. We had a salad with blackberries, strawberries and goat cheese, and our two entrees were the Vietnamese grilled chicken and the steamed cod which came on top of a bed of edamame in fish sauce-enhanced broth. Service was okay, but did not meet up to the quality of the food. Crazyweed's interior is simple and colorful (typically Swiss -- as the owners are), with large framed photos and big picture windows of the majestic moutains nearby. The train goes by just a few hundred feet away and adds to the interesting atmosphere. Unfortunately, those large windows make for a rather chilly temperature inside when the weather is not cooperating. I'm not sure if they just can't crank up the heat high enough to compensate, or they just don't bother. When we were there, it snowed that evening. I've heard great things from a couple friends about this Canmore eatery and I'm so glad we weren't disappointed by all the hype! To start, the restaurant itself has amazing interior design and decor - makes me want to lounge there all day long with all their cozy bench seats loaded with beautiful pillows, and some tables with huge armchairs that look equally amazing. The large windows around the restaurant make you feel like you're eating outdoors. The open kitchen concept is always a big hit and well ventilated so we didn't smell like food at the end. The food was Ah-Mazing! Had the Pork Belly Watermelon Salad to start - soooo good! I followed up with the special of the day which was a Pan Seared Spring Salmon served with cauliflower risotto, asparagus and a tarragon sauce I believe. The salmon was perfectly cooked! My hubs ordered the braised short rib pappardelle and it was great too - full of beautiful rich flavors and melt in your mouth short ribs - the only drawback were the housemade noodles, which although al dente and fresh, stuck together in big clumps. For drinks, I ordered a standard caipirinha and the hubs ordered the grapefruit margarita - I loved both! Would totally order the grapefruit margarita again despite the high price tag! Our server, I'm sorry I forgot his name - but the local "Parisian" was excellent, friendly, and unobtrusive! I should note that although this place looks super swanky, they are really kid friendly as evidenced by accomodating our baby in his car seat at a 4 seat table with a bench seat so we could put the car seat there - plus the two other tables dining at the same time as us who also had two kid/babies. We had the ribeye, and Thai chicken, honestly, probably two of the best dishes we've ever had! We had banana fritters for dessert, holy doodle were they amazing. To top it off, phenomenal service! Came here for lunch with my fam, and wow what a pleasant surprise! The atmosphere is super cute; in general the menu has some Asian fusion feel to it. Below is what we tried: Wood Oven Roasted Brussel Sprouts (4/5) - Brussel sprouts with crispy shallots in a bed of thousand island-like sauce. Lovely and well balanced in flavors. The crispy shallots added a delicious touch. Only thing is that there was a lot of sauce for the amount of brussel sprouts. No biggie though. Patatas Brunchiatas (3/5) - Probably my least favorite dish I had. It was a fried egg with tomato chutney over a bed of curry flavored potatoes. There was also a very strong herb-like greens mixed with it. In general the flavors bear an overpowering amount of herb flavors. As much as I love potatoes I couldn't eat much of it. Fish and Chips (5/5) - Absolutely delicious. A little pricy--$19 for two pieces of fish--but absolutely worth it. The breading was so amazing crispy and the fish was perfect cooked. We liked it so much we ended up getting a second entree. The fries with homemade ketchup were also incredible. Just delicious. Bahmi Goreng (5/5) - Between this and the fish and chips it was hard to decide a favorite. This one was a spin of udon noodles stir fried in soy-sauce base with bacon and ground pork. So yummy. Really unique in flavors and just so delicious! Absolutely recommend getting it. For a restaurant in a tourist place I really did not expect the food to be so well done. How do I love thee? Let me count all the millions of ways! If you are looking for an exceptional dinner out this is your place. The food is unreal, service exception, decor warm and inviting wile still feeling private enough for a date night, never rushed or hurried from the restaurant either. Been here twice and if someone wants to pay for dinner tonight I would get in the car and head out straight away. Absolutely worth the drive. They take reservation and really recommend making one. Both times we have gone, we had to eat later in the evening as they were fully booked. Their wine list is insanely extensive. Choose the varietal you like best of all the options and go from there. Otherwise you will be trying to decide on wine for a very long time. Both times we started with cocktails and appetizers followed by wine with mains. Server had the timing exactly right with drinks and meals. For appetizers we tried pork belly with watermelon salad (crispy pork and lovely fresh watermelon, crazy combination that tastes amazing), with brussel sprouts with bacon bits and pine nuts. Both were exceptional starters and complimented each other well. We had been unsure on which second appetizer to choose and the server made the choice for us. Mains were also shared. Cod on quinoa with mussels in a coconut curry sauce... that sauce is good enough to be drunk from the bowl! Short ribs came with sweetbreads and more of a peanut style sauce if I remember. We were eventually just dipping the short ribs in the coconut curry sauce it was that good :) One day I will make it to dessert and not try and eat everything on the menu. I'm no local expert but I've got to imagine Crazy Weed is one of the more upscale restaurants in Canmore. It's hip, swank, and very contemporarily decorated. During my visit the wait staff came across as friendly, professional, and never pretentious. I was pleasantly surprised because before I walked in I really didn't know what to expect. With a name like Crazy Weed I suspected this was some type of pot-smoking hippy coffee house. Thankfully I was wrong and I was able to get some grub on before moving onto Banff. Albeit it was higher priced gourmet grub in a slower paced dining environment. Speaking of environment like I said the building itself is very contemporary decorated. That's both in the inside and on the outside. Its interior is open, airy, and split into two large rooms with a small bar in the middle. Sure prices are kinda high but I felt the quality of the food was very high as well. My "Alberta Sun Gold Lamb Rack Chops with Moroccan spice, smoky baba ganoush roasted chickpea & butternut squash fattoush with fairwinds goat feta" was actually superb. The combination of spices complemented the lamb perfectly. Bread was great too because it was served with a fine blend of olive oil and sun dried tomatoes. The first thing I was hit with was a strong smell of weed at the entrance. It's no surprise, since the place is called crazyweed. I came here on a business retreat and we spent a boatload on this meal with drinks. For this review, I will mention that the service was good and the decor was nice. Our Airbnb host recommended this restaurant so we thought we'd give it a shot since the reviews online were great. Unfortunately, in our case, we had BAD first experience. We got there and stood up at the waiting area for quite sometime. None of the waitresses even bother acknowledging us. There were a number of them passing by and would just give us a "look" and walk away. Seriously? My fiance attempted to get their attention but man, they were very keen at ignoring us. Coincidently, the "cook" came out from the kitchen and we were able to speak with him. He then informed one of the waitresses that we are in linewaiting. We finally got seated and the horrible customer service did not end there. Oh yeah! It took them forever to take our orders. Some waitresses were coming back and forth near our area but never bothered asking if we were ready to order. Again, tried to get their attention but they just acted as if you are invisible. To the management, you need to provide your employees 101 customer service course. Food is great but with the customer service you provide, people will not even bother coming back to you. read more

I picked this place on my first trip to Banff and Canmore based on other reviews and the menu (I am a huge foodie so going anywhere without research is pretty much not an option these days). I don't often comment on the decor or service because the food to me is way more important but in this case I will. The service was excellent. Our waitress was super friendly and clearly knew the menu well. The restaurant itself is absolutely stunning with floor to ceiling open windows; very modern and bright decor with huge tropical plans. The restaurant has an open view kitchen which is something I personally always love to see. The building itself is reminiscent of a modern chalet and actually has weedy grass growing on the slanted roof! Hence the name I guess. The cocktail menu looked great. I hardly ever drink so when I do it needs to be special. I had the earl grey martini. It was a tad strong for my taste but clearly was made with real earl grey tea and I loved that. The wine selection looked good too. To start we ordered the house made labneh with Za'atar fried pita wedges. This dish was great. The labneh was very delicate (although I've had softer) and came with a nice roasted red pepper, caramelized onion, and arugula salad. Great dish for sharing. The waitress also brought over the night's 'kitchen surprise' (all the tables got it). That night it was fresh baked sundried tomato foccatia wedges with parsley, chive, and anchovies butter. This was a really, really good! Words are not enough... I ordered the Moroccan chicken as my main. The waitress was smart to warn me that the olive/prune/caper sauce it came with was very salty and powerful. I wasn't intimidated by that so I ordered it anyway. The dish was amazing! Beautiful presentation and bold flavour. I do see how some people might find it way too salty though so if you're overly sensitive to the sodium content, order something else. The chicken thighs were cooked really well and the couscous was also flavourful but not at all too salty. In fact a tip would be to mix the sauce with the couscous to blend out the salt. For dessert I had the passionfruit icebox. This was a stunning dish consisting of a passionfruit semifreddo, kiwi coulis (very original I thought), some crème anglaise and a torched meringue on top. I thought this dish was very successful and tasted great. It was a very decent size too without being too huge. The other person in my party had the Thai green curry chicken. I didn't try it but he said he loved it. He also enjoyed the vanilla crème brulee (it looked extremely well executed). Overall, foodie to foodie, I would highly recommend this place. Fantastic! We got the labneh appetizer and Vietnamese meatballs to start and they were both fantastic. Also loved our mains. The lamb was beyond delicious and the short rib was incredibly flavorful as well. Everything was cooked exactly to order (we are lame and like lame cooked medium or medium well) and the server didn't bat an eye. Save room for dessert! Service was great. FIRST OFF when I booked on the 8th I was told the only reservation available was at 3:30pm it was Valentine's Day so it's understandable that it would book up fast. I called today to see if there was a chance of pushing it back an hour or two but they stated they where "fully booked" and "had a waiting list." Within 10 minutes of being sat at our very gross table, the place was empty. We were both in shock and very disappointed at this point. The only people left sitting in the dinning room where the kitchen staff who looked like they just rolled out of bed and DID NOT WEAR MASKS when sitting with each other or when walking to kitchen area to talk to other as someone in the industry this was completely unacceptable! FOOD WAS SO DISAPPOINTING!! It's so over priced, for what you get. We got the meatballs to start they were cold, burnt and had huge parts of bread crumbs that made it feel raw to eat. My boyfriend had the curry it wasn't bad to taste but it was so watery it may as well have been soup with a side of rice. I had the pasta dish, it wasn't bad but the noddles where super undercooked and the sauce was meh. I've definitely made better pasta at home for less then 36$ SERVICE. Again as someone who's been in the service industry for over 5 years I was disappointed in the level of service. When you look at the pictures online you expect the fine dinning feeling of having a good conversation or even being given recommendations but nothing short answers nothing about the server was special. No one looked like they were ready for a good day at work. At all. THE SET UP LEFT US HEARTBROKEN. I am so dumbfounded that they could post such nice pictures online and give such terrible results to there customers It was so gross and chairs were stained WILL NEVER GO BACK. The ambiance was nice and the service was good. I ordered the fish cakes and it came with a frisée salad. The salad had little red peppers all through it. I took a bite and literally burned my tongue, the one tiny bit of pepper was so hot. I could not eat my meal for 20 minutes because my tongue was on fire, and the barely-warm fish cakes made it worse. I have spent two summers in Thailand and never had that hot of a pepper, and I don't know how anyone could enjoy a salad full of them. read more

This seems like a very popular spot. It's next to a strip of businesses so there was plenty of parking. The restaurant is nicely decorated. On the night we visited, the deck area was open but it was very windy so actually quite cold inside too. They eventually closed the deck and the door and that improved our experience. We tried the coconut soup and it was very good. I had the gnocchi for dinner and I was not that impressed. My husband had the fish and it was way tastier than what I ordered. We went here for dinner for a bachelorette party with 7 people, we had a great long table in the back with plenty of pillows so you could really settle in for a great meal. The cocktail list is impressive and definitely work exploring, they also had a great wine menu and cider. Lots of beverage options for whatever it is you're looking for. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable, she provided excellent service and really helped make the evening enjoyable. We shared three appetizers to start, the tartare, eggplant mezze and the pickled fried chicken. The tartare and friend chicken were amazing and everyone at the table loved them, the eggplant mezze was okay, nothing necessarily wrong with it but not that notable. Since we were heading out that evening for some more drinks the whole table settled on pizza's all around. Each pizza was really good, the crust was chewy and well cooked and the ingredients were clearly fresh and prepared with care. I can definitely see what all the hype is about. This place is delicious. What we got: Appetizers - Grilled Organic Broccoli, Wood Oven Roasted Brussel Sprouts. Mains - Pickle Brine Fried Chicken, Grilled Thai Chicken "Reinvented". Drinks - Bourbon Peach Smash First off, the appetizers were incredible. The broccoli had applewood smoked cheese (!!), lime aioli, and cheese crisp - such a nice mix of flavour and zest! The brussel sprouts didn't disappoint either - they were drizzled with a bacon jam aioli, which might have been one of the best things I've ever had. That mixed with pine nuts and lemon made it one of the best dishes I've ever had. Hands down. Next were the mains. Both dishes were exploding with interesting flavour combinations. The fried chicken skin was crispy but not oily, which went perfectly with the pickle and jalapeño cooked into it. They were served with a garlic aioli and sections of lettuce, which were made for making into wraps. The garlic aioli was especially good (I could have eaten it by itself!). I was full but left wanting more, which is always a plus. The thai chicken was again, to die for. It was served with a herb and scallion salad, which blended perfectly with the coconut and lime chili sauce that was cooked into the chicken. These were hands down, some of the best entrees I've had. She heard of it thanks to the TV show "You gotta' Eat Here". It is indeed worthy of such a piece! Top notch from the moment we walked in. Seaten next to window in "luxurious easy chair, we reveled on the view of the mountains. Started with some amazing Ginger Beer, we shared Scalops and their special grilled brussel sprouts. Both simply amazing! Our mains were Lamb and Short ribs. Before even touching our respective protiens, we found ourselves comenting that we ould make meals out of garnish alone. So well concieved and delivered! We finished up with an amazing donut and ice cream dish for dessert. Completely satisfied. Not at all on the cheap side. All told with a fair tip it was not far from $200. But really...I have payed more for less in the past. It is on par on every account in this price range and in some ways, better even. "Possibly the best dinner I've had in 10 years," said my dinner mate while explaining the meal experience at Crazyweed. Forgive the Hallmark card statement, but I agree! (although this was probably my best dinner in 2 years; but I go out for dinner a lot). My meal was frizze winter salad with roasted pecans in some kind of dressing from heaven then grilled sablefish in jasmine rice and steamed soybeans. Every. Single. Bite. Was. Excellent. My friend ordered the steak and well, just wow; this is simply the kind of steak you expect in Alberta. You may read here that the service is on the slow side. But I believe that this is an 'evening out' restaurant so I felt the service appropriate; professional, friendly and attentive without being in-your-face. Extra points to our server in particular who knew all the ingredients of each dish we were served without having to run to the kitchen to ask (I had a constant case of "OMG, what's IN this!?"). Crazyweed had come recommended by a friend, so when we were on our way to Banff this weekend we stopped here for supper. I was immediately a bit put off when as the hostess was talking to us, she stopped to answer the phone. It turned out to be a wrong number or a hang-up, which seemed worse. You have people standing right in front of you; it's rude to answer the phone in their face. She told us that the "only space" she had was out on the patio, which was fine. Seated out on the patio (although they didn't open the big umbrellas so we had the sun right in our eyes) we started to enjoy the experience. It's hard not to be happy eating at the foot of the beautiful Rockies. Service: Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful. He was the kind of waiter you could ask for recommendations and he obviously knew all of the food on the menu intimately; he told my husband that the pizza wasn't really very hot so not to be disappointed. He refilled our waters often but wasn't intrusive. Definitely five-star service from him! Food: My husband enjoyed the pizza he ordered ("Some Like It Hot"), a wood oven fired pizza with chorizo, poblano, onion and mozarella. On the advice of our server, I ordered the special which was seared halibut. He was enthusiastic about it because as he put it, fresh fish in Canmore is hard to get and quite rare - apparently so, at $36 for the plate! It was my mistake for ordering the fish (fresh fish in Calgary not being so rare, I guess I have higher expectations). It's not that the fish was bad - it was cooked well, tender, and flaked just so, but overall the portion of vegetables was pretty small and I found myself thinking, "Is that it?" If we went back I'd order the pizza or something else and save my seafood excursions for other trips. We had the "chocolate babycake" for dessert. It wasn't bad, but a bit dry, and the house made ice cream had big chunks of ice crystals in it. Other: The door that leads between the patio and restaurant itself is cramped and to go in the front door you need to squeeze by a huge potted plant. Flow of traffic is not their specialty here. The washrooms were clean, although the paper towel dispenser in the ladies' is positioned so that you want to snatch one quickly and then back up to avoid getting an unexpected door in the face. Overall: Crazyweed wasn't bad, and I might go there again if I find myself in Canmore, but I don't feel it warrants a special trip. Food was great. Kitchen is a bit on the slow side. It was good as a tourist stop. But if I were to pass by again , I'll try somewhere else.

My first impression of this place was 'crazyweed'? Who names their restaurant like this? But the name doesn't matter because the restaurant had a pleasant patio and the ambience is very relaxed and inviting. They had a great wine that I enjoyed so bonus points. We started off with some raw oysters. 1 word, delish! Then quickly ordered another dozen because it wasn't enough, well you can never have enough of raw oysters. We ordered scallops and halibut ceviche as appetizers and let me tell you the halibut ceviche was to die for. I've never eaten rare halibut but the simple olive oil and lime gave it a burst of flavor, along with this special nut that gave it a crunch and kick in the end. The avocados blended well with the halibut and the dish was just simply stunning. A must try! The scallops on the other hand was decent. It comes with a bed of watercrest salad, might be a little bitter for your liking. But on the other hand, the scallops were cooked to perfection. It had a nice crust but still translucent in the inside. You don't want overcooked scallops! My experience so far is off the roof. Let's see how the main course turned out. We had clams linguini and ribeye steak. The clams from the pasta just melts in your mouth. It was soaked with the pasta sauce which made the texture dissolve just like butter. The pasta was a disappointment. It was way too overcooked. Definately not al dente. Almost like the pasta you get from the can, very soft and mushy. So that ruined the dish. Lucky the server was aware and took it off the bill. The ribeye steak was another disappointment. We asked for medium rare but it was more on the medium side and the cut was very chewy and definitely not top grade. I didn't like their selection of desserts but we ordered the lemon merigue anyways to try. I know desserts are suppose to be sweet, but this was way too sweet. It tasted like pure sugar. There was no richness to it. Another fail! It's too bad the main course and dessert was a disappointment or else I would give it 4 stars.
