Eclectic, inventive menu with something for everyone. Great location in the heart of Cranmore near Safeway and easy parking and a great outdoor space. Great for an intimate dinner or a group affair. Big focus on an extensive drink menu. Service was very polite and food came out hot and delicious. We received much less attention than those who ordered alcohol - 2 couples near us ordered cocktails and wine respectively and they had near-constant attention from the waitress. Our only drink order was iced tea and not once were we asked for a refill or another - we only saw our waitress for our check after ordering. Typical for an alcohol focused place but a minor issue. The food was terrific - the beet salad was sooooo good! We had the salmon and the Thai chicken. The flavors of each were fabulous. Good sized portions. Superb. A family-run place with five-star food and service. The restaurant has a casual, classy vibe, but it really shines when the food arrives. Every dish and drink was five stars. I generally don't like writing bad reviews, but after reading the multiple star reviews, we decided to give the restaurant a try on our first day in Canmore/ Alberta as part of a weeklong trip. The experience unfortunately left my group avoiding Canmore/ Canmore restaurants for the remainder of our trip. Overall - Service from our server was average in some instances and below standard in others. - Service from other members - hostess and busser were good and friendly. - Food was slightly above average overall, some good, and some average. But no food is worth subpar service in my opinion. - If we had another server, or even the busser for the entire service, I think it could've easily been a 4 star review. ==== The Good - We didn't have a reservation on a Friday night and the hostess was kind enough to make room for a group of 4 after a 15 minute wait, which we appreciated. - It was slightly busy and while the hostess was not at the stand when I arrived a server informed me she would be right with me. - The steak and squash were good. One of the only highlights of the evening. - The Chef's Curry was average, a little light on the taste, okay for a member of our group, but I found it slightly towards the bland side. - Our water was refilled, by the busser who was friendlier. The Bad - Service from our server was like a rollercoaster - friendly in some instances and almost rude at other times. - While it was slightly busy, there were times when she should've checked on us, but didn't even after eye contact was made in comparison to many other restaurants. She wasn't busy enough to not check on other tables. - While we were discussing the menu and waiting to order (we waited quite a while for the server to come back after dropping off the menu), she rushed over, reached over a member of our group's arm and grabbed the cocktail menu without asking if we needed it or apologizing or saying anything and rushed off to drop the menu off to another table. - We waited longer and when she returned, she did not ask if we were ready, she did not greet us, we just told her our order while she wrote it down. - It was at this point when we decided to "gently" inform her of our displeasure by asking her for the cocktail menu and that we had some questions for her before she previously took it away. - Food came slowly with no indication or communication from our server. - After the food arrived, and after we gently informed our server of our displeasure, she did seem slightly friendlier. - When we asked about adding to our order later, our server indicated that it's a bit too late (kitchen closed), but added that she would check. She never came back to us after that with a response. We understand that it's late and the kitchen probably closed, but if she offered to check, then she should be returning to let us know. To be honest, I really wished I didn't give the amount of gratuity I did. I can't remember the last time I regretted my decision on the gratuity amount as much as I did later that night after I left the restaurant. It's left such a sour taste out our mouths that we ended up eating in Banff the next night and making our own food the night after. While it may be a single individual and a single incident, we lost our interest in staying, dining and exploring any other part of Canmore. If anyone asks me, the restaurant is definitely not one I would recommend and I regretted not picking another restaurant that night. read more

We are back after what seems to be an eternity at this wonderful place in Canmore. We started our meal with an awesome Thai carrot soup. The soup was mildly spicy with delicious subtle flavour undertones. My wife followed her soup with perfectly prepared ribs and fries salted with kosher salt. My daughter and I had Thai chicken curry with basmati rice and naan bread. Delicious curry worthy of a master chef. My daughter and I shared a chocolate buddino for dessert. A highly satisfying meal as near to culinary perfection as possible. I have had Thai curry in Thailand and I can compare. And the mountains were spectacular. My most recent visit to Crazyweed did not meet the expectations of memories I had here. I hyped it up quite a bit to my girlfriend so after our average meal I was left kind of disappointed. I will say if I could give it 3.5 stars I would. We ordered the Brussel Sprouts, Tartare, Ahi Tuna, and the Calamari. I personally thought the Tartare was easily the best dish of the bunch and my girlfriend preferred the Ahi Tuna. I went on and on about the Calamari before we got there, saying that it was the best I had ever had but it turned out to be much more bland than previous memories. Also the Brussel Sprouts were just average. I'd probably go back when I'm in Canmore just because from what I remember it's usually better than what I experienced this time around. We dined at Crazyweed because there were so many great reviews. However, service was lacking. The wait staff never came by to refill waters. We only saw them when they took our orders, when they delivered food, and when we asked for the bill. During our stay here, one of the wait staff came by and turned on the steamer on the coffee machine. Since we were sitting in front of the machine, the machine sprayed a bit of water and mist on us. The staff seemed oblivious to what had happened. The food was good, but overpriced. The vegetarian bibimbap was good. It contained a lot of the same ingredients as regular bibimbap, but contained lightly fried tofu. It was definitely spicy. At $22, I was hoping the portion would be bigger. The house ground brisket burger was tasty. All of the ingredients went well together and I enjoyed the side of cauliflower. read more

The reason why this restaurant is called Crazyweed is because of the crazy weeds on the roof of the building! I was pleasantly surprised by the food here, came with a large group (we made a reservation previously and were seated pretty quickly). We ordered an array of appetizers: the salt n pepper calamari, the fried chicken, ahi tuna ceviche, the Israeli caprese. All were distinctly different in taste and very fresh! For the entrees, among our table, we ordered the Arctic char, the double seared pork chop, the shrimp toast and the pizza. I have to say, what they really do well here is their sauces- many of them were light and fresh (like the lemon/dill sauce for the fried calamari and chicken), some were lightly curried (as with the Arctic char). The double thick pork chop... and yes it was double thick and cooked to perfection...smoked and pan seared. Then the remainder of the dish included...sweet potato & chorizo scrapple with lime aioli slaw. I had trouble mixing the slaw on the top and the sweet potatoes/chorizo scrapple. The scrapple mix was like a separate meal, but the sweet potato chunks and pork chop was a nice combination. Similarly the slaw was excellent slathered on top and went nicely with the pork chop too. We had heard from locals and yelp that Crazyweed was a great restaurant. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent. We had the labneh appetizer. Excellent! Fresh and really interesting tastes with the walnuts, honey and eggplant on pita. The gnocchi was also excellent and vegetarian. Also the grilled Thai chicken, which my bf said was probably the best chicken he's ever had. Great but overwhelming wine selection. Luckily the server was able to get a really good recommendation from the bartender and we were pleased with our wine. Service was good. I had the up beet salad which was super tasty, but it was about three beets, a slice of orange very little goat cheese, with some vinegar at dressing. For $17 I would've expected at least double the size. Hubby had A large pork chop which was delicious surrounded by about six small cubes of potato. Again, for $38 I would have expected more. The food was fresh, and came out fairly quickly. The server was slow and didn't pay much attention to us at all. The restaurant itself is quite nice, and a comfortable atmosphere. The reason for the one star drop is the cocktail menu, which was simple and didn't wow (especially compared to the food menu). Food: Myanmar fish cakes (great flavour and spice within the garnish), Thai chicken (THE BOMB; definite recommend for the Asian inspired chutney and juicy chicken), Arctic char (great; also recommend), and a side of Brussels sprouts (not blanched enough; still overly crunchy, but a nice sauce to accompany it). We were a group of 4, and were seated right away, ordered drinks and appetizers ( soup and fries) which all came in a timely fashion..... but then we waited for 2 hours for our main course ( we had ordered small plates for our main course) so don't understand why it took 2 hours ...then received burned flat bread with the labneh, so returned it and asked for more and received burned flatbread again. The food overall was decent but not worth the price or a 2 hour wait. 2 of us had the labneh, one of us had the ceviche, and one had the masala ribs.. Our dinner here was during Covid on a Friday night without a reservation. I was happy they were able to get us a table. I'll start with what was good... The aroma was what drew us in on our walk by. I was convinced that what I was smelling was fries, so I ordered them as an appetizer as well as the Pani Puri. The waitress had great energy, (the hostess felt busy or annoyed). I was really looking forward to both, but the fries had the consistency of 20 minute old McDonlds fries. Maybe these dishes are good fresh and hot, but I would choose any fresh fast food fries over these. Pani Puri was just a mediocre in its flavor and temperature, although the presentation was attractive. The waitress recommended the Thai Chicken and we also had the gnocchi. The main courses took a very long time, strange considering it was about 30% full due to Covid seating. When they arrived the gnocchi was hot, but the Thai chicken was only warm. My guess is the gnocchi was forgotten or burned and the chicken sat waiting for it to get rushed to come at the same time. I'd highly recommend the Thai chicken hot, but I didn't want to wait longer for mine to be redone, so while the flavor was excellent, the moderate temperature took away from the experience considerably. Each of the main dishes were $30. For comparison the Thai shrimp dish at Earls is $22. While our experience is likely not reflective of most, I couldn't recommend based on ours. read more

Amazing food and service. I went with a group of girls on a Friday night and they were able to accommodate us even though it was super busy. It took awhile to get menus but once we did the service was great. Also, they apologized for the wait which was appreciate. Really thorough wine and beer and cocktail menu. I decided on a ginger beer, one of my friends chose a highball and another chose a cocktail. We were all happy with our drinks. Our server was attentive and informative - describing the menu and asking us if we had any questions. Our water glasses were constantly being filled up. We decided to start with the labneh with zaatar and eggplant. Really loved this dish. Fresh creamy cheese with delicate eggplant and some sweetness with it being honey roasted and it paired well with the meaty walnuts. I ordered the Bibimbap which was healthy, flavourful, and filling all at once. A great choice after hiking. My friends ordered the brisket burger and the Thai chicken salad. Both enjoyed their food. For sure, the burger looked amazing, and I will try this the next time I come back here. For the quality of food, the price reflected this. Although if you are on a tight budget I would save this for a special occasion. My only complaint is that the restaurant is soooo loud when it is full. Really hard to carry on a conversation. After reading the reviews here we had the fried chicken, the labneh with grilled eggplants, and the brisket burger. For dessert we had the chocolate budino. We have cultural ties to the Middle East so the highly praised labneh with zaatar and eggplants was only good, not amazing. Would order something else next time. This was one of our favorite places we ate in Canmore and Banff! We had some ahi tuna poke which was FABULOUS, but a bit spicier than expected with the fresh chiles slices. The Labneh was the highlight of the night though, the honey roasted eggplant, zaatar, walnuts, dill, mint, lemon, grilled flatbread to spread was like a heavenly combination of flavors! I tried the Crazy Weed restaurant while my boyfriend and I were spending the weekend in Canmore. I think that this place is one of my new favorite restaurants in Canmore now. I really liked the decor as it looked very modern and fancy however not in a pretentious kind of a way. It was quite busy and I am really glad that we decided to call ahead and make reservations. When we got to the restaurant we only had to wait for about 10 minutes before we got seated. We got a nice cozy spot near some windows which was nice since it was a beautifully sunny day and it meant we got a view and natural sunlight. Taking a look at the menu, I was impressed by the food options that they had. Although the food was a little on the pricier end, I think that it was worth it for the quality and just how the menu was put together. Because we usually like to order the same stuff, honestly I think we both just got sold on the Arctic Char. The Arctic Char was pan seared with rich lemongrass coconut broth and came with bokchoy, charred finger yams and grilles eggplant.... Yes, it tasted as good as it sounded. To refresh my thirst I ordered an elderflower tonic to wash it all down with. YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because our meal was just absolutely divine, we had to end it off with dessert - it was a must! So we ordered the Chocolate Budino - it was a callebaut bittersweet chocolate, salted caramel crème fraiche! Yes fancy and ABSOLUTELY YUM!!! This dinner made my night and it made me happy. The I got the fish cakes. They were fresh but also way too salty. I actually wouldn't recommend this place considering that service was slow (but also friendly) and the prices were high. Came here while staying in Canmore. Our host at our Airbnb recommended it and the reviews looked great so we decided to give it a shot. We came for dinner on a Sunday night. Ambiance: We walked in and it looked upscale, clean, and was also very busy. There is a bar when you walk in with a bunch of wine bottles and alcohol and nice tables with comfy chairs. Very comfortable inside! Service: No complaints about the service here. Our waitress made sure to check up on us enough. The food took about 45 minutes to come out though. Food: We started with the potatoes bravas appetizer which had good flavor and a little spice to it. Overall, these were good and a pretty big portion for an appetizer. For my entree I got the salmon which came with tomatoes, green beans, and potatoes. The presentation was beautiful!! The salmon really had no flavor at all, was probably the worst salmon I've ever had and I've gotten salmon at a lot of places and make it myself better. When I was eating it I got a mouthful of bones that stabbed my cheek and had to run to the bathroom to spit it out. Also, the middle of the salmon wasn't cooked properly and was basically mush. Considering this was the most expensive meal on the menu, it should be the best tasting too.. but sadly this wasn't the case :( I really wanted to like this place.. but the food really didn't impress. read more

A local told us about this restaurant. On our way back to Calgary we decided to stop in Canmore and give it a try. My dad wasn't really impressed. My husband and I thought it was ok. I was a bit disappointed in the service. We weren't dress that well as we had just finished a hike but the server acted like we were homeless. We were in shorts and t-shirts. I was hoping for a better experience based on the local recommendation and as it was our last meal of the vacation. It does appear to be a place a lot of local frequent. At here a while back (August 2019), very nice place and would definitely go back when in town. Go the beef tartare (good), the artic char (really good!), and another fish that doesn't seem to be on the menu (maybe it was a special that night?) - all this and a nice bottle of wine for ~$200 was well worth the trip. Cool ambiance too, and despite it being on the "outskirts" of town in the main dining room you can get really nice views (to the west and south). read more

We had a very poor experience last weekend. We had made a reservation for 845pm and would just be coming into town right in time. While driving there we received a phone call at 7pm asking if we would like to come in earlier. We explained the situation and they were fine. As we drove to our reso, coming in a few minutes late we received multiple phone calls being extremely rude and asking us to order over the phone as their kitchen closed at 9pm. If you are going to take a reservation at that time you should notify your guests that. If you classify yourself as a fine dining restaurant you also know you're not coming in to rush through your experience. Not upon reservation or the earlier call at 7pm were we notified of the kitchen closing time and were treated as if we were inconveniencing them... not the way you want to operate a restaurant. read more

Absolutely loved this place! We stopped by on our way to Banff and it was the best decision ever. Right away I loved the ambience and relaxed atmosphere. The place was full on a weekday during lunch and I took that to be a good sign. :) What we had: Yam Patatas Bravas: Yummmmm Bahmi Goreng: The best dish on the table hands down! Chef's Curry (Pork Shoulder Curry with Jasmine Rice): Extremely flavourful and unique in taste. Smoked Meat Sandwich: It practically melted in my mouth! So good! Fish and Chips: I know... how good can it be... pretty darn good if it's the kind that didn't leave you feeling greasy or heavy afterwards. Came here first thing (11:30) during the week. I've tried to come before on the weekend and it was full. Our server was friendly and the service was good. I struck up a small conversation with our server, and found out he came from France. He's been in Canmore for 7 years and by the sounds of it takes advantage of the great outdoors. Now on to the food. We shared the calamari which was pretty good and came with a lemon dipping sauce. He told me what was in it, but I forget lol. We also shared the burger which was tasty and juicy. Getting a burger might not be the best way to guage a restaurant's skill. They have a lot of tasty looking food here, judging by the pics from other Yelpers. I guess some if the pics of food are no longer on the menu. I'll come back and try something other than a burger down the road. I had the Vietnamese meatball sandwich, which was decently portioned but offered nothing novel over the typical $10 version you can find throughout Calgary. My wife had the fish and chips, which while delicious, was overpriced for the portion size (get two pieces, it's worth the extra $4). And again, I've had similar for cheaper elsewhere. For the most part, drinks and food were simply too expensive for the quality and portion size, but admittedly it was fresh and tasty all around. We tried to get into The TroUgh and were turned away because we didn't have a reservation. The hostess said to us...."for this restaurant, you need a reservation". Oh please..... After being turned away, we drove to Crazyweed. Luckily there was a spot at the bar otherwise they would have turned us away as well! What's up on Canmore?? And we were still early dining. Anyway, the food here is outstanding and very inventive! We had the salt and pepper Calamari, chimichurri pork bellies, and the pear/stilton pizza and all was excellent. And the wine was reasonable with a good variety of choices. Finally...a good dinner on our trip to Canada!! The service was quick and efficient; the atmosphere is nice and open. I was really excited to try this place because of all the great reviews on here but I was disappointed. I ordered a buddha bowl which has brown rice with potatoes, brussel sprouts, kale, peanuts with a yogurt sauce dressing that was not very pleasant to smell. The rice was cold and so were the potatoes and overall the dish was healthy but not yummy. My friends tried the thai chicken and the mushroom pizza which was much better. The chicken was soft and marinated well. The mushroom pizza had three different types of mushrooms with spinach and cheese on top which was delicious as well. Overall, this place was a bit more hyped up than it should be for the food that I ate.
