I'll start by saying this Cracker Barrel is average. The positive side is the storefront offers a wide selection of items and presents very well for their merchandising. As to the restaurant they were out of stock of multiple staple items, for instance they were out of hamburger meat. The fried okra was Bland and the meatloaf was dry but flavorful. The mashed potatoes were good however a little under temperature. Lastly the cornbread and biscuits were good, but it would be nice if the butter was not cold as that makes it hard to spread. I've dined at Craker Barrel restaurants across the country for years as we travel in our RV. Easily over one hundred times over the last forty years, maybe more. Always with an eye open for the familier sign along the highways and biways, i no longer require a menu to order from, but my meal on 07/14/2025 at store #CB0274 in Pearl, MS was possibly the worst dining experience I've ever had anywhere, at any eatery....and that says a lot. Seated at table 343, our server, Lauren R, took our order and hurried off. While waiting for our meal she returned to refill my coffee and spilled it over the table while eiither not noticing or not caring, and didn't apologize or cleanup the spill...she just walked away. I had to request napkins from another server to mop it up. The wait for food was almost 20 minutes, but she brought out my biscuits and gravy without any silverware, and though I asked for it, she didn't bring any to out table for 10 minutes. By the time our food arrived the gravy was cold, just a hard lump of flour and milk in a bowl. I asked for more, but it never arrived. It gets worse. I almost always order the Southern Fried chicken..4 pieces of heaven, but she brought me another order consisting of two pieces of breaded chicken breast. Dry white meat. I informed her of the mistake and she told me they were out of the Southern Fried Chicken...which surprised me greatly. She went back into the kitchen and because it had taken so over long to be served, I started eating. Then Lauren returned and said the cooks were now making it, and if I wanted what I had originally ordered she would put the order in, but it would be 15 minutes or more. By now we had been inside the restaurant almost an hour, waiting to be seated, and then waiting for our meal. On the road, with miles to go, I declined and asked for the check. Our meals cost $31.87 which i would have normally happily paid, but this time I grudgingly paid it, but told the lady at check out about our experience and that I would not include a tip, as the service was horrible. After waiting 25 minutes to be seated, I waited another 10 minutes before being asked if someone was helping me. It went down heel from there. I asked for a hot chocolate with whipped cream and some water and placed my order. I got my hot chocolate, but with no utensils on the table. The waitress returned 10 minutes later to tell me that they didn't have what I ordered, so I changed it and asked for a spoon for my hot chocolate. 10 minutes later, she returned without a spoon and told me that they were out of grits. By then my hot chocolate was cold and the whipped cream had melted (still no utensils). She returned to tell me that they were out of grits, so I ordered wheat toast to go with my now scrambled eggs and sausage (still no utensils). She FINALLY came with my food 15 minutes later, but with white bread toast. When I was able to get her attention again, I asked her if they had wheat toast, she apologized for bringing the wrong toast and offered to bring the correct toast or some grits since they had some more. I declined because then my food would be cold waiting. She brought the grits right out but still no utensils. By the time I got utensils, my eggs were cold and I sent my COLD untouched hot chocolate back. I ate and asked for the check. She brought the check and was kind enough to tell me that she didn't charge me for the white bread toast that I didn't order nor eat! I asked her to remove the hot chocolate charge since I didn't drink that either. She was sweet but the most essential skill in costumer service is communication AND active LISTENING. My husband and I visited this restaurant this past Friday evening. We arrived around 7:45 pm and it was busy. I walked up to the front and gave my name to the friendly employee. He told me it would be a 15- 20 minute wait and that I would receive a text when it was ready. Sure enough, I got the text about 11 minutes later. After looking over the menu, we ended up ordering: Fish Fry Friday Meal, $13.99 prior to tax- I ordered the steak fries and broccoli for choice of sides. The broccoli was overly cooked where it was too soft and overpowered by some kind of lemon sauce that made it unpleasant. The fish itself was fine. Skillet Sirloin Steak Sampler, $15.79 prior to tax- My husband picked the fried chicken tenders and the hash brown casserole & fried apples for the sides. The hash brown casserole was not good and was not even warm when it was brought to the table. The fried apples tasted apple filling. My husband had his steak cooked medium rare. It wasn't that good but that is to be expected at a place like this. Take Home Meal Grilled Chicken, $5 prior to tax- This is supposed to served chilled so that you can reheat it at home. This meal is also supposed to come with mashed potatoes. Our server brought us a fried chicken meal instead and it was hot. This was consumed the next day and it was just average. The mashed potatoes were disgusting. They tasted like they were made with water instead of milk and butter. They had a weird off taste to them and so we threw them away. Take Home Meal Meatloaf, $5 prior to tax- This is supposed to served chilled so that you can reheat it at home. This meal also comes with mac & cheese. This slice of meatloaf was actually pretty thick and a great amount for the price, a good deal. The meatloaf itself tasted okay. I liked the mac & cheese, although I don't know why there was bread in it. --------------------------------- (Total= $43.76 after tax, prior to tip.... which I do regret giving tip) Our server (whom I do not know his name) took our order on the tablet. He apologized for taking so long and then walked away when he was done. However he walked back to us to ask my husband about the entrée he ordered and then we waited a long time for our food, which took over 40 minutes (yes that's not a typo, I have photos on my phone that an verify the time). I had to ask our server for condiments and our biscuits, as none of these things were brought out to us with our meal. The server never apologized for the long wait time for our meal and did not check up on us during the time we waited for our food. With our meals, our server gave us our bill. Our server never came back to our table so I had to ask another server if he could get our server regarding the bill because I was charged for loaded fries that I did not order, nor did I receive. I also did not see a charge for the take home meals that I had ordered with the server. He took off the bill and brought us a new bill that had our take home meals on it, although was not correct. But after being at the restaurant for over an hour, my husband did not want to have the server fix it and delay our wait even longer. Our server told my husband that it would be okay and that our food would be ready any minute. However, we waited another 15 minutes for it to be brought out. According to the menu, the meal is supposed to be brought out cold with sides. These meals were brought out hot and without sides. My husband asked the server where were the sides? He then asked us what sides did we want. My husband said he just wanted the sides that comes with the meals. We waited another 5 minutes for the sides (which again were served hot). Our dining experience took over 90 minutes, which is inexcusable. There was no need for us to wait over 40 minutes for our food. It was frustrating that our server had made very little effort to fix the problem and never acknowledged his mistakes and errors. Based on the many Yelp remembers before me, it takes an incredibly long time for an order to come out and the quality of the food is subpar. Went for fish and chips. They have them but the breading was overwhelming and crunchy and not very hot. The tarter sauce was loaded with sugar and you could actually pour it like salad dressing. We swore off eating at Cracker Barrels when we travel after several bad experiences in Slidell, LA, Mobile, AL, and Durham, NC. However, it's been a couple of years and we're in Jackson (Pearl), MS. When we got the order, which was a Thursday Turkey special, the turkey was tough and the promised cranberry sauce was missing. On a positive not, the green beans were delicious...cold, but delicious. The other was pot roast since for some unexplained reason "roast Beef" is no longer available.(?) Allegedly, the lengthy delay of receiving the order was that they were struggling with the pot roast. Seriously? How big was that fight? In any event, since that was the last thing prepared, you would have thought it's be at least war... uh, no. It was cold. Finally, when did you change the recipe for your corn bread? it used to be wonderfully savory. Now it is sweet corn cake and not the "Mom's" cornbread that has always been advertised. sweet corn cake is not the same as savory corn bread. I asked how long we would have to wait before we could be seated. She said 10-15 more minutes. I'm sorry they were short-staffed, but it looks as if they had as many employees there as there were customers. This has happened at this location before. It's a shame that most people who experience this will choose to not go back. Long time Saturday morning dine in & Wednesday night take out favorite - the kids have called this the biscuit store since they learned to talk. I feel like this place has been a staple as the kids grow up. They get behind with their popularity and the number of waitstaff, but they always try hard - so either go early before the crowd or go knowing a little patience is worth the wait. I also take advantage of their virtual waitlist during peak times like Saturday mornings. I love all the changes they have made to make take home meals an easy thing for families. Plus the buy one now take one home for $5 is great for lunch the next day. Today the kids split a grandpas country fried platter with chicken fried chicken & I had a country boy platter with steak tips. Most everything was delish as always. I wasn't a fan of the change from sirloin steak to steak tips. They were a bit rubbery in texture. The hashbrown casserole was best ever though, I think they took out the onions. So everyone is up in arms over the new Cracker Barrel logo. I am much more concerned about the sharp decline in food quality. We have been loyal CB customers for years and years. Absolutely every time we travel and a CB is available, we stop there. This summer was one of those times. We both said at the time that we were very disappointed. And this was early summer, before All of this hoopla. We had to ask twice just to get biscuits and cornbread, and biscuits were flat and smaller. The chicken and dumplings tasted awful and the tater tot casserole had changed for the worse. Why do this when customers won't come back? I think you need to double down on food quality and customer experience, and stop focusing on stupid stuff like changing a logo customers love. It does not make any sense. I've never left a review in my life. BUT this has to be the WORST service and FOOD experience I have ever had!! I love cracker barrel but this one is terrible. We asked for biscuits and corn bread first and ofc like many people it doesn't come in until you get your food. Even after asking politely reminding multiple times. Tables around us were getting baskets w biscuits and corn bread first after being there 35 min we finally got JUST biscuits on a plate despite everyone else's in a basket ( which is irrelevant) but helped us quickly realize that our biscuit had been reheated. They were wrinkly and it was super obvious they had been reheated. Then our food comes out right after we get the long awaited JUST biscuits and the food and very very obviously reheated! The hash brown casserole was hard and had crispy Burnt pieces on the top (indicating it was heated on the plate) the chicken was cold and also showing signs that it was reheated (which to me is very easy to tell) lastly the okra also had definitely been reheated as it was chewy. I have never experience such poor customer service. Attempting to place an order to go: I drove from Clinton to Pearl, on hold to place an order with the Kitchen. After being transferred 6 times to only be disconnected, calling back 4 additional times of which a person answered then disconnected the call. I arrive, with my phone still on hold with the Cracker Barrell hold music playing on my speaker. The manager is exiting the door with a customer with a large order, he returns to retrieve the remainder of the large order that would not fit on a rolling cart. I am assisted by the cashier and directed to the hostess counter. I stand an additional 10 minutes before being assisted. There are approximately 12 cars in the parking lot and workers moving about. Not busy, it is 8:30 am. My order is finally taken, I am told it will be a 20 minute wait. I return inside to do a second order, same poor service took 10 minutes for someone to exit the kitchen. That person then proceed to seat waiting customers and then take my order. Meanwhile, manager walks by nonchalantly and go to the back. I hope the food is worth the wait and better than the service. Very disappointing. We frequent Cracker Barrel at home on the Gulf Coast and typically are very satisfied with the service and quality of food. This was not the case at this location today as we were in town near Jackson for a Christmas event. When we were initially sat at a table there was food all over the floor which we waited to be cleaned standing awkwardly near the table. My daughter ordered chocolate milk and was given 2 half pint cartons to pour herself. She was also informed that they had no chocolate chips for her pancakes. The creamers for our coffee on the table were all used. After returning the chocolate milk she decided to try the holiday hot chocolate. She was given the condiments to decorate it herself and had no peppermint cane as shown in the picture. She said it tasted like hot water with chocolate syrup mixed in. The biscuits were undercooked and barely warm. We had to ask for napkins and knives because none were provided with our food. The food took 45 minutes after we ordered and this was with several empty tables around us. Overall very unhappy, will not revisit this location. read more
