These ladies deserve more than 5 stars. We arrived late and didnt dress appropriately because it was way colder than we thought. They gave my husband a jacket and all of us gloves. Liz was wonderful as both of my kids had never been horseback riding. She was patient and positive. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for horseback riding in Blue Ridge. Important note. You have to arrive 45 minutes prior to arrival which I didnt realize until it was too late. Makes sense though as you have to get fitted for your horse! read more

I'm lucky enough to live up this way, and even though my daughter takes riding lessons at another stable, she always insists we book a ride at cowgirl up, at least once a month! We absolutely love the whole staff. From Magan, Liz, Brett, Kate, Isreal, EVERYONE is absolutely amazing and most importantly knowledgeable and experienced! No matter how many times you go, it NEVER gets old, and you learn/notice something new every time! What is most impressive is how well these horses are cared for and loved! You can tell from their personalities to how they ride, that they love the trails and people almost as much as we do. If there was a ten star option, I'd be clicking that. Cowgirl Up Stables are located in the Blue Ridge Mountain town of Cherry Up, Georgia. Friends and I, all greenhorn, first-time horse riders, selected the hour long "Novice Ride" package. The very friendly staff selected horses for everyone, and a quick lesson on mounting, riding and bridle usage was given. Staff member Kelly was designated as our guide, and we proceeded on a one-hour picturesque ride through the nearby pastures and creeks. The mountain scenery was stunning, and we were able to meet other families and horses from the local area. Kelly ensured that our safety was never in danger, and also volunteered to take group pictures of everyone on their horses for posterity. From the novice to the expert, Cowgirl Up Stables is able to provide you with an excellent horse-riding experience. My husband has more experience with going on trail rides and he found this place with much research. This was my daughter and I first trail ride. From the start my husband was put at ease with the staff. Katie, Dan, and Aaron was very professional and thorough with their explanation. I felt safe and so was my daughter when Katie explained what the expectations of how these horses behave. Thunder's girlfriend Mia and princess were very calm and we had a great time with the trails. The weather was perfect and we got to experience how the horses go through plain grounds, muddy paths, and thick forestry. Overall, this will be our new go to spot every winter season. This was our second visit to CowGirl Up Stables and each time, our family had a pleasant experience. We first came last year during spring break and enjoyed it so much we did a repeat this year. We paid for a private one hour novice ride, arrived on time, signed the waivers and were given a safety breifing. Our children were sized for helmets that were cleaned. The staff was so pleasant they linked us back up with our friends from last years trip. We again enjoyed riding with the sisters Maggie & Marley. My daughter rode Dasiy, who has also grown in the last year. Lakota was the only male and a little stubborn. My son had to give him some extra nudges. Most of my family had only ridden once before, and she made sure that we all had clear instructions for the different points of the ride, like while crossing the stream and while trotting, as well as horse-specific tips for each of us according to the personality of the animal we were riding. Scheduled a ride for 3 of us online. Getting through on the phone was difficult but it was right before Christmas so expected. I ended up booking online. Staff was really nice and courteous. The morning of our ride was freezing the ladies loaned us jackets and sweaters for our ride (suggestion please sell sweaters and shirts). Our guide Dan and Honey were amazing. All were very knowledgeable about the horses and put your mine at ease especially if it was your first time riding. The are well taken care of and they behave so well. Our guide was Brett and we came for our 2 year anniversary on September 21 2024 first thing in the morning and he is an INCREDIBLE guide.

I'm sure the experience is lovely and that most of the staff is wonderful but one employee in particular is extremely rude. I made a reservation online and chose the wrong day which is completely my fault. I was doing it in a rush with poor reception in the mountains and I chose the wrong date and accidentally chose the week after our vacation. I did call and leave a message the week prior. But I got a call today from someone that was intended to make me feel stupid. After I profusely apologized, they mentioned that it was stupid to not have read the email thoroughly. I never requested a refund. All I did was apologize for my mistake and the inconvenience. And the level of attitude and unprofessionalism I received on the other line was astonishing. Cowgirl Up, again, I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused but please train your staff how to deal with mistakes that happen when running a business rather than leaving your potential customer in tears. read more

TL;DR Perfect for families with young children. I wouldn't recommend for adults or teens. I was scrolling things to do in the area and saw this stable. I hadn't been riding since college, and it sounded so pleasant to go for a ride in the beautiful mountains. Even better, they are women-owned! I was excited to see an intermediate level since trail horses are pretty slow and boring --at least that was my recollection from early childhood when my mom would take me to one of those places on family vacations. Sadly it turned out to be a very painfully slow beginner ride. Less than 15 minutes in, I was dying for it to be over. It was a mostly flat, slow walk in a large loop in the hot sun. No mountains, no woods, and only crossing the tiniest, most shallow little stream you ever saw. The ride didn't even get up to a trot. It could be due to others in the group. The family in the group who "did this all the time" appeared to have never seen a horse before, and had both a very little boy who struggled to control the horse well and a mom who was too afraid to hurt the horse to properly guide or direct it. For your safety and the sake of other people, don't overstate your experience level. They clearly care for the animals because the horse I rode far exceeded the normal lifespan of a horse. Still a beauty. A stubborn, old beauty, but I'm old and crotchety too. The very nice people from the stable contacted me offering another ride since I didn't seem to enjoy it. That was very kind but I wasn't going to be able to carve out the time, and if I could have, wouldn't want to do it again. 2 stars for my experience, but 4 for what it really is: tail horses for kids. read more

Absolutely phenomenal! My family and I went with the one hour "intermediate" ride. Our ages ranged from 11 to 50 years old and we all had a great time. I will admit, having not been on a horse in over 12 years I was quite nervous but the ride was extremely manageable (even for my 11 year old sister who had only ever ridden once before.) Our guide Nancy deserves ALL the praise. She was incredibly personable, knowledgeable, and kept us all safe and comfortable on the ride. The horses are obviously well cared for as well. What a FANTASTIC afternoon at Cowgirl Up Stables! We arrived and were quickly welcomed and processed through the required/obligatory paperwork. We then had a nice chat about the horses, learning their names and getting paired up with our mounts. Seeing as how there where 8 of us this went really smoothly. All the horses had great temperaments and were eager to get us in and out on the trail. As a horse owner myself I can tell you these horses are loved and cared for as if they were a members of the family. We frequently take advantage of opportunities to ride when away from home, in other parts of the country, like here in Northern GA. We've seen trail ride companies all over the south and mid-west. That said NONE of them had mounts which were as well maintained, you can tell the love and care which goes into them. For these guys it is more than just keeping the engines of their business running, you can tell they care for the health and well being of their horses. After our ride we stuck around and chatted a bit about different aspects of caring for horses. Approaches to feeding, dealing with health concerns, shoeing, natural/organic fly preventions and the importance of daily care techniques. We were surprised with some of their tips and will be taking some of them home to our horses (like the use of baby-oil in their mane to make them easier to groom. There is NO DOUBT we will return to Cowgirl Up Stables when next in Northern GA. If I know my wife she will surely be planning a trip back this way JUST TO ENSURE a return visit happens in the very near future!!! read more

My husband and I had a wonderful time on our beginners' one-hour trail ride. We're in our early fifties and neither of us had ever been on a horse before; we scheduled this during our visit to Blue Ridge as something a bit adventurous that we've always wanted to do. Katie was fantastic, patient and reassuring. I never felt like any instructions were given too quickly and we were given plenty of encouragement to ask for clarification or for help with anything we didn't understand. We were offered equestrian helmets and when we accepted, we were fitted carefully for the right one. Excellent safety instructions and recommendations were given all the way through. There were five in our group, from very young to... well, us, and age-appropriate guidance was given for each of us. We got individual and very kind assistance mounting and the saddle and stirrups were properly adjusted for us. The horses were all mild-mannered and very responsive to our sometimes awkward and tentative signals, and Katie was great about explaining the quirks of each animal's temperament that might affect our interaction with them. The trail was perfectly planned, with easy walking for us while we got used to being in the saddle, then a few little variation, like crossing a shallow stream and a venture into the woods, that made for a full and "just challenging enough" experience. Katie was never too far away, so we could call out questions or for the group to stop for any reason, and she checked in with all of us often. About halfway through, we took a break to check saddles and our bodily well-being, and for Katie to take photos of us with our phones. As nervous as I had been about being up on a large animal with a mind of its own, I never had a moment's worry and enjoyed every minute of the ride. We absolutely plan to do this again the next time we visit and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone. read more

This place was really amazing. I've only ridden a horse once and they were extremely informational and had me feeling like a pro before I even got on a horse. It's obvious that they pride themselves on safety. The trails we rode on were very nice and the horses were all great (despite shadow who was very sassy).
