What a wonderful time! We took a private ride. If possible, I would encourage this choice. The barn is immaculate. The horses are clean, well fed, & well trained. Easy tutorial for me. Trails are challenging, but as a "beginner rider", I never was uncomfortable. Sadie took great pics. Then once back at the barn she air- dropped them to my phone. Please be aware-no Fanny packs, nor purses, sunglasses are discouraged. Phones are to be put on silent and tucked in pocket. Weight restrictions for riders are strictly enforced. GPS gave good directions to business. However, I had no GPS signal for return; but had easy time back tracking. I highly recommend this business!

Went on a spur of the moment trail ride, thanks to my mane man! Hubs thought we (I) could use a change in scenery and a safe break from quarantine. He called Appalachian Trail Rides the morning of and scheduled a two-hour trail ride, $65 per person, less if you pay with cash according to their website. They'll take your card over the phone, but you pay after the ride. Our ride started at the barn. We were joined by another group. After thorough instructions from our guide, they paired us with horses and off we went. I was paired with Silver, who had the most gorgeous "silver" hair. He was wonderful, calm, and well trained. He seemed very familiar with the trail and almost didn't need "directions" from me on when and where to turn. Although he liked to stop and snack, he was easily redirected. My husband was paired with Belle, who was quite the character. She, too liked to snack and dig. Our guide took us up and down the wooded mountain. We had two opportunities to trot, which is completely optional. Our guide asked our group if we wanted to try and fortunately all of the group agreed to. That was fun! Silver loved to go fast and tried to pass other horses several times, but a simple pull kept him in line. The ride was peaceful and enjoyable. The guides were friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend Appalachian Trail Rides!

Amazing! Horses well cared for, clean, excellent staff. Trail is beautiful ! I enjoyed it!

Enjoyed this ride on a Tuesday earlier this month. My father and I signed up for a one hour private trail ride. Cody was our guide, he was funny, talkative and made sure we were enjoying the ride the whole time. We were over in Blue Ridge for a small vacation in between moving homes, he gave us some good advice of places to eat and animals to get for the farm we're planning on having soon. It was a very beautiful experience, the horses were sweet and the sights were beautiful.

Late post... our family booked a one hour horse backing ride with Appalachian Trail Rides over the Christmas break. It was Amazing! Everyone from the adults to the kids had a fantastic time. The trail was not your typical flat, boring trail that is usually the case. We went up steep hills-even through a river! Definitely recommend this company. Horses were well taken care of and the staff couldn't be more professional. Check them out if you're in the Blue Ridge, GA area.

Amazing experience!! This is really a once in a lifetime experience. This is not your typical horseback riding experience. First of all the staff provided great service. Our tour guide did an awesome job guiding our group. The horses are very well trained. But most of all the views here are unlike any, it's absolutely breathtaking. We got to see a beautiful pond with haze of fog over it. We rode through creeks. All around exceptional. Highly highly recommended.

We came yesterday and I genuinely can't stop thinking about how special it was…read more I called last minute in the afternoon after my little one woke up from his nap, not really expecting much -- but they fit us in that same day. From the moment we arrived, Ray made us feel so welcome. He had the horse ready for us, walked us through everything, and was so patient and attentive making sure my little one felt safe and comfortable the whole ride. You could tell he genuinely loves what he does. What we didn't expect was everything that came after. We got to explore the petting zoo, meet the farm animals, and then a staff member came over and introduced us to a baby goat that was only a few days old, my little one's face was absolutely priceless. And then the moment that made this visit truly unforgettable, while my son was laughing away on the horse shaped tire swing, I glanced over and noticed a wobbly little goat behind us. Turns out we were witnessing a mama goat giving birth right there in front of us. Completely unplanned, totally magical. My little one got a nature lesson he'll probably never forget. This place has the most wonderful energy and the staff clearly care deeply about both the animals and their guests. We will absolutely be back. Highly recommend!

I recently bought a horse from Curtis Teague at A Step Above Stables and am very happy with my…read morepurchase. I went and tried the horse in person and he was exactly what I wanted in a young horse. Curtis held him for a week for me until I returned back home and then had him delivered safe and sound. He is settling nicely in with my herd and has maintained the same chill demeanor each day. I can't wait to see what adventures we can do together! I think Curtis runs a great operation.

After researching for months, we finally found what SEEMED like the perfect "beginner-friendly"…read morehorse. Upon arrival at A Step Above Stables, the horse looked potentially injured, though I thought maybe it was just resting its hind leg. Until, during the demo canter, it started to buck. They called it on that horse and we agreed to look at another horse the seller had. This one didn't seem to have immediate riding problems--though they didn't demo it in a ring, which might have revealed deeper issues. This second horse would be $1000 more than our original budget of $15,000 -- he said he was going to sell it for $17,000 but was going to "meet us in the middle" to be fair. I (wrongly) assumed this horse would have the same training as the other, given they were supposedly trained by the same people and similar in price. We were also told there was a lot of interest from other buyers and to get started right away to secure this horse. We placed a $2,000 deposit that same day, with the balance due (and paid) on Monday. The seller sent a video showing the horse not spooking at a leaf blower or chainsaw sounds, so we felt somewhat reassured about its temperament. But from there, things started to get shaky: We asked for the bill of sale, coggins, and vaccine records before the horse was delivered. The seller promised to send them with the horse; instead, only the coggins arrived. He eventually sent the bill of sale via messenger--but it wasn't completely filled out. We were told the vet records would have to wait until Monday because the vet office was closed. Delivery day came and the horse was delivered to the boarding facility (a 3 hour drive from the seller) without a halter. The hauler nearly let the horse loose on the property. Thankfully, our boarder intervened. But it was obvious that something as basic as haltering this horse was a serious challenge, which is likely why the horse wasn't haltered before being put on the trailer. The horse then turned its hind toward our boarder--a classic sign of aggression or discomfort. She alerted us right away of everything going on and documented things every step of the way. After she finally managed to calm the horse, she took photos of its condition. She noted Conformation issues, A noticeable problem with one leg, a scar near the joint on the same leg We immediately contacted the seller, who claimed he was unaware of any injury and told us to inform him of the vet's findings. Only at this point did he hint at an "exchange-only guarantee," something he never mentioned earlier, even when I had outright asked about his guarantee and he had said, "We guarantee all horses for 30 days." NOT "We allow exchanges for 30 days." When the farrier and vet visited, they confirmed: The scar on the back leg was an old, unattended injury that would affect the horse's ability to be ridden safely at more than a walk. The coggins form failed to disclose the scar, which should have been noted per the form's requirements. The "vet" whose name was on the vaccine records turned out to be mostly a dog/cat vet. They said they'd only administer vaccines if the horse was brought in, which never happened. The seller apparently buys vaccines from that vet and administers them himself--yet made it sound like the vet was personally involved. We later learned the vet had expressed concerns about this horse to the seller, and the seller's response was, "That will be the buyer's problem." Once we asked for any or all of our money back, he ghosted us. In all honesty, I own my part in this: I didn't know what I didn't know. That's exactly how I got taken advantage of. I was initially swayed by positive reviews--but later realized those were mostly for the trail riding service this seller operates, not for his horse sales. Enough negative reviews exist about his selling practices to show that this is a pattern. And lastly, I did not sign anything stating I was purchasing this horse "as is"--so we do have legal grounds to pursue.

But when they moved to Georgia, I was so elated that I had to go and do another trail ride with them. The drive to Clayton was quite scenic, with lush greens and beautiful mountains to look at. It is about a 2 hour drive from Atlanta, but definitely worth it! Their new barn is in a residential area, with some beautiful trails heading to the mountains. The ride to the mountains was so peaceful and relaxing, and ability to trot and canter the horses was amazing, giving some added thrill to the ride. I was so happy to ride Tripoli again, who is a very beautiful and sweet white Arabian gelding. He was responsive to my commands, and was quite forgiving when making a mistake. While Tripoli's trots are a little bouncy (though, can be posted pretty easily), his canters are as smooth as a rocking horse. Ken is such a friendly and amazing guide. He really helps you learn how to control the horses correctly and helps the timid riders gain their confidence on the horses. While he makes safety of the horses and riders his highest priority, as long as the horses are up for it, and he find it safe to do so, he lets you trot and canter almost anytime you want (the only time when he suggested against it was going downhill for obvious reasons ;) ). The horses here very sweet, friendly, and well taken care of. They get fed twice per day, and get plenty of breaks during and in between the rides. They all love having treats, so be sure to bring carrots and peppermints. They will treat you even extra nice if you bring those. :) The cost of the ride is $50 for a 1.5 hour ride if only a single person is riding, or $40 per person if 2 - 4 people are riding. The ride is indeed private, with no other strangers riding with you. It is worth every penny and I can't wait to go back to Georgia and ride with them again soon!
