I am ONE HUNDRED PERCENT not anywhere close to being a Cowboy, but I'll be damned if watching shows like Yellowstone on Paramount+ make me think twice about my life choices. I mean... Riding a horse on the open plains.... Wearing Levi jeans, a flannel shirt, with a big cowboy hat, a pair of cowboy boots, and rocking that big belt buckle sounds pretty cool to me. But being a Cowboy or a Cowgirl for that matter is more than just the catchy attire, it's a Lifestyle! Rooted in hard physical labor, long days, loyalty, deep respect and responsibility for the land and herding cattle are just some of the core values and responsibilities of being a true Cowboy/Cowgirl. Hell, I might not be a Cowboy, Yet... So when I ate at the Cowgirl Cafe in Downtown Paso Robles, I was on my best behavior. Located at 1316 Pine Street, this hole in the wall Cafe is where locals and visitors come together to break bread. A well themed decor diner that's open from 6am-2pm daily, The Cowgirl Cafe serves up a mean breakfast & lunch and boy did I enjoy it. 2 Eggs sunny side up, corned-beef hash, their Chef's Special Home Fry Potatoes, a side of toast, & a cup of coffee... All served with that hometown, local hospitality from our server who waited on us... You know, just like a cowboy, I tipped my hat to her and tipped her very well for her excellent service. As mentioned earlier.... The Cowgirl Cafe is open from 6am-2pm daily, so for you early risers who live the Cowboy life of waking up before the Sunrise, a hot meal will waiting for you. Food: I ordered the eggs, crispy bacon with potatoes and buttermilk biscuits with gravy, my husband ordered an omelet, salad & pancake, he ate most of his food and I wish I lived closer so I could take my leftovers home, mine was 3 meals in one and delicious! This cafe is a local hotspot. You will recognize this by the fact that there are plenty of pick-up trucks out front in the morning g when most other places are still closed. Friendly is an understatement for this place. The "Howdy, come on in" invitations were abundant. The host seated us and he sweetly asked if we wanted water with our coffee. Debbie was our server and she was so pleasant and friendly, we felt like family. My husband is a picky chicken fried steak connoisseur and gave it two thumbs up here. I had two pancakes the size of a basketball. The decor is rich in western memorabilia ( as to be expected) and fun to look at as you eat. More importantly is the attitude of the place. I was in Paso Robles with my wife on the 4th of July and this was one of the few places open. It wasn't very busy despite being a holiday. We were seated right away and our server promptly brought us coffee and water. I ordered the kielbasa with eggs and my wife got the loaded potato skins. The food was good but not amazing. We were happy to have something to eat before going to Hearst Castle. It was a good option for it being our only option, but I would check out other spots before coming back here. read more

There was a short line for a table at around 10:30am on a Sunday. The only complaint my husband had was that the two tables at the back with the booths facing out had four legs. He didn't realize that and when we tried to scoot into the booth, he banged his leg really bad. Other than that, breakfast was uneventful. My husband had the Chile Verde Eggs special and my MIL had the Potato Skin & Eggs. I had two sides of a Burger Patty and a Fried Egg plus a Mimosa while my son indulged on a big Cheeseburger with Bacon and Fries. The fries were really good! He loved his burger and almost ate the whole thing. He said the had Thousand Island and was yummy. The veggies for his burger came on the side which worked out great because I was then able to eat them with my patty. Service was little hectic but given that it was the long weekend it was sort of a given. We found this place in Yelp and the food looked quite good. There was a good amount of people waiting when we arrived but it didn't take long for an outside table. Menu does have loads of all your traditional breakfast dish. Went with the special, seafood omelette. Served with the house potatoes and biscuits and gravy. As well as the classic breakfast with the eggs, sausage, bacon and toast. And over head the table ordering the French toast. Portion are big so if your hungry you're at the right places. The ladies were all very friendly and sweet. Delicious breakfast restaurant in Paso Robles, CA. Messaged for a reservation through Google as they close at 2 pm. Received message back to come on in. We were warmly greeted and allowed to choose our table. There is a parking lot across the street to accommodate our RV. We ordered two menu recommendations, the turkey bacon avocado on sourdough and breakfast special. With the sandwich several sides were offered and I chose potato salad when she said it was scratch made. It was very delicious. The sandwich also came with a pile of pickles which I liked. I ate only half of the sandwich as the portion was very large. My companion ordered the scrambled egg with biscuit and gravy and it overflowed the platter. He ate every bite and said it was incredible. Great coffee and two jumbo, housemade chocolate chip cookies to go. I was in pasó for 30 hours and had breakfast in paso in 2 different places; we had breakfast the morning we arrived and the following day just before heading out of town; I have to say, I had 2 completely different experiences for breakfast and this was by far the highlight. We were instantly greeted and seated when we walked in, we had drinks a few moments later and our food came not long after we placed our order. The portions served were well priced, a rare thing to find these days. And the food was tasty. The basics but done very well. The pancakes were not too heavy and the eggs made exactly as ordered. I ordered poached eggs the day before and was served soft boiled eggs. My partner has the biscuits with gravy and really enjoyed the dish as it can often be too salty. Looking around the establishment, you could tell the room was filled with locals and for good reason, they do the standards well. Menu had both breakfast and lunch options. We ordered from the "eggs n' such" section. Everything here came with hash browns, home fries, or grits and your choice of toast, or an upgrade to biscuits and gravy for only $1 extra! I opted for the eggs and bacon with the biscuits and gravy and my boyfriend the eggs and country patty sausage with the same. While I normally don't love sausage, that sausage patty was amazing! The bacon was good too, but I'd probably go for the sausage next time. Portions of everything were great, didn't feel like they skimped on anything, especially those biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were absolutely swimming in the gravy. Price was pretty reasonable, ended up being $50 with tax + tip for the two of us. A little more than I'd expect based on the atmosphere, but you won't leave here hungry and the service was friendly and fast. The inside had a very retro western vibe to it. My partner ordered a plate of two eggs that came with home fries and the upgrade of a biscuit (+$1). Hot sauce was hanging out on the table waiting for my plate to arrive. The biscuit was the perfect cozy blanket to tuck my eggs into. I built my sandwich and it slowly disappeared, bite by bite. We were offered homemade salsa for the home fries. Make sure and do that! Some friends and I had breakfast here today. The food was so good, but the service was terrible. There were five of us in our party and our food came out one dish at a time probably five or 10 minutes apart so by the time the first person who got their food was done eating the whole table still hadn't been served. For our party of seven, she took each order effortlessly, and had no problem adjusting when someone changed their mind to get something else. I had the chorizo & eggs with home fries, wheat toast, and a side of avocado, and coffee. The coffee was thick(!). I had it black and it was sooo smooth without being bitter. I didn't even need to add anything. As soon as it was near half, one of the waitstaff was coming around offering refills. Similar to my first visit, food was great. Cowgirl Cafe is just fine and does the job. Maybe not a ringing endorsement, but I was certainly glad they could accommodate us on a Saturday morning. The Western kitsch circa 1960 runs high here, with nonstop video from the likes of 'The Virginian' tv show, countless flags, statues, and other thematic artwork. The 'Outhouse' is just on past the swinging doors, pardner. The staff are the real heroes here. A good handful of folks are doing their best to keep the bustling diner running. It took a long time before we saw our server, and another spell before placing our order, too. But, once we ordered, the kitchen banged it out in no time. So, hats off to the staff here. My Denver omelet was a little thin but pretty good. The classic hash browns (or your choice of homefries) were great. Perfect amount of crunch was not too greasy and didn't last long on my plate. Opted for a biscuit (no gravy) instead of toast. Gotta say the biscuit was pretty limp. It broke apart before trying to put jam or honey on it. The flavor itself was almost nonexistent. I see how they do offer biscuits with gravy, and the gravy looks hearty. Maybe that would help, though I can't imagine it holding its shape then, either. Reasonably priced, decent fare. read more
