BY FAR THE MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! The host and manager did not honor our reservations. We waited an hour past our reservation time and were never seated or accommodated for the wait. My family and I eventually had to leave due to the wait. The professionalism was lacking and I would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone regardless of the view/location. read more

Fantastic restaurant with amazing views, ambience, food and drinks. We arrived at 6:30 as a party of two for my birthday dinner last night. We were told we could be seated right away, but we preferred to have a drink on the upstairs deck first. We had a wait of about 45 minutes after that. We enjoyed a drink upstairs and then went down to the outside bar. Views were amazing and the rum punch was delicious. I had actually wanted to go to Rumba for a drink first, but Cowfish has the same rum punch, so I was very happy. Once seated, everything on the menu looked and sounded amazing. I wish I were hungrier. My husband had the clam chowder and I started with a ceasar salad. My salad was probably the best ceasar salad I have ever had. My husband kept going on about the soup and even though I despise clam chowder (or any other seafood soup), I tried some just to appease him. It was AMAZING! I would honestly order it for myself the next time there, that is how good it was. For dinner, I had the salmon special and my husband had the Gibb's burger. Both were great. I think the burger was also one of the best I have ever tasted. My only recommendation would be to change the french fries to a different cut. The shoestring fries get cold almost immediately. We did not order dessert as I had no room. I cannot say enough about the views and vibe here. We will definitely be returning. read more

Fun place and good scene, service is fine, food is ok. Better for a group than a date. Menu lacks local seafood which seemed odd.

I would give this place 0 if I could. Wasn't there very long so this is my review based on service only. Called last week to make a reservation for 6 people early at 5pm as we have a baby and a small child and we were visiting for the weekend. Was told they don't take reservations and we will be fine as it's 5pm on a Sunday. Pull up at 4:45 parking lot empty, got my baby into her stroller and up into the restaurant. Place is empty with tons of open tables. Host and I'm guessing the manager proceeded to tell us 1.5 to 2 hour wait. I said your joking. There are empty tables. He tells me those are for reservations at 5:30 and 6pm and that they do take reservations. I told him I called last week and he says they just started taking reservations today??? We along with other guest in different parties walked out. Why would you turn away business. Not very smart management cause now I will never go back. read more

Our party of eight ventured over from Sag Harbor to enjoy a meal at another restaurant located on the canal. We were told we would have to wait an hour And expected that. After waiting an hour patiently, another party who had not been on the list was seated at what should have been our table. The hostess denied this But she knew she had been dishonest. She said we would have at least another hour to wait. We left. A friend of my wife's texted and said they were eating at Cowfish. She said they could sit our party of eight right away. We arrived five minutes later. The setting and restaurant were beautiful. We were seated and our server Ellen did a wonderful job Taking the orders of our five children for appetizers and dinner. My wife and I and our friend were so impressed by the service. We ordered sushi, buffalo shrimp, clam chowder, along with our entrees. NOLA shrimp, fish special, baby back ribs, burgers, salads etc The food was excellent and then we capped it all off with great desserts. Especially the Death by Chocolate and fresh fruit. So, in short, our evening started out frustrating but we left Cowfish happy and satisfied. We will definitely be back!!!! Dan Sag Harbor . read more

Wouldn't take a reservation for seven--we were supposed to just walk in on a Friday night and hope they could seat us? You gotta be kidding. I'll try this place when I'm going alone w a friend. But unless you're ten or more, they aren't accommodating to groups. Shame. read more

Their Nola shrimps are simply divine with a very well balanced sauce bursting with flavors. For dessert their skillet cookies are a must try. Like the ambience with different seating options to choose from. Love the restaurant for dining out, early cocktails or after dinner drinks as well. Service staff is very friendly and overall the place has great vibe. Hop on the tiki boat for added thrills. read more

Great local spot. Busy as hell in season but perfect just before or after the mad Hamptons rush. Right on the water. Reasonable prices. Tip: Sit at the bar outside and wait for one of the bar tables to open up, those are first come, first serve. read more

Initially we were a party of 10, but the parking lot was supposedly full - the front desk was rude and unprofessional. They had refused to seat those present (7 of us) until the entire party had arrived, this went back and forth for a while until the other 3 gave up - but our table was given away! Why should staff complain about not having the entire party present, if the table isn't even being reserved? Eventually we were given a buzzer, and even more waiting ensued... Now... on to the main course. After taking roughly half an hour to be seated (30 mins after the buzzer, one hour after our original reservation) - half of us had ordered burgers (medium rare) - which took just under an hour to arrive. Why does it take an hour to plate and serve 4 medium-rare burgers? At this point we were so hungry that anything seemed delicious - however I ate a bit slower and found a black thread in my "Shroom burger" and a body hair in the cheese. Time to re-brand or open up a new chain and call it "Thread Burger" - feel free to take all the credit for that name, you deserve it for the inspiration alone! This location needs to properly train their staff with customer courtesy (don't turn away guests with reservations because of an error on the restaurant's end) and at least some of their cooking staff with better hygiene. 2/5 stars seems a bit generous - but at least the deserts we ordered arrived quickly, but at this point ordering an ice cream and receiving ice cream soup instead would not have surprised any of us. read more

Was looking for a new place since we are out east all the time and we found it!! Outside bar is a great place to wait for table - wait was about 30 min. but didn't mind since it was a beautiful night and there is plenty of outside seating. Buffalo Shrimp appetizer is so freaking good!! I will be coming back for that alone!! I had the Nola Shrimp and hubby had the Swordfish special both were awesome!! Definitely will be back - Food is Delish!! read more

Second time coming here! Amazingly fun place to hang out, especially since wait time can be long. Food is pretty good, even though some of the dish preparations/combinations are a bit odd. read more

The food and service is pretty good, especially for a place that is usually so busy. Although this place is good, it is overrated. The food isn't always as good as everyone says it is. It is also very expensive. For a small plate of sushi, you have to pay $20. read more

Can't even explain how good the food was. My buffalo chicken app was OUT IF THIS WORLD. Great happy hour selection. Best restaurant in Hampton bays!!!!! Beautiful scenery as well. Could not have picked a better restaurant to celebrate my fathers birthday. read more

Great view, friendly staff. My husband and I dined at Cowfish last Friday, since we arrived between lunch and dinner, we were given the option to order from both menus. I ordered the Nola Shrimp, it looked great when it arrived but the reduction turned into an oily mess, too much salt. My husband had the Reuben and French Fries. It too looked great but the fries were over-salted. I would recommend for drinks and the view only. read more

Had an amazing experience last night at Cowfish, great atmosphere, service, and food. As I browsed through the menu I got more excited about my dinner. I ended up ordering the Jumbo Scallops, the corn risotto was phenomenal. My only complaint would be that the Scallops were definitely -not- Jumbo, more like U10, and if I'm paying $32 for a Scallop dish they should serve what is stated on the menu. Amazing Banana Cream Pie. Overall experience was about a 4/5. read more

Good for brunch! Nice decor, friendly staff. Oyster is delicious. Dinner is so-so. Great atmosphere.

Had a reservation and had to wAit over half an hour to be seated. Music in the bar upstairs was fabulous. Food not good. Brussels sprout appetizer so salty over cooked my lamb banana cream pie tasteless. I would go back in the summer for drinks and the view but not for a meal. read more

AMAZING. Simply put, as a Celiac with other Food Intolerances, dining out is difficult, but here I felt like a NORMAL patron.Beautiful View, Incredible Service, Mouth Watering Food - Celiac Approved. Chef Michael not only took the time to speak to me on the phone before my arrival, but also greeted me as soon as I sat down at the table. I wanted scallops, but they were not offered as a GF option and quite a few other dishes included ingredients I could not eat. Chef Michael was able to provide me a SAFE and DELICIOUS meal that catered to all my dietary restrictions (gluten free, dairy free, Low Fodmap, Low Fiber). The presentation of my meal exceeded my expectations, as well as the taste. He truly outdid himself, and so did my server Ben who answered all of my questions and allowed me to change my entire order to suit my needs. I was beyond happy and will return on my next trip to Long Island. read more

I finally visited this sister raunt of the Rumba's. I could have taken the Rum boat, but arrived by auto after a spectacular summer day at Tiana beach. My party of three was told we had an hour wait for a table. I was fine with that as we started with cocktails at the outdoor bar area. While sipping on libations we toured this beautiful property. With awesome views of shinecock canal and Indian cove, we lounged in the beautiful landscaped gardens. This Hampton destination is why a restaurant does not have to provide good food in order to succeed! However the kitchen did exceed my expectations. The cowboy roll with fresh lobster avocado and prime ribs was tasty and creative. The Hampton oysters were cooked to perfection. My choice of sword fish was a no brainier, it's local and amazing. We also enjoyed the rotisserie chicken. We all agreed the food was good - Although the menu may have been limited, and does not take advantage of the bountiful resources the east end has to offer. Not to be forgotten was the excellent service we experienced. A pleasant surprise compared to most of the local seasonal restaurants. I will definitely be returning A.S.A.P. read more

Good bartenders, great drinks, tasty food, attentive service, live music and one of the best locations in the Hamptons. Try the Fire Island (tequila, hot pepper...mmmm) it is very good and different! Love sitting at the bar upstairs overlooking the water! The only thing that would make this better is serving the grilled artichoke from Rumba!!!! read more

Went to Cowfish for an engagement party in Aug. They had it set up by the outside bar. Food was very good. Tonight we decided to go back and try the place for a sit down dinner. Sat night about 5:30 got right in. Staff really shines here. Menu is very simple with a few specials. I had the mahi mahi wife had the salmon. Both were very good. For desert we had the apple cobbler that was to dye for. This place is a hidden gem with a great outside bar to hang out with great views. Hope they stay open year round will definitely go back. ill give it 2 starts beacuse it didn't fullfill my expectations. Went for lunch on Father's day arrived at noon so it wasnt busy. Host was friendly and we sat outside. but the rest of the servers were all over the place. Had to ask for napkins and utensils 3 times while apetizers were getting cold, the staff were just out of it. When taking our order the waitress would just space out and we kept repeting our order. While waiting for our lunch we were trying to enjoy the awsome view but the renovation going on In the restaurant was so disturbing. Really?on a Sunday? it's not just a Sunday it was Father's day and we were astonished this was been allowed on cite. I guess they couldn't wait till monday WOW!. We ordered clamshower which was divine except the undercooked potatoes ugh..salmon and ribs were delish outstanding flavor but my brother in law order flounder fillet which was the total oposite to the rest of the plates on the table. It tasted like oily pastry, so bland and over breaded with oily panko. and the house drinks we ordered 3 different ones they tasted like watered down vodka with a splash of flavor. This restaurant has a really cool bar so it they defffinately have to step it up with the drinks. I want to give it another chance. Update! still come here for the great location and beautiful setting but food and drinks are just not as delish as rumbas. and i hear the owner doesnt like to hire locals so the dont give out freebies so i think thats not how a local bussiness should run. It should support the community. read more

Where do I begin...my friend is a resident of Southampton and called 4 days prior to our visit (which took place on 6/10/17). Although the restaurant was already booked for Saturday night, the hostess encouraged us to still come in. She said that we would wait about 30 minutes for a party of 4 coming in between 6:30/7pm, during which we could get a drink at the bar. Because of the beautiful location and estimated short wait, we decided to try it out. We waited in a relatively long line of cars to check in with the complimentary valet. We then checked in with the hostess at 7pm, where we were told that a party of 4 would be a wait of 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours. She also mentioned to come back to the hostess stand after an hour to retrieve a buzzer. We decided to wait by the outside bar. We had a few drinks and the chips with guacamole sharing plate, which was delicious. The view of the sunset overlooking the water was beautiful. After about 45 minutes, my boyfriend retrieved the buzzer. This, we thought, was a hopeful sign since we had been given the buzzer 15 minutes earlier than the 1 hour benchmark. After an hour and 30 minutes went by, my boyfriend inquired with the hostess as to how much longer it would be. She informed him that it would be an additional 30-45 minutes. We found this to be extremely rude and unprofessional. Two private events were going on that night; however, we should have been informed of this when we originally called 4 days ago. It would also have been courteous,as guests, to be told that they were behind on seating parties when we were given the buzzer. The lack of communication and care that was displayed was very upsetting. When I spoke to the hostess about the extended wait time, she didn't really have much to say but did offer us a complimentary appetizer, which was nice. We got the Jumbo Buffalo Shrimp (comes with 3 but we got 4 due to the size of our party), which was delicious. After 30 minutes of additional wait time, I had to ask the hostess another time about the wait time. After waiting over 2.5 hours, we were finally buzzed for a table. The waitress was nice and we ordered all of our food right away. We got the spinach and artichoke dip, which was delicious. For entrees, we ordered a Caesar salad with chicken, Danish Baby Back Ribs ($28), Jumbo Diver Scallops ($30), and the Nola Shrimp ($27). The salad and ribs were delicious and generous portions. The scallop dish that I got, came with 5 decent sized scallops on a bed of jasmine rice with prosciutto and corn. The dish was a bit salty, but this could be due to the sea scallops and prosciutto. On the other hand, I can't begin to describe the Nola Shrimp dish. It came with 5 shrimp on a cast iron skillet and toasted bread on the side. We asked the waitress about the jasmine rice that is included in the description. She confidently stated that it was "right there." What she was referencing was a melon sized scoop of rice, that was unnoticeable from the other side of the table where my boyfriend and I were sitting. Although the taste of the dish was nice, it was more of an appetizer priced as an entree. The fact that it was $3 less than my scallops dish, which was a normal portion, is absurd. To say the least, I will not be returning. I would recommend this restaurant during a weeknight with only a reservation or for only drinks and appetizers, since those were significantly more satisfactory than our entrees that we waited over 2.5hrs for. read more

Great all around - a little hard to find but once I handed the keys to the free valet all was wonderful. My wife and I started going to Cowfish last summer. Since then we've been there about 8-10 times. Unfortunately, the trend here is that the food and service are both getting worse, especially in the last few months. Perhaps the best way to describe it is that it's a very inconsistent experience. Sometimes the food if great, others it's just ok (comparing the same dish). The service, overall though, has more consistently gotten worse. Orders are wrong, courses are sometimes spaced too soon (e.g., entrees come 5 minutes after appetizers) or we wait almost half an hour for entrees. Inconsistency has caused us to lose trust and confidence in Cowfish. Recently, it's become a place where we feel like it's playing Russian roulette. At the prices they charge, it's hard for us to justify the gamble. Not sure what happened but the changes at Cowfish have really degraded the dining experience here. It's really unfortunate. read more

Great view and food with a true Long Island ambiance. Be sure to take advantage of their sister restaurant...

A few secrets you must know about Cowfish. One is the food isn't bad but why should it be when it not only resembles the food of its sister restaurant but it also really seems to be closely if not identical to another restaurant group known as Houston's. Their menus are quite similar looking and tasting but maybe that's because David (the owner) use to work with the company and has seemed to steal ideas and recipes to claim as his own. And if that isn't all I'm sure all you helpers would love to know that one of David's best chefs is none other than his trusty microwave. Yep that's right he loves to reheat your supposably fresh to order food. What are you wondering is microwaved....Prime rib sandwich. Yummy! Aren't you so excited to eat it. I know I was when I found out. So you may think that the food is so delightful but you might want to think twice before you hear your server there say everything is fresh. Finally the service is well less then up to par, especially the bar staff. If you are looking for a attentive, friendly, knowledge, speedy bartender you not going to find it at Cowfish. read more

Today my wife and I took our 11 year old son and his friend to Cowfish for lunch. Both the service and food were excellent , the restaurant is beautiful inside and out (we sat inside but there is also plenty of outdoor seating) and its waterfront setting cannot be beat. Among other things, the lobster stuffed mushrooms were absolutely fantastic. read more

June 4, 2016: Our women's retreat was in the Hamptons this year and we loved Cowfish. They do not take reservations for under 10 people so we went a little earlier than we had planned (6PM instead of 8PM since they told us over the phone the wait would be two hours!). Valet parking is FREE, which is great, and was very organized. Since we arrived earlier we only had about an hour wait, which was fine since there was live music outside and plenty of people just hanging around chatting and laughing. There were also a few games on the lawn. People were docking their boats on either side of the restaurant, which was cool. We loved the atmosphere. Once our pager went off, we went back to the front stand but we were then told our table was being cleared off (so why did the pager go off?). We were finally led upstairs to a table on the upstairs terrace. We assumed we would be eating inside since it was upstairs and we hadn't been asked "inside or out?" It was very cool up there so we didn't linger long after we ate, but the food was delicious. I just had the burger but it was one of the best I'd had in a long time. The ribs looked great - two in our party had them. I think someone else had the salmon. We were all pleased with the food and the night overall. The chill/fog coming in was the only downer. We would have been more comfortable inside. We will definitely be back to Cowfish next time we are in the Hamptons. read more

I have been hearing good things about Cowfish and never had the chance to visit until tonight. My boyfriend and I were very excited to spend a night out in Hampton Bays and adored the outside of the restaurant. As we sat down at a table, one server took our drink order as another server took our food order which was not a problem at all. We ordered our food and all of our questions were answered. Unfortunately, I ordered a $45 medium cooked filet mignon that ended up coming out rare. The manager came back with the same steak "cooked" more and as I cut into the steak I noticed it looked the same as before. I am not one to complain and I have never rated a restaurant on yelp before but I felt this was necessary. Once again, I sent the steak back for a second time and by the time they brought back the steak for a third time my boyfriends food was cold and we sat there for an 20 minutes more then we should have waiting on my entreé. Finally the waitress decided to come over and check on the table as she brought back the third steak. After that the waitress forgot my Pinot Grigio for 15 minutes until we reminded her we still haven't received it. Finally, we finished our food and demanded the check immediately only to find out we had a full bill until I made it aware to the waitress that I felt it was unfair to pay for a $45 steak that was sent back twice. Overall, as my boyfriend and I work in the restaurant business we are aware of the difficulties that occur through out the night. However, we will not be attending this restaurant nor will be be recommending it to anyone that asks. read more

My family and I threw my sister her bridal shower Saturday, 7/22. My family and I love Cowfish and we've always had great dining experiences there. However, I wanted to express that there were several things I was unhappy with in regards to the contract we had for the shower being upheld and the service overall. First, we ordered the roasted chicken as one of the menu options for the event and this choice was replaced by sandwiches (which quickly ran out and were not replenished) without us being consulted. We were also supposed to get coffee and tea as part of the event which was never served. The contract stated that we would have 40 guests (we had slightly less), so there should have been enough food to accommodate this. We quickly ran out of asparagus and we were told that our contract only called for one tray when only the number of guests were specified. Lastly, we were just I satisfied with general basic service with regards to simple things like not having enough silverware due to lack of replenishment, having to ask over and over for drinks, rude employees. When reaching out to go over our concerns we were basically ignored and not cared about. Let's just say never have an event here, I defiantly will never again. read more
