Cover 3 is an upscale version of Buffalo Wild Wings. It's a sports bar/restaurant - but with high quality food and classy casual atmosphere. I got a plate of the brick chicken mac n cheese. Chicken was a bit on the dry side, but I liked how there was a hint of spiciness from the crushed peppers. Portion size was pretty big. Beef tenderloin salad was delicious as well. Salad dressing was not overwhelming, and the beef was tender and juicy. However, portion size is pretty small compared to other salads served here. Our waitress was super nice and friendly! I stopped by for lunch today and had a wonderful experience. The hostess, Amanda, was friendly and welcoming and accommodated my request for a table with access to an outlet. The server, Kirstyn, came to the table right away to take drink orders and continued to be super attentive. James B., the manager, also stopped by to check on us and was awesome! I had the Allendale salad, which never disappoints! My friend had tequila, lime, and jalapeno chicken tenders at Kirstyn's recommendation, and those were also delicious. I only give four out of five stars because the music was a little odd and we found it distracting. read more

I came here for a work function a couple of weeks ago before going to the House of Torment, and was happy I didn't stay home (for once). I ordered the wedge salad, and our group collectively ordered the calamari, fried shrimp and oysters, and hot wings! Everything was crispy, delicious, and fresh! I had their Mexican martini, which was strong enough for my liking & tasty - I was not disappointed, hence why I ordered three. The service was great for a group of 12 individuals, and even on a busy Friday evening. They have several large screen TV's to watch the games, nice atmosphere, without an obscene amount of noise - enjoyable experience, for sure. Came out here on a Wednesday night for dinner and had a great meal! This place is pretty causal with an elevated pub food menu. We sat outside which was pretty comfortable with heat lamps. I usually prefer to sit in a chair rather than a bench but during COVID we make exceptions! We had the triple dip for an app, and I shared the Allendale salad and truffle burger with my boyfriend. The salad was awesome and the burger was suuuuuper delicious (but a little indulgent !) The restaurant was quiet which I love and the service was fast! Had not been to C3 since before pandemic. Something had dropped off a bit. But last night we had a great meal with a real, professional server. That really stood out. Great timing, knew her menu, sharp. Food was delicious. UT baseball winning helped too. The staff really stood out. Restaurants are missing the mark on professional employees. It's hard with the economy to retain good people, but nothing makes you not want to go back than a forgetful person who acts like they don't care and seems annoyed that there is a customer. I was super disappointed by my groups experience at Cover 3 this past Thursday evening. I have come to this location a few times before for dinner and always had a decent experience. This time our waitress was stretched way too thin, therefore we were always waiting forever to get refills or request new drinks. Then our food FINALLY come out and mine was cold, the food tasted stale (rock hard onion rings) and the meat of my reuben was SO STRECHY. I couldn't eat it. The inside of this place is gorgeous I'm not sure why it wasn't packed while we were there. I had the cup of chili which is the one item I would not recommend on the menu, as it's made with steak or brisket that was WAY too fatty. For any of you who know me (or have read my burger reviews), I am always on that quest to find the perfect burger. I tend to march to my own drummer as to where to try these, as I am frequently less than wowed by the hype of places that people are raving about and standing in line for. No one should have to stand in long lines for good food. That is what reservations are for. While working on a blog post about one of my favorite Pizza's, I tripped over a burger recommendation in an article about Cover 3. After further google research, I discovered they were also number 12 on the Texas Monthly 50 Best Burgers in Texas list from 2009. While I have not "religiously" sampled all of their recommendations, I have sampled burgers from 3 of the 8 establishments they have listed in Austin and was only blown away by one of them. 2 observations: 1) Texas Monthly needs to seriously do a more current version of that list, as it is "so 2009." 2) It cannot hurt to try the other 5 places on the list to see if they are on to something. I was heading back from meeting friends at a Doghouse Drinkery Dog Park (dogs in tow) and was Jonesing for a good burger. Since I had to venture past the exit to Cover 3 to get home, I decided make it 4 of 8 places and called in a to-go order. While ordering, I repeatedly asked that it be Med Rare (more on the rare side) and that they sub out the ciabatta bun for a Whole Wheat option but asked them to toast the bun. If you want to know how I rate a good burger, check out my review of Luke's Inside Out where I list the "Top Ten signs of a really good burger, according to moi." It was kind of like sports invaded a downtown feel dinner house. The bartender was friendly, rang my order and asked if I wanted a drink. 10 minutes later, I left with my food in tow. Plastic Bag Side note : they do send it in a handled plastic bag that is likely reusable as it was more than 4 mils. Once home, I put my burger with Parmesan fries on a plate, sliced it in half, photographed it for Yelp, and began to bite into it. The half pound of beef was ground fresh and had good seasoning. It was slightly charred on the outside, giving it a slight smokiness, but juicy on the inside. They failed to make it Med Rare, there was not a hint of pink in sight :(note to self... next time ask for rare). The bun was slightly soggy on the bottom (could have been the ride home steaming in a plastic box) but it held up. The cheddar and bacon (which will run you an extra $0.50 and $0.75) added a nice compliment. Cheddar was sharp and bacon as thick and perfectly crispy. It was served with a nice portion of ripe tomato slices, just the right amount of thinly sliced red onion, and shredded ice berg lettuce. (minus points for the iceberg shreds). It was tasty and too much food. There was 1/3 left for later. The Parmesan fries were thin, perfectly seasoned, not soggy or crisp... just right and totally devoured. It was a good burger and delightful twist on the Parmesan fries. They lose points for over cooking, shredded iceberg lettuce and a soggy bun. It was not on the top of my list, but there is only room for one at the top. It is a solid delicious burger and I see why Texas Monthly selected it. In order to give them a fair shake, I need to order and eat it in the restaurant, so I am eating it as it is served instead of after 10 minutes in a car. It is a solid good burger that beats out many of the places in Austin. I would recommend them as a good burger and add them to your list to try, if you have not yet ventured there. BTW - If you are a fan of burgers from that trendy place that starts with an H.. Cover 3 is a sister restaurant to that chain. Difference, less expensive, no lines and a REAL no-nonsense burger that stands on its own merits without drowning it with sauces and toppings. read more

Cover 3 is a sports bar with a warm interior and dog friendly patio. I have been to Cover 3 while killing time before a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse, to watch a game at the bar, to enjoy happy hour, private party in their upstairs area and to sit on the patio with Nala. I have never had a poor experience. Service is always great and timely. I usually order one of their generous salads but I have also enjoyed the brick chicken sliders, tenderloin sliders, ahi tuna burger and Jesse is a big fan of the brick chicken mac n cheese. They offer a decent selection of Texas and other craft beers along with a good wine selection. They have affordable wines by the glass starting at $7 (cheaper during happy hour) and they have higher end bottles in their wine cellar to include Cakebread, Stag's Leap and Caymus. When we bring our pup and sit on the patio they always bring her water which we appreciate. They also make efforts to cool down the patio with a portable AC machine. When we attended a party here recently they catered light snacks of nachos, tacos and quesadillas and we had a dedicated waitress. The upstairs space is great for private casual gatherings. They also have a private dining area that can be reserved. Happy hour is daily and offers discounted drinks and appetizers. read more

I think this might be the only one of a handful of places I've reviewed three times. I dont really know why I feel so compelled -- I don't actually come here a lot. Our brunch a couple of days ago was so lackluster I was driven to the Yelp to discuss. It's true -- I have no other voice but Yelp. Sad and true. We had the egg tourneados which in theory should have sent my tastebuds to outer space. Poached eggs, hollandaise, english muffins, beef tenderloin and a side of sauteed spinach. Everything tasted the same. Or rather, they were all flavorless. The best thing on my plate was the english muffin... which I wasn't eating. The service was spotty before it got busy and worse when it got busy. The bloody mary bar is okay. They've got lots of hot sauces but again, flavorless shrimp and raw serranos? Are you just trying to get rid of stuff from the kitchen? I don't get it. Anyway, It's okay. Just A Ok. If folks don't have other options, then go. But I'm bypassing the benedict Benedict and going straight for Tierra Linda Tacos. Or Jims. You gotta love Jims. read more

I love CFS. Really I do. Now I know Texans like to think that chicken fried steak doesn't even exist outside of TX, but it does. Even in CA. But I'll admit that CA CFS does not compare to TX CFS. My boyfriend, who grew up in Texas, had lured me to Austin with promises of CFS on every corner, but already midway through our 10-day stay, I'd only had a bite of the CFS he had for breakfast at Olivia. Thanks to the Yelp talk threads (where else would a topic be, "Where to get the best CFS"?), Cover 3 was on my radar but an unlikely stop since it was so far from where we were staying. Thankfully, my boyfriend's search for a new pair of boots landed us in the vicinity. Actually I'm not really sure how I *knew* we were close. I guess my internal CFS GPS was working that day enough for me to fire up the Yelp app and find C3 just a mile away. The CFS was great! A tenderloin medallion battered and deep-fried quickly resulted in a juicy, still-pink-in-the-middle CFS. The crust was crunchy but tended to slide off the meat, but that didn't detract from the flavor. Even the mound of mashed potatoes and the crisp sauteed green beans proved somebody in that kitchen knows how to cook. And that somebody also has creativity, as in "not only will I make my CFS with an expensive cut of meat and do it proud, but I'm also going to shake things up with a green chile cream gravy." Brilliant! I wish there was a Cover 3 here in Silicon Valley. It would be a favorite with my friends who also enjoy great comfort food, drinks, friendly service, and sports-watching aplenty. read more

I'm going to keep this one short and cheesy as in Brick Chicken Mac&Cheese, cheesy. Had dinner with my family here tonight and ever so glad we did. The service was great, the atmosphere & pricing agreeable and the food & drinks were good. We started off with the Triple to nosh and a Mexican Martini & Strawberry Lemonade with a splash of vodka to drink. The Triple comes with tortilla chips and a dish of fresh guacamole, queso and a yummy salsa. All three items were delish and a great way to start the meal. My drink was cool and refreshing but a little weak for my taste. My daughter had a sip and she really liked it as well. She does not like alcohol and she told me she couldn't taste any so I'm pretty sure they under poured OR I misread the menu and it was in fact an alcohol free beverage. Her dad absolutely loved his martini so either way we were off to a good start. This was quickly followed up by the Jerk Shrimp Salad, Hickory Burger and the star of the night, Brick Chicken Mac & Cheese. We all sampled each others food and although we all enjoyed our meals the winner was the Brick Chick Mac & Cheese. It appears that we are not the only folks that feel that way so do yourself a favor and just order it. Don't mess around with the supporting actors order this dish and you will go away a very happy customer. I must say, I rarely write a poor review of any establishment, but tonight's experience at #Cover3 left me baffled, bewildered and taken aback. My friends & family and I frequent Cover 3 restaurant, as it is in our neighborhood, reasonably priced with pretty good food. However, the problem we have been experiencing lately is with their new bartender. He's a tall, nice looking African-American gentleman that works the night shift. For some strange reason, when we would order something from His bat, , he would be extremely rude to us. His rude behavior has surfaced on several occasions and never understood his terrible attitude or what he treated us this way..... but didn't really think much of it and always let it go. He has young men , several of them, that come into the bar at night , they all do shots together and he seems VERY friendly to them yet is always very unkind to us. I'm talking out of his way rude to us. Tonight was no exception. My friend and I had dinner and it was lovely as always. We each had two margaritas and then asked for an after dinner drink. We went to the bar to have a white Russian and the bartender said he would not serve us. Keep in mind, this is the same young man that is consistently rude to us. He told his manager that he saw me "stumbling out of the restaurant bathroom" and said I was "drunk". I questioned him , Asking him why he thought that. He said because we had two margaritas each and an after dinner drink at our table again reiterating he saw me "stumbling out of the restaurant restroom". I have never stumbled in or out of any establishment. This was a bold face lie. Absolutely untrue! And I told him so. I asked that the manager came over, he told the manager that we arrived at 5:30 in the afternoon and have been "drinking all night". Well, that's another lie. In fact, the manager greeted us when we arrived at 6:30 pm as he recognized us from prior dining experiences. When I questioned the manager about what the bartender was talking about, he said "well you don't seem drunk but your friend does" . So my question to him was, so I don't seem drunk but my friend does, yet the bartender said it was I who was was "stumbling out of the bathroom?"?None of this was making sense. I also educated him on the fact that my friend had been in a coma and recently had only learned to talk, swallow and walk again therefore perhaps she was not as quick on her feet as the rest of us. Again, she was not the one being accused of drinking too much, they accused ME yet when confronted, they said it was my friend. I have to tell you, I have been frequenting this establishment for many years, going way back to The 1970s when the bar and restaurant was called The Lock Stock and Barrel. We arrived and there was a beautiful wedding party having brunch on the other side. This place is socially distance, the staff is very friendly and accommodating. I really like Cover 3. The prices are great, the food is always delicious, and if you're like me and manage to always go during non-peak hours, it's the perfect place for a quiet lunch or dinner with a friend. They're going for an upscale sports bar feel and accomplish just that. One of my favorite things to order is the lettuce wraps from the appetizer menu. The filling is this delicious garlic gingery pork with the super crunch of water chestnuts and some shiitake mushrooms thrown in for good measure. It comes with a Chinese style mustard sauce on the side that adds an interesting flavor. It's really enough for a meal for one, so take note and keep it as an option. Tonight I also ordered the chicken tinga quesadilla appetizer. This also would have sufficed as a meal, so I'm imagining that this is their M.O. as far as appetizer portion sizes go. The quesadillas had all of the flavors one would expect from a chicken quesadilla and were pretty satisfying. I've really never had a disappointing meal here, though I will take a moment to speak about the beloved brick chicken mac and cheese dish. Both of these things are great individually AND together, but if you ask me, the brick chicken is SO much better on it's own. It pairs well with the mac and cheese, for sure, but on its own, the skin is crispier and it really stands out. It doesn't seem as great when its in the mac and cheese dish, but maybe I just didn't have it prepared right. As far as other dishes go, burgers? Good stuff. That reuben? GET IT. Salads? TOTALLY filling and worth it. Enchiladas? Tasty. I'm going to have to start branching out more on their menu, because I really have no complaints about anything, so if it's all this good, I have no reason not to order something new. I'd driven by this place and read the Yelp buzz about it for months before I actually was able to try it. From the street, this place looks pretty imposing. And just like with everything in the same strip, the parking lot is awkward. It works, though. I've never not been able to find a spot in the lot...it sometimes involves time and a long walk to whichever business I'm trying to get to. But I digress... The interior of Cover 3 wasn't what I'd expected. I heard and read so much about this "sports bar" that I expected Pluckers. Instead I got something closer to Roy's with TVs. Very impressive! The menu is a bit overwhelming. Everything sounds good! This is by no means a bad thing. Also, at first glance, the food may seem a little pricey, but considering the amount and quality of food that you're getting, it's a great deal! I ordered the Mongolian pork lettuce wraps (an appetizer) as my meal, and it was perfect! I recommend it to actually be eaten (and shared) as an appetizer, though. The spicy/sweet flavor is meant to be broken up by other flavors and revisited. Eating it as a meal overloaded my tastebuds a bit. The portion was perfect for lunch, and the lettuce made the meal feel lighter than it probably was. :) My fellow diners ordered some other items that I got to taste and really enjoyed. The fries are thin and crispy (and stay crispy for the duration of the meal). The chicken-fried chicken with green chile gravy and mashed potatoes was delicious...but a LOT of food. It could easily be shared or a portion taken home for later. We also ordered their mac n cheese to share. Whoa. It was soo good! Perfectly cheesy and served with crispy bread crumbs on top, fresh out of the oven. I was a little disappointed in the quality of the leftovers. I've been a fan of Cover 3 on Anderson Lane for years. Two friends and I celebrated a Birthday there today and really got lucky. Trace was our server and did an outstanding job. James, the manager, stopped by our table twice to chat and ask if everything was O.K. What great customer service! The food was excellent, our server Trace was so accommodating and at the end of our meal, James presented a bottle of wine to the birthday girl!! I really appreciate the low lighting and the large, comfortable booths - great atmosphere for a relaxing lunch out with friends. Picture a sports bar in Vegas. That mental picture should be right about par with what this bar looks like. Inside is is elegantly decorated, from the walls to the booths and tables. A nice restaurant by any ones terms, now add a big screen every few feet. Not just a crappy big screen, but big ol 60in HD flat screens with every sport showing. That alone is enough to make me love a place, but add outstanding food and you have a true winner! Some personal favorites and must tries; Parmesan Fries, lettuce wraps, the Reuben, Tortilla soup, and the burgers. Everyone one of those will be a delicious treat for you. Trust me, they will. lol This is a place I would bring a date or wife or someone not into sports bars and get away with watching the game while you eat. Very classy and upscale, nice change of pace from normal sports bar haunts. With this though comes price. It is a bit pricey, nothing outrageous, just not cheap by any means. But you do get what you pay for, and I don't mind paying and having a nice meal and watching my Spurs kick butt. Overall this place is a must try for anyone, I enjoy lunch here quite often. The most recent person I took there described it as "classy upscale sports bar" which I think hits it right on the nose. TVs with different games happening everywhere, but the place would still be vibey without it! I've had the same server the last few times I've been and she's fantastic and anticipated our needs so we never ended up wondering where she was or needing to flag her down. Also, the quality and quantity of the food for the price is incredible. Their parmesan fries are delicious, but my favorite combo when I go is to get the bluebrry brioche french toast and breakfast quesadilla. I recently tried the steak benedict and the green chile brunch enchiladas -- really good, satisfying, filling, would recommend. For at least the last four years, Cover3 has been consistently been in my top 5 go-to places in Austin. There is so much that's right about this place. The easiest way to describe this place is that it's similar to the Roaring Fork with a Sports Bar Twist. Their menu is awesome. Chop House Burger and Iceberg Wedge are my favorites, but their menu is a whole boat load of WIN. This is actually one of my wife's favorite places for date night even thought neither of us are avid sports fans. Now that I work on Far West, I can pop over for a late lunch or an after work Martini. The last time I was there, Doug brought out a Brick Chicken Mac and Cheese for me to try, and it was off the chain. Doug and his crew do an awesome job of taking care of their customers and I have never had so much as a minor complaint with anything I've ever had. Oh, and an insider tip - if you ever forget to make valentines or anniversary reservations, call Cover3 as they saved my butt a couple years ago. Despite the TV's lining the walls, this place is every bit as nice as any other place you'd consider taking your significant other on a special occasion.
