Horrified by the bullying behavior of the students and the principal's lack of concern for what was happening right under his nose.

CCS is an amazing school. I attended here from 1st to 8th grade and graduated in 2020. After graduating from CCS, I volunteered in the athletic department, running scoreboards and coaching football. I would've never given up so many hours of my life if I didn't have complete faith and confidence in the Principal, Mr. Furey and the athletic department and coaches as a whole. Mr. Furey is amazing person and an amazing principal. The trips he leads every year are unlike any other experiences I have had and are amazing memories. The energy he brings to campus is unmatched and the way he turned Covenant around and helped Covenant thrive after taking over for the former administration is pretty outstanding. Mr. Furey and his staff have built a loving, Christ-centered community around which the school has thrived and been blessed. I highly encourage you to give Covenant Christian a chance. Take a tour. This school has quite literally been a Godsend. We moved back to California during the pandemic when all public schools were remote learning, and as an essential employee working on site, I needed in-person learning for my child. By a stroke of luck and grace, there was an opening at CCS for the grade level we needed, and from day 1 we have felt completely at home here. There are truly not enough words (even for a wordy gal) to describe how grateful I am for this team. I am not exaggerating when I say that every single staff member here is not only 110% invested in supporting my student, but they are invested in supporting our family as well. I can feel confident that each day I will drop off my student to be beautifully educated, AND to be loved, supported, encouraged, and comforted. The teachers are creative and inventive with their methods of instruction, and are consistently in communication with families. The principal is heavily involved in day-to-day activities as well as extracurricular events, and takes time out of his busy schedule to ensure he knows each student on a personal level. Additionally they have taken every precaution possible during the pandemic and reopening, and as a healthcare worker I am thrilled and relieved by those efforts. Though private school can be a financial stretch for many, CCS is hands-down worth every penny. I have everything positive and genuine to say about Covenant Christian School. Our daughter has been attending this private school since the 2016-2017 school year (her 2nd grade); the school goes up till 8th grade. The staff and principle work together and are transparent about the curriculum; any curious parent may ask to see what their child will be learning for that year and the principal will gladly take out 3-ring binders for the year your child is in and the curious parent can read about the year's subjects and lesson plan. The teachers are kind, attentive, in tune with their students' needs, and they are responsive to parents if we have any concerns or questions. My child, doesn't feel lost in the crowd. We tried public school and as a family we all agreed it wasn't for us. Covenant Christian private school environment suits us best. SPEAKING OF LESSON PLAN: this school DOES NOT TEACH OR ADHERE TO COMMON CORE CURRICULUM. This was the deciding factor for enrolling our daughter. Their math and language arts program is still current with today's educational standards, but Covenant Christian School is not bound to abide by Common Core requirements. CCS is proudly accredited by ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International), an accreditation that is both highly regarded and highly praised. This school also teaches CURSIVE, which sadly most schools in OCSD do not. CCS also offer before/after school day care, sports such as flag football, cheerleading, basketball, volleyball (depending on number of participants annually), and in off season--Summer Day camps. Like all private schools, there is the matter of tuition. Thankfully the school does offer assistance to families that qualify. There's also special discounts that families can apply for, keep in mind you have to reapply for the discounts every year, but that's not a problem. Lastly, there is a STRICT anti-bullying policy practiced on campus. The principle is approachable to all students, they al enjoy a round of tether ball, or 4-square with their principle, and because of his open-door policy they trust that they can go to their principle if and when words and actions tank for the worse. The teachers are also very aware of the anti-bullying code and implement the policy to the letter, and if that mean getting the principal and parents involved then so be it, CCS does not tolerate such behavior--the resolution and policy is clearly stated in the handbook. My review has gone on long enough. I truly love this school. My family is so blessed and fortunate to be able to send our child to this amazing Godly-bible-based school. read more

I love love love this school. We move a lot, and my son has gone to numerous private schools. So far, CCS is by far head and shoulders above the rest of other private schools out there. My son loved the small class size, the one on one time he received from the teacher, and the faculty in general. We are currently in the process of moving again so we are leaving CCS, the only thing that did keep us here in Orange for as long as we've been here was this AMAZING school. The office staff is so spectacular and know my son by name, what he was doing in his class, if he received a part in a school program etc. I've never walked into a school office and had everyone know my son's name AND my name as well. As for the former review, she seems to be a little bitter at the world and her mother right now. Give her 10-15 years and her own child that she has to raise and she'll be singing a different song altogether I bet. Ha ha, the "my mom wanted me to believe in her religion" is a hoot...yes, and she also taught you to brush your teeth and wipe your own tush after taking a poop, are you complaining about those things as well? It's called guidance you fool, and that's what parents are SUPPOSE to do. I bet your mother made sacrifices in her own life so you could go to a private school, but you are forgetting all about that aren't you? Okay, enough about OTHER reviewers and their naive opinions. I give CCS a 10+ star rating. Just because someone is a Christian doesn't mean they are with-out fault, it just means others notice our actions more. LOL this is was my former grade School before I got relocated to Twentynine Palms, CA in 8th grade. Let me just sum up my review by saying I did not like this School. I found alot of the staff to be nice except for the Principal (now retired). But there was the Education. Or at least that's what my mom tells herself. I don't even want think about how much my parents paid for me to go here. Considering I hated it and only stayed in touch with 1 classmate and each grade has a small number of students. So it wasn't like there was anyone at this School that I didn't know. Maybe it's different now but most of the kids and kids parents that I knew were pretty snobby. I even think I became snobby myself due to what I was surrounded by. Maybe I did learn more at this School than I would have at a Public School but I really think my Mom was just trying to instill her religion in me. Which they attempted to do pretty hard here. There was a Bible course, Church time, actual Church on Sundays, Youth Group and the list goes on and on. I actually think it had the opposite effect on me. Most of the kids were such hypocrites doing "bad things" in their free time. That while I'm not Atheist or Agnostic. I can rarely stand to be next to the sorts that attend Church. I can't blame CCS for that 100%. They were just the 1st in a long line of Churches that didn't impress. Not to mention the fun time that the principle tried to expel me after I was caught giving my 7th grade boyfriend a kiss. They settled for a suspension (which I welcomed... no School) and if memory serves me right they didn't let me go near my boyfriend for 3 months while on School grounds and I had to spend every lunch in the Principals office. Plus counseling with the Pastor. It was just a kiss and he was my boyfriend for 9 months. I mean for a 12 year old that's a long time ;) read more

I work for Covenant and have had an incredibly positive experience. They are a school that honors Christ in everything and that pursues excellence wholeheartedly. The staff love what they do, and the kids share in that joy. There is a real sense of community at this school, and each student is learning and being challenged in healthy ways throughout the school year. Our son, now in 7th grade, has been attending Covenant Christian School since kindergarten and it has been a wonderful school for him. He has received a fantastic education, will be fully prepared for his transition to high school and has grown in his love for Christ. The school has received its WASC Accreditation and has a loving, nurturing principal and staff who care deeply about the success of its students. I cannot say enough about the pre-school teachers, the director and entire staff! They honestly went above and beyond since day one of signing my son up. I have a complicated relationship with my child's dad and they accommodated every possible situation that was thrown their way. From pick ups to food allergies to parenting conflicts; they handled it perfectly! I transferred my son here from another preschool from around the corner which I was not satisfied with my child's education. He attended pre-k and has learned more than I could have asked for. They 110% got him ready for Kindergarten! The field trips are educational, they do extra for all the holidays and teach all about the bible. Covenant Christian School has been a GOD-send for our family. Our daughter became a different child when we moved her to this school. We are so happy we found Covenant. The teachers, staff and children care for one another. The older children mentor the younger children and are taught that they need to be role-models in every thing they do - from the playground to the different events at the school. Don't miss out on a great school for your children. With all the issues at public schools - you should definitely take a look at Covenant. The Washington DC trip was wonderful, the children learned a lot about our founding fathers and the principles are country was based on. The academic coaching program is wonderful, both of my children used this service. Ms. Heller helps them with all aspects of academics - study skills, reading, vocabulary, test taking, etc. I have seen both my children's confidence and the confidence of other children soar. Too bad I "have" to put atleast 1 star. A year ago, it would have been 5 stars but it's gone down hill that quick. We actually loved this school before this year. We dealt with bullies there in the past but it was always dealt with properly (for the most part)...until now that is. My son has been bullied for most of the year this year (& prior) but the difference is this year it turned physical & it was handled wrong. My son was punched in the stomach twice in a matter of a month by the same child, on top of multiple other times of being verbally bullied by the child. After the 1st time I met with the new principal Bill Furey who admitted the bully (name begins with S.) has not only given my son a hard time but many students & said he actually let all the students confront this child & ask him why he does it & he was convinced this turned the child's behavior around. He promised me if it happened again, it would have actual consequences. I told him I did not believe the child was done, knew what kind of child he was, he did something every time no one was looking. Well when it happened again, they turned their cheek & continued to not only after the 2nd physical punch in the stomach but through verbal abuse for multiple weeks after. On top of it all, they are now trying to blame my son, saying he had a part in it. You know what he did? I teach my kids forgiveness & that bullies are usually bullied cuz of a bad situation at home, so I teach my kids about 2nd chances & try to be kind to the bully. You know...kill them with kindness? My son tapped the child on the shoulder to say "good job" because the kid did something cool in PE, the child did not give my son any time or a chance to say it but instead punched him in the stomach again but the school is actually protecting the bully now. Their excuse is he punched him in the stomach cuz he felt threatened by my son tapping him on the shoulder. Insane! Also, it get's worse the child's Godmother/Grandmother who picks him up started messing with me in the parking lot during pick up time. She started cutting me off, giving me looks, blocking me in, etc., like she is a child herself. I told them this too but they had nothing to say to that. There are other parents who have acted out in the parking lot as well. Some very rude people there. When you have mean parents, it's no wonder you have mean kids. Turns out, from my older daughter that use to go there, this bully's mom is really involved in the school & donates time & money & this child has been there longer, so it's no wonder! It explains it all! For CCS who matters most to them comes down to $ or connections. I had to keep seeing this child, 1st hand, following my son still, no teachers watching...where is the blame in my son for that? My son told him during these times he was not suppose to be near him and the bully said "so, I don't care." I emailed the school every single time this happened to let them know this child is still bullying my son & any of those times he could have done something else to my son & my son be blamed again. It took 5 emails in 2 weeks, each time this happen to get a serious response back, on getting more serious about protecting my son. BUT even then, time showed this was not going to be the case again. I had my son out of school for 5 days (2 of those were weekend days) to get him into another school. The process was taking longer than thought, so I dreaded having to send him back but knew he had to get back in school, so I had to send him back Monday and after 5 days of my son not even being at school, his 1st day back, that child did not fail to mess with my son. When I picked my son up from the school early & went home & wrote a pretty angry email (who wouldn't??), their response was my son is lying and just didn't want to do the make-up work from his absence. The nerve! He's been out before & has done make-up work no problem. They are making whatever excuse they can to not make themselves look bad. Guess I shouldn't be surprised. Sadly, I will say there are good teachers there & good staff but the higher ups & certain other teacher's &/or staff, this is sadly what you get. Ruins it for the good ones. Another child has bullied my son over the years (verbally but none-the-less it's still bullying). She is a female too. After multiple harassment to my son over the years, I believe she may have finally got introuble for calling him gay & not just him, I was told she was bullying others at the same time as well. I think she only got suspended though. There is more detail but I think I got my point across. Bottom line is more is expected at any school, let alone an expensive Christian school. CCS failed my son and I failed him by trusting that he was actually safe everyday & in the care of loving, Christian, trustworthy adults, with honesty & integrity. Sadly, Jesus is not apparent @ CCS anymore. They teach it but don't apply it/live it when it matters in real life situations. read more

My family loves this school! I had the best advantage because I worked as a preschool teacher while pregnant with baby number 3 while my oldest went to elementary and my middle to preschool. I got to see the school from the inside out. I will say.. the teachers love these kids! They all have a passion to teach and mold these young minds into God fearing good people. I had a great time working as a sub for the preschool last year and part of this year, getting to know the teachers and their love for the kids was a highlight last year. He started pre-k here a few months ago and is absolutely thriving. Even after a mere two weeks, my husband and I talked about how mature he was getting. He now can write his name, recognizes the letters of the alphabet, doesn't want to leave school, doesn't cry every morning about going to school, and knows about prayer. We have come to absolutely love this little school for so many reasons. Both of our kids have attended over the last four years, and we have had such positive experiences. The staff and faculty are loving and helpful. The school encourages relationships between the younger students and older students ("big buddies"), which results in an overwhelmingly loving environment that is noticeable the moment you step on campus. The school is always trying to do things better, which I appreciate, and there is no lack of communication. The teachers are attentive, loving, and highly qualified. We are so thankful for Covenant Christian School. My son has been there for three years and is happier than he as ever been. CCS is like a second family to him. The whole staff, from the principal, to the teachers and office staff are caring and supportive. The small class size has allowed him to receive more individualized attention and allowed me to have consistent communication with his teachers. He has also benefitted greatly from the academic coaching program with Miss Heller. During this time he receives extra help with assignments and works on developing study skills. He was recently reassessed by our local school district and has made significant academic progress relative to his last assessment three years ago, prior to going to CCS.
