It is Christ-centered and our children are taught to have a healthy relationship with Christ, and to not treat others with judgment or rebuke, but with love and grace. I have a 10 yr old son currently in the 4th grade at St.John's He has been here since kindergarten. This past summer he asked "Dad, when does school start back up ?? I miss it!!" He really has excelled there. The teachers and Faculty are top notch. Love this school. My girls love their teachers and their friends. So, far everyone has been welcoming and kind to my family. We have made some cool friends and I look forward to more years together. I personally think Dr. Jake Hollatz is doing an excellent job with the school. My kids are comfortable. Are we worried about the lack of diversity, of course, but this would be the case at any school we attend. We will address any issues if they arise. read more

The principal at St. John's has really done a disservice to this school. The school as a whole has gone downhill over the last several years. The principal is rude, unprofessional, and does not exemplify the core values of the school. His customer service skills are horrible, and he does not treat families with respect. The poor leadership of the school, and in turn it's staff, has led many families to leave and/or become dissatisfied with the school. The school was okay for my daughter until middle school. It was then that a school that claims to be Christ centered forgot Christ's teaching. Some of the parents were quite vindictive and hurtful to the children. Middle school administration and teachers leave a lot to be desired. I wish I could say I am alone in my feelings but as you can see from the other reviews I am not! Now let's address the gorilla in the room. This is a non racially diverse school. No employee of the school other than the handy man is a person of color. Out of 700 plus students you have maybe 5 that are African American. You have Hispanics but that is more in reference to the area than to choice. There even used to be a parent that parked in front of the school for pick up that had stickers on his vehicle that said "Allah is a pig" and "Allah Sucks" I mentioned this to the principal as being inappropriate but nothing was ever done. If you want your kid to be taught that they are superior please have them go to Saint Johns!!! read more

My two children began St. John's only 3 years ago. They came from a bilingual school and all lessons were taught in Spanish. We are of Latin decent and the importance of our culture and language is why I initially choose a bilingual education for my kids, but most bilingual schools in the OC don't provide competitive middle school or High School academics. Therefore, leading us to St. John's. St. John's was a big adjustment for my kids, but they have flourished with the kindness of their teachers and administration. A perfect school, doesn't exist, but a good match for each of our kids personalities, values, and talents can be found. We found it at St. John's Lutheran School. read more

We've always meant to update this review to clarify that we are speaking in regards to the Lambslot Preschool. We had an amazing PreK teacher, Mrs. Molly, who did an exceptional job at preparing the kids for Kinder. Many of the other teachers are also good, but she is quite exceptional at the preschool level. Side note: There is a review about this school that makes a very malicious comment about racism. The poster says this school is racist because the application asks about citizenship. EVERY SCHOOL asks this question. This is a blanket question asked to EVERY APPLICANT at EVERY SCHOOL. The fact that the poster made this defamatory statement really makes the poster look like a racist not the school, especially since this question is NOT made just to them. Anyway, we felt the need to say something because of the stupidity of the poster. read more

I like many good things about the school. But the things I don't like are: there are so many ways to get a detention in middle school that is virtually impossible to get through the day without performing some sort offense. You were always looking over your back wondering when am I going to get in trouble. For example you can get a detention for walking up the wrong side of the stairs. Wearing more than two bracelets on your arm. Having a color stripe on the back of your socks. If you wear a shirt without a St. John's logo you can get attention. You can't flip a water bottle and try and landed on its bottom. read more

Both of my children have attended St. John's since kindergarten. One is in high school now and one is in the middle school at St. John's. The school has prepared them for life with strong academic skills and a strong set of Christian values. The facilities are above par, super clean and constantly being updated. The classrooms are equipped with Smart Boards and the classroom materials are current. The middle school operates on a "one to one" lap top program. The teachers and staff are caring and get to know each child as an individual. My children have completely different learning styles and personalities. They both love their school and each has been accommodated with their learning styles in the classroom. Lots of activities are offered outside of the classroom. A great after school sports program, dance classes, music lessons, tutoring, are just a few of the things that are offered. The principal is amazing and has made great strides in keeping St. John's one of the best schools in the area by improving curriculum and overall student growth. As a parent I feel the investment that I have made in my child's education at St. John's is one of the best decisions I have made. I feel they are safe, cared for and they are receiving a superior education in a prestigious school setting. read more

I have been a part of St. John's Lutheran School for 19 years. The faculty, staff, and administration are experts in their field. They are kind, caring, and uphold Christian values. You will not find a better Christian school in Orange County. I've read the negative comments. There are always two sides to a story. I personally know these people, and if I were to expose these parents and student for who they truly are, and represent, they would be ashamed of their untruthfulness and misrepresentation in their review. read more

Great Preschool and excellent K thru 8. Kids leave prepared for high school and beyond. Would highly recommend this school for someone who wants a solid education backed by a Christian foundation. I knew my children would attend St. John's from the start. Their great-grandparents were members of the church, their grandmother, great-aunt and great-uncle attended the school as well as my brother and myself, and multiple cousins. I knew what it was like then and had hoped it would be the same or even better now. It is even better than I had hoped. The school offers so much. Academics are thorough and child-specific; we couldn't possibly try all the extra-curricular activities the school offers, but enjoy all the ones we have; and, most importantly, the children are learning about Jesus as their personal saviour, morals and values and how to apply them in their daily routine. Every teacher, faculty member and staff member that I have encountered thus far has "walked the walk." I truly feel that our family is cared for and a necessary component of the overall school family. I started sending my son to St. John's in second grade. Previously, he was at a public school in a great area, that was rated 10/10 on great schools. I was baffled by all of the problems at that school. The bullying was out of control, even in kindergarten and first grade, and the teachers and principal were not doing much of anything to stop it. I was getting ready to pull him out of school and homeschool him, but decided to give St. John's a chance, and I am so glad I did. He is now in 4th grade, and is doing great academically and socially. There have been ZERO bullying problems since he started. Sending him to St. John's was one of the best decisions we ever made for him. We've been so blessed by the staff, parents, and kids here. I love the smaller class sizes and Christian education. My kids have become good learners and they also have a clear understanding of their place as servants of God. Both my kids attended St Johns as did I a few years back... Excellent, caring teachers, fabulous facilities, very engaged leadership, and a strong Christian tradition. I was a student at St.John's. When I went to the graduation, my friend said she'd talked to a person that said I was allowed in to the dance. When I walked into the dance I was immediately kicked out, wondering if I had done something wrong. They said that it is only for graduates, which I understood. Then I went into the foyer to sit on the bench outside the auditorium, I was kicked out by one of the parents which made me pissed because I was not taking part of the festivities but I couldn't be inside at all. I was waiting to be picked up by my mom and I overheard parents talking about why was she here she doesn't go to school here anymore. They talking about me like I was a criminal. I thought that this was supposed to be a religious school, well I thought wrong. I was sitting on the concrete waiting for my mom in the cold and they were watching me like I was about to do something bad. All this school cares about is money, if you don't have any you're basically given the middle finger. My last year I was treated like this. There are only a few good people or teachers at the middle school, but if you want to go to this school I suggest that you go K-5 and then find some place else for middle school. I called this place my home for seven years and at the end I was treated like crap. read more

I have children in 8th and 4th grades at St. John's and love it. The academic instruction is rigorous. The technology 1:1 device program, band/music, and art, as well as the after school sports program are excellent. After school care is on-site and reasonably priced. All of this in a Christ-centered environment makes SJLS an excellent choice! read more

My two daughters attended St. Johns from junior high, then entered Lutheran HS. The faculty were kind and treated each of them as their learning style and personality indicated. One daughter was able to stop seeing many tutors after school, since the classes at St. Johns were orderly, the student / teacher ratio much smaller, and the entire atmosphere was directed to learning, not the social aspects of public school. She went from being a struggling, frustrated child, to being an average happy girl, who was keeping up with the material of her grade. All the money we saved from tutoring and the time and energy spent on that, paid off better for us as tuition at St. Johns. They graduated high school 2008, so I am speaking in retrospect. One daughter did not attend any college, so we are glad her education was well done through high school. We have tried home school, public school and Lutheran schools and are advocates for the Lutheran educational system. I can remember quite a few of their junior high teachers fondly still. It was also easy to fit in, even though my kids had not gone there "from birth" as some had. read more
