It's a great charter school option for the community. A small school with a great heart for its students and families.

The teachers, and Melinda, provide a safe learning environment. My daughter started August 2020, therefore I can only speak of experience after the pandemic. I must say Melinda and staff handled all of the guidelines to perfection. We were always informed of the latest regarding Covid. AIL is clean and I never felt like it wasn't. My daughter always came home happy with stories, and work, to share. AIL has an easy drop off and pick up system. It is all done through an app. With this app teachers also post photos and daily activities. I always knew what my daughter was doing that day. Communication was also very open. Melinda always responded to emails, and teachers always responded to messages from the app. My daughter always came back happy. She was safe and loved. I pulled her from AIL because I wanted her to attended the same school as sibling. She was very sad to leave her friends. She was devasted to leave the teachers she has known since age 2. I also want to add that Ms. Nora greatly helped with potty training. My daughter saw other kids with underwear and Ms. Nora assisted with encouraging her to get rid of diapers and be a big girl with underwear. I highly recommend AIL. Safety and my daughter's social emotional being were definitely met.

And one thing that has been absolutely invaluable and heartfelt is... how much thought and intention goes into preparing and cooking nutritious and delicious meals for the kids. Sue and her staff provide breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack, and they are all home cooked, hearty, and HEALTHY! I'm very conscious of what my kids eat, and the meals here give me so much comfort that I don't have to worry about them eating all the typical other foods like hot dogs and pizzas and burgers. I remember Sue telling me how she makes homemade chicken and bone broth, and will use that as a base for some of the meals or will use some of it when sautéing the veggies that they then serve. They're so focused on providing a well rounded experience for the students here - from manners to confidence to education to wonderful meals and beyond - and I am sooo thankful. My oldest attended this school from age 6 months until he turned 5 and enrolled in Pre-K a couple months ago. My youngest has attended from 3 months old and he's now almost 4. The Montessori way of teaching is so wonderful and one of the biggest reasons I chose this school. I didn't want to take my kids to a daycare that would show Cocomelon all day. At this school, my kids learned to write their names and others' before they went to pre-K and can tell me all the planets, continents, and random facts about nearly everything. It's really hard to leave your baby with someone else, but the owner Madhuri is truly one of a kind. I trust her and the staff she picks with my whole heart. As babies, they were handled with care and love. Each day, I would get a paper daily recap from the caregivers showing what/when my baby ate, drank, and went potty. The caregiver would also chat with me and tell me of any milestones or anything funny my baby did. These women are so kind, attentive, and patient with the babies, and are vetted by the owner extensively. When my boys turned 2, they went into the toddler class. I saw a huge jump in development in the months that followed the transition. The teachers of the toddler class, Ms. Jessica and Ms. Z, taught both of my sons and are always so kind and attentive. Once they turned 3, they went into what my sons call the "big kid"classroom. This is where they were given daily Montessori jobs and their development jumped even more. Ms. Angela and Ms. Angie are patient, kind, and so, so great with kids. My sons absolutely adore all the teachers, and we've been lucky enough to not experience as much turnover that is common in the daycare/preschool setting. All the teachers I mention above have been with the school for several years which helped my boys develop meaningful connections. As with any school/daycare, make sure to label your kid's items because several babies/toddlers have similar things and it can be easily mixed up. I saw a few comments mentioning that but I've never had an issue. Sending my kids to this preschool set them up to be ahead in pre-K/Kindergarten. I am so glad I found this school. If we are lucky enough to have more kids, I would sign them up at this preschool in a heartbeat.

They truly put so much love and work into their kids and it shows! This isn't just a place to "watch" your kids- they are always actively teaching them whether its shapes, numbers, alphabet, or scripture/hymns. They always have events and special guests to help entertain the kids as well. This year they had all different kids of professions come in and show the kids what they do (dental assistant showing the importance of brushing teeth, medical assistants showing how to use a stethoscope, and even firemen and police officer visits! My son talked about the fire truck for weeks!) They also have school programs twice a year for the kids to put on a performance and sing about the Lord. They have a great outdoor playground area- my son always comes home with shoes full of sand! Around Christmas time, they will put on fundraisers and get new toys for the classrooms and the kids get to open the "presents". It's truly wonderful. My son has grown attached to all of his teachers- he even likes to say goodnight to them before bed! THAT is what you want from a childcare provider! With that said, I'm sharing this perspective because it is not reflected in other reviews and may be helpful for some parents. This is a structured, routine driven program that may work well for children who naturally adapt to that environment. However, for younger toddlers (especially boys), we found there was less flexibility. Our son experienced some behavioral challenges, as well as a phase of biting, which began during his time at the school and was also an issue for other children in the classroom. At the school's recommendation, we enrolled our son in therapy. We listened to the feedback, took it seriously and followed through on every recommendation. The school also made efforts by bringing forward ideas, trying multiple approaches and working collaboratively with us. His pediatrician and therapists confirmed his behavior was developmentally normal and not a cause for concern. Over time, however, it became clear, based on feedback we received, that he was being more closely watched and corrected than other children. His therapist, who observed him in the school environment, noted that similar behaviors from other children were handled differently and that our son was more frequently singled out. In situations where another child initiated something and he reacted, he was often the one reprimanded. We also felt the increased attention on negative behavior may have unintentionally reinforced it, creating a cycle where it was heightened rather than improved. Communication was limited. The app provides a photo or two, but there was little information beyond that. We also experienced other concerns, including our child's situation being shared with another parent and a noticeable shift in how we were treated toward the end after we shared we were exploring other school options (felt like we did not have much of a choice). Interactions became distant, which made the last couple of weeks unnecessarily uncomfortable. We paid on time, participated in classroom events and sign ups, gave classroom gifts and recommended the school to friends who ultimately enrolled. Despite that, we never felt fully welcomed. This may be a great fit for families whose children naturally align with a more rigid/structured environment. For younger children who need more flexibility and support through typical developmental phases, it may not be the right fit. Structure is important, but at a young age, freedom and flexibility is equally necessary for children to feel supported as they grow.

It's tucked away in a little plaza and really checked off a lot of our boxes when searching for the right place for our daughter. Pros: 1) This place offered flexibility - they have various options ranging from a few days a week for 3 or 5 hours or full days (drop off and pick anytime between 7am-6pm ish) 2) The owner is very communicative - whenever I had questions (before enrolling) and throughout attending SHA, Vik was always quick to respond to any questions or concerns. Communication is consistent and they use the Lilio app. I got photos / updates of what my child was doing on a daily basis. Communication gets sent out immediately if a child has hand foot mouth, pink eye, etc. 3) Diversity - it was important to find a place that valued diversity, and SHA does a wonderful job celebrating diversity by inviting families to come and share about their own cultural traditions / holidays throughout the year. They also encourage family involvement in events throughout the year which I really loved. 4) Last but not least, a fun and safe learning environment - as a parent who was looking for the first preschool to enroll her daughter in, we wanted to make sure that we felt comfortable dropping off our child in a place where she felt safe and comfortable. They don't have cameras for parents to monitor their kids on, but we have always felt our child was in good hands in their care. My daughter never once complained about going to preschool -- she looked forward to going everyday! During the summer they also have a bunch of fun events like water play days, visits from magicians and 'mad scientists'. Now while there's so much to love about this preschool, especially the dedicated and compassionate teachers (who are what make the school special), it was disheartening to see a lot of the long term teachers leave this year. It was crucial for me to find a preschool that had consistent teachers, and we were very very lucky to have Ms Destany for the entire duration of the school year, but the constant turnover in staff was a bit alarming. Not sure what was going on here but it seemed like staff did not feel valued. Would've given this place 5 stars if it weren't for this.

Threatened with Disenrollment for Asking a Simple Question…read more I rarely write public reviews, but my recent experience with Little Scholars Academy and staff member Shehara Devendra left me shocked and disappointed. The issue began with something simple: I dropped off extra clothes for my child and was told they would be labeled by the school. Later, when I picked them up, none had been labeled as promised. I politely messaged the school, explained the situation, and respectfully requested that only the unlabeled items be returned so I could label them myself. What I received in response was not acknowledgment or accountability, but vague reassurances and generic replies that completely ignored the specific concern I had raised. Instead of acknowledging the oversight, I was told to "trust the process" -- as if my concern was rooted in distrust, when in reality I had simply asked for follow-through and clarity. I remained calm and polite in every message, even thanking them multiple times. At no point did I use disrespectful or inappropriate language. Despite this, I was later told by the Director that my child's enrollment could be discontinued if I was ever "disrespectful" again. After receiving that email from the Director, my family felt humiliated, anxious, and unsure of what to do next. After much hesitation, we decided to email the school to withdraw our child from enrollment. The school replied, asking us which date we wanted our child's last day to be. Because we were unfamiliar with their withdrawal process, we politely asked for more detailed guidance -- specifically, what the procedure would be and what date would work for the school. Instead of receiving any instructions, the school simply stopped responding. Then, one morning at drop-off, I was confronted at the door by staff member Shehara. She blocked the entrance and demanded that I give her a specific last day for my child's attendance. This was done while my child was crying in fear and distress, and while other parents were lined up behind us trying to drop off their children. I asked her repeatedly if my child was allowed to attend class that day, but she replied that she "didn't know" and insisted I give her a date immediately. In the end, I had to almost ask for permission for my child to enter class, promising I would confirm the withdrawal date later that day. Only then did she allow my child to go inside. This was not the only example of pressured compliance. Shehara insisted we purchase the school's preferred diaper brand, even though we already had a large supply of another suitable brand, making us feel that noncompliance might result in mistreatment of our child. The Director, who has never been present during our drop-offs or pick-ups, nonetheless defended her staff without ever having witnessed these incidents. Rather than working with us as partners in our child's care, they created an environment where asking a simple question was treated as a disciplinary problem. As a parent, I believe in collaborating with teachers and staff, and in standing up when communication breaks down and basic respect is lacking. I expected better from a school entrusted with my child's care. It's disappointing that a parent raising a simple concern -- calmly and constructively -- could be treated as a disciplinary problem, then later confronted publicly at the school door, instead of being treated as a partner in their child's education. I share this experience in the hope it brings attention to the importance of accountability, empathy, and clear communication in childcare. Parents should be able to ask questions and express concerns without being threatened with disenrollment, ignored when seeking guidance, or put in uncomfortable and public confrontations during drop-off. I strongly urge parents to consider these experiences before enrolling at Little Scholars Academy. Your family deserves a school that values transparency, respect, and true partnership with parents.
