They both went on to Crean Lutheran High School and master's degrees at Concordia, and Cal Poly/SDSU. This school is small enough that the parents have a say in things that are heard by the staff and acted upon. If you want to be involved in a family run education, I would highly recommend Oakridge!

The class sizes are very small about 10-20 students per class and for younger kids, the teachers are so sweet and loving and they get a lot of attention due to the class size. Ms. Wolfe and Ms. carnahae got teaches of the OC before and they truly are wonderful teachers that makes thing fun for the kids. I still remember all the projects very fondly. 5th grade at Oakridge is considered middle school. At first, I was worried if it's too early but they prepped them well and these kids are ready. They are so independent communicating with the teachers and checking and submitting their own assignments online. And the middle school teachers are all so wonderful! My kid especially loves the science teacher, Mr. Thatcher bc he is funny and also explains things well to them. He got nominated as teacher of OC this year. They also offered a lot of after school programs for middle school, they started having their own sport teams for boys and girls. This year, my kid started showing interesting in volleyball and basketball and it's very good opportunity for her to try bc practice happens at school and most games were at the campus as well. She now told Me she wants to try soccer next as well. This place might not have the fanciest structures but it's the people and the community matters that makes things great! The parents are so involved and welcoming...we pretty much know all of the kids and parents from different grades there.

My child attended Kinder through 4th grade, 2018-2023. Ms. Rubio was the only principle at the time and is now on leave, no surprise there. She is garbage. My child was bring bullied and singled out by the kids, I reported this to the new principle who is still there, a male now. My child's teacher, 3rd grade teacher at the time, and counselor who is still there, who is also garbage. All in turn for all of them to tell me its my childs fault for being bullied and singled out. They had the nerve to ask me why he doesn't play with the other kids.. Hello!! He's being singled out! Also his 3rd grade teacher didn't like when my child told her Her tone was too high. They talk about speaking up but when the kids defend them selves "they are out of line" not of the staff told me my child was outta control, he yelled or did anything to disrespect them just that he spoke up once and that he doesn't play with the out the kids. All they did was roll their eyes. The counselor lady is the worst, telling me to get my child therapy instead of addressing the the kids that picked on him. They avoided that. The male principle didn't say anything at all. His 3rd grade teacher mad because my son spoke up for himself. Total garbage school. I transferred my child after the 4th grade only to see if 4th grade was better. it only got worse.. accusing my child. I had to take him to therapy all they do is hide all the bs.

About a month ago, I did the normal routine of picking up my son from class. He had received a sticker for "bravery". Thinking nothing of it, maybe falling and not crying, or going down a big slide, I just congratulated my son and that was that. It wasn't until that night where my son informed me that he didn't want to go to school anymore because he was scared of his teacher leaving him. They had taken their first trip to the big kids restroom and his teacher left him in the stalls. If it weren't for A 6TH GRADER hearing him crying in the stalls and helping him find his way back to the classroom, I don't know how much longer it would have taken the teacher to realize he was missing. I spoke to her and the principal about this, NOTHING was done. The fact that the teacher forgot my son and didn't bother informing me at all, and NOTHING being done. Pissed me off. Yesterday, was a holiday sing a long. It was HOT. While 1st-6th graders sat in shady benches, 5 year olds were to sit on the pavement in the sun for an hour while the principal and teachers stood in the shade. I saw the principal stand in the shade drinking her cold water bottle several times...while the little kindergartners who USUALLY go up first to perform so they can leave right away since they are small and in the sun, sat and were forced to bare the heat until the dismissal bell rang an hour later. 40 year old in the shade and hot and dehydrated so it's fine to drink water right? What about OUR kids, OUR 5 YEAR OLD KIDS.?! The same damn teacher who forgot my son in the stalls did a "head count" and forgot my son AGAIN. I was watching from afar hoping she would realize he's not with them and she would turn back. But nothing. My son was getting worried and searching for his teacher, so I went over to him and was gonna take him with me to the office to complain again. Until my old preschool teacher( who was the ONLY one barring the heat with the little ones sitting with them on the floor) informed me that there's another classmate that isn't hers. That's TWO kids. Angrily I walked back to the classroom, passing by other kindergarten teacher who had stayed by the benches to do a name check,(thank you Mr. hunter) The teacher was already realizing kids to parents, so I stay in line with both kids and ask her if she KNEW she forgot not only my SON but another classmate as well?! Her response? "Oh well we would have found them EVENTUALLY" "Can you just please go express your concerns to Mrs Rubio(Principal)" I called the district. No call back I want to actions done. This is pathetic. With all these shootings and chaos in the work and for a teacher to forget her students either no remorse. It's disgusting. I received an email from that teacher this morning stating the issue is she doesn't have enough parents helping her and her solution is to cancel any event, activity or field trip if she doesn't have parents able to help her take care of her classroom...hmmm so your solution is to blame the parents for loosing track of the kids? I have yet to receive a call back from the school district.

Fletcher's been a great school since Mrs. Cardenas took over as principal in 2023-2024. For one, in…read morea matter of months during her rookie year, Mrs. Cardenas swiftly and soundly solved all the staffing problems that had affected Fletcher for 3+ years. Also, you can tell that Mrs. Cardenas really cares about the kids. From empathizing with a first grader over chipped nail polish to agreeing to kiss a live pig to motivate the student body, she exemplifies relatable warmth. I genuinely like the teachers that have taught my daughter so far. Her kindergarten teacher is a miracle worker. In her soft-spoken way, she can calm the rowdiest room of 5- and 6-year-olds and teach them good socio-emotional skills. She devotes so much attention to helping EACH child, from researching resources for the parents to use to notifying parents about little things that affect children's social dynamics. Her observation skills are off the charts! Further, she individualizes education to children's skill levels. She had some kids learning first-grade material and writing 5+ sentence paragraphs all while in kindergarten. Her compassion, dedication, and insight will forever make a HUGE difference in our family. The first-grade teachers are similarly awesome. They exude friendly fun and nurturing sweetness. And they care so much about their students and are soooo patient with them! My daughter's teacher has even responded to my texts at 10:00 pm and over the weekend to answer my questions! They go above and beyond to make each child feel seen, heard, and oh so special, and they create a safe, enriching spot for each child to grow. One of the most veteran, knowledgeable, and caring teachers at Fletcher is a first-grade teacher there, and her classroom is consistently quiet with all kids on task. When was the last time you heard of a first-grade classroom like that?! First grade also individualizes learning as well, and they cut the fluff that comes with certain elementary school instruction. One of the first-grade teachers won Teacher of the Year this year, and the kids responded with an uproarious cheer and could not stop chanting her name. And my 4-year-old is in love with another first-grade teacher because she really took the time to interact with him when he visited the classroom for Open House. Hence, I love the academic and social environment in first grade! Lastly, I have to give a shoutout to the amazing PTSA that Fletcher has had since we've been here. They have sooo many great programs for ALL the students and enthusiastically try to get as many students involved as possible. Elaborate trunk-or-treats, dazzling carnivals, animal presentations, assemblies, reindeer runs, Reflections, various holiday celebrations, and art/music/science classes...you name it! There are also fabulous after-school clubs and extracurriculars at Fletcher including running club, esports, math and reading clubs, homework help, Mandarin competition clubs, etc. However, what I believe really separates this PTSA from many others is their willingness to listen to parents and students and make their visions a reality. For instance, one parent wanted to have a talent show, and some other parents wanted a field day. PTSA listened, snapped its fingers and funded the events, and these events all happened for the first time at Fletcher in a long time. Similarly, another parent wanted to help expose 1st to 6th graders to the higher-level problem-solving and test-taking skills that comes with math competitions. Mrs. Cardenas and PTSA, and some dedicated fifth-grade teachers, found ways to make this happen. I was so impressed! When we told our parent friends from the Placenta-Yorba Linda School District about all the offerings at Fletcher, they said, "Whoooaa! You would only get that at fancy private schools!!" All in all, Fletcher's a fabulous school. And because of Mrs. Cardenas and PTSA, you can also think of it as a school where your voice matters, a school that WILL take your ideas for change and implement them. I encourage parents who care, who want to make a difference in their child's educational environment, to send their kids to Fletcher. The Mandarin education is top-notch, but there is no difference between how the school treats its MIP students and its students who aren't in the Mandarin program (i.e., don't feel that your kids HAVE TO be in the Mandarin program if they're at Fletcher). All benefit from the unique educational opportunities that Fletcher offers, and I'm so grateful for it.
