Watch out for those darn weeds, they sting!
    Derek B.

This review is based off the sports facility and sports fields, as I participated in an event there recently. The good: Covered parking (solar panels, awesome) keeps cars a bit cooler in the punishing heat. Clean, well-stocked bathrooms that are ADA-accessible The bad: Some of the fields are a far walk from the parking lot/s. If the covered parking is full, then I feel bad for you...but at least you can get a workout hauling all your equipment to the field. The ugly: The actual fields are in rough shape. Sharp, thorny weeds abound. They aren't as noticeable during the cooler, damper months; when it gets hot and dry, however, you can see them EVERYWHERE. These suckers stick to anything and everything and they can hurt. You will probably track some back to your car, so I recommend checking your socks and equipment before they ruin your car's floormats and invade your yard also. If not for the fact that this is primarily a school, I would rate much lower. I don't want to detract from the school's reviews on the education and staff, therefore 4/5 stars (but really 2/5 for the fields).

Some fine teachers, led by the beloved Mr Fisher in Orchestra. Amazing lifetime achievement over many, many years.

They really only have one way in and one way out which makes dropping your kid off a 30 minute nightmare trying to get out of the single file lines.

The selection of textbooks for core curriculum is so far fetched that 3 of my son's private tutors, all with PhD degree, shook their heads constantly because they had to they struggle with the CPM material - the so-called college grade stuff. 2. Integrated Science is a joke. It combines so many stuff into a single course and in the end the students suck at all of them. 3. It does not offer anywhere near the number of AP courses available at other Irvine high schools. 4. Some middle-aged female math and science teachers are totally irresponsible and out of whack. These people won't survive a week in the real world. Yeah, trust your sons and daughters with these bunch of losers. I gave 1 star and it is for those few hard-working teachers. I'll definitely move out of the NHS boundary when my daughter goes to high school. Good luck and goodbye.

This highly…read morerated public high school quickly transitioned to an online learning environment, but only provided one synchronous lecture per week for each class. As our son, and many of his classmates, fell further and further behind in their online classes, we repeatedly reached out to the school administration, including the principal, as did the parents of our son's school friends. However, the school's administration was uniformly unresponsive to our concerns. So, we decided to take our son out of the public school system, and place him in a private school. Our son transferred to Pacific Academy during his junior year of high school. I really can't say enough good things about our experience at Pacific Academy over the past almost two years. Everyone from the principal to the teachers and administrative staff have all been amazing. They are all very passionate about their mission to educate their students, as well as to help their students grow and develop into well-rounded young men and women. The small class sizes allow for a very personalized approach to teaching, and both the teachers and the principal are very interactive and collaborative with parents. The quality of teaching in all of our son's classes has been exceptional, and all of his teachers have welcomed engagement with us. (Unlike at the public high school our son previously attended.) I would especially like to recognize the principal at Pacific Academy, Keith Corpus, and the Director of Student Affairs, Jasmine Hsu. Their dedication, compassion, and empathy towards their students, and their families, has been extraordinary. They have both also been tremendously supportive as students, parents, and teachers have all worked together to manage the enormous (and ever-changing) impact of the pandemic. Honestly, we have come to view Mr. Corpus and Ms. Hsu as if they were part of our family, and we are so grateful to them for their dedication and commitment to their students, including our son. My only regret is that we did not transfer our son to Pacific Academy sooner. We love this school, and its faculty and staff, and we are so grateful that our son has been able to attend Pacific Academy!

She did an abysmal job at explaining and teaching. Rude and totally out of touch.

IMPORTANT PSA - PLEASE READ!!!!!!!!!…read more Despite being local to where our family lives and being suburban (which is very peaceful for middle class people like us!) and being in the center of a supportive community, the school environment is just SO atrocious. I put both of my kids into this school: 9th grade son preparing for a medical education, and 11th grade daughter committing to MIT (so excited for her!). With construction happening around the school, incoming students should expect a very disruptive learning experience as they proceed through their education here. Even with new facilities and the renovated campus, the relationships between student and teacher hasn't been repaired at all. Ever since my son transferred into this school, his grades dropped from straight A's to high C's and low B's. I emailed one of his teachers inquiring about the drastic grade drop and his negative remarks regarding one his classes, and all I got was "Sorry, we can't really do anything now." What type of school disregards a student's education and future in such manner?!?!? The only classes my son has gotten A's from were from online summer classes at different schools!!! My daughter on the other hand, the valedictorian for her class, told me about her being bullied by her peers and heavily peer pressured into vaping within one of her clubs. She had also reported the teachers not putting any effort into giving their students an enjoyable learning experience, relying just on videos and telling the students to "just study on your own I guess." NOT TO MENTION - my children have gotten food poisoning on many occasions; I had to resort to packing lunch for them and making sure they are well fed. I have taken them out of this horrible school and transferred them to another school. PLEASE do your research prior sending your students here, you'll thank me later.
