This review is based on our experience attending a basketball tournament at Orange Lutheran High School. Their facilities are very nice. When you walk in, they have an upper court and a lower court, and everything is clean and well laid out. They also have a waiting area where kids can sit, talk, and stay engaged. The whole place feels organized and almost like a college campus. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Five stars for a great tournament environment. My wife and I do Doordash to supplement our retirement. We are in our 70's and we enjoy being out in the sun and meeting new people. Today we experience uncalled for anger and demeaning attitude from a "gentleman" at the welcome center. Our instructions were "to leave it at the door" of the center. My wife did as instructed and then was spoken down to by a man in a black polo shirt. He asked her if she was leaving trash to which she explained that she was following the delivery instructions "to leave a the door". He then with attitude on his voice said "we have a table inside for that". To which my wife said, "if we deliver here again we will do just that". I was a minister of the Gospel for 30 years and have never seen anyone be spoken like that on a Christian campus. I just thought someone should know that his attitude did not manifest Christ's love. This is such a great school. My kid has been thriving since he started here. The faculty and staff are caring individuals, and many are OLu alumni. They have great facilities for instruction, the arts, and of course sports. If you have an athlete, this is a top school. They have trainers on staff to support the kids, in addition to the coaches. It is a bit expensive, but we found it worth it for our child. read more

This school was great starting out with but it slowly got worse as my child got older. At Orange Lutheran people have free periods and in the past people have been able to sign themselves out with parent consent during their free period this is no longer the case. My child went to sign themselves out today and they said this rule is no longer in policy. This is outrageous. My child should be able to go home when he pleases when he does not have class, especially with my consent With this and the uniforms and the overpopulation of the school, I am not going to send my second child here my child is a senior he deserves rights. This is outrageous and I want my student to be able to come home when he does not have class if he pleases. read more

I will admit Orange Lutheran used to be a good school. Although Olu has gone DOWNHILL they have taken students rights from them, they have a VERY tiny parking lot that only fits the seniors and the rest of the kids have to park in the sears parking lot down the street, students are bringing in cocaine to the school, teachers are having affairs with students and much more. First it was the dress code implemented for no good reason. What made Olu stand out was that it was a private school without dress code and that's what made the school unique. Then it was them over populating the school bringing in 400 FRESHMAN!! Then it was them taking away senior rights and no longer allows them to leave during their free periods. Notice how all the good reviews are from years ago and the bad one are recent. read more

OLU is the best of both worlds providing a quality education through a Christ-centered lens. Students have daily prayer, attend bible courses, & gather for uplifting worship each week. Academically, students are instructed by teachers passionate about the subject who truly want them to understand the material & succeed. Counselors are responsive and caring. Hockey coaches are exceptional. We have one graduate, one currently enrolled, & two more on the way. Our family is of a different Christian faith but couldn't be more pleased with our OLU experience. read more

Great school, caring teachers, God centered education, amazing sports programs. Clubs, volunteer oppy's missions, top academic rigor and great communication from teachers. Daughter started here as a freshman. The only negative is 1) the tuition about $20k and even paying that amount they don't offer any kind of shuttle or bus service for those that commute. It's very challenging. There's a group of us that carpool from Huntington Beach and it is not ideal. If our daughter were to leave the school, the reason would be the transportation situation. I wish they had a campus in one of the beach cities! read more

As a parent of this school their school's blatant disregard for students' voices and well-being is infuriating! How dare they announce a mandatory uniform policy after everyone has already paid their outrageously expensive tuition fees? And to add insult to injury, we're now expected to fork out even more money for their hideous merchandise, with no opportunity to voice our objections. It's a slap in the face to every student who chose this school for reasons beyond just their bottom line. And don't even get me started on their so-called "survey" from last year! They asked for our children opinions on a dress code and then completely ignored us! It's like they think they can just trample all over our rights and opinions without consequence. And what's with their skewed priorities? Sports funding over everything else? It's absurd! Meanwhile, they're gouging us for basic necessities like food. And their excuse about the uniform policy being for "safety"? That's a load of garbage! It's nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to strip away our individuality and take our money. The audacity of this school to claim they care about students while systematically stripping away our autonomy and dignity is sickening. It's time we stand up and demand better treatment from these money-hungry administrators! On top of that they have turned their phones off to parents who worry about this pathetic dress code that will surely lead to even more bullying as it looks stupid. It is also uncomfortable and provides students with a distraction from their education as they must constantly worry about teachers and staff hounding them over their shirt simply not extending two inches over their pants when they themselves let their bare feet roam the classroom and school. I am sick and tired of staying silent and in the shadows powerless over MY CHILDS education and future. The decisions these administrtors make have ABSOLUTELY NO help to my children. This school is a nightmare when it comes to respecting student freedom and privacy. The administration oversteps its boundaries, monitoring and punishing students for activities outside of school that have nothing to do with academics or safety. It feels more like a surveillance state than a place for education. Instead of fostering trust and independence, the school enforces arbitrary rules and uses its power to control students' personal lives. The lack of respect for basic rights is alarming, and it's clear the system is more about maintaining control than supporting student growth. I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone who values freedom and privacy. Not to mention that student get punished with suspension or even kicked out of the school based on what we do outside of school. Some Student really struggle with problems like addiction at home and to be punished for something a student is struggling with mentally is absolutely outrageous. The administration at this school only cares about themselves and the schools persona to make themselves look good and if any students have problems like this at home, they kick them out to make sure there school and themselves get their perceived reputation. No regards for privacy, no student freedom, students have zero privacy outside of school, and if you are thinking about sending your child to this school, I would strongly advice you rethink this. This is on paying to use the Theater for a community dance studio recital. In previous years, the Theater staff was wonderful. I don't know what happened to them after the silly Covid shut down, but new people in charge are not nice and not easy to work with considering the amount of money that they charge to use the Theater. Too many unnecessary new rules, one being your have to use their people to video your show. That would be fine if they did a good job, but it was not good. The person that we normally used does a much better job! All I can say is they are presenting themselves as a Christian belief school....they sure don't act like it! I am a Christian and I believe they should be a better example. You have a wonderful Theater, but you should remember that the difference studios are paying a lot of money and should be treated like a valued customer. Get your old staff back! read more

My daughter's grades and motivation to attend school have improved!!! We are soo content with the teachers, management. She had made good friends, and you can tell teachers care about the students and their learning, work hard and help us to be involved with their learning experience. Also have soo many fun events for students and parents . I'm happy my daughter is learning about The Bible makes me want to learn with her . We never did that before. read more

I forgot to update on this earlier but there's now a new dress code standard that they're starting upholding next year that was announced after tuition was paid and class schedules were turned in (coincidence i think not). The tuition is overwhelmingly expensive already and now the school is asking students to pay for more clothes just for school. When asking "How can people that aren't rich afford this new dress code" there were responses such as "they will provide free pants and shirts". However, they have not provided any help with apparel for the upcoming school year. They constantly say "it's for the safety of the school" but personally I don't see how forcing people to buy more stuff at this already expensive school rather than enforcing stricter security rules is helping the safety of the campus. Although the teachers are great, the OLu administration is a greedy and selfish organization hiding behind the words "christian values". read more

The school has updated their dress code after all the students have reenrolled in their garbage school. They did not wish to put in the effort to actually improve their dress policy so changed the whole thing to simply wearing their branded clothing. This is clearly an effort to regain the money they wasted on their terrible and ugly merchandise by forcing its students to spend a lot of money on their expensive and horrendous merch. They called this dress code the inexpensive, moneysaving option, however they are not giving the shirts for free, they will be charging the students! Because the students have already reenrolled in the school, they cannot transfer because they already paid the exorbitant tuition and the refund policy is bad. Juniors turning seniors are the ones getting the worst part of the deal because they will buy these ugly clothes and will not use them after their senior year! This new policy clearly suppresses self-expression in students and is the worst option they could have made. If they had chosen to full send on uniforms, it would have been better because uniforms aren't as ugly as their cheap merchandise. And if they had simply improved their dress code, it would have shown that they actually cared to put in effort into this decision. This change is a clear cop-out that they forced upon students who already enrolled in the school, not knowing about this new policy. None of the student body enjoys this page and the drop out rate will definitely go up. This is a sleazy "reform" that OLu made to increase revenue and suppress student self-expression and creativity. read more

A school is as strong as it's teachers... and Orange Lutheran teachers are some of the most creative, loving and forward thinking educators I have seen in my 25 years in education. There seems to be no question of how amazing OLU teachers are (even with the negative yelp reviewers) My son attends OLU and I have had the honor or serving and getting to know some of the admin team and all the heart, prayers and intentionality that goes into running that high school. Let's face it, High School is a very complex environment to "control and make perfect" there are so many layers that their Leadership and staff have to tackle and no matter how hard they work and try to instill/carry forth the OLU mission/vision the uphill battle is real! We are parenting and education against a very dark and evil agenda trying to destroy our youth and families. I feel confident that my son is overseen by adults who love God and have his best Interest in mind. With that to say...Is every staff member perfect and on par with every requirement, no! is every student and parent at OLU living their best Christian life, no. That's not reality, you will never find any institution without flaws or its own set of issues. I believe the Orange Lutheran community far exceeds the level of excellence with its leadership, faculty, students, and intentional parents beyond any other high school I have seen in Orange County. Mrs Ehret is the best person I have ever met! she is super nice and helpful and she does everythung to make anyone happy! she is amazing and i love her! OLU has a beautiful campus and facilities, but on the inside the last thing your formative teen is getting is a traditional Christian teaching. The standard of education is not the greatest, but it is certainly above average in many respects. As far as the Christian-based education the school claims, I've found that many of the kids come out confused about traditional marriage, abortion and some are even confused about the existence of God. I guess much of it depends on what you view as Christian doctrine regarding the important issues of our day, light vs darkness. It's not a matter of differing opinions it's a matter of what is the truth and what is false teaching and I have found that many graduated confused about what the truth is, which is a shame. read more

OLu is a great school with academic excellence. The curriculum is rigorous and there are so many options that fulfill the needs of all the students. They have an excellent STEM program, an award winning Art department and the English department is staffed with wonderful instructors & published authors. They have an outstanding theology program also. The sports teams not only are strong competitors in the toughest league, but they develop their athletes to be the best they can be on and off the field/court. read more

So shocked and surprised by these low ratings. My son is currently a sophomore and we are more than thrilled with OLU! It has wonderful academics and top notch sports and a arts program you won't believe. So many honors and AP classes available. A ton of clubs your kids can be part of in a nurturing and loving environment. They even have a therapy dog on campus! My other son will be starting in the fall and we CAN'T wait! I highly recommend a tour and a shadow day for your child. You will NOT be disappointed! read more

This school is amazing! This was the last school in the Trinity league we looked at before our son committed here. Our son is a student athlete and loves the campus and environment. When I met with his Coach (Rod Sherman) we didn't even talk about his sport. The school just hired him and all we talked about was faith and development. Every teacher, trainer, counselor, administrator, security guard, alumni, bus driver, janitor and coach he has had is outstanding. Not just in their professional field, but as mentors and care givers of safety and advancement of our young people. It also tells you a lot about the parents who send their children to this establishment. The principal and her staff care, and the athletic director (Vince Brown) is second to none. There is a great mixture of kids from multiple backgrounds from African American, Polynesian, Asian, Caucasian and many others. To top it off, this new coach and staff gifted our son, his teammates and their families with a CIF Championship in our son's first high school semester. OLu is a great school, filled with great people, growing great young women and men for the future. read more

My senior niece, sophomore daughter and niece all currently attend OLU. My husband is class of '91. Impressed with the academics they offer. Teachers have an incredible way to connect with the students. Couldn't be more pleased. However, was taken aback yesterday, when I attended a performance by the drama students at the school. As we made our way to our seats, and tried sitting on a particular row, we were denied sitting on that row by an attendant because the principal, her son and husband were sitting on that row? Baffled, I asked again, why couldn't we take seats on that, otherwise empty row, and was informed once again that the principal and her family were sitting on that row, to pick another row.. Seriously? Mr. Moritz-- the executive director was at the same show and no such request was made.. He sat among the crowd.. Interesting and baffling all at the same time. We have always been impressed by this school which is why we sent my daughter who is now a Senior and my son who is a freshman. Their Academic program as well as their athletic program and Arts program (performing as well as graphics etc.) are 5 star all the way. My daughter has blossomed as a Student,Dancer and artist. To the point she even has her own online business where she sells her art in various forms internationally! My kids are thriving at this school. Best of all it's a Christ Centered school where they live in line with what they teach. The Teachers and Administration really do care about each individual student. As a freshmen, I have to say that this school has done everything it can to prepare me for college. The block schedule really helps with the homework load that comes with the classes, which allows students to really challenge themselves with tough courses since they know that it'll be a lot harder to fall behind in homework. We've got some amazing academies like our STEM program, Humanities Academy, and even a business academy that prepare students for whatever career they're hoping to pursue. The campus really amazes me as to how safe it it. Although I would like an armed security to be present, I've really seen nothing that would raise any eyebrows. Students feel safe leaving their backpacks and purses unattended even though it's common knowledge that almost every student's bag has an iPad in it (probably because there are so many cameras). All technology that's left behind by students finds its way to the Success Center and can easily be reclaimed by its owner. The academics are another great part of OLu, with a huge variety of classes for STEM, the arts, and English. I personally am in love with the STEM opportunities this school provides, such as marine biology, molecular genetics, and engineering courses. Students have the option to take AP courses starting on their sophomore year, and the teachers make sure they do everything they can to help them succeed. Also, our arts department is strong in both visual and performing arts, and I'd definitely recommend checking out our musicals and plays some day. The theology department is the one thing I have an issue with. Going into this school, I had assumed we'd be studying and analyzing the word of God, but was unpleasantly surprised to find out that most of it is busy work (that might only be the case for theology 1). A large portion of the things we learned was simply memorization. When we finally started taking Bible notes, I made the mistake of taking analysis notes rather than pure factual notes, which in turn caused me to do badly on our first quiz on reading. They stress importance not on the meaning behind the verses, but rather on things like dates and places. Going on the assumption that the next three years of credit I need will be the same as the first, I decided to do theology online so that I could get it out of the way quicker. Once again, I might be wrong to say that the rest will be the same, but it's not a risk I'm willing to take since it might become a burden to me that has no benefits. I still have a lot to learn about this school, so my opinion might change for better or worse. But from what I've seen so far, I'm sure I'll be ready to take on college when my time at OLu comes to an end. read more

In a couple of weeks, my son will be beginning his senior year at OLu. Wow those years flew by! I can honestly say that he has received a top-notch education. He has been challenged in his classes, been able to participate in sports, choir, and a variety of other programs that are not available at other schools such as Princeton Review to prepare for the ACT/SAT exams. He is very prepared for college. Over the summer, OLu offered a college essay writing class and other college prep programs. The teachers REALLY care about every student. The counselors are awesome and extremely helpful. With regard to the previous reviewer, discipline is taken very seriously. My son has been playing football since his freshman year and I don't know of any expelled player that has been brought back to play football. It is true that only the seniors can park on campus. The students that park at the Orange Mall hop on an OLu bus that takes them right to campus. No big deal! Sending our son to Orange Lutheran High School has been the best educational decision we made. He attended public school from K - 6th and then transferred to a private school. Olu is an amazing school that will give your child a solid education with Christian values. Worth every penny! read more
