Alexis is an angel! Love love love her! I had been dealing with some personal matter and because of that rescheduled 5 times or so and they were accommodating, sweet and super understanding. What to expect at Coven: first is a warm welcome, then they show you around, in the back their is a place for your coat, if you want to wear a vintage tee shirt to protect your top, you can. They will grab you a drink and keep you company while you get pampered! It's the best! I highly recommend a visit to Coven if you're feeling like you or your hair is in need of a little TLC! One recommendation, get on the books early, Alexis books about 8 weeks out. read more

If you have curly hair and need a great haircut, ask for Ollie! I have a big and long curly hair and been trying the Deva cut in Seattle for the last three years, but never been too happy about it. Ollie made magic! My hair is revived and the layers are just perfect. Totally recommended! read more

I saw Jane for a curly cut about 4 weeks ago (my first time to Coven) and am so pleased with the results. I went in kind of wishy-washy (like, "cut my hair a little, do whatever you need to do to make it feel healthy, not too short though, I trust you... etc) and Jane was able to work magic on my curls. They feel super healthy and are easy to style. Curly girls tend to be super particular with who cuts our hair and I would definitely recommend Jane for the job! read more

I have been seeing Sara for two years now and I would trust no one else with my platinum hair. She is considerate and listens to what I'm looking for, as well as a perfectionist when it comes to achieving the perfect blonde for me. Plus she's always fun to chat with! read more

Just got my first hair cut there with Jennifer, who was great! She took the time to look at my hair and listen to my thoughts and then did what she thought was best while explaining why. I'll definitely be going back! read more

Dez has forever changed my relationship with my hair. Prior to my first cut with Dez, I was only getting cuts when I needed them weeks ago and going to cheaper salons. I have thicker, mixed, curly hair that doesn't really abide to any one "type". Dez did a quick run through my hair and instantly knew how to address it. She taught me a few tricks to get my hair styled in less than 3 min. Usually I leave a salon shorter but frizzy, unstyled (unless I paid 30$ to straighten it) hair. I left with Dez with i mean literally the best set of natural curls that I now replicate on a daily basis. Highly highly recommend seeing Dez for those with mixed hair types! read more

The salon owner reached out after I posted my review. I responded to her email regarding my concerns and frustrations regarding the appointment. She never responded to my email, offered my money back, or offered to fix the cut. Left an even worse taste in my mouth and now I have to go pay for a second haircut to fix this one. read more

Coven Salon - A small "trim" after expressing that I was scared to go to a salon to get my curly hair cut and wanted to keep all my Length. - Hair Salons Near Me - Seattle, Washington

Finally a salon that understands curly hair!! Sara was an absolute gem and brought me and my curls much joy! I came to coven feeling down about my lifeless long curly hair, having had a few too many unflattering cuts that made me dread getting my hair cut. I found Coven on Yelp and had to give it a try. I had some ideas for Sara but she honestly read between what I was saying and produced a fantastic cut that boosted both my curls and confidence!! She showed me tips and tricks to perfecting the look at home with minimal effort to boot. I walked out gleaming and couldn't stop smiling all day. Other than Sara's talents, I also loved the affordable price point, beverage selection, bumble & bumble products, and the friendly and chill vibe (turning a blind eye to the creepy taxidermy). THANK YOU Sara and Coven!! read more

Coven Salon - Finished hair by Sara made me smile all day! Thanks for making my curls live again! - Hair Salons Near Me - Seattle, Washington

The low star rating is because of one specific stylist. I am sure the other stylists there are great. However, Sara was quite rude to me. I went there one time months ago, my experience there still bothers me so I'm finally writing a review. She seemed to be in a bad mood because her appointment before me finished late due to the client being unhappy with her hair. I was totally fine with the land tried to signal to her that I wasn't mad (I didn't want her to worry that I wouldn't tip her; lateness happens, not a big deal). However, her bad mood affected the way she talked to me. She made a tasteless joke about how frizzy my hair is ("The frizz is strong with this one"), which is a big insecurity of mine. She kept asking me if I was seriously going to have a keratin treatment that evening (I was also having my hair dyed first, but had confirmed when scheduling that it was okay to do this process followed by keratin). And in the middle of my keratin treatment, she told me she was bored from working on my hair. I get that bad days happen, but I wish she hadn't taken it out on me. I intend to never go back to Coven due to embarrassment. If you consider going to this salon, I would choose a different stylist. Edit: Alexis, this is not my real name. Not sure what's going on with your records though. Maybe because it was Keratin Express? And Veggie Dye? Anyway, I don't really want to reveal more because I don't want to be identified. read more

I have been going to Coven for years and love it so much! I originally learned about it because I was looking for recommendations for curly/wavy hair, and did a search on Yelp where I found Dez who, from all of the reviews, appeared to be a superhero for dealing with curly hair. They were right - Dez is amazing! I love what she does with my hair! In addition, she is so funny, so welcoming, and has a beautiful heart. The same is true for the overall Coven salon - you can feel the love and respect they have for each other; it feels rare and super healing to be in a business/work environment that cares about each other as they do. I walked out of the salon that day (and so many after) thinking, "how did I get so lucky to find Dez and this salon?" I just saw a review this morning about the salon and Dez that was so nasty, entitled, and heartless. The person was angry because their appointment needed rescheduling because Dez has an upcoming surgery. Knowing how hard it must be to have to take this leave, and how hard Dez has been working on every level to deal with everything - working through intense pain all of these months while ensuring all of us as clients are impacted as minimally as possible - it makes me really sad that someone would have the lack of heart to come after her like this. There is so much more to say about how awful that post is in so many ways as a reflection of our current culture, but I'd prefer to avoid deeper debate on Coven's page. So I'd rather turn this back to how wonderful Dez and Coven are. Seriously, if you know Dez, you know why she is so sought out. She is exceptionally skilled with hair and is among the most beautiful humans I have ever met! read more

All my naturalistas, come see about Alexis! In all my days, I have never received service or a haircut so great! #1- Champagne offered upon entry! #2- Alexis is the absolute greatest! I chilled in her chair, told her about my natural hair journey (no big chop- stop straightening about a year ago) and she knew my concerns and how to style my hair in a way that matched my personality. and she takes you step through step of the cut to assure your happy with your result. I've received compliments galore on my cut over the past week. I'm in love with this place! Hack my hair off any day. read more

I don't think you understand how many expensive, bad haircuts I've gotten in my 30 years. My hair is curly and looks best when cut dry, but it's not so curly that it looks good with the bulk of the hair being in the shorter layers. No matter what I say to a stylist, the usual result is a poodle / mullet look, with the shorter layers springing up prettily and the longer layers stretching ever downwards. Jenna is an absolute wizard. I came to her a couple of months ago with a grown-out bad cut, and instead of restructuring the entire haircut (like every single stylist I've ever been to), she worked with what I had and explained what I'd need to wait for. She explained everything in detail before she cut. She took her time, but still managed to finish in 20 minutes. I feel so much better about my looks when my hair is cut well, and until now, it's been a lucky accident that only happens when a new stylist cuts my hair for the first time. Well, I just had my second cut with Jenna today, and my hair just keeps looking better. I'm thrilled. Plus a million self-esteem points. Thanks, Jenna! Edit: Not to mention, the stylists work as a team, they're kind & patient, and they have a knack for making the most anxious, picky lady feel at ease. read more

Ladies, there are 3 things you should spend a little extra on: 1. A pair of REAL leather riding boots. No, not the PVC crap that's going to wear through before next season. The kind that fit like a glove and smell like I imagine Benedict Cumberbatch perpetually smells. 2. The bottle of wine that is one price point up from the cheapest. Trust me. 3. A good hair cut! Any of the fine ass ladies at Coven will assuredly be able to deliver you an equally fine ass hair cut. I have seen both Emily and Alexis and have been more than happy with my cuts. I have curly and very frizz prone hair and they know how to handle my lions mane like champs. If you have curls, you need to make an appointment here this instant. Your hair should not look like a pyramid or any similar configuration and you need to start seeing someone who knows how to cut curls. In addition, the salon space and vibe is welcoming and laid back and they offer tee shirts to change into during your service and complimentary booze. Ample parking around the space and online appointments are convenient. You're going to pay a little more for a cut, but honestly ladies, its worth it. I don't believe Emily takes new clients anymore but Alexis is great with curls and a total doll. Finally I have found a salon where I leave with amazing hair and not hair I feel I have to immediately put up into a hair tie until I can get home and figure out what to do with it. read more

Had to addend to rave about my newest haircut from Ayla! I finally went for the big chop and got an undercut for my curly hair, which may be my new favorite thing (see awkward mirror selfie in photo section)! She got it perfectly and knew that it was a big change for me, so went slow with the cuts until we were both happy with the final product. Can't wait to be back for a trim! read more

Coven Salon - Undercut! - Hair Salons Near Me - Seattle, Washington

After hearing rave reviews from a couple of friends, I decided to give Coven a try. I love the name - it says feminine power, mystery, witchery, and friendship to me - so that was an extra bonus. The space is very cozy, minimal/rustic. Everyone in the salon is super sweet and easy to talk to. There are good magazines to read AND the offer of water, hot tea, or champagne. Naturally, I chose champagne. I got my hair cut by Aylah (?). I'd had platinum blonde hair earlier this year, and I was still dealing with damaged ends and formerly wavy-curly hair that just blew around in sad, dry straggles. I wanted a shoulder length, subtly a-line "lob" with blunt ends to make my thin, fine hair look thicker and sexier. But I was also feeling adventurous, so I agreed to the up-sell of toner and I also let my stylist cut my hair a little shorter than I wanted it to be, just below the chin. She did a dry cut, which is the right way to cut curly hair AND the first time a stylist has ever actually done that on me. The result is very pretty and cute, it feels and looks much more healthy, and the curl is coming back! The total cost with tip was a little over $100 for cut and toner with styling (round brush blowout) thrown in. Worth it! read more

I kept returning here on the strength of the reviews, but now that I've had 3 Bad Haircuts (!) here I question the reliability of the reviews. My haircut from Alexis was okay, but she left a visible line in my very short, fine, hair. My two haircuts from Drew were just a flat out disaster, I had to get them both re-cut by someone else. If you have straight, fine hair - go to Salon Nouveau on Beacon Hill (of all places!). Ask for Therese or Suzin - they are amazing! read more

I tried coven based on a couple of things: a recommendation from a friend of a friend and that two of the owners are former Vain stylists. My attempts at scheduling an appointment was super frustrating. I called and left two or three messages and it took a few days to get a call back. Come to find out the front desk person was in a bike accident so coven gets a pass for taking so long to call me back. When I finally did get a call back I felt rushed on the phone (think it was Jenny) to make an appointment. I specifically asked for someone who cuts curly hair and was promised a great new stylist. When I got to the salon for my appointment I had Ashle. She was perfectly nice but I didn't feel at all that she was interested in knowing about me as a new client. For example, I had to tell her that i was new to the salon, I had to initiate showing her pictures of how I've been getting my haircut. She didn't seem to want or know how to engage a new client. She also cut my hair wet which is kind of not appropriate for curly hair. My haircut was just okay, initially I hated it (lack of creativity and nuance) but it'll grow out and I'll find a different person to cut my hair. I won't be going back to coven, not impressed. read more

I just got the cutest hair cut for my curly hair from Ashle Rea at Coven Salon. This morning I kept going to my mirror to admire my hair. Thank you Ashle! Coven came up when I searched online for salons with expertise in cutting curly hair. They definitely know curly hair! In addition to the great job that Ashle did on my curly hair, I saw the beautiful jobs that the other stylists did with their clients. The salon is cozy, the energy is welcoming and Misha at the front door is an efficient sweetheart. read more

For years I'd pop around to different shops looking for someone who could cut my curly in back, wavy in front, difficult to comb hair. Usually people would cut it and I'd go home only to find a strand here or there that was significantly longer than everything else. My hair is weird so I get it. Then I meg Alexis. I have never had a bad cut and best yet I can trust her opinion and advice when it comes to what I should do with my hair. I used to dye my own hair but she does such a great job and stands by her work so now I always have her do it... it lasts way longer than when I do it myself plus she mixes up a custom color that I like even better than what comes out of the bottle as basic choices. This place is fantastic. I'm considering moving out of the city and I assure you I will commute here to get my hair cut as long as I still live within 150 miles of the shop. And no, I'm not actually kidding with that... I'd easily drive 150 miles to see Alexis. read more

Emily is THE BEST! She cuts curls, she cuts waves, she cuts straight, and she colors it all, and she it always looks fantastic. I have incredibly stubborn grey, and she has done everything under the sun to cover it up. My friends now go to Emily, and really, wha'ts a better compliment than a friend liking your hair enough to go get cut by the same person as you? Go there. Drink champagne. Get lovely. read more

Jenny Slay is the BEST and Coven has a super sweet Steel Magnolias vibe. All the ladies there are so very kind and fun - and they really care about making you look good so you can FEEL GOOD. Positive vibes abound. Their super hospitality speaks to my soul --- but Jenny's HIGHLIGHTS MAGIC is what really takes the cake. I don't know how she does it - but she can make it so the roots just BARELY show when they grow out. Also, Champagne and Raniers. And DIY manicure while your bleach is doing its bleachy business. LOVE THESE LADIES. Also - Lago accross the street has Seattle's finest antipasto plate and a good happy hour negroni menu. Meet a pal there after getting your hair done. read more

With their amazing rep for curly hair, I was excited to try Coven and was matched with Sara. The vibe of the salon was really great, but unfortunately I do not love my haircut. I feel like she didn't listen to me or give me a cut that looks good with my curl pattern so now I have to grow it out again and try another curly salon in Seattle, which is what took me to Coven in the first place. Onto the next... read more

I followed Alexis here from her previous location (yes, I'd follow her anywhere - she is THAT good!). I gotta say, I love her new place and her business partners are totally cool! I've come here twice already and I instantly feel like I'm part of the sisterhood going on here. Awesome chics, cool place, and GREAT talent! (I've seen Jenny and Emily in action - would truly trust them if Alexis weren't available) and a shop dog to keep your lap warm and a smile on your face! I mean c'mon, it's a win-win-winnity-win! read more

Coven Salon - The Coven mascot! Love her! - Hair Salons Near Me - Seattle, Washington

I went to see Dinnie at Coven today, and I had a lot of challenges to express. I don't fuss with my hair. I don't use a hair dryer. I just want to push waves in and go. My hair wants to relentlessly fall forward, so maybe bangs, but I'm old, maybe too old for bangs. The cut has to grow out well because I hit the salon every 6 months or far more. And so on. They immediately caught on to what I needed and gave me a great looking cut that capitalizes on my waves and requires no fussing. Recommended! read more

I have been going to Jenny Slay for many many years. And by going to, I mean she has seen me go through all sorts of phases in my life ranging from pixie cut to rainbow bright awesomeness. She is currently my bang therapist. The place is clean, hip, inclusive of whomever or whatever you are and more than that they are just really fucking talented. I have moved twice since starting with Jenny and still make the drive. Frankly she could move to Oregon, And I'd pitch a tent in her backyard. (Not that she'd want that or anything but who would do my hair???) read more

The absolute best! Dez is amazing. It's been a few weeks since I was last in, but each time I hear someone talk about receiving a bad haircut elsewhere, I'm reminded of how lucky I am to have a consistent place to go. Also, as someone with thick, curly hair, it means a lot to have a stylist that doesn't automatically assume you wear your hair straight... or simply gawk in horror at the mass on top of your head. If you have curly hair, see Dez. read more

It last experience left something to be desired. A lot of money for a cut that felt like barely a cut. I had to keep asking for more so I actually walked out with a cut. Especially for $70. I would like to have my hair cut by someone confident and my experience didn't feel this way. read more

I love love love Alexis, she absolutely makes my day. I followed her from Vain, and the new location is awesome- lots of parking, next to a coffee shop, and they woo you with champagne. Champagne. Just saying. Beyond the obvious talent of the three ladies, they're delightful. You're welcomed into any random conversation you're overhearing, and will inevitably spend half your appointment laughing. Hair is so tricky and personal- when someone gets it right, you're joyous. Alexis gets it right. Check them out! read more

Jenny Slay rocks the color and scissors. She has taken care of all my hair needs for over 10 years. One of the hardest things about moving out of Seattle was leaving her and her mad skillz. She has an excellent eye for color and really understands each of her clients individual hair characteristics. Not only is she talented behind the chair, she is an amazing listener and should have a degree in psychotherapy, because who doesn't tell their hairdresser everything? The woman has sage advice and an infectious laugh. Coven is where it is at!!! read more

I absolutely love this Salon! When you walk in the door, you feel welcome. Each stylist I've seen has listened to what I want, given ideas when I've asked and done beautiful work (cut and color). I have wavy straight hair. My daughter is biracial with tight curls and Alexis helped her to learn how to work and embrace her beautiful curls- it was empowering and changed how she feels about her hair. I love these women! Make an appointment- whatever your hair type, you will be so happy. read more

I recently got my hair cut by Heather Joy. at Coven. It was my first experience at the salon, and I'm very happy with the results. While it was my first time at Coven, it was not my first experience with Heather. Years ago I got a few haircuts from her that were great, and when she stopped cutting hair, I bounced around salons and stylists and never quite found someone who got the nuance of my hair. So happy she's cutting hair again. I have thin hair on top, and very straight. Often I have trouble with stylists who want to use clippers rather than give me a scissor cut, Heather did great, got the top length perfect, thinned the sides enough that as the cut had grown in, it still looks great and people are still giving me compliments. On my way out they gave me samples of a styling clay and shampoo and conditioner. I'm definitely planning on going back for another cut soon. read more

My daughter and I are totally happy with our haircuts by Emily. These were our second cuts by her. The first were great, but the second were even better! We both have thick hair. One is curly and one is wavy. Emily is truly talented and she has a lovely easy-going personality. She really makes the effort to find out what look you are going for. If you have medium to long hair and want an easy and elegant hair style which celebrates your curls or waves, ask her for the "Jane" haircut. It will be easy to remember as that is how her hair is currently cut. Shout out to Misha, Coven's wonderful and dedicated receptionist who is helpful and welcoming. read more

I have been coming to Coven for years and the team here is AMAZING! My curls are always so well taken care of at Coven. I have probably seen half of the stylists and they are all seriously talented. I cannot say enough about the amazing ladies at Coven Salon. Each one of them are friendly, welcoming, sassy, and beautiful. They make you feel incredibly comfortable. It's a wonderfully inviting atmosphere to spend some time gettin your hair did. Alexis is not only funny and inspiring, but she was able to take my hair from a deep, rich red to the most beautiful, sparkly blonde in one sitting. I can't stop looking in the mirror!! It's gorgeous!! I love it!! And don't even get me started with the cut! AMAZING! She knows what looks good on her clients and she is always able to execute exactly what I want, even though I'm not quite able to verbalize it to her. It's always such a pleasure to see her and I always look forward to sitting in her chair. I cannot say enough about Alexis. Every experience is amazing and you will always leave looking and feeling incredible. RUN!! Don't walk to Coven Salon. You will not be disappointed. read more

My oldest sister and I were born eight years apart, which as it turns out is the exact age gap that lends itself to a lifetime of mutual admiration and obsession. In 1992 I was eight, and my sister was sixteen, and she had the most glorious head of candy-apple-red hair down to her butt. HER BUTT. (I feel like it's important to mention she was *really* into with Guns N Roses, and had a poster of Duff McKagan above her bed. She wore a lot of flannel. I'm pretty sure American Apparel recently called her to see if she still has any of her old leggings, and if they could just borrow them for a few days, you know, for design purposes. This is not a yelp review on my sister, I'm just trying to paint a picture for you here.) She was so cool, and beautiful, and the world's most perfect creature as far as I could tell, and the most perfect thing about her was her hair. I still have dreams about that hair. I wanted to live in her hair, like some kind of vulnerable baby bird in a silky, vermilion nest. A chubby baby bird with hella boring brown hair. What a cruel, and twisted fate. Fast forward to a month ago. I am a grown ass woman who, for various reasons, is feeling vulnerable as that aforementioned baby bird one morning and just needing so badly to do something to make herself feel cool, and powerful, and like she's the boss of her life/destiny. Like maybe she could be the world's most perfect creature, if she could just find the place to start. And then it came to me clear as day; I needed to dye my hair candy apple red. OBVIOUSLY. The point of this verbose-ass lead-in is to illustrate how personal, and important hair is. There's so much energy wrapped up in it, and when you find someone who gets that and works super hard at helping you express all the glowy things you feel about yourself, or could feel about yourself through your hair you have stumbled upon a gift. Drew is that gift. She made all my red hair dreams come true. There was so much intention behind the questions she asked. We spent a long while looking at my Pinterest page. She took her time considering my skin tone, and eye color. She really wanted to get to the bottom of it! When I walked out of Coven with the blooming, pulsing auburn she so carefully curated atop my noggin it was all I could do not to cry with joy. I literally kicked my heels as I walked to the bus stop. What are your hair dreams? Maybe you also had a teenage sister who was too beautiful for words. Maybe you've always wanted your hair to be the exact shade of your aura. Maybe you stood on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean at sunset this one time, and the pink on the horizon brought into clear focus all the ways in which you are the universe expressing itself, and wouldn't it be something to have hair that particular incarnation of pink. I mean, I don't know, but I'll bet you Drew could help figure it all out. read more

Wow, this place deserves a major shout out. What a gem. I left my appointment with Dez feeling like a million bucks (she did a cut and all over color). Drew is a rockstar. I have fine, frizzy, mousy brown hair that's slowly going grey. Sounds sexy, right? Drew manages to give my hair color and life that is otherwise missing. This would be 4.5 stars if I could do that. My hairstylist at another salon is fantastic but broke her wrist. This sent me into a panic, okay maybe panic isn't the best word but with my curly hair mixed with my lack of any desire for something that isn't a simple wash and go freaked me out. I read a bunch of reviews and loved the name "Coven." I got an appointment with Ayla and I now I have my favorite hair cut in about 8 years. She is excellent. They have won a new customer in me. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is the salon itself, while clean and comfortable isn't as comfortable and fun as many others. Does that really matter, not really in the grand scheme of things but not everything good can be five stars ya know! I do dig it. read more

Coven Salon -not just for witches! Coven or covan was originally a late medieval Scots word (c1500) meaning a gathering of any kind. Latin root word: convenire meaning to come together or to gather. All the stylists here are stellar. I am partial to Alexis who has been making me feel beautiful for many years now. We have journeyed from very long hair, to shaved sides, bob, short pixie-type, brown, blonde, some purple... Her scalp massage during the shampoo process is otherworldly; bliss. She can do it ALL. The Salon is a laid back, comfortable place where you will be offered refreshments and invited to enjoy the back patio if you have to wait for a color process or .. whatever. There is a lovely canopy and a cool breeze in this secluded outdoor area. They have a nice line of Bumble & Bumble products but nothing is pushed on you in any way. Prices are industry standard. Neighborhood parking is a cinch. The Traveler (pub & eatery) is right across the street if you need to grab a bite or a pint before or after. read more
