In all fairness to the place, I can't rate the food because the availability of parking is nil. Yes it's by the courthouse, but, good luck trying to find parking in the area even blocks away. I believe it might be a handy spot for anyone going to court or the attorneys and judges in the area who already have designated places. There is a parking garage, perhaps a block and a half away. I would use that if it were necessary for me to go to court other than that, I would bypass this place. There's too many other places in New Orleans that serve great food with easy access to parking. Perhaps I can revisit this shit I ever have to go to court... God forbid. read more

I was in the area and I really wanted to grab a bite to eat because I was close. Outside the area this spot gives off this small little town cafe. There's Hand written signs outside that let's you know of the specials they have that day. Upon going into the spot I really got like a small but lively cafe. Do not be paranoid when you see COPS inside because apparently this is the "Courthouse Cafe". lol. I smelled the Hotcakes and it smelled really good! However, they stop serving breakfast around 10:40 -ish. I got the Mash Potato and Roast Beef with gravy(Sliced not pork roast) and a side salad. It was pretty good. My dad showed me this spot years back. The owners ask after my dad to this day--they even remember my aunt and uncle! I love it. Makes sitting in their restaurant like sitting at a family-member's dinner table. The hubby and I love having breakfast here. Coffee is always delicious. Breakfast is rollin'. I honestly had never heard of the Courthouse Cafe until recently. My experience included being escorted from across the street by some nice JPSO deputies and dining in the private room in the back. The service was super efficient, taking 14 orders and serving us our drinks, salads, entrees, and even some pie slices to-go in record time. While I settled on a salad, and it was tasty, I was drooling over the fried shrimp & fish that my companions had ordered. It looked amazing - and they agreed that it was. It was also a HUGE portion and most brought back leftovers. Looking at the menu, the prices seem completely reasonable, and worth a repeat trip the next time I find myself in Gretna. read more

Juror duty today. And I didn't feel like eating a packaged sandwich from the snack bar in the courthouse. The restaurant is a short walk from courthouse. As you walked up to the cafe, there is a handwritten menu board with the daily specials. It was crowded with a fair amount of potential jurors and employees from the courthouse. My first experience with this tiny place was 4 days of lunch in a row...had the hamburger steak which I found delicious and the other days went with one of the daily lunch specials which I always found to satisfy... I had Jury Duty this week and needed a place besides the machines in the Jury Pool room for lunch. The Courthouse Cafe is located next to the Jefferson Parish Courthouse so this is obviously a restaurant for those that work in the Parish buildings; however, in any other location it would be a typical neighborhood restaurant. The menu is a mix of New Orleans favorites - including seafood - with a dose of Italian. I had the daily meatball and spaghetti special. The salad was an uninspired heap of lettuce with commercial dressing, but the meatballs and sauce were very good as was the pasta. Service was above average. Prices were good - $10 for lunch - and there are daily specials listed by the front door. read more

So I recently got picked for a jury...it lasted 7 days. Everyday they took us to eat somewhere in walking distance from the courthouse. We got to eat at Courthouse Café 3 times! You would think, 3 times in 7 days would be too much. Not so! I choose to go with the Greek Salad each time, once with grilled chicken, and twice with grilled shrimp. Well, it was huge and super filling. They don't skimp on shrimp (like my rhyme?) Others ordered the special of country fried steak and mashed potatoes as well as fried shrimp and fish plates. Those fried seafood plates were huge! Also we all got to have pie. I had the pecan, so tasty. Lemon icebox and hot apple were enjoyed by others. The lady who took care of our 13 person party was so friendly and got us in and out as fast as possible. While I may not be back for a while, I will in fact be back! read more

Great little restaurant conveniently located in the center of Grenta right across from the Jefferson Parish Courthouse and about a two minute walk to the scenic Mississippi River. I've stopped at this place many times while traveling to the West Bank. They offer a variety of meals from fresh brewed French Market coffee and breakfast to sandwiches, plate lunches, seafoods, etc. Their portions are huge and their food is always fresh. Anyone I've ever spoken to has had only good things to say about this place. The workers are also very welcoming, friendly, and on point. I don't think I've ever had to ask for a refill on my drink. I have been a faithful daily customer for nearly 7 years. The family that owns it is from Greece and they are the sweetest people in the world. The breakfast here is outstanding. The biscuits and pancakes are made from scratch each and every morning. They also have a plethora of rotating daily specials in addition to the regular lunch menu. Highlights include the baked chicken on Tuesdays and the lasagna on Wednesdays. The chicken parmesean, which is on the menu, is delicious. All of the sauces used here are made from scratch. The brown gravy on the hamburger steak, the tzatsiki sauce on the gyro and the marinara on the chicken parm are all delicious. You will be happy with anything you order. read more
