Recently, I had an issue with my car window, and also needed an oil change. The mechanics working on things made a mistake with the window, and when I confronted the owner about it, he was super committed to making it right and the experience I had working with their staff was incredible. They made it right! I took my car here for over 4 years up until I left to move out of state, and after doing over 15+ oil changes on 2 different cars, I can tell you these guys are the real deal. They know their stuff and they have so many services all in one spot (tires, brakes, oil change, emissions, registration, mechanic work, diagnostics). I honestly don't know why any people in Utah would go anywhere else unless it's because these guys happen to be full or something haha. Just know that I had to have my alternator replaced twice in a year because these guys did so bad the first time. The owner refused to honor the warranty because it was two days over a year. They had also forgot to put my skid plate back on and they accused me of already having a warranty job done due to poor organization. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!! My niece is 18, just bought her first car (used), and is very new to cars in general. Hence, easy to take advantage of her. Her car broke down, and because she lives nearby and didn't have anyone to help her, she got it towed to Cougar Tire & Auto. Boy did they take advantage of her. They charged her $150 to run a diagnostic test, which didn't turn up any results. Even so, they went ahead and did a transmission flush for $200, a brake flush for $160, and changed her oil for $85 EVEN THOUGH SHE HAD GOTTEN AN OIL CHANGE LESS THAN A MONTH PRIOR AT JIFFY LUBE! It cost her $657 in total, which she couldn't afford in the first place, and the same day she picked up the car it broke down AGAIN. They said they were not liable but she could bring it back into them. Luckily, we had just gotten to town and were able to take it to AutoZone where a mechanic ran the diagnostics and found that there is a problem with gear 1 and gear 3. Which is a serious problem!! You should be ashamed of yourselves for taking advantage of a young girl who had no idea that she didn't have to get any of the services done. If your diagnostics test had worked, you would have found the problem with gear 1 and gear 3. And if not, why in the world did you charge my niece nearly $700 to flush fluids that would do nothing to help the issue? Can't speak to what its like to take your car here if you are a man, but if you are a woman I would stay away. Even the mechanic who helped us agreed. read more

So I've been taking my Mini Cooper to Cougar Tire and Auto for years and I've always received good service from them. But just recently I took it in because the engine kept stalling when we would stop at a stoplight or stop sign etc. Most of the time we could still get it to start back up but after it would stop a few times it would not start again until it completely cooled down. Well while I had it in the shop just recently they found the issue with it stalling. They fixed that issue but while they were looking into the engine issue they said they noticed that my stabilizer bars were unattached from the bottom end on both sides. How that both sides were unattached is beyond me, especially on the drivers side because my oldest son, who is also a mechanic changed that one a few months ago and knew without a shadow of a doubt he put that one on solid. Well they were claiming that both stabilizer bars were unattached when I brought my car in last. And they claimed that the bolts on both were severely stripped to the point they couldn't put any new nuts on them and had to be replaced. They were going to charge me over $300.00 for parts and labor. They showed me a video to prove that they were stripped. I watched the video with my son and we couldn't see that they were stripped at all. So I brought my car home and I ordered new stabilizer bars, which cost me only around $50.00 for both online. They were going to charge me over $150.00 to $200.00! My son replaced the bars today and the old bars were NOT stripped! There was nothing wrong with them!! And it only took my son about 15 minutes to 30 minutes to replace them And they were going to charge me $150.00 for labor!! Needless to say I will NOT take my car back to them!! read more

Do not come here. I rarely yelp review but my experience was too bad to not say something. First off, I call in and ask if I need to make an appointment, and the guy on the phone says "no just come in any time". So I go in right then not even 10 mins after the call, and the older guy at the front desk is an asshole acting like I'm a huge inconvenience for not having an appointment. Then they do my free brake inspection and tell me it is going to be over $1000 because I need new brake pads and rotors on the front and back of my car and an oil change. Didn't feel like that was right so I went to another place and they told me I only need my back pads and rotors replaced and the front pads and rotors (that Cougar tire said needs to be replaced) were perfectly fine and had over half their life left. And they said my oil is perfectly fine. Total ripoff, can't recommend less. Also the mechanic left his dirty used gloves on the seat of my car and didn't even throw them away read more

I made an appointment online for them to check out a slow leak on my tire on October 27th. The appointment was made for when I am in town visiting my daughter in college on Black Friday (November 25th). In the appointment section, I asked if this is something they can fix and to please reach out to me to confirm. I never received a response to my request for someone to contact me, so I called on Friday November 4th (2 weeks after making the appointment) only to find out that they are likely not going to be in that day (??) Despite the day being open and availableon their online scheduler (which they direct you to schedule online when you call in) it appears that A. They are not open and B. No one could pick up the phone or bother to email me to let me know this fact. I asked for the manager to give me a call back and as of Tuesday, November 8th, no one has bothered to call me. I called them again and they did not sound apologetic or seem to care about this mistake on their side at all. I would not suggest going here. read more

TL/DR: Paid 150 for engine diagnostic, they diagnosed the wrong problem and offered to fix it for $1000. Ended up fixing the right problem myself for less than $100 The pricing is a little ridiculous. We went in for an engine diagnostic because our engine seemed to be misfiring. After charging us 150 dollars, they gave us their very vague diagnosis they said an engine coil had failed. They said they looked at the spark plugs and that they were in "ok" shape. Said they would replace all engine coils and spark plugs for $1000. I declined and said I would do it myself they said changing that engine coil should fix most of my problems. They then offered to change just one coil and spark plug for $500. I changed the coil myself and it was still misfiring. I then decided to change out the spark plugs (I pulled them out and they were very worn) and sure enough everything works just fine now. I'm just upset that I paid $150 for them to incorrectly diagnose the engine problem and not really tell me what's going on. Fixed the problem myself for less than 1/10 the price they wanted me to pay them. read more

This place is more than just a tire shop. Don't let the name fool you. They are a full auto repair shop. I took my car in here mainly because it was very close and convenient. My car wasn't able to make it far due to the overheating coolant. I also wasn't sure if this was the best place to go with such a car issue. It was a rough process (mostly due to the more uncommon problem with my car) but overall I really appreciated the transparency and time they spent diagnosing the problem and making sure they did things right. They coordinated parts from the dealer and even with them being out of stock, they helped pull them through the suppliers. They were thorough and really wanted to do things the right way without shortcuts. They also gave me a loaner car which was really nice to be able to use. I do wish that they would have refunded me a little since initially they said they fixed my car and said I could bring it back for free if i still had problems. They did have to spend a lot of time on my car though. read more

I've heard horror stories about being overcharged and as someone with zero auto experience, I was worried I'd be taken advantage of. CTP pleasantly surprised me. They talked me through every step of the repairs they'd be making to my vehicle without making me feel ignorant. They explained how they would try to get me the best deals on parts that I needed, while still getting everything done efficiently and in a timely manner. I've returned for routine inspections over the course of the past year and have been consistently treated with the same great customer service and respect. This is an absolute scam. Twice now they have tried to tell me my car has over $500 worth of services it needs. As soon as I take it to my family members who know about cars and have them check, they teach me how they are lying to me and prove to me why my car doesn't need the things they say. I also compared their prices they were charging for these services and found they were significantly more expensive. Even when I confronted them about it, they claimed that they were offering great deals for their services. I'd stay away from them if I were you. If you want me to be more specific, one example was them telling me my upper ball joint was bad. My cousin sent me a picture of the pattern of balding that should have been present on my tires because of this. I couldn't find any, but I still asked my uncle when he helped me rotate my tires. He confirmed that there was not balding that suggested an issue with my ball joint. He also checked the joint himself and said I should have noticed my steering wheel pulling to one side, which I hadn't. Just one of many examples. His exact quote was, "Wow, you must look like you have a lot of money!" read more

I have had nothing but positive experiences here. The reason I decided to write this review is because I received a text message from them this morning thanking me for coming in. I think that's awesome that they took the time to make my experience personal. (It wasn't just an auto generated text either). I went in for the first time a few weeks ago to get a "used car inspection" because I am driving to Texas next week and I wanted to make sure that everything was running right before I left. As I expected, there were a few things that needed to be replaced, like brakes and struts. After they had inspected it, Trent called me personally to explain everything and even offered to let me come in and show me what he was talking about. He gave me a walk through around the car and showed me how worn down my tires and brake pads were and talked about my options to fix them. I only did brakes that day, but came back yesterday to get the alignment and struts fixed. Again, I was treated with courtesy and my car was taken care of promptly. They were totally upfront with their price estimates. I can't really speak for how their prices compare to other places because this was my first time getting my car serviced in Provo, but the experience and service they gave me guaranteed that I will always go back to Trent's. read more

I originally went to this place just for renewing registration, but they gave me an honest and thorough inspection on my car. They also suggested me cheapest ways to fix them, or even what I don't have to worry about fixing right now to save money. I had already been aware of most of the problems about my car before I brought it in, and I was initially going to buy the parts on my own and then take it to this one-man shop I trust to save money as a student. However, I was very impressed with their service so I decided to give it a try with these guys instead. As they were working on it, they called me as soon as they found other problems which I had suspected but wasn't sure of, so I was able to replace them in time. In hindsight, I actually saved money with them compared to if I had taken it to the one-man shop because I didn't have to pay twice for labor. I've read some negative reviews below, and I get that price is an issue here because I'm also a student and their quotes weren't always in the range of my expectation. But given their honesty and quality of service, I would say it's worth it, ESPECIALLY if you know little to nothing about your car. And for the person below who complained about spark plugs, each car needs 4~6 plugs, and considering they use top-quality parts and give you a warranty on their service, the price is actually not too bad. What you should really worry about when taking your car to a shop is whether the parts they ACTUALLY use are of top quality, as well as whether you would be forced to fix it again at another shop because of their poor service. With these guys, you don't need any worries. I have dealt with several other dishonest, deficient shops in Utah, and I would say this place is the best. read more

One shop told me that my son's car needed ~$1500 in repairs, I took it to Campus Tire Pros (I should've started there but a friend recommended an emissions shop) and they took the time to figure out the problem. Cost me NOTHING. All I had to do was reset the on board computer and go for a drive to reset a trouble code. The guys did all this at warp speed because I had to catch a plane. About a year ago I took my car in to get an oil change and somehow the hinge on the driver's side door got bent so the metal frame of the door in the corner was warped and I had trouble opening and closing the door. It left a small dent and a nice chip out of the paint. It wasn't that big of a deal because my car was old and worn and had been hit a couple times already, but I was still annoyed that I had to go back inside to ask them to fix the door so I could get into it and leave. My son took his car in to have it checked. Campus Tire Pros charged him $79.95 for a diagnostic check. The biggest repair that they recommended was not even on the receipt. They wanted double what another shop quoted for a clutch replacement on his car. The clutch was not even mentioned on the receipt with the description. They also charged him $3.20 for a "shop material" fee. $3.20 isn't a lot, but the fee is vague. It seems that if you pay 80 bucks for diagnostics that they would at least give you the diagnosis in writing. read more

So I came in because of all the 5 star reviews. But what I learned is that these guys are willing to sell you stuff you don't need at marked up prices. I just wanted a tire rotation, oil change and a trip check because I was driving to California the next day. The guy who was assigned to me, Rolf, made it sound like he was giving me a good deal and also made it seem like I didn't have to do some things on my car that he found. Instead he charged me $200 for a transmission fluid flush which is ridiculous on a 2011 Toyota Yaris. He used this made up scale in order to show me the "intensity" of my problem. Well I got another opinion from a professional mechanic who is family friend, and he told me not only did I get overcharged for the fluid flush, but that I didn't even need one. tl;dr - Will exaggerate prices and problems.
