Great ambiance: full of Cougar/WSU decor, super friendly staff. The shakes here are amazing: super thick, similar to a malt/ice cream, as you'll need a spoon to eat it. Burgers are alright, and fries are tasty, but the "fry sauce" is the best!! This place is either sit down inside or drive thru. Parking can get tricky (aka: crowded) when it's busy, but that's to be expected at WSU during busy weekends, like move-in-weekend. Cougar Country has been around for ages and is a nostalgic destination if you're alumni. Always a great burger-joint. read more

Hubby found me a Turkey Burger, and those are hard to find! And the crew all found good stuff for their late dinner too. The ice cream machine wasn't working when we went, but the burgers were good after a long day. First of all. I am impressed on how good the food tasted. I can see that the quality of the burger has really improved from what it used to be when I went to school here like a decade ago. I can really taste how incredible the beef is. However, I do see why people are frustrated with the prices. The prices has also drastically increased as well. Understandable to me given the food quality has increased ten fold. But given that the price is rather high for locals given how much they make on average and for the students given they don't really have income. I can see this place falling out of favor over time as I'm guessing the people who enjoy it are primarily alumni with deeper pockets. Just a tip I'd totally open a location in Seattle. read more

Stopped by for a late lunch on a Thursday and the service was great, everything was clean, and the food was nearly perfect! Their new radio ads say that they use the freshest ingredients in the area, and I believe it. This is the closest burger to the taste and quality of an In-N-Out burger you will find for hundreds of miles. Very good! Fries were hand cut and taste great, but they were slightly limp and greasy like the fryer oil wasn't quite hot enough. Being in Pullman with a high school junior means always having to provide at least two huge dinners to keep him from being hungry. So every day that we were there, this place was his second dinner. We never used the drive-in and he ordered just a pretty basic burger with fries. He didn't venture out with any of the special drinks or desserts or any of that stuff. But he is pretty picky about a burger and he really did enjoy it every time. it was not greasy and it was a decent size. Not a tiny hamburger that you kinda wanna laugh at but also not a huge burger either. Nicely done Even though we got it to-go each time, we waited in the restaurant which was very clean. There were no unused tables or tables that looked kind of gross so that you wouldn't want to sit there. So that was nice and different than a lot of fast food restaurants. I grew up here and have been eating here all my life. Used to love a cheeseburger and fries or a chicken basket. I tried it out w the last owner and it wasn't great so I didn't go back. Decided to give this new owner a shot last week and will never go back. Ordered a kids cheeseburger (cause the prices are high and if it sucked it wouldn't be a great expense) and small fries. It's not even called a cub burger anymore and pretty sure it was a patty in between 2 buns with maybe some ketchup that was flat as a pancake. I remember the cub burger had more than that. Shoestring fries sounded pretty decent but it was a moat full of greasy moist fries that weren't good. I get some people may like that. The fry sauce now is terrible. I was in town for work, and my wife insisted that I visit one of her favorite places from her time as a student at WSU. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted with a smile and noticed how clean the restaurant was. The new owners have this place running smooth. Food came out really quick but was extremely fresh and tasty. The new fries are amazing, get the beast style on your burger, you will not regret it. Sunday May4,2025 1 pm We were told they were out of everything but the chicken and burger items. Ok , we were there to try the burgers. I ordered a double patty which the menu said had onions............no onions on my burger.No pickle either but that was not on the menu. Just shredded lettuce and mayo. The guy working the counter asked me what kind of cheese I wanted...... I said the menu does not mention cheese.....he said oh, if you want to ADD cheese. He did the same with my 12 year old who like me does not like cheese on his burger but got it anyway. The fries were limp and my lemonade was so sour I could not drink it. The fry sauce was good. Daughter was happy with her burger. We also had to ask for a cloth to wipe down a table. Overall it was edible but nothing great. Would I go back? Last year we would stop coming in or out of town when visiting my daughter at WSU. Stopped today on our way out of town and was very disappointed. Ordered a shake, grilled cheese and fries. First what happened, you are not longer serving crinkle cut fries. Normally I don't mind natural cut, but ours were burnt, didn't even eat them. Grilled cheese had been cooked on same grill as onions or something, it definitely tasted off. Waited 30 min for our to go order. But today's service was so bad I had to sign up for Yelp. Horrible service. Ordered three burgers along with three fries, got the burgers but not the fries. Not a big deal, so I went back up to the counter, and waited for five minutes to be asked if I needed anything, blonde smaller girl behind the counter looked at me many times and never asked if I needed anything. I was respectful and didn't want to interrupt her while she was doing small tasks. I finally asked about my missing fries, not upset or rude in the slightest. She did not believe me and with a snappy tone asked for my receipt, then after looking at the paid for three fries asked how many again twice. She then went to the cook, heavier set man with a beard, who had been loudly singing inappropriate music while young children were in the restaurant. He was baffled that he could have forgotten the fries. They made some excuse for him forgetting the fries and I politely said thank you and walked back to my seat. I then proceed to hear the cook say you should have charged them, in a loud disrespectful tone, after she showed him the receipt. After saying what and looking behind me, both the cook and the blonde girl gave me a nasty look. Then once the fries were done, the blonde girl refused to call them out, where then my mother had to go up and ask for them, where then she tossed them on the counter. Never apologized or anything. Extremely disrespectful, rude, and unprofessional. Never have I linked the employees at cougar country with these words. Ate here on 2.17.2022 Have only been there once before since new owners took over and thought we'd try again. First off, wanted to call in the order...staff was a bit rude but whatever...sort of more of the same from here. Ordered 2 cub burgers (smallest burgs you can get), 2 small fries, and 2 med shakes. About fell over when they said it was $26.65 ...wow! Was thinking this really better be good and it was everything but that. The patty was so thin, it was like paper and there was NO flavor whatsoever. I was a HUGE cougar country fan back when the previous owners had it and would tell you it was my absolute favorite. No more and won't be going back to be gouged for bad food and service. The fries were terrible and I've never had bad fries from there...the shakes were terrible. Both were banana and I don't recommend it...seriously disappointed and wish I wouldn't have hyped it up to who o took there. I'm sad to leave this but I also think it's important to review as it happened and the experience no matter what business it is. I will not be going back and it's sad to not be able to get the food that used to be there. Doesn't deserve the name Cougar Country. From there frequent use of the words "Never Ever beef" you'd think they would just call it "Never Ever Diner". My one star review is because the new management took a big dump on what made cougar country good. They took away our favorite sauce and our favorite crinkle cut fries. Also, the cub burger is gone forever. The service was decent and food came out quickly enough but my wife and I will no longer be driving from Moscow to dine here anymore.
