Easily one of the best meals we've ever had in miami - every single item was phenomenal. To start - the chicken empanadas were the best embenadas we've ever had (cheese was good too but the chicken was better)- they just taste "real". Pan de yuca and cornbread both absolutely incredible. For mains we had the steak and chicken pasta. Both delicious. The potatoes with the steak were probably the best potatoes I've ever had. And then we finished with the rum cake - also fantastic. WE loved it so before we get to the food let me tell you. You need a reservation, the food quality and the fact that everything is made to order helps them maintain their small restaurant running like a well oiled machine. First we had some bubbles and a limonada de menta. We order the seco de chivo empanadas that come with aji that was delicious. Crispy and juicy inside. Next pan de yuca with mermelada de membrillo these 2 paired perfectly together. It felts right out of the oven in Ecuador. The we had the crudo salsero a beautiful dish with an explosion of flavors, the fish with passion fruit sauce is amazing!! Your mouth will keep asking for more great flavors. Then for mains we had tortellini seco de pollo it had some crunchy cheese that gave it a great crunchy twist. We also Ordered the tonga de langostinos a dish that felt came just from Manabi it was absolutely delicious. The langostines were perfectly cooked it came with a tamarind sauce a delicious coconut rice and sal prieta. No one even replies you back so what is the point of the system if the owner or whoever managing is not even replying to their customers for request or anything. There's no doubt that the food at Cotoa is delicious and prepared with high quality ingredients, care and precision. But what most struck me the most after my experience at Cotoa is the love and genuine kindness that you feel from the moment you enter the restaurant. The service is exceptional with the Chef and staff making you feel like family. It really was one of the most pleasant dining experiences I have enjoyed in a long time. Everything that we ordered was on point: Humita de Abuelita (so good we also ordered some to go), Wahoo Ceviche, and La Tonga featuring finger-licking Ecuadorian langostinos prepared in a creamy peanut and coconut stew. I typically don't like to leave anything except 5 star reviews, but I unfortunately have to share a not so positive review about my experience at Cotoa. I booked a reservation at Cotoa over a month in advance- having heard about its Michelin star and the distinction from Infatuation, I was really looking forward to dining here! I booked a reservation for Valentine's Day and was so excited. I have a peanut allergy, and always review menus prior to eating at a restaurant to make sure I can enjoy most of the food there! I do not have an issue with smelling or potential cross contamination, so this is never an issue for me- solely just ingredients within the dishes themselves!After reviewing Cotoa's menu online, 2 of the dishes openly advertised having peanuts in the menu. I went on TikTok and found that a dish not advertised as having peanuts contained peanuts as a topping, and kept that in mind when I attended the restaurant. When we finally were sat down, to my surprise, after confirming with the server, it turns out most of the menu contained peanuts either in the sauce or another element of the dish that was not removable. I was really disappointed and really couldn't enjoy the dinner as I originally planned- as most of the dishes I planned to eat I actually could not consume. While I'm so appreciative of our server for making an effort to provide me with alternatives, all in all, I do wish the restaurant more openly advertised the peanuts in their dishes- this isn't a dig at the food or the ingredients themselves, but simply clarifying potential allergens for future customers. Otherwise, I enjoyed the ambiance and appreciated there was parking in front. read more

I arrived at Coto on a Saturday at 2:55 p.m. and was turned away by an employee named Emilio, who said they were too busy and that the staff needed to have lunch. There was no manager on site, and Emilio's attitude was condescending and rude. As a fellow Ecuadorian, I was embarrassed and humiliated by how I was treated. I even explained that I had come all the way from the south end just to try the food and how excited I was to finally visit, but he didn't care. There were several empty tables--at least half of the restaurant--and it's a small place to begin with. The food may be great, but without good service, it means nothing. No customers, no business. I can guarantee I will not be coming back, and I will never recommend this place. What a shame. read more

One of the best restaurants I've had in a long time the flavor for each entrée was perfectly created for your taste buds, the pork tenderloin was so tender, and the tortellini's were just so soft and flavorful. Tried Cotoa for the first time as a double date and was unfortunately disappointed. The dinner started off strong with the pan de yuca which was hot, gooey, and cheesy, but the cornbread was just ok and tasted like it was dusted with burnt shreds. The mahi mahi ceviche was decent but nothing memorable. The plantain tortellini was the most unique dish and had an interesting combo of sweet and savory flavors, and the pasta was delightfully al dente, but the portion was quite small. Even two orders to split among four people wasn't a satisfying amount. The langostino dish with coconut rice and peanut sauce came with four large langostinos, but the flavor was again nothing too noteworthy. For dessert we ordered the chocopop and tres leches, but both were small and the server and waitress deceived us about the tres leches that we ordered. What we received was actually a different fruity ice cream dessert with no cake, and when we asked the waitress about it she insisted it was the tres leches before ultimately admitting that they were out of tres leches and the chef made something different. The right thing to do in that situation would be to have simply told us they had no tres leches and asked if we'd like something else instead. This could have been a major problem if one of us was allergic to the pineapple or coconut that was in the dessert they substituted without informing us. It's not ok to give customers something they didn't ask for and to pretend that it was what they ordered, then to charge them for it. They changed our plates and silverware frequently, but for sharing yhe desserts we were given plates which was difficult for consuming the ice cream; bowls would have been more convenient. We left feeling let down and lied to, and not particularly full or satisfied for the price and ambiance. read more

The service was incredible, the atmosphere was beautiful and perfect for a date - though it was Friday night, the place wasn't super packed or loud, probably due to the location downtown. The food was on another level - came out quick, presentation was awesome, and the flavors were incredible. Best of all, the food was unique and the flavors were unlike anything I've ever tasted! Had the pleasure of enjoying Cotoa a few days ago and it was AMAZING! The service was impeccable and friendly and the food sets Ecuadorian flavors at a very high bar. Every dish took us through a unique journey of flavors and aromas. I will be coming back regularly to try the entire menu, that is how much I liked it.
