Silverlake Bistro used to be our go-to neighborhood restaurant in Miami. It offered consistently good food, a welcoming atmosphere, and reasonable prices, making it an easy recommendation for friends and family. In fact, as my wife and I were walking in on our most recent visit, I was commenting that this would be a great place to bring out-of-town guests. Unfortunately, that opinion changed by the end of the evening. When the bill arrived, we learned that the corkage fee had increased from $25 to $35 without any notice. We politely explained that we were longtime customers who had always paid the longstanding $25 fee, but management was unwilling to make any accommodation or honor the previous rate. The increase itself did affect our perception. While $10 may not seem like a large amount, it represented a significant percentage jump for a neighborhood bistro, and it shifted the overall value equation for us in a noticeable way. What made it more frustrating is that a corkage fee increase feels different from a menu price adjustment. Rising food, labor, and operating costs can justify higher menu prices, but a corkage fee is simply a charge for opening and serving a bottle the customer brings in. Increasing it 40% without notice felt excessive, especially for a casual neighborhood restaurant rather than a high-end dining establishment. At $35, the corkage fee no longer feels aligned with the restaurant's positioning or value. Combined with the lack of transparency and the unwillingness to honor a long-standing rate for loyal customers, it meaningfully changed how we view the restaurant. The food was still very good, as it has been on previous visits. However, the overall experience left a sour taste. As a result, my wife and I won't be returning, and we will no longer recommend Silverlake Bistro to friends, family, or out-of-town visitors. That's a shame, because this was once one of the best reasonably priced neighborhood restaurants in the area. A relatively small change, handled differently, could have preserved our loyalty. Instead, it cost the restaurant two regular customers and future word-of-mouth recommendations. read more

I have not actually been at the restaurant, but I got an opportunity to try it at La Poubelle, the piano bar which serves food from Silverlake Bistro. We ordered: - a burger with fries - a buttermilk bibb lettuce salad - ice cream with chocolate sauce Rating these three: - The burger was absolutely outstanding, delicious, very well made, absolutely amazing. - The ice cream with chocolate sauce was also pretty good. - The bibb lettuce salad was not my favorite at all. It was overly-drenched with dressing. The flavor was a little bit off, and I actually couldn't finish the salad, which was a smallish portion to begin with. Overall, I would definitely love to try Silverlake Bistro based on the food I tried at La Poubelle. I've heard so many great things about it, so I'd definitely give it a try. read more

The missing star is simply because, while SilverLake Bistro is a solid local gem, it's not quite perfect. Unfortunately, upon entering--and even while dining--you might notice a lingering scent in the air that's slightly stale, humid, or greasy. I'm not sure if it comes from the cushioned bench seating, the nearby thrift-store-style furniture, or the space itself, but it was a bit distracting for me and my dining companions. My only other critique was the salad: the dressing was overly applied and far too diluted. It's rare to share an appetizer salad among four people and have no one eager to finish it. On the bright side, the menu is lively and inviting. The steak frites were superbly prepared--flavorful and cooked to perfection. The fries reminded me of classic bistros in France (in a very good way). The burger exceeded expectations--especially compared to most you'll find in France. I'd suggest skipping the bacon, though, as it pushed the burger toward greasy. Otherwise, a truly excellent dish. The restaurant has a welcoming, family-owned charm that feels refreshing and genuine. All in all, SilverLake Bistro is a quaint and reliable neighborhood spot offering a very good meal at a very fair price. My only hope is for a small refresh to the atmosphere--mainly to address the interior scent. On pleasant days, I'd definitely recommend sitting outside. And if they do eventually resolve the issue inside, I'll gladly update this review. :) read more

I'm in love with this restaurant and can't wait to come back here again. We were there just a few days ago for dinner. The food was fantastic and the decor is so heartwarming and cozy/comfortable! Even the dinnerware was special with 2 adorable reindeer handpainted on it to add even more charm to your dining experience. Everything has been carefully thought out to make this restaurant stand out from all the others. Pride of ownership definitely shows throughout. The service was outstanding by Leo, who warmly greeted us at the entrance and let us choose where we would like to sit and got us started with our water glasses, complimentary bread plate, and food recommendations. He was a gem and a hardworker catering to other guests also, but never forgot us. We also were impressed by the cordial and prompt service performed by Ximena. She was happy to answer all questions and also had great menu recommendations. Her smile was delightful! We both ordered the same things. For the appetizer, we shared the Baked Vacherin, which was just amazing! It was a crusty loaf of bread with hot baked cheese for the spread. So good! It came straight from the oven with steam rolling off the top of the cheese dish with honey that you dribble over it. I have never had that dish before but I want it again! For the main entree, we chose Pork Chop a la Creme. This was the Chef's kiss! I have never had such delicious pork chops in my life. Accompanied with their special creamy sauce and Polenta and greens. We were both nodding our heads at how delicious our dinner was. The portions were generous and we saved half to take home in order to save room for dessert. For dessert, we had the Traditional Salted Butter Crepe that we shared. It was wonderful with powdered sugar and creamy vanilla ice cream that melted over the crepe. We thought we died and went to heaven. Wow, what a great meal! Perfection. There was nice dining music playing and the guests were all happy and chatting. There is also great outdoor seating in the front of the restaurant but it was too hot outside to do it that day. Meh. I don't get the hype. 3 stars for the interior design and the fact that effort was put into the menu. I've eaten their food twice. The first time, I ordered off of their menu during an event at La Poubelle next door. I had the lentils with cauliflower and I liked it. The cauliflower was a little underdone, but all in all, it was a well crafted dish, and TBH, I was more focused on the entertainment. We returned here last night to eat at the restaurant. The interior is fantastic; quirky in a "professional" way, ie: you don't feel like you're in someone's grandmother's front parlor, but there is still that vibe. They hit it out of the park with the lighting! It's perfect! I had a better chance to peruse the menu this time since dinner was the main event. I was very disappointed that there was so much meat on the menu. Nearly every item is contaminated with some form of chicken/beef/people (I mean, pork). If it doesn't have meat, it has truffle something or a very pungent cheese, all items that I really, really dislike. I was very hungry, but I also wanted to try something different, so I went with the cannellini bean salad. I was so hungry, my eyes glazed right over the "finnochiona" part of the description. It's salami. Ugh. The little salami pieces were diced into teeny, tiny cubes, but with great effort, I was able to spear the beans and avoid the meat. While it was 100% my fault for ordering wrong, I was still extremely disappointed (and hungry!). I basically paid $12 for half a can of beans (and they were definitely canned; disappointing). Larry had the short rib pappardelle and loved it. The interior of the restaurant is FREEZING and has terrible acoustics. The tables are also super close together. The table next to us ordered the mussels and while I do love mussels, these smelled absolutely FOUL. When the food was initially brought to their table, I thought a sewer pipe was leaking! Then, to my great chagrin, the table on the other side of us ordered the mussels! Sewer smell in stereo! The mussel part of the evening brings me to my next gripe.... the service. I found it to be begrudging. Apparently, there was a Wednesday night special of mussels and a bottle of wine. We were not told about this special (we overheard our server telling the table next to us, after we had already ordered, and we wouldn't have ordered the mussels anyway due to the foul smell). The server was ebulliently friendly to the tables on either side of us and icy cold to us. Larry really likes this place. I am meh on it; while the food quality (and prices!) is high, the menu is very limited if you don't love meat and cheese and the service leaves a lot to be desired. read more

I _like_ Silverlake Bistro . . . I'm just not sure I _love_ it anymore. My wife loves it, though. She always gets the same thing: the branzino. I've played around on the menu and come to realize that I'm not in love with their desserts or their short rib noodle dish (all fine, just not worth the trek up from where we stay) - I do love their appetizer empanada and their hot sauce with their fancy burger/fries. The menu and room don't feel like they've changed in the two/three years we've been coming, but I note Silverlake still popular with regular folks from the neighborhood. It's always clean and efficient; the A/C is always cold. Everyone working there is a pro. Their half-priced-wine-bottles-on-Thursdays is a great deal. I'm sure my wife would want me to keep giving Silverlake Bistro five stars but I'm feeling four these days. I LOVED this place! The ambience is great, service is friendly and food is delicious and creatively prepared. We had the carrots, duck tacos, and gnocchi mac and cheese to start, followed by sharing the burger and steak frites. The carrots were delicious with house made ricotta and honey. The duck tacos tasted like authentic mexican tacos and the gnocchi mac and cheese was easily the best mac and cheese I have ever had in my life. The burger was perfectly cooked, juicy and delicious with perfect buns and sauced just right. This is easily my second favorite burger in Miami. The steak was also perfectly cooked. I feel like this experience deserves to be shared -- not because of the food (which was excellent) outside of the pasta noodles they need to be cooked more but because of how I was made to feel as a customer. The food here is undeniably good. That's what brought me back after a previous visit but the customer service I received during my most recent dinner was deeply uncomfortable -- and, frankly, felt racially charged. I was treated in a way that made me feel unwelcome and constantly monitored, which absolutely ruined what should've been an enjoyable solo dinner. From the moment I sat down, I could feel the eyes of the waiter and waitress on me. Not the usual casual glance -- I mean persistent, prolonged staring. At one point, the waiter walked over just because I looked in his direction and asked, "Is everything OK? I saw you looking." and then started explaining what he was doing, it was such an odd and invasive interaction. I wasn't looking at him; I was just looking around while dining alone. Since when is a guest not allowed to look at their surroundings in a restaurant without being interrogated? What made it worse were the microaggressions throughout the night. He commented, "Oh, you're treating yourself on a Monday?" -- with an undertone that implied disbelief or judgment. Another time I visited, the server made a point of mentioning the price of the steak, as if I needed to be warned. Why assume I can't afford a meal I chose to order? I felt judged not because of how I behaved (I was respectful and quiet) -- but likely because I'm Black, and perhaps not the kind of Black person they're used to seeing. I'm not performative, I'm not overly friendly to make others comfortable, and I don't feel the need to "code switch" just to exist in a public space. I treat people like people and expect the same in return. Even though I was treated poorly, I still left a $13 tip -- not because it was earned, but because I'm tired of the stereotype that Black people don't tip. I wanted to make sure they had no excuse to dismiss me or reinforce that bias. I don't know why the staff chose to treat me this way. Maybe they made assumptions based on my skin color. Maybe they were uncomfortable seeing a confident Black person enjoying a nice meal alone on a Monday. Maybe they thought I didn't "belong." Whatever the reason, it left me feeling targeted, disrespected, and deeply uncomfortable. To the owner or chef -- your food is fantastic, but your front-of-house staff needs serious training in how to interact with people from all backgrounds. Cultural sensitivity isn't optional when you're serving the public -- it's essential. I won't be returning until that changes. read more

Maybe our fifth time there, we go early on our way to a Heat game. Bad enough to say we won't be back. Alleged best burger came out clearly raw with old greasy fries. Not sure how this place doesn't have 5 stars! My parents told me I had to try it and have the French onion soup. The presentation was like no other French onion soup I've ever had. I had the steak and my boyfriend had the short rib fettuccine. I enjoyed my steak BUT I wish I had gone with the pasta. That was probably one of the best pastas I've ever had. Such a fine meal in a neighborhood restaurant. Unassuming location in N. Miami Beach (mid? I'm not sure). Lovely interior and greeted by the Host, Alex. Alex seemed to know everyone in the place, lots of hugs and smiles. And the food! Appetizers delish. Brussels sprouts were incredible. Butter lettuce salad delicious. Lamb kufta and Chicken empanadas also really tasty. The entrees were the stars. My mother in law had the branzino, which is her favorite here. They come here regularly. Two of our party had the Mac and Cheese Gnocchi. So yummy. My daughter ate them so fast. Couldn't hold back. Scallops were my wife's entree. Such a unique taste. The sear was perfection, as was the texture and taste. And finally, the star of the show, Silverlake Burger. I'm not sure I've been in a fine restaurant where a mere cheeseburger is fine dining. Silverlake Bistro in the Normandy Isles section of Miami Beach. Accessible via the 79th St Causeway. My friend raves about this quaint neighborhood bistro and she's right! They deliver. Indoor and outdoor seating, very reasonable prices, great staff and very tasty food, what more could you want? We shared everything, something my friends and I love to do, but everyone could get their own item and be just as satisfied. Silverlake Bistro has beer & wine only, no cocktails. Thursday's is 1/2 price bottles, so we indulged in a bottle of red, after enjoying some bubbly. We began with the Homemade Empanadas which change daily. Today there were two options, meat (beef) and ham and cheese. I didn't take a photo of the action but the ham & cheese was oozing cheese and it was my favorite of the two. The Beef had tons of flavor and was served with a chimichurri on the side. They had a beef carpaccio special with EVOO parmesan, and fried capers that was excellent, served with Sullivan St Baking Co bread. The Tarte Flambée is served like a pizza using a thin quiche dough with Vidalia onions, shiitake mushrooms cantalet and crème fraiche. It's light and tasty, another great shareable. The Radicchio Cesar salad was a sleeper item, each bite was coated with their incredible dressing, great crunch, whole anchovies, and perfectly homemade croutons. See Mom, I eat salads! The Gnocchi Mac & Cheese with "duck fat seared gnocchi Smoked Gouda, pork belly, bread crumbs" was heaven on a plate, I could have eaten 3 plates of this. Stupidly good cheesy, and that pork belly was perfectly crispy and chewy at the same time. Don't miss this one, share it. The burger we shared, but I need to go back and have a whole one by itself. I believe this could be the best burger in Florida. I'm not joking, I know this is a very subjective statement to make, but try this one and I'll try yours. Prime beef Two patties, cheddar, mayo, steak sauce, and crispy smoked bacon. My previous favorite burger was the (now unavailable) proof burger. I need to go back and have this again. The pasta special was Bucatini all'Amatriciana, in a red sauce with black pepper, very thick spaghetti there was some bacon or pork belly with it also. Not my favorite pasta, but my companions enjoyed it! The Chicken al Mattone is a brick chicken served perfectly, juicy, crispy skin, fingerling potatoes and caramelized onions underneath soaking up all those wonderful chicken flavors. We did save room for desert and we were rewarded by their awesome crepe with salted butter and powdered sugar. I added vanilla ice cream on the side, but it was just as delicious without it. The star of desert was the Butterscotch Pot De Creme. Sea Salt, creme fraiche, and this incredible butterscotch. Don't miss it! I had a espresso with desert and had a little fella pour the cream (see video). Excellent experience. Living in South Broward (Pembroke Pines) it wasn't too difficult to get to, if you live nearby or ever find yourself staying anywhere nearby add this place to your list, you will not regret it! read more

Neighborhood gem. We've driven by for years and finally decided to pop by on a weeknight to dine outside since we had our dog with us. We had no reservation and were seated right away. The food was absolutely amazing, but you know that considering this place has a 4.8 average rating. The lamb meat balls were savory and delicious, onion soup had great flavor but barely had any cheese; crispy Brussels sprouts were perfect, and the pork chop Milanese with arugula salad was also very good. Such a great crunch on the crust, but still so juicy and delicious. While the food was great, the service was not. After we sat down ( we had a reservation) we weren't given menus and it was at least 10 minutes before anyone came over, and that's because I got tired and flagged someone down. Because of how slow they were, I decided to put the entire order in at once, both drinks and food. The pork chop came with a sweet potato side dish with blue cheese, which did not sound that appetizing to me. I asked the waiter if I could sub those for something else which he agreed to. Spoiler alert, he completely ignored my request and sent it out as is, and I didn't like it. When we ran out of water, you guessed it, always had to flag down someone down. After we finished our food I was not in the mood for dessert and got the check. On a 125$ bill I left 10$. The sad thing is despite being Saturday night, the restaurant was nowhere near busy enough to warrant the crappy service. There are less than 10 tables inside with at least 5 waitstaff that wait on them. This place is not cheap, and it's a shame that the service is bad, because the food and atmosphere are on par. hopefully you have a better experience than I did. read more

Nestled away hidden gem. Found this place by accident. The staff were very warm and welcoming as we entered the restaurant. We started with duck tacos, truffle fries and glasses of wine. For our entree we tried the short rib fettuccine which was packed with flavor. The short rib was very tender. Dessert was a crepe with ice cream, not too sweet or over powering. Their next "child" was Silverlake Bistro, named for a neighborhood in Los Angeles where Benoit and wife/co-owner Sandy Sanchez lived prior to Florida. We came here because of the five star Yelp and other reviews, a little skeptical, since we're more foodies than the average Yelper. I am telling you the five stars are well deserved. We started with the Gnocchi Mac & Cheese with Pork Belly, seared in duck fat with smoked gouda and a touch of breadcrumbs. Wow! Get your cholesterol medication out, it's worth it! Next up we tried the Veal Meatballs served with San Marzano tomato sauce, garlic bread and pecorino cheese, very good. But they were outshined by the Mussels made with a Roquefort Blue Cheese sauce, scallions, white wine and served with crusty grilled Sullivan Street Bakery bread to sop up the killer sauce. We asked our friendly, knowledgable waiter, Bobby, what he recommended for dessert and he said to try the Salted Butter Crepe. That sounded like a simple, unexciting dish but we went for it. It was the best crepe I ever had. Simple, yes, but delicious, slightly seared and crispy on the edges with a soft, heavenly buttery sweet body. We shared all of that, four dishes, for only $70 plus tip and wine. That's what many often leave just for a tip at some of the high end restaurants around Miami! There is a well chosen wine list that seeks to offer a selection that will satisfy most palates, from old world to new, at fair prices generally less than two times retail. For those of you with a wine collection Corkage is allowed for only $25 per bottle. Incredible little hole in the wall. Located in surfside so it's all street parking. It does have a good amount in the block but maybe if you continue driving you might be able to find lot parking that you also would have to pay for. It is a small and cozy place with eclectic decor. The ambiance is a casual slightly upscale. All the servers are absolutely fantastic and very knowledgeable about anything on the menu. Some of my items were recommendations from the server. The food is INCREDIBLE and so consistent. The gnocchi max and cheese is one of my favorites, it's always so warm and cheesy to perfection. The mini St. Helena grilled cheese is always a hit. For mains i've tried the 1/2 chicken that's always juicy and flavorful. My all time favorite is the steak and fries. the steak is always so tender and full of flavor. It served with bone marrow which i add to every bite of steak along with perfectly cut home made skinny fries. The desserts are also delicious. My favorite is this Vietnamese coffee served with ice cream. The combination of the hot and cold is unmatched and the flavors blend so well together. I decided to git this little restaurant a try. Boy was I up for a surprise. The waitresses were amazing. On point with all their orders. Their recommendations were spectacular. They were also good conversationalist. The ambiance of this place is surprisingly cozy with great background music. The food! Wow. We started with this baked cheese with brandy and scallions, to die for. The meals were equally great. Seems like if I was in a French restaurant. I had my 29th bday dinner here with my bf and I loved every single thing about it. The restaurant itself has a very cozy vibe with indoor and outdoor seating and the service was excellent. We ordered a bottle of wine which was half off on Thursday. My order was the short rib fettuccine and affogato for dessert. It's been about a month and I'm still dreaming about that pasta dish and affogato. Both were so good and I'm glad that this place is walking distance from my apartment. Silverlake is incredibly gorgeous inside! Peculiar plates with different woodland creatures on each. Every single dish delivers 100% satisfaction, it's hard to not like it all. The broccolini is the tastiest side dish. Their scallops are large, seared well, meaty, scrumptious, on a flavorful bed of black rice and Maitake mushroom. The truffle taglioni was my absolute favorite! Luxurious butter and truffle in each bite of thin spaghetti. I could eat this every day if I wanted. The pork Milanese is juicy, thick, and lightly battered with the perfect zesty arugula accompaniment. Their desserts were heavenly. The Affogato was Sweet creamy vanilla ice cream with vietnamese espresso. Their butter scotch is the most unique as I've never had a spoonful of pure butter scotch crème like this. And their simple butter with sugar crepe is all you need as simplicity sweet tooth. The next day you want to go back and try more from the menu, which I definitely will be. read more
