Fabulous and attentive service here - I come back year after year for my glasses, and so does my entire family. They have a decent selection of frames, I get multi-focal glasses at a reasonable price, and I get careful attention when I order the glasses , when i get them adjusted, and when I pick them up. The entire Costco Optical staff is personal, thoughtful, responsive, and most have been there for years. Every one pays full attention to each customer (which is why there is often a wait). read more

Stopped by and asked if they could clean my glasses and a lovely pleasant lady named Linh cleaned them for me. I also mentioned to her that they were always crooked on my face. She had me try on the glasses a few times and took a few min to adjust them. Learned something new from her today! My glasses were intentionally crooked in order to be level on my face! Best advice? Always let the eyeglass people do the adjustments! No wonder things were fuzzy! Now I can see better! Thanks Linh! read more

The service here is extremely awful. You always have to wait for more than twenty minutes and what you get is inefficient, slow, reluctant and minimal help. The selection of frames is very limited but the price is good. I guess since you pay less, you deserve only bad attitude and unpredictable waiting time. read more

The wait is bad, but it's Costco after all. The service depends on who you get. The prices are very good. But the glasses are really bad. I bought two pairs of glasses, different frames and different types of lenses (one pair is for driving). After a few weeks the lenses are just popping out of BOTH pairs. They just don't stay aligned in the frame. I spoke to someone at Costco and they said many of their glasses have the problem. The lenses must be super cheap, because they also scratch really easily and very badly. Im not sure if I would purchase from them again. read more

To be avoided at all costs. I waited for 1 hour. Four employees combined their "efforts" to be with 2 customers. After the hour my number indicated there were 20 customers to be seen before me. i asked how long the wait would be and I was to to be patient. It is more entertaining to be stuck in traffic (in the rain) ! read more

went to pick up my first pair of glasses and while the bottom focal (bi-focal) was perfect, the far away focal was plain glass. so sent it back to be fixed. picked up my tri-focals and they are perfect. there was a long line this time, so i asked peter how long he thought it might be before i'm seen. he said about it would be a while, so i could shop and, when i came back, to let him know, if they'd passed my number, so i ran around shopping and came back in about 20 minutes. didn't have long to wait and alicia and khissa were great! thank you all for great and friendly service. the mistake is being fixed; no big deal. no one's perfect; we are human, after all. will tell my friends about you. read more

The glasses were not done right so I went back. Waited half hour. Ugh. Service was great once I was called. Ding 1 Star for long wait and glasses not being done correctly. read more

Costco Optical is great, everyone there is wonderful and very helpful, and..... you can't beat the prices.

After reading all the reviews here, I can see that the ratings are mixed (and wothless) . Some are including the adjacent Optometrist (Dr.Ian Nossoff O.D.) in the rating. (He's a BIG Five Star btw)... But he is not part of the Costco Optical Department, - he's independent of it. In fact, he would recommend them only based on what your specific 'eye' needs, and wallet thickness happen to be. There are many other Optical Departments that he would recommend OVER this under-manned, un-evenly staffed group which is next to his humble cave. They are 'great' for some patient's needs, but NOT all patients. There are some really good lenses out there, but this outlet doesn't carry them. They may improve their offerings in the future... and perhaps you don't seek nor need the best...; so like everything else: buyer beware. There are quarter diopter, and better 'grind' physics, (and even coatings), that is 'news' for this establishment. Sadly, this applies to almost ALL U.S. chain vendors (in contrast to what I encountered in Europe (Germany, England, Switzerland)), where, relative to here, the 'best' is standard stuff; they don't nickel and dime you for state-of-the-art lenses. read more

If you want a lot of pampering, someone who will spend any amount of time with you as you pick out this and that, if you want really expensive specialty lenses, maybe Costco optical is not for you. If you want really good prices on quality merchandise, give it a try. I have also tried Walmart and Costco if infinitely better. Depending upon when you go, you may have a short wait, but their people are friendly and helpful. And knowledgeable. read more

The wait is ridiculously long!!!!!!! Staff are so slow and they stand around acting like they are busy. This is the worst Costco Optical that I have ever been to. read more

I had bought glasses and contacts here in the past and been happy. When I first needed progressives I went to Kaiser because Costco had bad reviews. Got nice but very expensive glasses. This year I tried Costco. I have only had the glasses a few months and they are all scratched up. I have worn glasses since I was 6 and never had a pair get this scratched. There is no year waranty despite what some others have said. they basically told me (after an one hour wait) tough luck glasses get scratched. So that is the end of my relationship with Costco Optical. read more

The coating on my glass lenses started pealing off, so I went back to Costco to see what could be done. My wife had this happen at a different place years ago and they fixed them for her. Costco, on the other hand, told me that it was my fault and that I must have done something to them, but she also said that they had fixed the problem. Essentially, she said "we had a problem with our coatings and we've fixed it but it's your fault so we won't help you." I figured if she couldn't see the logical inconsistancy she probably wasn't the person to talk to, so I tried again the next time I was at Costco with a different person. This time I was again told it was my fault, and she proceeded to tell me the various things I could have done wrong: she told me how her grandfather had the same problem because he fried eggs, and how a lady had the same problem because she used hair spray. I tried telling her that frying eggs without having to take off my glasses seemed pretty reasonable, but she just kept repeating that it was my fault. I finally went to a different Costco, and they said yes that it was their problem, but that unfortunately now a year had passed and the warranty was up so they couldn't do anything for me. I've been happy with Costco optical previously, but this was enough to cause me to write a bad review. The get a zero for such poor customer service. read more

Update,,, I went to Eyebuydirect, and got a better rip off , yes much less than any other company , but cheap and i can't see anything with them, is is a RX , so i need reading and distance, Distance is to me seeing clear faraway not in a hase and reading ? forget about it read more

I had OK experience with costco optics before, went where again to order glasses for my kids. Wait time was awful. On Monday it took us more than 90 minites to order glasses, but we made it. Today I went for pick up - it took more than 2 hours. I just needed them to handle me 2 boxes, no adjustments. I'm not sure if the optics department is severely understaffed (3 people were present) or they work extremely slow. It looks like both, because it takes them forever to just clean pair of glasses. Never again. read more

I ordered contact lenses, 2 weeks passed. I keep asking, and no certain answer, I really don't have idea when I can get my contact lenses!! Costco people tell me to call tomorrow to complain to their manager because she had no idea either,,, hahaha read more

I admit that waiting at Costco Optical is a major negative. Get there when they open if you can. Otherwise, you have to figure out how to use the extra time so you don't go nuts. They have a okay range of frames at very good prices. This is the place to go for functional glasses, not high fashion. There are junky frames and high quality frames sitting side by side.. The opticians for the most part are good, no real complaints there. Note of caution on reviews-- if you are forced to wait for an hour or more, it's easy to see everything there negatively. read more

I got an eye test and a pair of glasses from Costco, Richmond, years ago, and don't remember any problems. I thought the frame selection was good, but I'm an old male, and not into the latest fad. My eyesight has changed, so I'm going back next week for another test and new glasses. I'll report on the experience. I notice that nearly all of the negative comments here focus on the wait time, rather than the quality of the product. While that's obviously an issue, it's not a huge one, unless you change glasses regularly. read more

Ana helped my husband and me today, and spent extra time figuring out some complications we faced when attempting to process insurance. There was no wait or line. Great service, and great products for awesome pricing :) read more

I really hate going to this Costco as it is, but I was desperate for an optometry appointment. I called to inquire about price and making an appointment. The phone rang for quite a while (I had just called the Novato location which picked up right away) before a woman picked up the phone and you could hear the attitude and irritation in her voice. I did call on a Saturday so I knew they were busy and she was probably stressed but before I could respond "hello", I heard a man shouting in the background. It made me pause for a moment, and in an angry and impatient voice, she shouted "HELLO?" on the phone. I explained why I called, she gave me a price, and before I could respond she started giving me the direct number to the optometrist so that I could make an appointment. I did call, they never picked up, but they did call me back within an hour. Unfortunately, they had no open appointments for the next two weeks. However, even if they did, I don't think I would've made the appointment. The reviews speak a lot about customer service and honestly, based on my short phone conversation and my overall experience shopping there, I'd gladly travel a little further to avoid this location. read more

Prices, customer service, and turn around time are excellent. Selection of eye wear is pretty good. Only criticism is the frequent long waits; best to get there first thing in the morning. read more

First let me tell you I've only dealt with the Costco on Central Ave., Richmond. My UCSF opthomologist recommended CC as the most reliable, cheapest place to get prescription glasses. I have been most satisfied over the years, yet the selections seem depleted each visit. The first pair I ever purchased -frames only, cost $30. and I'm still using them after more than 15 years, with new lenses, of course. I hate the $600 pair from a doctor owned SF hospital, and the enamel coloring chipped off irregularly immediately; (nail polish fix). Now cheapo UCSF will not allow it's doctors to write the Rx, so I'm off to try CC again, hoping. Yes, it's always a long wait even if there are only 2 or 3 people ahead of me, I assumed it was a ruse to keep us shopping. If you go at the right time, you can spend the wait nibbling on their freebies, and return to demand to be next as long as they call a higher number. Come on people, bring a book, take advantage of the free lousy fattening samples, what do you do when you're waiting for a friend? read more
