Continued excellent thorough service for many years now, easy to book an appointment, a quiet smart man who listens, a very good staffer who keeps things running smoothly. In this small office crammed with up to date equipment, I feel like this is private medicine at it's best. Free parking also. I do have Kaiser coverage but it's well worth his small fee to have consistent care and a fast turn around on ordering new glasses. The biggest drawback to going to Dr. Nossoff is exiting Costco without picking up 36 rolls of toilet paper or something from the deli section. read more

Dr. N is fantastic, we have been going for several years. He's friendly and efficient

Dr. Nossoff is top notch! I veered off and went to see a different ophthalmologist a couple of years ago and instantly regretted it. Dr. Nossoff is a UCB graduate and consistently is on point with filling my prescriptions and he actually listens! read more

He does a great job walking though the tests and very accommodating in how to transition to newer glasses. Doesn't hurt that his office is inside Costco :)! read more

Intake staff not very friendly has an attitude that is off-putting. No appointments for weeks but they don't seem to care about turning patients away. When I asked about a cancellation list, she dissuaded me from it saying haughtily, "no guarantees." (Yeah that's why it's called a cancellation list.) Calls the optometrist a doctor when they are an optometrist not a medical doctor, which is misleading and inaccurate. No insurance taken. Overall, will take my business elsewhere. read more

Dr. Nossoff is the very best optometrist I have ever been too. My husband and I have been going to him forever. I had a perfectly nice and prompt appointment with Dr. Nossoff, but have been unable to get a return phone call for a question about the prescription he wrote. I've called roughly a dozen times, left voicemails, and none of it seems to matter. Dr. Nossoff, I'm still here if you want to return my call. I still have my question, and I suspect it will only take you 5 minutes to answer it. Maybe this is the only way to reach you? read more

I scheduled an eye exam for 2/18/23. When I got there, I was told both an eye exam and contact exam would cost $115 total. Reasonable, I thought, so I agreed. During the exam, he kept trying to convince me to try a less expensive brand of contact lens to save a buck. At the end of the exam, he didn't have the contact sample he was pitching and said they would call in a week when they came in. Fine, I said. That was also when I would get my contact prescription so I could confirm I liked the sample. Strange, I thought, but ok, I had an ample supply. They didn't call in a week. I called 2/28/23 and told the office I would be coming in to retrieve my contact lens prescription. Fine, they said. When I got there, the receptionist said she was going to give me the sample. No, I said, keep the sample, you're going to give me my contact lens prescription. No, she said, that's why I called you, to pick up your sample. No, I said, I called you because you didn't follow up when you said you would. The doctor entered. He asked why I didn't pick up the sample after the eye exam. You tell me, I yelled. You said you didn't have them in stock. He said we have them. I told him I wasn't going back and forth with him. He apologized and wrote the prescription. Today, 6/8/23, my contact lens order with 1-800-CONTACTS was delayed for verification because Nosoff wrote my prescription for regular contacts instead of the 1-Days that I wanted. The moral of this yelp review is Costco is great for paper products and bulk items; optometric services, not so much. The price was right, tho, and maybe I should bump my rating up a star. Nah. read more

I have been going to Dr. Nossoff for years. He of course provided updated, effective prescriptions. He is also very aware to eye health issues. I was referred to UCSF for field tests as my one optic nerve was larger than the other. I get screened for other health issues that affect eyes every visit. I really wanted to do a review today because I just got my updated latest prescription for regular glasses and computer glasses. I am very happy to recommend him to anyone looking for an optometrist you want to keep. read more

Quick and efficient even for my first ever eye appointment. $59 for a glasses exam, they told me the price upfront over the phone and that's exactly what I paid. No fuss, no small talk, easy in and out. The only problem was trying to get an appointment, I called several times and no one answered the phone so I left a voicemail twice. Also never received my forms via email the night before because my email address was wrong. The office staff were super nice though and I was able to fill out my forms in person before my appointment. She said there was some static on my voicemail so there might be some issue with their phone system. I noticed there was an email address posted on the door but I forgot to write it down and it's not on Costco's website either (if anyone spots it please include it in a review!!) What to expect during COVID: The "EYE EXAM" sign is visible as soon as you walk into Costco, just look to the right where the glasses counter is. The sliding glass door to the office is closed but you can go in as long as no one else is in there as only one patient is allowed in at a time. The assistant will take a picture of your eyes by having you look into a machine and then you'll go into the other room where the doctor will do your eye exam. The staff wiped down everything and it felt very safe. read more

I've been a long time fan of Costco Optical. Dr. Nossoff works at the Richmond Costco private Optical practice. He's a real pro. He taught me quite a few things about the condition of my eyes and what to keep a lookout for. In fact, I had a moment of frustration before going into the office and said something stupid and insensitive to his admin assistant about having to wait 15mins out in aisles of the store-Dr Nossoff was graceful and understanding and accepted my apology and did a terrific and efficient job getting me my new eye prescription. His admin is skilled and professional as well. Highly recommended! read more

Based on the awesome reviews here on Yelp, I suggested Dr Nossoff to my BF when he was looking for an optometrist to check out his eyes. He loved him. A couple years later my eyes started acting funny so I came here. The exam was only $45 without insurance. I was in and out pretty fast. The only thing is that Costco should give the doc a bigger space to work. And put him in an office that has real walls. I mean look at how large the building is. I'm sure they can spare some space for this cool guy. read more

I love Dr.Nossoff! & have been a patient for 15+ years. He's firm but great at what he does! it's been so hard to get a appt since COVID :(

My appointments with Dr. Nossoff are always very quick and efficient which is perfect for my busy schedule. Been going to Dr. Nossof for years, and he's one of the best. I made the mistake of going to another optometrist last year (because they took my insurance) but they weren't even close to his skill level and service. Now I'm back. Highly recommend. read more

There are really good people in the world and Dr. Nossoff is a reminder of that. He is an excellent doctor and kind person, he took me in at the last minute on NEW YEARS EVE and took great care of me. Highly recommended, I would give him ten stars if I could. Of all days to have an urgent eye issue, it had to be NYE and the day before I was going to be on a 14hr+ flight (aka 14hr+ of dehydration and dry eyes). I was hoping it was early enough in the day that I had a tiny chance of finding someone open, but knew the odds were against me. Hoping to become the luckiest unlucky person, I decided to call Dr. Nossoff based on the reviews (he has so many five stars and after meeting him, I know why) and thankfully the receptionist said he was going to close soon but just come by immediately. I was in the area so I got there pretty quickly. When I arrived, a patient was just finishing up and I was told this was his last patient of the day (and year!). Boy was I lucky! He took me in and checked my eye, even flipping my eyelid twice, which I have never done before. I am pretty squeamish and apprehensive because I'm not used to eye exams and I don't wear contacts but Dr. Nossoff is calm, gentle and walks you through the process so I felt much more at ease. He was extremely thorough and patient, making sure to check everything until he found the source of the problem. Finally, he found what was bothering me (the teeny, tiniest thing!) and informed me that my eye was scratched. During the exam, he chatted with me and found out he had friends who lived on the same street as my family and that I'd be taking a long haul flight in the next 36 hours, so when it was time to go, he equipped me with what I needed to make sure my eye would be taken care of on the flight. So thoughtful. Dr. Nossoff did not have to take me in that day, I was a total stranger to him and he could've finished up his last appointments and went home to enjoy his NYE. But he not only took me in, he took excellent care of me and sent me on my way with just a request for a postcard from Hong Kong. This is truly a doctor who cares about patients and I am so thankful for his kindness. One good deed deserves another and I will be sure to pay my gratitude forward, thank you so much Dr. Nossoff! read more

We've seen Dr. Ian Nossoff, OD four times recently for my husband, my daughter and myself. He's a person of goodwill as these reviews attest. Professional, efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. Two of us got eyeglasses prescriptions and my daughter was fitted for contacts. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Nossoff for several years--and have been pleased. BUT I was unaware that I had early macular degeneration and a "mole' in my eye that could've been sign of ocular melanoma (OM). Thankfully I do NOT have OM, but the mole needs to be watched. Neither the mascular degeneration (now addressed by diet & a supplement) or the 'mole' were noted by Dr. N on my chart. ------Costco goes for cheap so Dr. N lacks sophisticated technology for a thorough eye exam. Dr. N serves until you have a problem. A problem you may not know about 'til it's too late. --- my insurance covers the expert services of my new, very thorough optometrist (BTW; she used a total of 3 machines to look at my eyes.) read more

I only know Dr. Nossoff from his location inside the Costco in Richmond, but how many Ian R. Nossoffs can there be? He's a great guy, really friendly and knows what to look for when it comes to prescription eyeglasses. The price for an exam is also very reasonable, $45 to be exact. Match that to some Costco frames and you've got good looking, inexpensive eye goggles. Bottom line - Go there for eyewear! read more

After two unsuccessful attempts to get a proper prescription at another Berkeley optometrist, and two sets of lenses (Costco is great they did not charge me a dime for the replacements) I went to see Dr. Nossoff at the recommendation of the Costco Opticians. What a relief - he had me fitted (Correctly) for a new prescription that resolved my earlier problems. And, this third set of lenses again were at a minimal charge (I got an upgrade to transitions lenses) thanks to Costco. You may have a bit of a wait to see Dr. Nossoff but it is worth it especially if you have a difficult prescription. read more

So i currently don't live there anymore. I had gone to Dr Ian in 2015 probably for my contact lenses and my glasses prescription. The staff and Dr Ian was super nice and caring. He took his time as it was my first time getting the contact lenses. Then they helped me to learn how to put them myself. And now i have been looking for to get exam again but cant seem to find someone as good as him where i live now. I miss him! He is the best by far. read more

Dr. Nossoff is a Berkeley grad, super nice, patient, and professional. I moved down to socal for almost two years now and I still go back to him for my contacts- just can't find an optometrist as good as he is! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Nossoff's for years and he is professional, extremely knowledgeable (UCB grad! Go Bears!), thorough, thoughtful, efficient, and affordable. Initially, I was pretty wary of seeing a medical provider located inside a Costco, but there is nothing cut-rate about the care Dr. Nossoff provides, except perhaps the prices he charges, which are surprisingly humane ($78 for my annual glasses/contact lens exam; $59 if you don't need your eyes dilated). On top of that, the Costco glasses/contact lens "shop" next door is conveniently located (so once you get your prescription from Dr. Nossoff, you can get it filled less than 5 feet away), but you'll have to take a number and be prepared to wait. One time, I waited so long, I started to worry that I would develop cataracts before they called my number. Of course, my worries were at least partially mitigated by the fact that I knew I had a great optometrist should such an unfortunate eventuality befall me while I languished in line. read more

Dr. Nossoff is wonderful. He accomodated my appt even though I was 10 min late, and was always very patient and methodic, never once did I feel rushed. I mentioned that my daily contacts were not as comfortable as my biweekly ones, and without asking he gave me a new brand to try, which he said keep moisture better and better fits my eye shape. And guess what, they are SOOO much more comfortable. I've been complaining about my dailies to a few different optometrists over the last couple of years, none of them gave me these to try! He was also very gracious when I realized that I forgot my wallet and couldn't pay on the day of service, after being late and staying in his office past closing. Can't recommend Dr. Nossoff enough! read more

Dr. Nossoff is really nice, professional, and truly cares about making his patients happy. I've read some of the bad reviews and I have a very hard time believing they are true. Nice enough, seems very knowledgeable, was fine with me and my 8-year old, helpful with the paperwork, efficient and on time, and I had no problem getting a copy of my prescription when I couldn't find mine. Dr. Nossoff is the optometrist that I will go with from now on without a question. First of all, costco optometry is super low priced, only $49 for glasses and $89 for an exam with contacts. I was not waiting long and Dr. Nossoff efficiently helped me in getting a new prescription. He also gave me advice on lasix as well as eye exercises. He gave me tons of measurements and the appropriate prescriptions (regular contacts, astigmatism contacts, glasses). With all these measurements, even down to the pupil distance, I was able to buy my glasses easily online. He also gave me a ton of trial contacts to check out what I liked best so I could decide what I would order later on. Dr. Nossoff is a PRO and he went to Cal! Go Bears! read more
