I came in for new lenses for my Swissflex glasses (after being referred to this shop by the manufacturer). When making the appointment I told them what kind of frames I had and they confirmed they accepted VSP insurance and could replace my lenses. When I came in for my appt the story changed and they said the insurance doesn't cover the lenses. I called VSP from the shop to check and they said they would in fact cover the lenses, and just need the optometrist to call for instructions since the frames have a unique lens mount. The optometrist was busy that day, but said they would call to confirm the details and then send the lenses in for replacement. Two days later they called me back and said that while they confirmed the insurance covered the leaves, their lab could not do these types of frames. However, they had another lab that could replace the lenses but wouldn't take insurance and I would need to pay full retail price. This didn't make any sense to me, so I checked with VSP again and they said there are no labs that they are aware of that will not take their insurance payment. I've now picked up my glasses and will find another optometrist to take care of me. Everybody here seemed nice, but they definitely didn't seem interested in my business, perhaps knowing I have a regular optometrist, and was just looking for someone to help me with one pair of glasses. Very disappointing experience. Follow up - I received a call and email from the owner apologizing for the problems. Although they couldn't provide the service originally promised I appreciated the follow up. read more

I've been going here for a handful of years now, since it's conveniently nearby, but I'm done. The Dr. is just too interested in making money. There's like an insistence from her to buy new lenses or frames and last time I was there, she seemed dismayed that I didn't want to buy replacement frames, so I could use my old glasses until my new lenses were ready. I wrote a review for Dr. Dossa some six years ago and want to update it. It is very easy to use adjectives like "fantastic," "excellent", "extraordinary," "wonderful", "awesome" etc. However, such superlatives are insufficient to describe Dr. Dossa's talents. She is professional and personable in every way! Dr. Dossa not only explains things in a clear and helpful way but also she thinks outside of the box. Dr. Dossa is genuinely, and generously, concerned about her patients' care and demonstrates patience in this regard, taking the time to detail what you can do to maintain your eye health, including diet and supplements. She is thorough in every way! When I started to develop cataracts, she carefully monitored them and eventually recommended an ophthalmologist for me to see, and, should he deem it necessary, do the surgery. She kept in contact with the opthalmologist throughout my check-ups, my surgery, and my post-surgery. They worked together as a team to give me individual attention and continue to do so now, several years later. Dr. Dossa does not provide a one-size-fits-all treatment; she sees her patients as unique and deals with their specific problems in a thorough fashion. She takes the time she needs to answer all questions a patient may have--I had many--and to provide intelligent responses and practical advice. She listens carefully and is easy to talk to and to share confidences about one's health, lifestyle, and personal matters that may influence eye health in particular and physical well-being in general. Her staff is equally generous in their attention, always greeting me with a smile and immediately making me feel relaxed(thanks Bal and Bill!). When walking around 4th street in Berkeley, my attention was captured by the bright colors and unique styles of the glass frames in the window. Going into the shop I was dazzled by the variety and colors of the frames. I have purchase two frames from Lunettes. I have been more than happy with both pair. Though not inexpensive, they fit well and are different. I have a small face and Lunettes have a good selection of frames that fit my face and do. It make me look like an bug or alien. I've had to wear glasses since I was about 10, and I've seen a lot of optometrists over the years. Dr Dossa has probably been the best. I've been going to her for the last 3 years. She takes the time to get to know your vision history and listens to all of your concerns. She has lots of helpful advice and is very knowledgeable and professional. She also takes the time to get to know you and make you feel comfortable. And she doesn't miss anything! There was a change in my right eye that warranted some investigation and she explained everything to me and wrote up a note so I could get a referral at Kaiser. I didn't even need the referral to see a specialist, but that was very helpful nonetheless. Her staff is also great! They really helped me to find the perfect frames and are so patient while I try on basically every single pair in the office lol. Thanks for taking such good care of my eyes! I'm glad I dragged my husband in to see you too. There are so many beautiful frames for every face. Lots of unique options with fun shapes and bright colors. There are two reasons why I think Lunettes du Monde Optometry is the best. (1) They are the ONLY place that has frames that fit my face. I have close-set eyes and have struggled with finding frames that fit and look good. (2) The opticians are amazing - they are friendly and honest and will bend over backwards to ensure you have frames that you love. My only "issue" with the practice is that they don't take my insurance, but that has more to do with the cheapness of my employer. I opted to get my eyes checked within my network but had my prescription filled here. Lunettes du Monde frame selection is just that amazing! I'm willing to spend a little more and go out of my network to get a pair of glasses that I will be very happy with for a long time. I purchased my last set of frames with them several years ago and I just recently got a new pair. But this time I was even more blown away with the service I received -- Blown. Away. The optician (I think her name is Bal) really bent over backwards for me to make sure my prescription was filled correctly. It's so refreshing to have such good service nowadays. You should know, if you don't, that they have the coolest selection of frames around. Now that that is out of the way. . . The staff here are stellar. They aren't interested in rushing you. They aren't pushy. They are quite the opposite. They are attentive and do their best to really help you find what you need. I needed an eye exam, I got one. The entire time questions about my life , my work, we're incorporated in the exam. I was impressed that my daily routines and needs were take into consideration. This was the most thorough eye exam I have ever had. I wore my new glasses for a week, progressives, they were slightly off most likely due to the lab work. I brought them back and they spent a long time making sure that they could make the corrections needed and sent them off to the lab to have the lenses corrected. Again, no rush, total attentiveness. Bill is epic at setting you up with your new frames making sure you get the fit you need. He has a lot of knowledge and experience. It shows. I mentioned that I have noticed dry eyes and they were quick to recommend some eye drops and give me samples. I tried one when I got home and it made a huge difference. I can't say enough nice things about every single person that works there. They have a lifetime customer with me and my entire family. read more
