I am extremely impressed by the professionalism and amazing customer care of Dr. Poon, the owner of C2020. Here is why. I have an expensive pair of Swiss-made frames. It weighs only 2.5 grams, and is thus officially the world's lightest frames. C2020 sent it to the lab specifically authorized by the frame manufacturer itself, to have prescription lenses installed. C2020 also clearly instructed the lab to make no modification to the temples. Yet, (the lab technician must have been new to the job) the lab technician literally melted the temples into pretzel-like twisted twigs, something you would wear only for Halloween. When the lab tried to evade its responsibility, and attempted to argue its way out of it, Dr. Poon purchased new replacement temples to ensure that I would not get stuck with melted-twisted temples. Dr. Poon then personally adjusted the new temples to fit my head. Dr. Poon achieved a beautiful adjustment, because he was both extremely skillful and very patient. In short, you won't find a more skillful, ethical and professional optometrist than Dr. Poon. I have always recommended C2020 to everyone, and will always do so. read more

I love these guys. First, and most importantly, they are very competent. All of my prescriptions have always been excellent, providing great clarity of vision. Next, they have really great frames. I've bought some first class frames that were worth every penny. The frame selection is one of the best reasons to go here. That said, one thing I like about this practice is they completely understand buying inexpensive spares online, and they are super helpful. Finally, they are very Covid aware. When you are in a small dark room with another person, it's comforting to know that they are wearing a mask and looking out for your health. read more

So I have been going here for years - and they are great - but I wanted to highlight something recently that I really appreciated. I have a 15 year old who was excited to try contacts, but unfortunately my kid has large fingers and a huge blink reflex. We gave it a try and it was tough. However, Dr. Poon was incredibly patient with my kid and took his time to give tips and suggestions. My kid was pretty self-critical, and we had to come back more than once to get the contacts in and out, but in the end they were able to make it work. I am certain that my kid would have given up if it wasn't for the patience and kindness that Dr. Poon showed in those visits. I can't say enough for how much we appreciate him! read more

Dr. Poon was great and i was happy with his exam and diagnosis but decided to leave 3 stars since his front staff seemed ignorant and made me feel small. So they were super helpful with adjusting my old frames to my head size, but after i bought my new frames, his staff was inattentive. My insurance has coverage for an extra pair, which i pay additionally for and use it annually towards either contacts or a second pair. His staff didn't scroll all the way through to read that but instead convinced me that i don't have it by hinting that only people who work for Google or Facebook have that kind of insurance. After i bought my new glasses and came home, had to ask my insurance to "email" me my benefits, as they made me doubt myself, then had to call them again explaining over the phone to scroll all the way through to make sure they read everything and place an additional order. Overall both of us wasted a lot of time on this nuance just because the staff didn't read through the benefits carefully and was convinced that only certain company workers have that coverage. Not a great first time experience especially with those remarks. I won't necessarily recommend them well unless you work for Google or Facebook . read more

He suggested shapes and sizes that would be complimentary to my face and also suggested frames that would fit an Asian face. He was very understanding that I was looking for a colorful frame. Friends don't let blind friends drive. My friends always insist to carpool me around at night bc not only am I an aggressive driver but bc all lights are 200% brighter in my eyes and I can never see the street signs until ..oops, just missed the exit. I've gone to about 4 optometrists as my insurance allows me and all of them tell me that I have perfect vision but with a slight stigmatism.. but not Dr. Poon! I stumbled on this fabulously designed and clean store and decided to go for it. Just get my eyes checked one more time to confirm that I'm not actually just crazy. I looked around and liked all the styles of glasses they had, ranging from $ - $$$$, but all looking very cool having potential to end up on my face. I called in to make an appointment and got a perfect time slot. When I arrived, friendly Candice greeted me and set me up with the typical forms for health history and insurance. fresh blueberries on the side just in case I needed to snack. Dr. Poon then called me in and the exam began. He was very professional yet pleasant. Very relaxed yet informative. Everything was cleaned with an alcohol wipe before I placed my skin on it and the exam went very well. When he told me that I don't really need glasses, I thought to my self, "that's it, I'm crazy." but he said it will make a difference if my eyes are tired, or if there's too much computer work or too much iPhone play (hehe..how did he know?) .. which pretty much is all the time. He then described what I probably see and he was on the money. Dang, why didn't I see Dr. Poon sooner? After some more tests I was sent out to pick out some frames! There was just too many great choices but luckily Candice was around to help. She was great. She was there for assistance, suggested some similar styles I liked and knew when to just let me be when I tried on several pairs. I knew my insurance would cover a good amount, and really wanted a pair of SALT, but I opted for a marc by marc jacobs, which actually fit my face better. Got my eyes dilated just make sure everything was okay and then went to eat a sandwich at Bakesale Betty's, hehe. My frames were done on Thursday as promised and I went in for pick up and fitting. I hardly go to the East Bay and who knew there would be so much traffic on a Thursday? Looking at the ETA on the GPS, I knew I wouldn't make it until closing, so I called C2020 and Dr. Poon asked about how far I was and said, "Oh, don't worry. I'll be here." I got there seriously about 10 minutes before closing and Dr. Poon greeted me with more sweet blueberries! "Sup, Dr. Poon! Sorry for being so late. Thanks for waiting up" "No problem." The frames were great. As he cleaned them, I browsed around and saw that he got a new shipment of fabulous stuff! "Oh, if only you had these last week!" "You want to make a change?" "No, it'll be too much hassle." "No hassle." as I thought about it, he gave me my frames and adjusted it to make sure they were comfortable. In the five years that I've been seeing (no pun intended) Dr Poon he's been extremely helpful in dealing with my significantly-more-complicated-than-average contact lens situation. He uses his expertise in a thorough and conscientious manner to obtain the best results. He's also good at communicating and explaining. On the three (maybe even four) occasions when I've called to ask to see him that day because of something unexpected having occurred, he's made time to see me and has been able to deal with the situations quickly and effectively. The staff has also been helpful and efficient. Dr. Poon and the staff at C2020 are pleasant and professional. The office is beautiful with a really beautifully curated selection of glasses and sunglasses. I am able to get appointments quickly & they never make me wait longer than five minutes. It's also in a very convenient location (although there's only street parking, but that does not bother me). Dr. Poon also goes above and beyond: about a year and a half ago, I had an eye emergency. Dr. Poon was kind enough to see me right away, spent a couple of minutes looking at the issue & told me I would save a lot of money by going directly to my health insurance provider to have them look at it and prescribe the necessary medication. I really appreciated his willingness to fit me into his schedule at a moments notice, and also his honesty. He charged me $5 for the appointment, I headed over to Kaiser and saved quite a bit of dinero. My husband and I have been loyal patients for about three years. Highly recommend! read more

My vision is a moving target because of eyeritis. Today I went in for a monovision eyeglass prescription which would mimic cataract surgery lens replacement which I need, and Dr Poon had the brilliant idea of fitting me for contact lenses instead. This allows me to play with different prescriptions in my left and right eye determining before surgery which eye should be fitted for distance and which for reading. A long way of saying Dr Poon is a problem solver, quick thinker, great explainer of options, and very, very good at what he does. read more

When I made an appointment, I asked how much the exam costs due to my previous experience of a big surprise that it costs me $240 elsewhere! It turned out that I have a vision insurance that it covers, but would have been $99 without it. The doctor and the other lady who helped me with payments/glasses both were having colds, but they were very efficient. The location is convenient and so it worked out well. My expectations: What you'd expect from a higher-end place in Rockridge. Minimal, possibly disappointingly spare selection, just enough attitude to remind you that "this place is exclusive". My experience: After an initial awkward getting-to-know-you phase which lasted only about 3 minutes until I cut the ice with my Kim Jung Il comment, I was able to find frames for my 9 year old son and myself (something that has taken over a year to date) in under 15 minutes. The rest (choosing lens coatings, etc. took another 15 minutes. Let's just say the sublime wit and just below the surface accessibility of DJ, the man running the show up front, and tender loving kisses from his Rottweiler, Hans, sealed the deal. Could not have had a better experience. The price wasn't that shocking either, considering I am a magnet to the Japanese one-of-a-kind-frames in the case with the alarm system on it. :/ Now, while I do not have the actual glasses yet, turnaround is under a week, and I expect my experience will be in line with the above, that C2020 will work with me until I am happy, in that unflappable, offbeat way that I now will recommend over all others. Best optometrist ever. I've been coming here for a few years, and every year is better than the last. Dr. Poon is quick, professional, with a great positive demeanor that puts you right at ease. Normally, I hate the "which is better, 1? or 2? 1? or 2?" part of the exam, but when I walk away from C2020 I always think: "Man, why did I dread coming? That was so easy!" This year I didn't have insurance in time for my exam and they let me cancel the morning of--and even gifted me some contacts so I could last until the insurance came in because I was running out. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and so happy I found this place. Literally within minutes of walking in to this sleek, sophisticated and modern boutique I was impressed with the selection of frames and right away found 4 to 5 frames that were perfect. I have been to a # of places in the last few weeks including the city looking for the perfect pair and have finally found not one but many! The have high quality perfect glasses- and the place is so nice- much different than any eye dr. and boutiques. They also have local designers which I prefer. Another plus is you can touch all of the glasses as nothing is behind a locked case- very friendly environment! Best part is they take VSP! I have never written a review on yelp let alone 5 star but they are the best! Candice was so helpful and not pushy which is what you want when looking for glasses. I had already had my eye exam done before finding this place but in the future will look to get exam and glasses here. I finally found my perfect pair of glasses. I love this place! I broke my glasses back in December and came here because it was conveniently located and they were able to fit me in within a reasonable amount of time. I was impressed with the wonderful customer service and what is quite possibly the most accurate eye exam I have ever experienced. The entire staff is warm, friendly, and competent. Being as blind as I am, cost is always an issue, and I was rather insistent that I take my prescription and order glasses online. Both the optometrist (I believe his name is Dr. Poon, according to my fellow Yelp reviewers) and DJ were able to talk me out of it and helped get glasses that I could feasibly afford. I will be back and I will refer anyone that I can to this caring, local establishment. :) read more

The service here is really great. I came in with a prescription which they explained to me in great detail. They then showed me a very wide selection of good looking frames at reasonable prices. I was uncertain so I left and checked out another store. That store was ridiculous. No prices on any frames, and I had to wait 10 minutes to have someone tell me their prices which were much higher than the ones at C2020. I came back to C2020, again got a great level of service and detailed explanations for all my questions. At no time was there any pressure, which was nice considering I was uncertain what I wanted. The retail space is very sleek and modern, the eye exam rooms are comfortable, the frames are classy and sophisticated, and the service is wonderful. When I came in for an eye appointment, I was offered a beverage off of a list of options from the warm and friendly assistant, and went with a latte. How nice is that? I then sat down and read the Dwell magazines they had on hand ... the space certainly takes design cues from this Modernist publication. Dr. Poon has a very calm, professional demeanor and answered any questions I had thoroughly. He and his assistant helped me select a great set of frames that were super comfortable, and I generally have a really difficult time picking out frames since I have what I think is an abnormally wide face. They seemed to be on the more expensive end, though I've had good, glasses-free eyes most of my life, so I haven't done a lot of comparison shopping. But for something you wear everyday, you want to be happy with your selection, so the pricing seemed worthwhile. When my glasses came in, C2020 e-mailed me to let me know with a follow-up phone call, and when I came in to pick them up, I was offered a small bowl of blueberries while I waited for Dr. Poon to adjust the frames for a better fit. I just moved to the neighborhood from the city and visited C2020 last month for an eye exam. I have been wearing glasses for 30 years and saw many doctors cuz I moved around a lot. Dr. Poon and C2020 was by far the best experience I have had. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. Checking in was easy and there was no waitat all. The equipment are pretty hi tech and the whole decor was just modern and warm. Dr. Poon greeted me right away and after the exam, he explained everything thoroughly and even pulled out an eye model to show me what I have, which I really appreciated. The staff then helped me pick out the coolest frames and I have been getting tons of compliments for them. Their glasses selection really stands out, with mostly independent and some US made frames instead of the big designer brands. Also, I didn't feel like they were rushing me or impatient even though I probably tried on everything in their store. They really took the time to take care of me for getting something that will be part of me for the next year. Went in to have two old pairs of Rudy Project glasses repaired. These were old glasses that I had bought in another state. The nose pieces had worn out and broken. I called around a few places and no one was willing to order replacements. I walked into C2020. They were very friendly. He didn't know if he could get the parts but took my information and called me the next day with a price and time estimate. When I went to pick up the glasses he not only changed the part but also tightened up the earpieces and readjusted them to fit my face. I was very impressed with the level of service even though I'm pretty sure it was not a profitable transaction. They have an impressive selection of very cool (presumably very expensive) high-design glasses. Considering the level of service they provided for my glasses purchased elsewhere, I can only imagine the service is extraordinary for glasses you buy directly from them. read more

I just purchased a pair of glasses from C2020 a month ago and had one of the more frustrating experiences there. The glasses took about a week to get done, although I wasn't notified until 2 weeks after they were finished that they were available, and it was only after I called in after 2 weeks to check the status that they let me know it was ready. After verifying the frames were in in the morning , I left work early to pick up the frames the same day. When I went in, Candice could not locate the frames (she spent maybe 3 minutes looking, then she said she needed to call the optometrist, who was never in when I was there) so I had to come in the next day after they located them in another room. When I picked up the frames, it was a different woman helping and she apologized but didn't offer to offset the inconvenience in any other way. As for the frames themselves, I was more in love with them before they got sent to the labs to get fitted for my prescription. My vision is a little blurred with the frames (possibly a product of the large frame per explanation by the second lady helping me, although Candice never mentioned this would be a problem) and I'm hoping it will get better over time, but I don't think I'll be returning to C2020 for my next pair of frames. read more

so, I was walking on the street the other day, texting my wife, and bam.. a pole just came right in front of me. I was okay but my glassses got bent a little. After a week when my glasses just kinda slips down too much, I decided to go back to this place and see if they can help. The opticians at C2020 were extremely helpful, and the doctor actually helped fixed my glasses in just a few minutes. While they were adjusting them, one of the staff there notices a small scratch on the side of the lenses, probably from banging the glasses on the pole. Even though the scratch is not that noticable, they insist of replacing the lenses for me for no charge (under warranty). I went home and came back a week later, they switched out the old lenses and put in the new onein about 5 mins.. totally hassle free. That's what I call great service. a lesson learned here, don't walk and text.. it's really not good. read more

Excellent. I checked out all of the optometries in the area and C2020 was immediately the clear choice. I just got the sense that the other places would have impersonal service and I wasn't too impressed with their selection. When I first visited C2020, Dr. Poon and Candice were very professional, informative, and genuine even though I was only poking my head in and checking out frames. There is a great seletion of frames and they even offered to order a pair of sunglasses from one of their catalogs just so I could try them on. I later took them up on that offer. C2020 took my vsp when I had my eye exam a couple days later and it was the most thorough exam I've ever had. Dr. Poon was very easy to talk to and he advised me of every point in the exam and offered his recommendations. By the way, my girlfriend was also there for an exam - Dr. Poon and Candice gave us chilled blueberries. Very friendly. I now have great Salt sunglasses and plan on going back soon for regular glasses. read more

This place is amazing for several reasons. Their selection of glasses are great if you're into frames that are pretty exclusive or out of the ordinary. I will say they are a bit pricey but thankfully they accept insurance so it knocked down the price significantly (well, that's also due to having great insurance from my work lol). I got my glasses in less than two weeks. They have a great emailing system and let me know the second it was ready for pick up. I have yet to have an eye appt with Dr. Poon, as I got my prescription from Kaiser. However, he did take the time to great everyone that was wandering the store. Nice and helpful finding frames they had that might work. Optometrist on site - which is really important to me. I considered going to a doc and bringing a store my prescription, but it is a lot of extra physical and paper work to process insurance. Ultimately their selection is limited to trendy designer asian and european frames that were mostly square plastic and titanium and 300-400 dollars. A surprisingly wonderful experience. I was in a hurry and a little nervous because I hadn't had an eye exam in over ten years. Soren was very friendly and professional. She seems to genuinely care about making sure clients get what they need and not only because she wants us to be satisfied but because she really cares about the health of our eyes. I also really enjoyed Dr. Poon. He explained all of the tests he did in just enough detail and took care of me in a jiff without making me wait for him to take care of any other business, though I am sure he is a busy man. The icing on the cake was that I don't even need glasses. I just have a tiny bit of astigmatism, which allows me to utilize my sweet new vision benefits for some stylish new sunglasses. I went to C2020 Optometry because of the good reviews on yelp, and they do not disappoint. I haven't gotten an eye exam in two years and I needed new glasses and contacts. When I arrived, I noticed their store is very minimalistic and modern. I love the lighting and vintage bike by the window. Good taste in decorations and other stuff usually reflect overall good taste in products ;) As a fashion blogger, I love all things beautiful. So if you're trying to convince me I look good in glasses, it better be a hell of a pair of glasses. Now enough about me, I called C2020 and was able to get an appointment after 5pm because of my hectic work schedule. The receptionist was very sweet and efficient. When I arrived, I was greeted by the receptionist on the phone from earlier. She offered me tea and candies (lol) as I waited. Dr. Poon was very professional and meticulous during the eye exam. Not only did he check the degree (I'm extremelyyyyy nearsighted), he also went in-depth and make sure my eyes are healthy. Because I often wear contacts, I have this fear that one day I will be diagnosed with some eye illness caused by contact lenses. Dr. Poon eased by concerns (or frantic blabber), informed me my eyes are very healthy. He also explained to me the various kinds of eye problems and what are the main causes. He made sure my contact lenses routine was accurate and safe for my eyes. After the exam, I went on to choose my frames. They have are very trendy and one-of-a-kind frames. He has a lot of European and Asian (I believe are Japanese) brands. I have a hard time picking one, I wanted two hehe. The assistant there was very informative and eventually help me picked a wooden frame. I am very pleased with the service in C2020 and one time, this older gentlemen in FiDi stopped and asked me about my frames. He thought they were Prada. This optometry has a friend and super-helpful doctor, and carries exclusive eyeglass frames, that I haven't seen elsewhere. I recently broke my Undostrial eyeglass case, and I didn't know where to find a replacement. I called Dr. Poon, who sent me a replacement free of charge. I really appreciate the overall experience I had here. From the optician all the way to the optometrist. They are simply excellent at what they do and clearly have a passion for it. I went in one day -- before I was a patient -- with 7 pairs of glasses that needed adjusting. They didn't ask any questions, they just set about adjusting them. One of the few optician/optometry stores that actually abide by the code of fixing all glasses. Of course I became their patient and the eye exam was very thorough. Overall, you'll do very well here. I had one of the best experiences ever at an optometry center at C2020 Optometry! I unfortunately did not see Dr. Poon for an eye exam. I only purchased glasses. After last year's horrible experience at Site for Sore Eyes on Piedmont, I was nervous to go to a new optometrist that I did not know anything about, so I went to the Minor Hall Eye Center at UCB. They are good but not as wonderful as they use to be. Not convinced the folks at Minor Hall were doing the best they could for me, I went searching for another optometrist to get my glasses from. I found C2020 on Yelp. I have a high prescription and the Asian non-existent nose bridge problem which limits me on the types of frames I can get and the lenes are incredibly expensive. No matter how much I spend, how beautiful the frames are, how thinned out the lens gets, they still look like magnifying glasses. C2020 has a beautiful storefront on College in Rockridge with a beautiful selection of frames. I looked at frames that ranged from $150-400 (at Minor Hall $109-300). I picked out eco frames that are made from 95% recycled materials and hiptster cute for $150. Candice advised I add the custom nose pads for $50, which make the glasses much more comfortable. They are much cuter without my prescription lenses but not bad with them either, which I couldn't believe. They were still expensive even with VSP insurance but maybe a little less than at Minor Hall. I'm happy with them and with C2020. Candice was the best part of the experience! She is knowledgeable, calm, and very sweet. She gave me sound advice and made the whole process easy and painless. read more
