I've been going here for the past few years and cannot say enough good things. I have seen Dr. Larry Sarver and Dr. Miles Sabatini, and both are fantastic. They know what they're doing and they get the job done right! They take their time and make sure to answer all your questions, whether it's about your vision or your business. I recently had an involved billing question and they went over everything with me very patiently. When I ran out of contacts, they gave me extras to get me through. CAVEAT: I didn't get a chance to see them. I was referred to them by my local glasses store since they don't have an optometrist in house. I called and their first opening was 2 months out!! That in and of itself was a bummer but wasn't anything I could be mad about, they're popular, it happens. The lady on the phone though was super curt almost to the point of rude (but not quite) and didn't even offer to say, hey, if you can't wait that long here are some recommendations, just hung up. I'll make sure my glasses store knows not to send anyone else your way. Not asking for a lot, but nice to be a little more polite when declining business. I want to chalk it up to someone being busy, but I didn't get the sense that that's uncommon with the person who answered. read more

Very happy with the service and care here. I've been coming for a couple years and find the doctors and technology to be great. I'm reviewing because recently I got an eye infection and they were so quick to get me in same day and have been diligent in following up with my care. Looks smaller from the outside, but once inside it's actually pretty big lol.I went here a couple months ago to get new sunglasses (trying to use up my FSA before it expires at the end of the year). When I walked in, I was greeted right away by a friendly optician/assistant who showed me a selection of sunglasses in the style I was looking for. Then I tried on many sunglasses (I was surprised at how large their selection was) and she helped me whittle it down to a few I liked. Decided on my final choice and filled out paperwork, used my insurance but then realized I forgot my FSA card for the rest of the payment but the person was super understanding and said I could pay the rest on pick up. They let me know it would take about 3-4 weeks for the glasses to be ready. Sure enough, about a month later, got a call that they were ready. Dropped by, was greeted by a desk clerk right away. I let them know I was there to pick up my glasses and paid without any issues. On pick up the optician did the usual of putting the glasses on me and made adjustments to make sure it looked nice and felt good on my face. At the end they also put my glasses in a nice small orange bag with a hard case and a cleansing spray, which was a nice bonus (last two previous eye places I went to didn't: last year my previous optometrist/eye store gave me neither, and the year before that at another place my glasses only came with a cleansing wipe but no case). The small details stand out (especially when shelling out hundreds on an exam(s) and a thousand or more on frames/lenses/contacts). Definitely going to get my next eye check-up and prescription with an optometrist here. Rockridge Optometry is an excellent glasses store carrying a large selection and brands with with very helpful opticians. I wish I found this place sooner. read more

Isn't it time you switched to a great optometrist? I recently switched to Rockridge Optometry and could not be happier. The doctor was kind, highly communicative, professional, and my eye exam was thorough! They tested the cheap glasses that I bought at other places and found out the prescription lenses did not match my prescription! They also fixed a pair of glasses for me for free. Thanks to their super great optician, I bought two great-looking, very reasonable priced pairs of glasses and frames too, and I can't wait to pick them up! And they take my insurance! I waited to write this review until after I had my appointment, my kids had their appointment and everyone's glasses were In. The good is the doctor and their staff. Absolutely too notch and great with both myself and my two kids. Not great - my glasses took 21 days. They didn't even call me to tell me there was a delay. I had to call them and then got an apology that "they were behind". A courtesy call would have been appreciated - I took my glasses home and the arm was loose right out of the box. I called and was told I needed an appointment to come in to get that adjusted. I could see if I had it for more than a few days but I literally called less than an hour later when I got home and put them on. How is that customer service? -My kids glasses are the same. I'm being told it'll be at least two weeks for them to get their glasses adjusted so my options are to wait two weeks and forgo picking up glasses that are ready now OR take them and risk them not fitting properly. Overall this is a nice office with amazing doctors but once you get done with the doctors office part - it's going to be hit and miss for sales and costumer service. read more

Rockridge Optometry used to be my go to optometry service. HOWEVER, most recently they messed up on the lenses for my glasses. I brought them a prescription from my Opthamologist, sat with an optician to go over what I wanted my lenses like (same as the existing lenses but using new prescription) and the glasses have never been right. I had the same prescription filled at Costco & got perfect results. I did take the glasses back & the optician noted something didn't match, but even their 2d try did not work. I cannot read nor do computer work with the Rockridge glasses. Even though they are progressives. They are only good for long distance. A lot of money wasted. read more

We took our 1 year old to get a FREE InfantSee checkup done with Dr. Jasmine Junge and she was incredible! I had heard about the InfantSee program through a Mom's group and there aren't very many providers in the area. The only downside was that it was difficult to schedule an appointment. After cancellations (one time because Dr. wasn't feeling well and the other because we were in quarantine from covid), it ultimately took 3 months from when I first called to when we saw Dr. Junge). It was worth the wait. Dr. Junge has young kids of her own so she is great with children. She made the entire experience so much fun for my son, who thought he was just playing games. She was gentle and quick. My son's last pediatrician visit had a vision component and I initially questioned if this visit to Dr. Junge was even necessary but I'm so glad we still came. This was a far more comprehensive exam that made me feel much better about my son's vision. read more

Unfortunately, I did not receive the 5 Star service I see reviewed. First and foremost, Sean, who gave me service, didn't read my insurance correctly, therfore giving me the lowest level of insurance. Which I STiLL don't understand how it happened when you deal with insurance EVERY day. Then, the old "bait and switch" grift was used. They claim they are opened on Saturdays, and you will get a Saturday appointment. The FIRST one. After that, everything is in the morning so you'll have to miss work time. Ordered a pair of large framed glasses. Forgot the fact that at COSTCO, where I got my pair approx 5 yrs ago, the optometrist told me that progressive lenses are best with smaller sized lenses. Sure enough, couldn't see out of one lens. To this day, I still prefer to wear my Costco glasses over the new Rockridge ones. So disappointed with Rockridge that because I need to get some safety prescription glasses for work, I'D RATHER PAY OUT OF POCKET AT COSTCO, RATHER THAN GO TO ROCKRIDGE FOR FREE!!!!(Insurance) When the glasses were ready, "you can come pick them up anytime, but if you want them adjusted you need to make an appointment. Not inexpensive but they take insurance and offer incredibly good service...appointments are always punctual, the doctors I've seen give good advice, and they offer helpful upgrades on products without pushing them. I called to schedule an appointment very delinquently this year after running out of contacts and they immediately offered to order me a couple of trial pairs to tide me over to their next open slot. Dr. Yokoi has been my family's optometrist for as long as I can remember, and he's wonderful! Ever since I started needing glasses in 4th grade, my parents had me come see him. He's very friendly, and answers all my questions about my visions, like what to do if I'm seeing spots, if I have occasional dryness, and also accommodated my request for contacts to wear for cosplay purposes. As a long-time wearer of glasses, I was intimidated by contacts, but knew I wanted to do so for cosplay. (I like to buy unusual colors from PinkyParadise and Uniqso, and have friends who recommend HoneyColor, but I also wanted contacts that were approved by my optometrist). When I brought this up to Dr Yokoi, he said I was the first patient who wanted colored contacts for cosplay. Dr Yokoi ordered some samples in my requested colors (blue and green), and had me test-wear them before I made the decision to order a year's supply of them. They're very comfortable, and when I test-wore the blue contacts on Bart, one guy even wrote me a lovely note on how beautiful my eyes are before he stepped off at his station! Should be noted that no unusual colors (such as red, violet, pink, yellow, etc) can be obtained here. It was difficult for me to wear contacts at first since the thought of poking my eyes with my fingers freaked me out. But with patience, and training from the staff, I was able to get contacts in and out of my eyes on my own. Whenever Dr. Yokoi retires, it's going to be super hard to replace him. I can't imagine having my eyes examined by somebody else! read more

Having worn contact lenses for decades (and previously seen many eye doctors), Dr. Larry Sarver and his staff are unsurpassed. Not only technically excellent, they are also highly responsive and polite. Consequently, even after moving some distance away, I still travel to their office for appointments. Kathy Mirzai is their highly-trained optician with an elegant and timeless style-sense. She earlier did such a good job of fitting me with her recommendation for eyeglasses, that they remain up-to-date and comfortable to this day. Thank you everyone! read more

Love this optometrist! I have been coming here for the past two years. Dr. Sakai was highly recommended by my ex coworker. I used to work down the street so it was super convenient to come to this optometrist, but then i moved 15 miles away, and honestly, I was too happy with this optometrist and business that I didn't want to look for another one. Worth the drive. Dr. Sakai is super personable, friendly, thorough and very knowledgeable. I had been going to my previous optometrist for my entire eye correcting vision life(around 10 years old?) and he was awesome too, but retired, but I don't remember him being as thorough as Dr.Sakai. I love all the extra tests they perform to make sure my eye health up to par. Front staff is super friendly, Kureig machine is a plus, paid street parking kinda sucks. Dr Jazzy (Jasmine) is very professional, sharp and competent with an excellent bed side manner and treats my 10 year old. The office staff are friendly and provide excellent customer service. We went by the office this [ast weekend to get two pair of Costco-made glasses tightened (which they did without hesitation) and replacing a fallen off part on my daughter's prescription sunglasses (via warranty) which we did source there. I read all the yelp reviews...and they're right! Dr. Scott Yokoi is so amazing! I had to schedule an appointment ~1 month in advance but this place is worth waiting for. I HATE going to the optometrist ever since I've had glasses as a child...currently with -9.0 prescription, every time I go to the eye doctor I'm reminded how imperfect I am. All jokes aside, Rockridge optometry made my experience as pleasant as possible. Stepping into the shop, I was kindly greeted by the staff. They had waters, etc. out. I was quickly swept away to do the prelim eye exams, and then I met Dr. Yokoi. Dr. Yokoi was extremely nice, very intelligent and definitely knew a lot about eyes. He answered all my questions patiently (i.e. "Will I go blind? Can I do Lasik? Can you explain what everything you're doing is?") and I learned a lot. He cares a lot about his patients and I am definitely going back next year. I got my pupils dilated to check out the health and not only was the cost waived since I'm a first-time client but they also gave me some weird foldy sunglasses to wear as it was sunny outside. I have VSP insurance and this is one of the locations I go to. Their contacts are a ​reasonable price as well! I would highly recommend Rockridge optometry and Dr. Yokoi to anyone who wants someone good to take care of your eyes...after all, we only have one pair! read more

I did not like my previous Optometrist and decided to try my luck finding one near where I live. I'm in Rockridge a good amount and decided to try my luck here at Rockridge Optometry because they have really good reviews here at Yelp. The receptionists were nice, my optometrist was pleasant, and all seemed well. I did not like any of the frames they had (which was surprisingly limited) and decided to order Ray Bans frames, they told me that that it would need to be ordered and then fitted before they can put my lenses in. They told me they would call me when the frames arrived. Three weeks passed and no phone call, I phoned them back and Shawn told me, "Oh they just arrived today." I was a bit skeptical to be honest, as that's what someone that forgot would say, but I took it with a grain of salt and let it go. After getting fitted for the frames they told me they would send it in and attach the lenses. I was weary and asked them how long it would take and they assured me that they would call when they got it in. I think you guys already know where this is going. Three weeks later no phone call, I just called them today and they put me on hold. Shawn picked up the phone call and told me that they have my glasses ready. I was a little upset and told him that this is the second time they had forgot to call me for my glasses and he "apologized" but I could tell by his tone that he could care less. I could almost forgive them for forgetting my glasses but the "oh well" tone deaf apology really does not sit well with me. They make a good amount of money from my insurance and I paid close to 300 extra dollars on top with upgrades to my glasses and I really feel that deserved a bit more customer service. I don't know if I am coming back to Rockridge Optometrist in the future but honestly I don't think they care. read more

I come here for Dr Sarver, who does a great exam and is easy going with a good sense of humor. I get my glasses here because they always work well for me and the only time I tried a different optometrist, the glasses were just not quite right. But god, I hate it when I have to order my glasses, it is one expensive ordeal. I have never had the gracious attention and help that I had at the other establishment, it's almost like they resent selling you glasses unless you look like you live in Rockridge. I'd rather go to the dentist than get glasses here, but yet...once the humiliation is over I do have a good pair of specs. read more

Very friendly staff, optician, and dr. Larry is knowledgeable and nice. I am annoyed at hidden charge of contact evaluation exam? I didn't know I was getting that and surprised they charged me $65 for it. Buying new glasses is already a couple hundred dollars but we upfront agree on the price. So I questioned front desk about it, she said that's normal, everyone who wears contacts gets charged this.... So regardless of what I ask for I get this charge? I am AMAZED at the people who work here. They're as friendly as they can get. The staff here genuinely enjoyed working there and enjoyed working for people. It's almost like walking into optometry heaven. They were all really patient and they were knowledgeable. I had Dr. Yokoi and he is a really friendly guy and very thorough with the exam. He made sure my prescription was accurate, checking a second time after dilating the pupils. There is also someone staffed just to help get glasses. I'm not sure what that person's job's called but yeah, there's a technician who helps you get fitted for glasses. read more

I had been coming to Rockridge Optometry for close to a decade and had referred multiple people. Up until this year I had always been satisfied with my experiences. I had started to have some significant challenges wearing contacts and came in for an exam. The doctors are all great but they couldn't figure out what was happening, and recommended I wear glasses in the meantime. This is where things started to go off the rails. The doctor recommended backing off my prescription, the prescription I was used to and comfortable with. I'd get used to it he said. OK sound good. The trouble really began when we got to the glasses phase. It should be noted that i have a strong prescription, and hadn't gotten a new pair of glasses in several years. The initial lenses really felt wrong, and looked completely different from a pair of backup glasses I was using for reference. Thru some combination of the recommended prescription adjustment and the lenses themselves, my vision was awful. Things that should have been sharp were blurry, and looking at anything outside of the center of the lens was blurry as well. I was told to try to get used to them.. and, to make an already long story short, I had them remade at least 3 times. At some point they seemed at a loss about what to do.. and the office manager essentially asked me to find another optometrist. So after a couple of months of struggling to get a decent pair of glasses I was essentially back to square 1, and made to feel like I was being.. too picky to want to see well. I went to Grand Lake Optometry, who were very thoughtful about my situation, examined my backup lenses and determined how to make a new pair that would work. They were great, always patient, and helped me get fitted properly. Finally, after half a year of frustration, I'm all set. read more

Cindy Sakai is a great optometrist and I have been going to Rockridge Optometry for a number of years. But no more. Their staff is just horrible in communications and follow-up. I ordered Silhouette frames in March and when I called in a month later to ask where they were, they informed me that they had made a mistake on the order and had to resubmit. Okay, everyone makes a mistake. But couldn't you call me to let me know? I then waited another six weeks -- NO CONTACT. I wrote an email to their office manager expressing my dissatisfaction and saying I was cancelling my order and wanted my $1k+ refunded back to me. She called me, apologized profusely, said the glasses had just come in (yeah, right!). I told her I didn't blame her personally but that the staff need much better training about customer service and communication, and she agreed. I also told her I still wanted my refund and I didn't want the glasses (I'm not sure I even believed they were in). Oh, one more thing: please send me my prescription via email so I could go to another place. She said no problem and would send it immediately. THREE WEEKS LATER, I had to send a follow-up email, repeating my request for the prescription. A couple of days later, it was send to me. With no apology. read more

Excellent service, I had to get prescription sunglasses repaired and was looking for a local optician (driving out to Danville wasn't worth it any more). They fit me in right away and didn't try to upsell me on anything. The glasses came back in the time promised and I will be picking them up next week. I had an appointment scheduled and when I called to say I was finding parking I was told they tried calling me to tell me my insurance didn't allow me to come until it's been two years and I had just received my insurance card yesterday for my new insurance. The receptionist didn't want to look up my insurance until I asked several times. When I went in they said the next patient was there when she could've told me on the phone. Really happy with the staff and quality of care here. I have a lot of questions sometimes and it's nice to be accommodated by the optometrist, eyewear staff, and the front desk! Always easy and casual to get in and follow-up! I also appreciate that Dr. Junge is always interested and comes back with answers when I ask about weird eye-health questions. I never feel judged or like I'm asking anything too asinine! She has a great memory too. It's always welcome when a doc obviously remembers or has re-read my chart before an exam! read more

You know, every once in a while I come across five star reviews at certain establishments and really wonder if that rating is legitimate or if they just have like family friends flooding great reviews. Well I'm here to tell you that Rockridge Optometry really deserves Every single five star rating is not more. Dr. Sakai is seriously the most thorough, doctor i've ever had the pleasure of being seen by. And that's including every single physician, podiatrist, dermatologist, obgyn etc. lol you get the point. She really took extra time and made me feel so comfortable to ask questions and I was also very impressed with her hunger to make sure that I have the best outcome possible. I'm very very grateful for my experience by with her at my appointment today! It's really unfortunate that I can't go to her for all my ailments lol. Doctors across the world could learn some things from her and should look to her as an example of the types of interactions, and relationships you should have with your patients! Not only is Dr. Sakai exceeding all my expectations, their office staff is just as friendly, welcoming, and very well informed! They didn't have the glasses I wanted to try in Stock so they ordered pretty much every color for me so I can try the ones I want, and They gave me some amazing recommendations for some great Thai food today to top off my already amazing experience! 10s across the board! read more

I have to say Olivia is an amazing person. Don't be fooled by the Rockridge location. IThey are very wholesome and inclusive of different social economic classes.
