Really glad I trusted the reviews on here. I've been pushing off my much needed optometrist appointment for a while. You know how you just get so busy... Anyway, making the appointment over the phone was quick and easy. It's in a great spot, you can go shopping or eating right before or after! Parking is going to be difficult so maybe give yourself a bit of a headstart. I was in early and got all the usual tests done quickly. The staff was kind and friendly. And the waiting area was nice and clean. Music was surprisingly awesome, contemporary, popular stuff. And lots of up-to-date magazines in the wait area as well. You can't get bored. I have needed to get glasses for a few years now and each time I see her she mentions that glasses would be helpful but not necessary and it is up to me if I would like to start using them. She also is very knowledgeable. In the intake form when I see her each year they ask to list any new medications, I listed one that can be cause for concern as having possible damage to my eye site which I would have otherwise never had known about. She also is very accessible after my exam I still had a few questions and she stayed late answering them. Good spot to have in town. They have a decent selection. My wife and I both use them for our glasses & contacts. Only reasons for two star deductions are, their hours seem to be unreliable. Sometimes you show up at the store and they're just closed. They also often get our contact lens orders incorrect. A bit frustrating. They also tell you that they have vendors coming on certain days and the vendor is nowhere to be found. The latter may not be their fault, but it still reflects on their business. With that said, the do accept VCP insurance! read more

I went in back to back within a month about 4 times, to check out their frames because I have an infant with me and my time is limited. Perfect fit and looks darn awesome on me. I've been wearing them all day and they don't feel heavy nor uncomfortable. It truly is worth it to get a costly frames. I already had my prescription with another doctor so I just bought the frames and lens from them and the lens are superior. No glare, anti-reflective and light weight. I loved, seriously loved Dr. Osorio and when he told me he was packing up and moving his family back to Detroit I was disappointed to the say the least. I've seen many an eye doctor in my day since I've been wearing glasses since the 2nd grade. Dr. Osorio sold his practice to Dr. Moonsamy and he promised us, his loyal customers, that we'd be happy. Needed to switch eye doctors and Dr. Moonsamy was recommended to me. Wow, totally exceeded my expectations. I needed bi-focals, contacts and computer reading glasses. In the past have had problems getting the prescription right. Dr. Moonsamy took her time, listened to all my concerns, did a thorough exam and had suggestions. She is the first eye doctor I've gone to that has actually allowed me to try on multiple different brands of contacts before making a selection. Also explained the different options for computer glasses. Her staff was really great as well, friendly, helpful and attentive. But the main thing are of course the glasses and contacts I got. Again WOW, Dr. Moonsamy was spot on with the prescription so for the glasses and contacts I got, I can totally tell the difference. Love them because they have definitively corrected my vision. I don't know who Dr. Moonsamy is but I got a male Optometrist. He was okay, not great but not bad. The selection they had were outdated and small, in my opinion. They charged me $50 for antireflective lens, I came back and showed them a printout of my coverage which states it should have only been $40. They continue to argue that on top of the anti reflective lens it also made it anti scratch (?). Not exactly sure but I was disappointed that they had not mentioned it before. It honestly was only $10 but I didn't appreciate them not being upfront in the beginning with what all my charges were. To add to that, the guy fitting my glasses kept telling me to smile. When I made an appointment, I asked how much the exam costs due to my previous experience of a big surprise that it costs me $240 elsewhere! It turned out that I have a vision insurance that it covers, but would have been $99 without it. The doctor and the other lady who helped me with payments/glasses both were very efficient. Based on friend Edward K's review, I visited Dr. Ursula Moonsamy for the first time last year for my annual eye exam and got fantastic service. Knowledgeable, thorough and patient, she answered all my questions and offered advice I didn't think to ask. She's also a delightful person -- as are her staff, many of whom are family members, who exude the same warmth and care. Lately I've had to stop wearing contacts due to an eye condition, and decided the occasional Costco pair just weren't cutting it for full-time use. Previous rounds of eyewear shopping have involved trips to multiple stores and an eventual feeling of compromise vs. satisfaction in my purchase. This time I visited Dr. Moonsamy's staff and store, and found a pair I liked in 10 minutes. Alyssia mentioned that the style's special lens treatment would make getting them a ten-day wait. She called Neil over, who checked and said he would rush the order and try to get them in two days. Well, two days later Neil calls to say they're being delivered and I could come pick them up. Dr. Moonsamy and her staff make me wish there was a 6-star Yelp rating. It's rare to find both the level of professionalism and customer service they offer. ***About their posted hours: it doesn't include that the office is closed for lunch weekdays from 1-2pm. Warning! This is going to sound like a biased review - but if I had a bad employer, you bet your horses I wouldn't be saying nice things about them. At all. So let me tell you this: DR. MOONSAMY IS A WONDERFUL OPTOMETRIST! I have been going to her for the past 7 years. I come in every once in a while to pick up my contacts and for the annual eye exam. I worked there in 2006 and let me tell you - they are just as friendly towards clients as they are to their staff. Behind closed doors, they treated me just like family. Unlike my previous optometrist, who was more like a hi-bye business kind of deal, Dr. Moonsamy takes the time to listen to what you're saying and explains things to you. She'll give you her honest opinion without pressuring you, which I always appreciated. She never made me feel rushed during an appointment even during a busy day. Love this place! PS. After shlepping to SF to our old optometrist for well over a decade, my wife and I decided it finally was time to find someone closer to home. The favorable Yelp reviews were compelling. My calls to Dr. Moonsamy's office to ascertain among other things where she earned her degree (U.C. Berkeley School of Optometry) were comforting. Our actual meeting with, and exam by, Dr. Moonsamy, were downright cool. My wife is in the medical profession and highly skeptical of other practitioners. As for me, I had a lingering feeling of loyalty to our old eye doctor. It took about 12 seconds for that to be melted away by Dr. Moonsamy's kindness, warmth, and professionalism. She is that unique combination of being very knowledgeable, a great listener, and very personable. Everyone there also treated us with warm smiles, kindness, and attentiveness. It is a friendly, and not sterile, environment. They had a good collection of frames. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Moonsamey and her wonder staff, Niel and Alyssia. I met Dr. Moonsamy when she was a 4th year graduate student at the Tang Center in U.C. Berkeley. She was the only one who diagnosed my special and rare eye condition. She diagnosed that I need prism in my glasses. She saved me from a lifelong struggle with skipping the lines when reading. I struggled so hard as a student at CAL with reading because I did not have the proper eyewear. She also recommended the proper lenses for my prescription that makes it thin and light. Otherwise, i would have Coke bottle glasses. I have been her client since 1997. I was thrilled when she opened Eyecare in Oakland. I followed her there immediately for my new glasses. Her brother Niel is also a real sweetheart, just like Dr. M. He takes the time and attention to detail to adjust my glasses. The clinic is also very classy and carries high end designers like La Font, Face A Face, Gucci, Prada, and more. This summer I purchased a limited edition La Font sunglasses with Swarovski crystals that is just gorgeous. Very unique eyewear not found any wear else. In addition to the excellent customer service, great range of frame prices and styles, and the fact that she's in my provider network, I have to give some bonus points for the following: - They spent 15 minutes adjusting a pair of old frames that I did not purchase there. I totally didn't ask them to, they just noticed they were hell of crooked and offered to do it. - Dr. Moonsamy taught me something new about my eyes! I have some really weird vision issues, which I've always known. I've had ontacts before, and had some issues with them. However, this amazing lady used SCIENCE to explain to me why contacts have not worked for me, which no optometrist has ever done. I've had vision problems since I was in 1st grade. This means two things: 1) I've gotten to know many optometrists 2) I really should know better than to treat my eyes so poorly. This is the first time I've felt I needed to recommend an optometrist to anyone who will listen. I love this place and I love the people. I was first brought here on the recommendation of a friend of mine, who also was a patient of Dr. Moonsamy. I had to fill my prescription last Saturday to order a pair of glasses after I lost my pair on vacation a month ago, and Alicia said that it would take about a week to 10 days for my glasses to arrive; however, I got a text from Alicia and it said that they were ready to be picked up. My first experience many years ago with Dr. Moosami was awesome. She is polite, attentive, smart, and very pleasing to the eyes! Her services are as awesome as her sense of fashion and how she looks. I totally trust all her recommendations and advice. She cares for your well being, she is flexible with requests, and is open to everything you have to say. She explains everything in detail, and if you don't understand, its not a problem for her to explain to where you can understand. A little bit of history I was with Eye Care when Dr. Osorio was there (more than 10 years ago), and then Dr. Moosami took over all the patients. (I think he was relocating to another country?) I was a little skeptical of the unknown, but my experiences with her and her staff makes me recommend EVERY one to check the office out. (Her staff are all very nice looking also!) They are honest with their opinion on how the glasses look on you, and will take as much time needed to help you pick the right one with your budget. Yes, you are still a nerd. You will just be a nerd with cool glasses. Well... thats better than not having cool glasses. And I would rather have cool people help me than just anyone. I was desperate, I was petrified. Not really, but Dr. Moonsamy saved me from my hideous four-eyed self. I ran out of contacts (how does this always happen to me?) and was forced to wear my "emergency glasses". Picture glasses that have been crazy glued together several times over after being sat on, squished between couch cushions, etc. For extra effect, they sit a little crooked on my face. Or is my face crooked? I can't figure all of this out right now. All I know is that I need contact lenses and I need them now. Dr. Moonsamy's staff treated me like a long time patient, even though I've never been there before. They didn't have my lenses in stock, but gave me a pair to wear until my order came in.
