Does not return texts or voice-mail even when given a referral from another office. Would not recommend.

Very friendly and knowledgeable. He didn't try to push anything on me and I appreciated his professionalism.

She and her staff are great and a pleasure to be around. She is like that fun aunt that you look forward in seeing on holidays.

Okamoto and her fabulous staff for many years, and I can't say enough positive things about this business.

I will never return to this office. There are 6 doctors. Some might be good, but definitely that is…read morenot Scott Lee. Even if you speak Cantonese, stay away from Scott Lee. Get an interpreter instead. Around 2011 or 2012, the optometrist gave my dad a letter to EBRC. I knew this was not a referral, so I contacted his PCP to send the referral. I checked with the PCP office, the referral had been faxed. I called EBRC, and they confirmed they had received it. On the day of his first appointment. They told me that they didn't have the referral. I was worried I had to reschedule and come back on a different date. Fortunately, they told me that my dad's Medicare Supplement Insurance was PPO. That is very helpful information. I can choose a doctor directly and skip the referral process. In short, his right eye was losing vision. I understood that he's not at the early stage, that's no treatment. Once vision is lost, it is lost and is not reversible. But the terrible and misleading part is, Scott Lee told us in Cantonese on every visit, "Don't worry, you won't be blind. 放心,唔會盲" and "no change, it's the same." etc. Since he's a retina specialist, I expected my dad to have macular degeneration. He never told us what his condition was, even though he speaks Cantonese. Dr. Lee was raised in Hong Kong. Until 2018, my dad's PCP told us that he also had retina detachment. I was shocked. The other ridiculous thing is, on his annual visits, Dr. Lee only checks his right eye, one eye only, the bad eye. Even my dad complained his vision was getting worse, and I requested to check his left eye, the good eye. Dr. Lee refused. He said only the right eye. Finally, we switched to Dr Brinton in 2022. He will pay more attention to my dad's left eye, the good eye. On the first visit, he told us my dad also had cataract issue. At that time, I didn't know that term in English. He uses "cloudily" to explain to me, so I understand that it is 白內障. Unfortunately, we did not receive a cataract surgeon referral from EBRC like other Yelp reviewers. His left eye already saw everything red and burly. He can't read at all. 2024, during the family talk. My relative told me that it sounds like my dad has cataract issue. I recalled that EBRC told me that my dad's insurance was PPO. I rushed him to a Cataract surgeon. After his surgery, he resumed his reading ability. I don't know why we had the terrible experience and bad luck with EBRC, because my dad was too old, or we didn't speak English? Here is the difference. The new retina doctor sees my dad twice a year. He told us he also had a dry eye. He gave us instructions on how to preserve his remaining vision.

West Coast Retina (WCR) is a gem. As an enrollee w/ Kaiser Oakland for 38 yrs. I've had…read moreexcellent surgeons + excellent surgeons for family members. HOWEVER: Recent visits w/ Kaiser Oakland Eye Dept. surgeons has sent me searching for better options. Kaiser Oakland's cataract surgeon found a "bump" in my retina, so I was referred to their Kaiser Oakland's retina surgeon, who was dismissive and un-helpful. My search for a 2nd opinion led me to WCR which was recommended by a professional whose opinion I respect. At WCR on 30th St. in Oakland, I was examined by Dr. Georgia Kamboj. She was wonderful -- I highly recommend her to anyone w/ retina issues: 1) She explained the layers of the bump in my retina, the bubble, the layer of scar tissue -- something neither Kaiser surgeon --- cataract nor retina -- took the time to do ; 2) she explained the range of outcomes from cataract and subsequent retina surgery --- neither Kaiser surgeon did that; 3) she explained the actual focal distances of the lenses used in cataract surgery. Kaiser just emails you a video reviewing the distance options, but no recommendations, or explanations why. Then, you're left with the responsibility to select which focal length you want installed on your eyeball -- as if the patient has a degree in Optometry. 4) Dr Kamboj also answered my questions about focusing at the different distances post-cataract-op. Kaiser's cataract surgeon never explained the real focal distances -- they just tell you Far, Mid-Range, and Close. Dr Kamboj explained the actual focal distance for the range choices, and answered my questions about how they work (b/c I also have astigmatism) post-cataract surgery-- something Kaiser surgeons never did; 5) Dr Kamboj explained why she prefers doing cataract surgery one eye at a time.....At Kaiser they'll do both at the same time unless you request otherwise. Kaiser Oakland Eye Dept now seems like an inferior quality, high-speed processing facility. I really appreciate Dr Georgia Kamboj's answering my questions, explaining what was going on in my eye, the "whys and wherefores" of the choices, etc. Dr Kamboj was very thorough, very helpful and extremely knowledgeable. When I initially entered their bldg, I was apprehensive b/c the bldg is clean, but quite outdated. The waiting room was also outdated , w/ only "People" magazines avail -- giving me some doubts. However, I had heard excellent appraisals about WCR and after my excellent experience, my doubts were dispelled. Their quality was vastly superior to Kaiser Oakland's Eye Dept. I now check cataract and retina surgeons' credentials online before scheduling an app't. Dr. Georgia Kamboj's credentials exceeded those of the retina surgeon I saw at Kaiser Oakland.
