I would highly recommend this office. It has been another year and I got the friendly text reminder text to come in. I appreciate reminders. I was seen on time in the office. Was greeted with a warm and white glove service welcome. Dr Hansson was very professional and laid back. My eye exam was very straight forward, Dr Hansson even apologized that there were no major changes after my exam, loved his humor. After the exam I sat down with one of the reps to go over my glasses needs. Narrowed down to frame and type of glasses I wanted (transitional colored and anti-reflective lenses), was transparent with even breaking down the costs and what my insurance covered, appreciated the full disclosure. Gave me an ETA of 2.5-3wks for glasses arrival. I came in on 5/21 so I called on 6/2 just to follow in case it had already arrived but they were too busy to inform me. Turns out it just got mailed out on 6/2 and was assured it will arrive sometime this week. I called on Saturday 6/13 at noon since i haven't heard anything back and found out it had actually arrived on Friday. This was the minor issue I had, Saturday morning since they've opened no one reached out to me, they close on Sundays and Mondays so if I never followed up on Sat, i would not be getting them until Tuesday and I actually needed them asap too. I don't buy that they were too busy to notify me via call/txt/email unless their foot traffic was like the lines at In N Out. Overall, glasses were great! Will come back again! read more

I have debating on if I was going to write this review because the encounter was so uncomfortable. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this place to anyone looking to be treated with respect and dignity. I went to visit with my family the overall exam was good. I was told my glasses would be ready in a week. I had tried calling the next week and had not received a call or notification about my glasses. I had left voice messages and not heard back from anyone at all. I had called a bunch of times so finally I decided to call on my way there, maybe 40 times, as I am walking in I am still calling and I don't hear a phone ringing but there is someone sitting at the desk, I ask him what their phone number is and he gives it to me as I am still calling with the phone to my ear and I ask is the phone working, he looks at the phone and says yes and I said is it ringing because that's me calling right now. I then ask to speak to the owner/manager, I thought h would be welcomed and my concerned heard as a business owner but instead I was met with defensiveness as soon as I sat down. There were a few things mentioned in that conversation that made me feel very uncomfortable as a POC. He mentioned to me that "people want top sirloin work with Burger King money" and "this is not Richmond where people are just happy to get glasses" (mentioning this because I had previously mentioned this was where my last eye visit was during my exam visit) As a business owner, you should never make your customers feel what I felt that day which is why it took so long for me to finally write this review. I was so upset at how I was made feel in the moment when all I was trying to do was let him know my phone calls had been ignored for three days, I did not place blame on him or anyone else this my feedback as a customer. He then put his ego aside somewhat after I said this, when I mentioned I didn't get a call that my glasses were ready he checked and said I should've got a message but when I showed him I had received nothing from the number that texted me about appointments he then checked and saw no message was sent to let me know on his end. The conversation ended with no accountability really being taken as far as his reaction towards me and no apology for the things that had been stated prior. Please just know you may get good service but if there are anything that goes wrong you will get met with a very defensive owner who handles himself in an unprofessional way when there is a complaint. read more

I only received one call to reschedule the day before (that I missed and went to VM), and then a text confirming to come in for my appointment the day of. Mixed signals! I was last there about a year ago for a routine eye examination. They use a lot of gadgets to check your eyes that I have not seen at my ophthalmologist 's office. Dr. Hansson is very personable and I was happy with his work. Anne at the front desk was very knowledgeable, and I ended up purchasing some glasses from Alameda Eyes. She's the best. One thing about the office I really like is your ability to leave a text message at their phone number. They might not respond immediately, but they do respond. Challenging street parking only. I recently turned to yelp to help me find a new optometrist. I had been with the same provider for over 10 years so when they moved I was unsure of where to go. After reading the reviews for Dr. Hansson and his team everyone seemed nice and knowledgeable so I booked my appointment. The location is easy to get to on Park Street. Upon arriving I was welcomed in by the courteous staff, we went over what brought me in and I did the initial tests as I waited for Dr. Hansson. They had a wonderful selection of glasses, that I browsed while waiting to be seen. Dr. Hansson came out with child patient and was so sweet and caring with him. I wish all the rest of my healthcare was like the care I get here. I have a lot of health conditions that intersect with the health of my eyes and Dr. Hansson listens really well and keeps a thorough med history. It's the kind of care that makes me want to stay with this clinic into old age because instead of just slinging frames, they will have a continuous file for me that will catch progressive conditions so we can be proactive about preventative care. Everyone who works here is really nice, and while sometimes they are very busy, usually someone comes around to help me pick out some very cute frames. I have been here twice, once for glasses and once for contacts. Both times the doctor was extremely sweet and non judgmental when I asked even silly questions. The front staff are always welcoming and super helpful! Today was my first time trying contacts and they walked me through every step from taking them out, putting them on, and how to care for them. There was a point where I was trying to take the contacts out and miserably failing, it was taking a very long time, and the amazing woman helping me was so patient and didn't make me feel bad about it whatsoever ( which i am very thankful for because I have some anxiety) They even gave me a free bottle of contact solution and set me up with a follow up appointment to make sure my contacts are working for me. Should I exit? A: Hmmm. Maybe.... B: I think that's it! A: TURN! NOW! That's it! SCREEEEEEEEEEEEECH! The shop is very high-tech. They have all these video-game like things to assess your eyesight, and they are gentle with the eye-squeamish. My doctor was somewhat humorless, but the prescription he gave me was good. 5 stars for the folks behind the counter. They are super friendly and will let you try on every frame in the shop, some of them twice or fifteen times. They will tell you what looks good and what should be avoided. They will take pix of you with your cell phone so you can see what you look like in the frames (since you can't see without your glasses on). It's some of the best customer service around. read more

1. The super nice and accommodating front desk people spent what seemed like hours helping me find glasses for my very round head. They were truly kind about it as I tried on each frame in the shop and sought out reassurances that *this* pair of frames didn't make me look more like a Muppet. 2. Dr. Hansson ran a bunch of tests that I don't think I've had done before or haven't had done in years, which I found very comforting. He also spent an hour listening (the exam was very thorough and lasted the full hour) to each question I had and explained in just enough detail the elements of eye health. He said my retina photo was "textbook perfect", which was the nicest thing anyone has said to me in a long time. Dr. Hansson is a very gentle and knowledgeable optometrist. I've worked in the healthcare industry for over 25 years and about 9 of those years in ophthalmology. I went in for a regular eye "check-up" and on another occasion an eye infection. I felt so good about the care I received I referred my sister to him when she had a severe eye infection. His fees are reasonable and I can't put a price on how genuine this doctor is. Thank you. Side note! I thought that this place was really good Optometry Clinic that was until today! Just to give a little background; my son and myself went to Alameda Eyes Optometry about 4 yrs ago and we were really happy with the service that Dr H provided to us, he explains and answers any questions we had and we didn't feel rush, Dr H is really friendly and has really good manners towards his patients, we were really happy with the service that we decided to always go to Dr H for glasses. My insurance changed the following year so we weren't able to go to Alameda Eye Optometry until 2018, we went in December, we had eye exam and Dr H once again provided us GREAT customer service, I place an order for my sons eye glasses and my sunglasses. We went to pick the glasses up today and the receptionist that helped us initially (skinny, white, straight short blond hair lady) sorry she didn't introduce herself so I don't even know her name! Was not friendly at all! she never smiled and basically pull my sons glasses from behind her desk out and handed them to him, didn't clean the glasses, didn't walk him to the desk area where they normally take their customers to try on glasses, she seemed annoyed and bothered to help us! when my son opened the case to check his glasses the frame was damaged so we pointed out to her, The unfriendly receptionist didn't acknowledged our concern she instead continued to try to locate the sunglasses I ordered and once again after finding them she just handed them to me, didn't clean my glasses or have me try them on the desk area, nothing,she basically just handed us both our glasses and was pretty much done with us! I have never been to a place where you order glasses and they don't clean them, have you try them on in front of a mirror and ask if the glasses need to be adjusted! Never! Today was my first time and is sad because I really like the Doctor but I'm not happy with the poor customer service my son and myself received from the white, skinny blond hair receptionist. Luckily for us the unfriendly receptionist handed us to the nice receptionist, they do have a very nice receptionists named Angelica who took over and offered to send my sons frame back for replacement. My son is very upset now because he doesn't have his new glasses ( we ordered them back on 12/29/18) and even though we just went today 1/26/19 to pick them up why didn't the office inspect the glasses before having their customers come to the office to pick defective glasses up? ....... I'm not sure if we'll ever go back to Alameda Eye Optometry, and is not because of the Doctor, he is really good! is mainly because of the poor customer service from the front office. Dr. Hansson and his staff are THE best. I brought my wife here for her eye exam and Dr, Hansson was very kind, professional and knowledgeable. He's very friendly with his "My friend's." I sat around while my wife was getting her examination and I could tell the optician is very knowledgeable by the way she was interacting with other customers. The entire encounter at the office took about an hour as Dr, Hansson was running a little late with his previous patient but we didn't mind. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and treat us with utmost respect. They helped us to get my wife's contact lenses covered by the insurance while all other optometrists in the past have tried to scam us into buying them at full price. Dr. Hansson even mailed us a HANDWRITTEN thank you letter! Amazing! We're definitely returning. The only negative thing about this office is the parking because you have to pay for metered parking, which is a bummer, but there's a parking lot with meters around the corner from the office if you cannot find street parking nearby. read more
