They DO NOT MEASURE PD, WHICH IS NECESSARY FOR ORDERING GLASSES!!!!! I can't wear contacts every day, so I also need glasses. I called Target Optical and asked if they measure PD for glasses. Brittany at Target Optical answered, "Yes, we do." I even asked Brittany if she's sure they measure PD, and she said yes, so I made an appointment. I paid Target Optical $130 for a useless prescription I couldn't use to order glasses!!!!! I had to go to another optometry office where they DO measure PD (Dr. Irani at Fruitvale Optometry [excellent doctor]) just to order glasses. Dr. Irani gave me a prescription with my PD value on it. Also, at Target Optical, Dr. Juang gave me the wrong contact lens prescription!!! I ordered contacts online with Dr. Juan's prescription and couldn't see with my new contacts!!!! I had to go to Target Optical again to get Dr. Juan's contact lens prescription rechecked and Dr. Chu gave me a different prescription. The last time I had an eye exam was 20 years ago. My vision isn't horrible but recently I've been needing to step up a little closer to the cash register to read food menus, so I decided it is time for some glasses. Of course I had the choice of going to a mom and pop shop, but you know that slight uneasy feeling you get when you go to any type of doctor? To avoid that feeling, I decided to choose Target Optical cause Target makes me happy haha. Dr. Votran is extremely friendly! He explained everything well and made me feel very comfortable and at ease. Steve let me take my sweet time choosing my frames. He also helped me decide between two glasses and picked the one that I was leaning towards too. The whole process took an hour. After I got home, however, I reviewed my receipt and realized that I paid more than I expected. I realized it was because I had gone to an out-of-network provider. Wish they would've mentioned it to me, but I also should have done my research beforehand. I ended up going back to return the glasses and go to an in-network provider instead. But I was still happy to do my exam with Dr. Votran, so I would still recommend this Target Optical for eye exams (and glasses if your insurance covers it)! read more

A friend recommended Target Optical in Alameda several years back after she had a great experience with their staff, and our whole family has been going there ever since. Dr. Votran and the other optometrists are great and really patient with both the children and elderly members of our family. The best part of the whole operation, though, is Studio at the front desk. Studio is the most upbeat, positive, joyful, and wonderful person on earth, and she makes a mundane appointment something to look forward to. She remembers all of us and our names and genuinely cares about our family, even asking after the others when one of us comes in. Studio is an absolute style icon to my teenager, too, and anytime we happen to be shopping at Target we always cruise by to say hi to her. We joke about starting a Facebook fanpage for Studio because my kid would be the president, secretary, and treasurer. Called in advanced to ask if they have prescription safety glasses and to proceed with an appointment if necessary. Man over the phone asked for my name and number and offered 4 pm appointment. I asked if there was anything earlier in the afternoon, he then proposed 2:15 pm I arrived at 2:10 pm and was greeted immediately, was told to have a seat. She looked up my information and couldn't find my "appointment". Called the Emeryville store to see if I made the mistake of scheduling an appointment for the wrong store? Lol.... Of course not, I live in Alameda and found this information on my health coverage website. This is my 3rd year going for prescription safety glasses, HOWEVER this is my first AND LAST time I would go to a Target Optical over an actual optometrist practice. For one, they did not in fact book an appointment. They are absolutely not busy at this time on a Thursday and accept walk-ins. Second, as I have gone to the eye doctor for over 10 years now, I am accustomed to the receptionist looking up my information before we both waste our time in person. So I end up spending a bit over 30 minutes in the chair just for the lady to look at some Target safety glasses policy and state they do not accept my company's insurance. She had no idea what kind of paperwork I brought in! She just read that I need to go to the website. Dr. Truong called me to say that she gave me the wrong prescription. Now, I have to go back into the store because they refuse to email me the updated prescription. When I called the front desk, the gentleman who answered hung up immediately. He was also rude when I called back. I was not upset at first but he tried to argue that my prescription was not wrong and was unwilling to help. 4 stars to Dr. Truong for following up. 1 star to the front desk guy. So unfortunately I have to give this place a terrible star rating. I literally not only had 1 bad experience here but 5! The first time my husband and I came we were new patients. So we had to see the eye doctor to get our prescriptions and then move on to picking glasses. I give the eye doctor 5 stars he truly was amazing! Good at his job, knows what he's doing and quick in and out. The 1 star review is for the staff that works in the glasses department. Truth be told the worst part was dealing with Phil and Rosie. Neither of them knew the job and had to keep asking each other how to do this or do that which was interesting because neither of them really knew what they were doing. My husband and I spent 30 minutes with the eye doctor and that is including wait time. Our appointment was at 12:00 we were done with him by 12:40! I mean we don't have eye issues so it's your basic does this look better 1 or 2 type situation. However once we got done with him we were picking out our glasses and that took 3 hours! Yep that's right 3 hours! We were in target optical for a total of 3 hours just to get glasses and an eye exam because Rosie and Phil couldn't figure out my husbands sunglasses and my glasses on the computer. The excuse was that the Rayban's had just changed in the computer update so they couldn't get the type of glasses my husband wanted in the frame he wanted. On top of that other customers came and went and came and went but we just sat patiently trying to figure out each of our glasses situation. It is even more terrible as I type just remembering the experience. Once we got it all figured out we paid and left. The worst part isn't even the first time it was the 3rd and 4th and 5th time! We came to pick up our glasses (2 sunglasses and 2 regular everyday glasses) and I waited an hour just to pick up! It is what it is they were busy I get it. I got them and left. The 3rd time we went my husband had scratched up his raybans at work and we had a warranty on them which Phil said we could replace just the lenses and keep. The frames for $25 So we actually decided okay let's do that. However! We go to pick up the replacement lenses and Rosie ordered clear bifocal glasses! How do you order clear bifocal lenses for sun glasses that have mirror tent?! I'm not sure. So that was the 3rd and 4th visit because we had to go back and pick up which made 4 times! Since she ordered the wrong thing we decided to just get a brand new pair of glasses for $50 instead of just the lenses. Then Phil proceeds to tell us that's actually better so we can have the brand new pair and we could keep the old pair for "gardening" if that's what we chose to do! So we thought excellent choice! The 5th time we go is for pick up of the NEW sunglasses! Everything is going smoothly with Rosie until... she tells us we have to give back the old pair or sunglasses in order to collect the new ones. So we call Phil over and tell him that he never said we had to bring the old ones because he told us on the previous visit we could keep them! He explains yes he said that but he meant " only until the new ones came" ! He never explained that to us he literally told us we could keep them. So we asked him to show us in the policy. He grabbed the policy but couldn't find it. So he says okay you can keep them both because I made the mistake! So we agree and leave the store! We get home and guess who calls! Phil! Saying he needs the old sunglasses back for inventory purposes. We explain to him that we read the policy and it clearly stated that they do not need the old pair back it's all dependent on the store and he clearly said we could keep them. We asked to speak with the manager which is Studio! 5 stars to her! She got on the phone and explained that she was sorry he told us that we could keep them because clearly he was wrong for that. But she said they would need the sunglasses back for inventory purposes. We explained the entire situation and she said she was sorry for the inconvenience and we could keep the sunglasses because it was their mistake. All in all Studio really saves this target optical because no one would know how to work here with out her! She holds the place all together. I will never come back here for glasses again but I will say I'm sorry for the 1 star review but it was my honest opinion based off the situation I experienced! read more

I don't know what is used for the lens, However, whenever I looked downed with my glasses on the images were slightly blurry. I was very hesitant on getting an exam at target but every other optometrist was booked months out and target was very easy to book an appt online. I had a wonderful experience here. The front desk staff (studio & another woman I forget her name) were so wonderful and helpful. They had a great attitude and helped me with glasses even though they knew I wasn't purchasing any. Target had a great selection of brand name glasses as well. Much better than LensCrafters and another optometrist office I tried to get an appt at. I'm really happy that Target started an Optical! Now I can conveniently shop at Target, pick up my prescriptions at Target and even get my eyes checked! Dr.Votran is very professional and personable; although he talks really fast and a lot, he just wants to be able to share his knowledge to you; that way you would understand everything that he's doing and not feel left out. I have no insurance, so the cost of my eye exam (with prescription) and my contact lens exam (with prescription and one pair of contact lens with solution and case) was a total of $120. Target Optical doesn't do the 5% OFF with RedCard, so it's just full price. They have a lot of glasses frame options from ray Band, coach, dnky, and many more; I find it a little pricey, but they do have a promotion going on such as $100 on first pair or something. Making appointment was really simple and easy; by making a call or go into their office, I was able to book a next day appointment as a new patient. read more

Dr. Juang is the best optometrist ever. She's the only doctor I will get my prescription from. If I ever leave the area, I will travel just to make sure she takes care of my eyes. Dr. Juang is a treasure. She is thorough and detailed. She is meticulous with her measurements and is an excellent human. She has a wonderful bedside manner. She made my 8 yr old nephew very comfortable during his eye exam. She spent extra time answering his questions. I credit her with impressing on him the importance in wearing his glasses daily. Dr. Juang also saved my husband's vision. He had severe retinal detachments needing buckle surgery in both eyes and she caught both issues. He lacked any symptoms and wouldn't have had it checked out without Dr. Juang's intervention. I will forever be her patient. Wherever she goes, I'll follow. So happy that target has an optical! The extensive selection on ray bans and other brand name items makes it super easy to shop from. Studio, the optical assistant is very friendly and personal. She has great customer service skills. She's so sweet that you can't get mad at her for making you wait. I came in and there were about 3-4 patrons waiting, but she still managed to smile and chat with everyone while waiting. I came to this place for some reason that I did not recall but I vaguely remember it was a pleasant experience. This past weekend I dropped in one day to have my kids glasses fixed up cause I just didn't feel like driving for an hour to get this taken care of. Awesome! Dr. Chia has been amazing, helping me with choosing the right daily contacts and giving me trials to try. For the most part the front desk staff is also awesome. I feel so bad for forgetting her name but she had awesome braids in her hair and gorgeous light colored eyes! She made me feel very welcome. Looks like their Covid hours are 10-6 M-Sat. I mistakenly went later and found them to be closed because I thought they were still open until 8pm like it says on the websites. Had a positive experience with my evaluation and picking out glasses. There was only one other customer at the opposite side of the room and everyone is wearing masks. I made an appointment over the phone for the same day appointment at 4:30 pm I came 30 mins early and was seen right away after filling out the paper works. Dr. Votran came out and greeted me made me feel very welcome and comfortable through the whole process after everything was done I paid for my eye exam and choose my frame and lenses and pay for the glasses. I had to pay out of pocket since I don't have any insurance total came up to be over 500 but thankfully they had a deal forgot what the deal was call but it discounted me 100.00. Over all I had an good experience he took his time to explain to me about what was going on with my eyes and inform me that everything was good just need glasses and eye drops. read more

I am completely pleased w/ Votran Optometry @ Target. I usually go to LensCrafter but I wanted to try out another place that I thought would be cheaper because I'm on a budget. I was going to make an appointment with Walmart because they had some frames that were cute and affordable but I was completely brushed off when I called to get some info so I decided to look into Target, I DO NOT RECOMMEND Walmart at all. When I walked in, I was greeted by Tessa. Tessa was helping out another customer so I browsed around to look at their glasses. I saw a lot of really nice designer glasses that were under $200: Coach, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Ray Bans, DKNY, Oakley, Armani Exchange... They also had some off brand glasses which was pretty stylish and you'd probably be familiar with if you ever shopped for their apparel: Mossimo, Merona, Xhilaration Tessa told me about their 50% off deal (ends by the end of this month) plus 10% discount from the app cartwheel (ends by the end of next week). Their Twill & Tweed brand is currently $139 for both the frame and lenses, not sure how long this promo will be for. Tessa was very friendly, informative and really courteous, she's awesome! I really appreciated Tessa'shelp. I was examined by Dr. Lam Votran, he was also courteous and extremely helpful. Dr. Votran answered all of my questions and made the process fast. He told me about the new Acuvue Vita which I fell in love with. Between the Acuvue Vita and Acuvue Oasis, Vita is easy on the eyes, I don't feel a thing and it's monthly (vs. bi-weekly). Vita is also cheaper (112.99 for a year supply for each eye, it had an instant rebate). Oasis was irritating! Not only was it expensive (for the year supply which sometimes can be over $300) it dried quick which irritated my eye, it would always slide off of my left eye after how many days of use. I hated it. Though I used our insurance Eyemed, the prices they have was still affordable without insurance. I've spent almost $500 on glasses, contact lenses plus eye exam before but today I spent $50 for my copay, $25.98 for my contact lenses for a year supply. This is the cheapest I've ever paid. If you have a budget but still want to be stylish or buy cheaper lenses and receive good customer service, I highly recommend going here. They're awesome! read more

Where have I been? Target Optical is SOOO convenient and I left satisfied with my experience from beginning to end!
