This review is for Dr. Ernest Bloom. Especially if you're a woman, seek care elsewhere. Dr. Bloom…read moreseemed to have zero understanding or appreciation of the biological differences that exist between men and women. I was scoffed at when I explained I have PMDD (".....what is that, you mean PMS?") and not listened to when I tried to suggest my acne that flared around my luteal phase on my chin and jaw may be hormone related. Instead he told me my "skin DOES look bad" and said I should get on ACCUTANE. Are you serious? I came in complaining of minor hormonal outbreaks on my chin and jaw and you immediately go to ACCUTANE? No worries - if I don't want to get on Accutane, Dr. Bloom also has a list of supplements *from Amazon* that you can buy including a "super concentrated fish oil that's basically accutane". He recommended going the route of ordering this mystery supplement from Amazon and self administering without clinical monitoring. Aside from zero appreciation for the fact that women may have different skin needs, Dr. Bloom flat out says he doesn't believe in sunscreen and that you should just stay out of the sun and get "a big floppy hat". I have since switched to a different dermatologist in the practice who immediately and correctly identified what was causing the minor acne flare during my luteal phase. This new doctor views me through the lens of a biological woman and takes my hormone fluctuations into consideration before saying I need to get on ACCUTANE and recommending I buy a bootleg accutane-like supplement off Amazon!! In fact they have NEVER scoffed in my face, recommended I buy random supplements on Amazon, or disparaged the benefits of wearing sunscreen when outdoors. Dr. Bloom does not seem to appreciate the biological differences between men and women. He seems to be taking big gambles recommending his patients buy random supplements and skincare off Amazon because "it's cheaper" despite the proven concerns of poor quality counterfeit products being sold by Amazon. And he straight up tells you that you should never wear sunscreen because he doesn't believe in it - just wear a big floppy hat and don't go in the sun. Find a different doctor if you want modern care that actually makes a difference.

This review is long overdue!…read more Several months ago, out of nowhere, my eye was in excruciating pain. I went to urgent Care, who said it was likely a scratched cornea but they stressed I had to see a real opthalmologist the next day. I called Alameda Eye Physicians as soon as they opened and they very graciously fit me in within a matter of hours. When I woke up the next day in even more pain, again they fit me in immediately. Turned out my iris was inflamed, which is rare if there has been no physical trauma to the eye. Dr. Khong even suggested I get some blood work up done to rule out some comorbidities. Dr. Khong even called me in the evening to see if my eye pain had subsided and if I was feeling better. I think this is the first time a Dr. has called me after office hours just to check up on me. Also, every single one of the front desk people were courteous, friendly, compassionate and quick. I feel so grateful that I happened upon this practice in my time of need!

I have been a patient of Dr. Bui for several years, and I cannot speak highly enough of the medical care. Dr. Bui is fantastic, thorough, and the sole reason I have stayed with this clinic for so long. Unfortunately, the front desk staff makes every visit incredibly frustrating. For years, I have tolerated a consistent lack of professionalism and warmth at the front counter. The staff rarely seems pleasant to work with, and if you ask a simple question, they treat it as though you are causing them a major inconvenience. It is incredibly discouraging to be treated like a burden by the administrative team just to see an excellent physician. Patients deserve to be greeted with basic courtesy and respect. I highly recommend the doctor, but the practice desperately needs to invest in customer service training for their front desk staff.

The diagnosis was made without adequate evidence, yet he proceeded to operate. People would comment unprompted that I looked unnatural. More importantly, I developed serious functional problems that I had never experienced before the operation. There was no clear plan to manage the complications. I was left to figure out how to deal with permanent medical problems on my own. Since then I have consulted many other physicians who have not provided helpful guidance. It was and still is normal that I would be in so much pain that I didn't know if I'd wake up the next day. This surgery permanently altered my quality of life. The lack of accountability and follow-up care afterward was deeply disturbing.

Pricing was explained upfront and was reasonable--no surprises. I felt completely comfortable and confident. The procedure was quick and painless. The best thing is that everything looks natural. I've seen the results some people have had done at other places and their faces looks frozen and weird. I look "refreshed" and more awake. I'm so happy I didn't wait any longer. His staff is friendly and helpful as well, parking is easy. The office is bright and modern. Highly recommend.

If I wanted to move forward with the other surgeries, they should follow. He advised that a quote would be emailed, which never arrived. I called the office the following week and the receptionist made excuses for the business manager, who was to forward the quote. She'll be back in the office Monday and you'll receive the details then, yet no email arrived. I called a week later and my calls (phone number) had, apparently, been programmed to go sraight to voicemail automatically. I understand that Dr. Chin didn't want to move forward, but why wouldn't he simply just say this during the consultation, e.g., 'I don't believe you're a good candidate for this procedure.' or 'I don't think I'm the right doctor to proceed with this. Let me recommend someone else.'?? In fact, he ended the consultation with "Yes, we can definitely do this. The front desk will provide a quote and schedule, if you want to proceed." Based on this experience, he and his front desk staff were lieing to my face (and ears), which was both frustrating and incredibly unprofessional. If Dr. Chin didn't want to do it, he should just say so and/or have his staff advise. At least, he could show a little respect for others. He should not take people's money (the consultation fee isn't cheap), then lie to them and have your staff lie, as well. If you want an MD like this, he'll happily take your money! I'd rather trust my surgeon, one with integrity and basic respect for potential clients (patients).

You've seen her on TV, and she's even better in person!…read more Before she was on TV simultaneously curing your acne and insomnia with Proactiv, Dr. Katie Rodan was a highly respected dermatologist -- clinically, academically, and in research. Well, she still is. Dr. Rodan came highly recommended by physicians all around the Bay Area. The day I was referred and the night before my appointment, I saw her infomercial for Proactiv for the first time (this was in 1995). Her product created with Dr. Kathy Fields was fairly new on the market and was already very successful. I went in to see her not knowing what I was going to get. Was Judith Light going to welcome me at the door? Dr. Rodan instantly earned my respect when, as a patient in her office, she didn't try to sell me Proactiv. In fact, she said for me NOT to use it. I knew at this moment she was there for my interests and not hers. I can go on and on about her professional achievements and accolades (she is truly amazing), but I think it's important for people to know that, with all her commercial success, she never "sold out." She is first and foremost a physician. (And, a damn good one.) A perfect blend of intelligence, experience, and bedside manner, Dr. Rodan listens and cares. If you need a dermatologist, she is my #1 recommendation. And, if you act now, she'll throw in the bill for free! This place is really hard to work with, and I think it's mainly due to one woman who works there…read moreand isn't nice. But in general, I wouldn't recommend this place. We have used this place twice. The good thing about this place is they have a good selection of children's frames, which most places don't have. Also, they did a good job making the glasses (or their lab did). They also take the Covered California medical insurance for children's exam and glasses, and most places don't. These are the reasons for 2 stars instead of 1 star. The bad things: The eye exam appointments need to be booked 3 months in advance or more. It is very hard to get an exam slot. I've been to many places and it has never been this hard. Even at an ophthalmologist, where they are also doing surgeries and such, it is easier to get an appointment for an eye exam. You need an appointment to look at glasses, and it also takes a while to get an appointment. At other places, you can often get a same day appointment, or at least within the next day or two. But at Eyewise, you have to wait 2-3 weeks. Even the second time we came, as repeat customers, we had an urgent issue (broken glasses) and had to wait a long time for an appointment. We finally got an appointment, and then the woman who works here didn't even help us. Why do you need an appointment if they are just going to ignore you the whole time anyway? She never even got up from her desk. We had to go over to her and ask specific questions. When we were ready to order the glasses and went to tell her, she finally came over but didn't explain options or say anything or make eye contact or act nice at all. I felt like we were really putting her out or something. The only reason we got glasses here was because of the good selection of children's frames. The other time we went here it was because we had only a couple places we could use insurance, and the same woman was there, and very unfriendly. The whole time, I felt like I'd done something wrong just by being there. It was not a welcoming experience. That time it was for both exam and glasses. The exam was fine. The glasses are fine. But the experience is bad. I don't need much help, but being completely ignored even when I first arrive feels bad. If it had happened only once, I'd think maybe she was just having a bad day, but nope, not 4 times total. When the glasses were ready, they called to let us know and schedule a time for us to pick them up. I said I could come now or anytime the next day, and they said their first available time was a week later. A week later! Just to get the glasses? So we took the first available appt, and when we went, they just handed us the glasses and asked are they fine, and we were gone. I don't know why you need an appt for that and why we couldn't have just gotten them earlier. Also, every time we've been here, it's never been busy, we're usually the only ones there and it's a very quiet place. This place moved from the Nob Hill shopping area to near Marina Village, in an office building. You ring a doorbell to get buzzed into the building. I've been to many optometry shops in my life, and the experience here pales in comparison with all the others.
