I highly recommend Dr. Bui to be your ophthalmologist. He is knowledgeable, caring, and works with you to give you a treatment plan that will give you the best care for your eyes. Over the past year, Dr. Bui talked with me about my blurry vision. We decided together a treatment plan. He performed two successful painless cataract surgeries on both my eyes. Before the surgeries, I was nearly blind for two years: I could hardly see my friends' faces close up. Now, I can safely drive a car (farsight) and read (nearsight) both without eyeglasses. One day, I was anxious when I felt discomfort and pain when medicating my right eye. I felt it was an emergency. Even though the problem was not life threatening, dry raw eyes, I felt relieved seeing her. She placed a protective contact lense in my eye to bandage and to keep it moist. Bui in Alameda Eye Physicians THE SURGERY CENTER: EYEMD LASER & SURGERY CENTER AT 481 30TH STREET OAKLAND CA 94609 Schedule : 04/15/2025 CATARACT SURGERY ON LEFT EYE AT 10AM AND ARRIVE ON 9:30AM Experience: Dr David Bui pushed me up one surgery slot to 9:30Am, it means the surgery should start at 9:30 Am, but they started surgery almost 10Am when 10Am was next patient surgery. So my surgery was hurry and bad. The following was what happened. A little before 9:30 AM a lady called me and asked me where I was. She did not tell me why she called me. I told her I was on the way to the surgery center. When I came to the surgery center, it was almost 9:30 Am. They put me into a cloth change room and let me take off some cloth and put them away. I took off some cloth and went for a piss. The time had passed 9:30 Am a lot. Then the staff put me in a prepare room. They put eye drops on my left eye and anesthesiologist gave me anesthetization During that time I asked them some questions. Then they took me to surgery room, as the time ran out I thought it might be closed 10Am. They put me onto the surgery table and tired me up and I saw a nurse and my surgery doctor Dr. David Bui and other black young man in the surgery room. the black man always was chattering with Dr Bui and never stop during the whole surgery and talking all things which were not related to cataract surgery. Before the surgery started, the nurse looked at my eye and told the doctor my eye had not dilated. But doctor Bui did not care he did not wait and took nurse advice. He did surgery without waiting for my left eye dilated. The surgery last less than one minute, Even in this one minute when the surgery was operated the black man still talked with surgeon DR. Bui. disturbing the surgery. At the time I was shocked and very worry for my surgery, I wanted to jump out the surgery table and left the careless and neglect surgery. But I could not because I was tired up on the table. After the surgery, when my friend drove me home, I told her what had happened in surgery room. She said the doctor conduct is unethical and unprofessional. When I came home I could only hope that the God would bless me. I hoped the DR. Bui's careless and neglect surgery would not effect the surgery result, but it was not. The next day doctor visit and one month later doctor visit after the surgery showed my surgical eye vision was worse than before. Then, DR Bui wanted to give another surgery to fix my surgical eye. He is unethical and unmoral doctor. I cannot trust him anymore. I rejected his subjected surgery. Conclusion Dr David Bui and EyeMD Laser & Surgery Center shift my from 10 Am surgery slot into 9:30Am surgery slot suddenly without notify me. When they prepared me for the surgery, time had far more passed 9:30 Am surgery starting time. Even they knew there was not enough time for the surgery, but they still hurry me into surgery room when my surgical eye did not have enough time to dilate. Because 10 Am would be next time slot of surgery for other patient. So Dr David Bui ignored the nurse gave him the warming that my surgical eye had not dilated. He did the surgery without my surgical eye dilated. He does not conduct his job on patients goodness sake. He does not take surgeries on patients serious. He continue chattering with other person on things complete not relate to the surgery during all the time of the surgery. DR. David Bui is unethical and immoral in his medical practice. He is dishonest too. On my cataract surgery consultation visit to him in January this year, I told him I was worried about having a cough during the surgery, he told me he could inject some medicine into me to stop the cough before the surgery. In the surgery day I asked the staff for that, the nurse told me they did not do that, and told me when I felt I was going to have a cough, say "pause". Dr Bui has lost his moral and conscience. My surgical eye vision get much worse than the vision before surgery I can not reverse my surgery and get my vision back. I need the vision to pass DMV eye exam to renew my driver license. Dr David Bui does not operate a cataract surgery seriously. His neglect and careless caused my cataract surgery fail. More worse, DR Bui is very dishonest. He made up the surgery result by lying. In the after surgery eye exam prescription ,saying my vision was better than the vision before the surgery. In this eye exam he did not really do the job, when I could not see on my surgical eye he used a light to light up my surgical eye to help me see. When I told him I could not see he ignored that and only showed me the same numbers and told me the number were same as before to help me guess. After he found characters were more difficult to see he showed me only numbers in the later time of exam. I hope my terrible experience give other people a lessen. read more

Dr Bui is the greatest!! My mom had facial twitches, spasms and severe pain on one side of her face. Her Seattle doctor told her it was the suicide disease. Who wants their doctor to tell them that? Plus they couldn't or wouldn't?? Get insurance approval for treatment. Dr. Bui may be the smartest physician with whom I have come into contact. He is a really excellent Ophthalmologist. He did my bilateral cataract surgery, and after consulting with me gave me "monovision," (one eye is for close vision, the other for far) which means I don't need glasses! After having my eye examined with East Bay Retina Consultants, it was discovered I had a cataract that needed surgery. I was able to easily & quickly make an appointment with Dr. Bui. I discovered at an eye exam some months back that I had a cataract in my left eye, and I was so alarmed that I unthinkingly accepted the referral made by the optometrist (at Costco, my first time there). I did not like the office or the manner of the eye surgeon I met with, who told me that if I wanted any correction included in the replacement lens, I would have to purchase an upgraded lens at $1200-$1800 per eye. (The right eye had not developed a cloudy area, but was hugely sensitive to glare, so that would have been times two.) I turned to Yelp to find a highly-regarded eye surgeon, and consider myself very lucky to have found Dr. Bui. He is not just professional and highly competent, he's a warm and friendly person as well. I have now had surgery on both eyes, and have 20-20 vision, without needing an upgraded lens. I first met Dr. Bui after suffering from an acute iritis attack while at a conference in Phoenix a few years ago. I was treated by a local opthalmologist and when I arrived home I needed to find one to continue treatment follow up. Dr. Bui was my choice based on the usual health plan considerations and I knew very little about him. He prescribed a more aggressive approach to treatment and follow up for testing to see if I had the genetic trait that is known to trigger iritis. Needless to say I have been very happy with David and the entire practice since my initial visit. Unfortunately the iritis flares up from time to time but I know the treatment plan by heart now and follow ups with Dr. Bui have become routine. He's good people and a good Dr. The whole family sees him now. read more

Thrilled! For a couple of years I've had a chalazion on the left eyelid and skin tags under the right. Felt like an old lady. But Dr. Bui fixed all that in a heartbeat! He has a great bedside manner in getting you to relax as a needle is going into your eyelid and later your eyelid being lifted back. Great support from all the staff including check-in. I originally had an appointment May 24, but I requested any last minute cancellations and I was seen two days after the initial consultation. That's service! I wouldn't hesitate going back for cosmetic surgery when I have the funds. For now, I am more than blessed Dr. Bui takes Medi-Cal. I had my eyelids surgery with Dr. Bui a month ago and could not be happier. My eyelid was drooping in one eye. I never can use eyeliner or eye make up on that eye. I have always want to have it fixed for years!!! I made the decision after making a lot of research and reviewing all photos on his websites. And Dr. Bui is even more than my expectation. Let me say that Dr. Boi is an amazing man, a professional and caring Dr. His office/billing staff however, are unprofessional, disorganized, over burdened and bitchy at best! Every time I've gone there the front office staff seems completely overwhelmed and well the male office manager is crazy! They called me to make an appointment for my elderly father and hang up on me when I get frustrated when I forgot the name of the medication he was using.. something they should have known if they had his chart! The new girl thought I was yelling at her.. hung up. Called back.. got the phone handed to the office manager cause I guess I was sooo unreasonable to say.. "shouldn't you guys know what med my dad is on... you prescribed it and didn't you call ME? Office manager goes into a ten minute rant on how only rich people will be able to see Dr. Boi going forward (my dad has blue cross and medicare what the hell?) and that they can't keep staff and they are very stressed out cause they are overworked because of Obama care lol .. seriously? I have known Dr. Bui for many years. One thing that sets him apart is his unfaltering integrity. Oftentimes specialists who are very experienced allow their egos to interfere with their professional judgment. But Dr. Bui really listens and has uncanny intuition. Dr. Bui uncovered an important, life-threatening illness of a dear friend of mine which had gone undiagnosed for years. Something that was completely unrelated to her eyes. I have been a patient of Dr. Bui for more than 8 years now and I feel it is even more than that because his staff and himself treat me like family. When I first came to him, it was a "last resort" kind of thing. I was fed up with my previous manage care provider and I was literally going blind. I had chronic iritis and did not even know what I 'm supposed to do to help myself. I live in Alameda and I desperately wanted to find a doctor closeto home. My primary doctor gave me a referral to Dr. Bui and I was impressed because even with the staff there, Dr. Bui was known in a very positive way. I decided that this was definitely a good sign. Dr. Bui is a very compassionate and competent physician, who genuinely cares about his patients. He has performed 2 surgeries on me, first was my cataract surgery and the last one was an upper lid blepharoplasty. On both instances, I heard raves from nurses as well as my anaesthesiologist -on how lucky I was to have him as my opthalmologist , it is transparent to me that his reputation precedes him. Not a good experience at all at this practice (this is not a reflection on Dr Bui specifically however as we engaged with others there). I was referred to them by my pediatrician for my son who needs glasses. I gave them his age and DOB when scheduling the appointment. The day of the appointment, they called me five minutes before saying they had to cancel (I had pulled my son out of school early that day, taken a portion of the day off, etc.) Then, when I came in with my son for the rescheduled appointment, after a one hour eye exam, they said he really should go to a pediatric opthamologist as that type of eye doctor was really better suited to fit him for glasses. He's far sighted, it wasn't some sort of obsure diagnosis. Going there was a total waste of two days. We came away without a perscription, and now I have to go to yet another doctor to take care what was supposed to be taken care of during my appointment at this practice in Alameda - a simple eye perscription for my son. I would have appreciated their saying ahead of time that they weren't equipped to treat/prescribe glasses to children before going ahead and scheduling the appointment two times for my son. read more
